Product Description
Unlike Hollywood, this is the reality of a family's life in an endless, diabolical nightmare. A fifteen year battle with the state, county, a corrupt, inadequate lawyer and, at best, an extremely questionable Judge. Corruption on every corner and every piece of paper, from letters to legal Court documents being forged! The State Bar of Texas doesn't function any better than the Courts or the judicial system. From personal experience, the State Bar exists to cover their "fellow lawyers." No accountability or responsibility for undeniable evidence. Apparently, we took too long for the discovery. Resulting in a 20 year sentence for sending a Birthday card!Mix in the inept Departments and employees of Human Services with CPS and you have a recipe for disaster! A catastrophe, largely due to our government's haste to protect the children, instead, creating a monster, run amuck. False accusations have become a "national epidemic," with the highest sentencing rate. Requiring an unhappy, unstable woman wanting a divorce, food stamps, grants and such, paid for by, "the taxpayers!"My goal is to expose the massive corruption consuming Texas, the huge enterprise of the State Prisons and the miserable failures of a broken system. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Do Not Waste Your Time
The book was very poorly written.I would hate to think that people read this book and believe that this is the way justice works in Texas. That is simply not true.

5-0 out of 5 stars A serious question: Are we the problem or the solution?
You will be OUTRAGED!Completely outraged!Your mind will spin. Injustices are knowingly allowed to occur in America. What are we to do?YOU may be next!My question is not rhetorical. What ARE we to do?

This book is about a terrible injustice and I keep asking myself, "What is the one thing the author and her family didn't do to prevent this Judicial Terror in Texas?"And, what's tying my brain in a knot is that I cannot think of one thing this family has not done to free their innocent brother and son.

I LOVE this country. But the next time I salute the flag, I'm not sure I will be as moved as I usually am. The next time I hear our National Anthem, I'm not sure my eyes will still well-up with tears.

It has jokingly been said that "our prisons are full of innocent people."This excellent book has shown me the sickening realization that we ARE tormenting many innocent people.

I want answers!WHY is Rick still in prison? For that matter, how did he ever get there in the first place?I want to gather a group of justice-loving patriots and picket the offices of every individual who has contributed to stealing the life from this innocent man! This man is innocent and we are fools if we don't realize this can happen in our own towns and to our own families. And Texans, I feel compelled to advise you to beware!

Your eyes will not blink as you read this book.People are exposed.Names are named... important names that you will recognize.Corruption is exposed... BUT NOBODY CARES!I feel that if "we the people" do not make these individuals accountable for this injustice, and the parts they all played, then we, too, have helped lock Rick up and have thrown away the key, just as our Judicial System has.

I cannot connect the dots as far as all this family has been put through. It's pure insanity.I thought the Bill of Rights was mandatory, not optional.

Once you read this you will be forced to ask yourself the question, "Am I going to be part of the problem or part of the solution?"Calls need to be made.Letters need to be written. Those of us who aren't a part of the solution ARE part of the problem. And after reading this book, you will be astounded by HOW many problems we have!

This is a book about corruption, injustice, evil, agony and FAITH.This is a story that could have never been told without the unwavering faith of this author.

5-0 out of 5 stars POWERFUL BOOK!
This book is just yet another example of how the judicial system fails to protect those who rely on it to protect their innocence. This book is well worth the read and will open your eyes to an incredibly corrupt system.Show your support for the innocent and purchase this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A solid, in-depth manual highly recommended for anyone seeking to lobby governmental officials
Lobbying and Advocacy is a solid, in-depth manual highly recommended for anyone seeking to lobby governmental officials or advocate public policy. Packed cover to cover with tips, checklists, and examples, Lobbying and Advocacy is intended to be a thorough reference and resource for lobbyists of all skill and experience levels. Major topics covered include "Legal and Ethical Considerations", "Develop, Never Devalue, Grassroots", "Multiply Your Influence: Coalitions and Partners" and much more. A wealth of appendices and an index round out this absolute "must-have" for any professional in the field. "Members of Congress and staff may never solicit a gift, or accept a gift that is linked to any action they have taken or are being asked to take. Members of Congress, their staff, and congressional officers are generally not permitted to accept gifts or meals from lobbyists, foreign agents, or their employing organizations, with certain exceptions... Do not offer any gifts or meals, plan congressional events, negotiate employment or arrange trips with policymakers unless you are absolutely certain that no rules are being violated."

5-0 out of 5 stars An Essential Resource on Lobbying
Lobbying and Advocacy by Deanna Gelak is a comprehensive resource to help American citizens understand and exercise their Constitutional right to lobby their legislators.Gelak's book contains all of the essentials for successful lobbying, including a step-by-step process of lobbying, chapter summaries, lobbying tips and facts, charts and graphs, and recommended resources. The book contains strategies for lobbying Congress, the executive branch, and state officials and can be a useful media guide for working with the press.

In the first chapter, "The True Nature of Lobbying," Gelak not only provides general information about the history, basis, and significance for lobbying, she also debunks the ascribed origin of the term "to lobby" coined at the Willard Hotel.

The book's major sections deal with crafting the issue and strategies for making it effective. Also, there is a helpful guidance for providing testimony, forming coalitions, and avoiding problems with ethics laws.Gelak's "30 Laws of Lobbying" promotes integrity in public service and puts lobbying in perspective for advocates at all levels.

Given that Lobbying and Advocacy explains effective ways to contact policymakers and addresses ethical advocacy, it will benefit both the legislative novice as well as the experienced lobbyist in managing and advancing advocacy issues.I would highly recommend the book for anyone actively involved in legislative campaigns or interested in issue advocacy.Gelak's book makes lobbying interesting, and her non-technical style makes for easy reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Resource
I wrote a cover recommendation for this book, and bought an extra copy for work.

As a public interest lobbyist who is interested in empowering participation from all citizens, I can't recommend this book enough. As lobbying has become a specialized career, undertaken by teams of highly paid lawyers, accessible explanations and primary source materials are an absolute necessity for citizen advocates. While we can't all have teams of experts drafting our emails or testimony, they can still be formed with an understanding of how influence works in DC.That's what this book provides.

5-0 out of 5 stars You need this book!!
What a gold mine. This is a very PRACTICAL, powerful and comprehensive tool for equipping citizens to engage politically. If you're trying to advance a cause through advocacy, media relations, grassroots organizing, or coalition building, you will find yourself turning to this book week after week as you rely on the concisely presented webpages, templates, best practices, and "recommended resources" found throughout the book. The extensive, yet practical chart on lobbying ethics laws (Sec. 2.3) is easy to use and will help advocates avoid ethical landmines.

I especially enjoyed the discussions of the "ethics imperative" and "the law of lost perspective."This book should be read beyond Washington, DC.The Thirty Laws of Lobbying provides a lot of insight, obviously developed with a lot of seasoned experience (and a great sense of humor), and will help me to keep it all in perspective! ... Product Description
Davis discusses the increasing role of interest groups, the press, and the public, whose role is not prescribed in the Constitution, in the selection and confirmation of Supreme Court justices and how it affects the process. First he examines in detail the history and nature of the process, then he looks at the role and impact of other players. His conclusions about how non-political actors affect the outcome of Supreme Court justice selection leads him at the end of his book to suggest controversial reforms and their prospects for success.

Get ready for Chief Justice Roy Moore.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Timely Contribution Regarding Supreme Court Nominations
It is hard to think of a more opportune time to read this new book on the strengths and weaknesses of the current Supreme Court nomination process. With the upcoming expected retirement of the Chief Justice, and the current foolishness occuring in the Senate over judicial filibusters, the solid and unemotional analysis offered by Professor Richard Davis is welcome to say the least. The author is very good in explaining how we have gotten into the current nomination mess: the role of the press in shaping nominee images; the incredible importance of interest groups and their energy in driving the process; the public expectation that nomination consideration will occur as much as possible in the open and not behind closed doors as in the past; and the role of nominations in reaffirming pertinent constitutencies for the groups, parties, and the pertinent president. In short, the process is no longer one conducted by the Senate in accordance with its own practices--instead each nomination (and the author does discuss particular examples such as Clarence Thomas, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, David Souter, and of course Robert Bork) has become a major public event and battleground as the various players maneuver for advantage. What we have lost as a result of this "take no prisoners" approach to nominations is all too evident. While the author does not unleash any startling new insights, the book stands as perhaps the best introduction for anyone interested in gaining an understanding of how the process currently functions. The final chapter is devoted to "Reforming the Process," and the author examines a number of thoughtful proposals for mitigating the current mess.Alas, given the current political malaise floating over Washington, one can only reply: "dream on, Professor." ...
