For lawyers pro bono means representing someone free-of-charge who cannot afford a lawyer. Ontario lawyers have a long and proud tradition of serving their communities through their profession. Unfortunately, the public rarely hears about these good deeds. A newly-created pro bono resource centre, called Pro Bono Law Ontario (PBLO), will provide a coordinated approach to the delivery of pro bono legal services in Ontario. The idea for Pro Bono Law Ontario came out of a conference held several years ago to discuss access to justice issues. Although lawyers have always provided some of their time free-of-charge, they are not well?known for doing so. Pro Bono Law Ontario will provide the coordination, delivery and recognition of pro bono services in Ontario.
