Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Teen courts are authorized by law in many states in America. The terms teen court, youth court, and peer court are used interchangeably. Their purpose is to provide an alternative disposition for juveniles who have committed a delinquent act, have committed a minor offense, or have been charged with a misdemeanor, and are otherwise eligible for diversion. Depending on their training, community support, and agreements with traditional court systems, most teen or youth courts are recognized as valid, legal venues for the process of hearing cases, sentencing and sentence fulfillment. ... Product Description
Building on Kari Dunn Buron s popular The Incredible5-Point Scale, this book takes a narrower look at challenging behaviorwith a particular focus on behaviors that can spell trouble for adolescents and young adults who have difficulty understanding and maintaining social boundaries. Using a direct and simple style with lots of examples and hands-on activities, A 5 Is Against the Law! speaks directly to adolescents and young adults. A section of the book is devoted to how to cope with anxiety before it begins to escalate, often leading to impulsive and unacceptable behavior. Throughout the book, the reader is encouraged to think about and create his own behavior on an anxiety scale that applies to his particular emotions and situations. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good for ASD kids who act out
This is a good tool to get your ASD child to look at their behavior from someone else's point of view. The scale is pretty basic and thus is easier to apply to a wide variety of behaviors. It helps also because the notion that some behaviors are very serious is coming from a 'book' and not from 'mom or dad'.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool!
This was a fabulous tool for working with our child who suddenly had problems with sexually inappropriate conduct in Middle School. The examples used were very similar to the scenarios which we experienced.Brief and to the point with practical application.

5-0 out of 5 stars helpful, useful and definitely worth trying
I have a 19 year old son on the autism spectrum. It is really difficult to find materials out there to work with the challenges autistic individuals face in adulthood. This little book is easy to use and can be used as a tool to help them navigate in a world they see very differently from the rest of us. We need more resources like this.

5-0 out of 5 stars It impressed my skeptical teen
My 15 year old is very resistant to books about his Aspergers but he liked this one.He clearly found it helpful, disappearing into his room, reading it completely and then asking me to order some of the items in the bibliography (another first). So kudos to the author.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Five is Against the Law!
I thought the workbook was good, but the parts where there's a "map" of what to do (or not to do) was slightly confusing. However, it is good for men on the autistic spectrum to understand what is OK and what isn't. ... Read more

Product Description
Because 15-year-old Gerry Gault fought for his rights, every teenager in the United States. has specific rights when arrested and charged with a crime. Because 14-year-old Deborah Weisman challenged her school's policy regarding prayer at graduation ceremonies, teens know they can take a stand on issues that matter to them. This fascinating book describes precedent-setting cases that reveal the power of social action and prove that teens can change the law. Judge Jacobs familiarizes young readers with our legal system, dispels myths and mysteries, and shows that the law is by and for the people-including teens. Formerly titled Teens on Trial, revised and updated with new cases, citations, laws, and discussion questions. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An informative and thought provoking collection of cases brought to court by young people
Teens Take It To Court: Young People Who Challenged The Law--And Changed Your Life by Judge Tom Jacobs (Adjunct Professor at the Arizona State University School of Social Work) is an informative and thought provoking collection of cases brought to court by young people who have historically taken the judicial initiative and changed the course of American history by doing so. Introducing its readers to a constructive and progressive understanding of the laws and the judicial system, Teens Take It To Court addresses such issues as to whether or not parents have the right to give police permission to search a minor's personal belongings over the child's objection, if parents retain the right to prevent their daughter from getting an abortion, if prayer at a school function is voluntary, or if wearing gang symbols or colors should be illegal. An invaluable addition to school and community library collections, Teens Take It To Court is very highly recommended for interested parents and children, and for those searching for a reference when taking action in court for youth-related cases.
