Excerpt: The Liberal People's Party (Swedish: , abbreviated fp, meaning literally The People Party the Liberals) is a political party in Sweden. The party advocates social liberalism and is part of the governing centre-right bloc Alliance for Sweden, which achieved a majority in the general election of 17 September 2006. The party is currently the fourth largest party in the Riksdag. Its youth wing is the Liberal Youth of Sweden. In Sweden itself the party is almost universally referred to as simply the People's Party (Folkpartiet), with the word liberals (liberalerna) only being added in formal or legal contexts. 1809: The first liberal party is formed after a coup d'état ends royal autocracy; it is possibly the first party in the world to use the word "liberal" in its name. 1902: "Frisinnade Landsföreningen" (loosely translatable as the Broadminded National Association) is formed as the first liberal party with a national grass-roots organization. It is heavily reliant on the "free religious" church movement. 1923: "Frisinnade Landsföreningen" splits over alcohol prohibition; the anti-ban minority forms Liberal Party of Sweden. "Frisinnade Landsföreningen" heads several governments during the following years. 1934: The parties reconcile and form "Folkpartiet" (The People's Party), i.e. the party in its present form. 1939-45: Parttakes in a wartime coalition government comprising all parties except the Communists. Excerpt: The Young Liberal Movement is the youth division of the Liberal Party of Australia, and membership is open to those between 16 and 30 years of age. Members of Young Liberals have full party-membership, and have the choice of which part they join. They are active in Liberal Party campaigning during all state and federal elections. The Young Liberals today are one of the largest divisions of the wider Liberal Party of Australia, and are major contributors to policy development and campaigning at election time. The Movement is predominantly organised on the state division level, with each state organising its own events and policy and electing its own executive. A national executive also exists with representatives made up from delegates from each state division. Policy can also be adopted by the Movement's federal body. The current Federal President of the Young Liberals is Richard Wilson. The Young Liberal Movement is a separate movement to the Liberal students who are based around campus clubs that support the Liberal party but are not officially a part of it. While the Young Liberal is the peak body of local Young Liberal branches, Liberal students are represented by the Australian Liberal Students Federation. However, in 2006 the NSW State Representative of the Australian Liberal Students Federation said "I am pleased to report that the link between NSW Liberal Students and the NSW Young Liberal movement is stronger than ever. Through joint functions and campaigns we have achieved a unity of purpose enabling us to work together to promote Liberalism". The Young Li...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=6053359 ... Read more

Excerpt:Historically the National Liberal Party was a name used by two groups of politicians, who had formerly been associated with the Liberal Party in the United Kingdom. David Lloyd George had replaced the Liberal Party leader Herbert Henry Asquith as Prime Minister in 1916, at the head of a coalition ministry most of whose Parliamentary members were Conservatives. Asquith and many of his leading colleagues went into opposition, but at first it was not clear that the division in the Liberal Party would result in a formal party split. Lloyd George and the Conservative leader Andrew Bonar Law decided to continue the coalition after the end of the First World War. The two leaders agreed to issue a letter to a single government supporter in most constituencies for the 1918 general election, which thus became known as the 'coupon election'. Not all loyal MPs got the coupon and some who were offered it rejected the support, but this marked a formal division between Coalition Liberal supporters of Lloyd George and those Liberals loyal to Asquith and the official party. After the coalition won the general election and the non coalition wing of the party had suffered catastrophic defeat, the split in the Liberal Party became more organised. Of the 36 Liberal MPs elected without the coupon, nine supported the coalition. The others held a meeting and declared themselves to be the Liberal Parliamentary Party. During the course of the Parliament, the split spread through the party organisation. At a meeting of the National Liberal Federation in May 1920, coalition ministers were sho...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=332717 ... Read more

Excerpt: Partido Patria Libre (roughly translated "Free Homeland Party" or "Free Fatherland Party") is a Paraguayan political party. It defines its goals as "Marxist, patriotic, and anti-imperialist." PPL was founded by former activists of the Popular Democratic Movement (MDP) on February 3, 1990, under the name Corriente Patria Libre ("Free Homeland Current"). In February 1992, it was renamed Movimiento Patria Libre ("Free Homeland Movement"). It acquired its current name in December 2002 after the movement was officially registered as a political party. PPL has strong roots in the movement for left regroupment. It leads the United Left (IU) alliance, which also includes the Workers' Party (PT), the Socialist Revolutionary Nucleus (NRS), the April 19 Indigenous Movement (M-19 Abril), and the Paraguayan Socialist Party (PSP). The Paraguayan Communist Party (PCP) withdrew from IU in 2003. The PPL platform calls for, among other things, PPL leaders have recently been accused of carrying out a pair of high-profile kidnappings. Two PPL leaders, Juan Arrom and Anuncio Martí, were abducted by the police and held for two weeks for their alleged involvement in the November 2001 disappearance of María Bordón de Debernardi (who was released unharmed in February 2002). Excerpt: The National Liberal Party (Partidul Naional Liberal) is a liberal party in Romania, the third largest party in parliament, being outrun by the Democratic Liberal Party and the Social Democratic Party. Until April 2007, it was the largest member of the governing Justice and Truth alliance, which enjoyed a parliamentary majority due to an alliance between the Liberal Party, the Democratic Party, and the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania. In April 2007, Clin Popescu-Triceanu, who was also the party leader, formed a minority government only with Democratic Union of Hungarians. After the 2008 legislative election it has entered opposition, winning 19.74% seats in the Parliament, while the new government coalition, formed by their former ally Democratic Liberal Party, and the Social Democratic Party, had 69.85%. In the 2009 Romanian presidential elections its new leader, Crin Antonescu, finished third and the party remained in opposition. The party is a member of Liberal International and the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party. The party adheres to the doctrine of classical liberalism, advocating both economic and social liberalisation. In recent years, it has focussed more on economic liberalism. For example, one of its main election promises for the 2004 legislative election was the introduction of a flat tax rate of 16% for personal income and corporate profits. Because the Liberal Party became part of the governing coalition, it managed to introduce this change, hence giving Romania one of the most liberal tax policies in Europe. The National Liberal Party also supports the neutrality of the state in moral and r...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=863906 ... Read more

Excerpt: In a sense, the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan is not a single organization but a conglomeration of competitive factions, which, despite the traditional emphasis on consensus and harmony, engage in bitter infighting. Over the years, factions numbered from six to thirteen, with as few as four members and as many as 120, counting those in both houses. The system is operative in both houses, although it was more deeply entrenched in the House of Representatives than in the less powerful House of Councillors. Faction leaders usually are veteran LDP politicians. Many, but not all, have served as prime minister. Faction leaders offer their followers services without which the followers would find it difficult, if not impossible, to survive politically. Leaders provide funds for the day-to-day operation of Diet members' offices and staff as well as financial support during expensive election campaigns. The operating allowances provided by the government are inadequate, even after the introduction of public funding in 1994. The leader also introduce his followers to influential bureaucrats and business people, which make it much easier for the followers to satisfy their constituents' demands. Historically, the most powerful and aggressive faction leader in the LDP was Kakuei Tanaka, whose Mokuyo Club factions dual-house strength in the early 1980s exceeded 110. His followers remained loyal despite the fact that he had been convicted of receiving ¥500 million (nearly US$4 ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=19777824 ... Read more

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Traditionally representing rural voters, it was originally called the Country Party, but adopted the name National Country Party in 1975 and changed to its present name in 1982. Federally, in New South Wales, and to an extent Victoria, it has generally been the minor party in the traditional coalition with the Liberal Party of Australia in government and in opposition since the 1940s, and the UAP/NPA since the 1920s, against the Australian Labor Party. However, it was the major coalition party in Queensland between 1957 and 2008, when it merged with the junior partner, the Queensland Division of the Liberal Party of Australia to form the Liberal National Party - an organisation dominated by ex-Nationals. Since 2008 under the Senate leadership of Barnaby Joyce, the party has moved to the crossbenches and has indicated it will be voting independently of their Liberal counterparts. ... Read more
