The principal traffic is or was iron ore. More detail has emerged on the 13 January accident in Liberia, on the recently revived Bong Mines railway. A train travelling from the mine to Monrovia collided, 68 km from the capital, with a makeshift wooden wagon known locally as a Make-away. A pregnant woman lost her life and a 64-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he died. In the interests of public safety, make-aways have been banned by the government from using the railway and the police have instructions to arrest anyone contravening the order both operators and passengers. ...
