Product Description
Taken from a series which is an easy-reader version of the "Discovering Nature" series, this book looks at snakes and lizards. It describes the many different kinds of snakes and lizards in the world - what they look like, where they live, what they eat and how they look after their young. This book starts with an explanation of the origin of snakes and lizards, in which the author describes the similarities and differences between them. He then describes the different places in the world that they live - in tropical rain forests, in deserts, and in the case of sea snakes and marine iguanas, in the sea. It describes how they catch their prey and eat it, in the case of snakes using their sense of smell to hunt. It examines the reproduction of snakes and lizards, and the reader is introduced to the idea that both these reptiles lay eggs. Enemies of these creatures, and the role of camouflage and warning coloration, are looked at before the book ends by discussing conservation, and how some snakes and lizards may be kept as pets.Ann Smith is headteacher of a Welsh primary school, and has written several other books, including "Frogs and Toads", and "Rabbits and Hares" in the "Nature Study" series. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Teaching Resource
I'm a mother of three who is teaching her daughters Spanish at home, and this book is a favorite in our household. My daughters have memorized the phrase "Tra la ri la rasa, esta roca es mi casa...." The book is lively and captures my daughters' imaginations. I would highly recommend that you obtain the version though that comes with the CD so that you can put it on in the car or at home. It's a great way to expose children to the Spanish language. The illustrations are adorable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Something for everyone
The great thing about this book is that there is an engaging, funny illustration on one page to set the stage and pique the child's interest, with simple rhyming text, and then on the other page there is a detailed paragraph on the featured critter full of interesting facts, vocabulary, and science concepts. So this book can be used by beginning and more advanced readers. The combination of humor and information is a winning combination for kids.I can see preschoolers and parents reading this book together, and then middle elementary school kids coming back to it later when they are looking for information to write reports. ... Product Description
Being a little guy is tough, and no one knows this better than Bima, a pet lizard. He sympathizes with the troubles of his eight-year-old owner, Todd, who feels too small for his age, his class, and his new bicycle. It's up to Bima to do his small part and get Todd on two wheels in time for the all-important school Bike Derby.

Written exclusively from Bima's point of view, this is an unusual yet warm and perceptive look at the childhood experiences of overcoming fears, dealing with a bully, and forming a friendship with a good pet. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Impossible after All
It's hard to imagine a successful first-person novel, written from the viewpoint of a lizard. Yet, Ellen Kelley proves that it can be done and very, very well. Bima, the lucky lizard himself, is smart, believable, funny, whimsical, and yet touching in his devotion to Todd. Kelley walks a clever line, giving Bima certain human abilities (he learns to read from watching TV, for example) while keeping him delightfully lizard-ly. Bima can't talk to Todd, and yet the two understand each other and are fast friends. This book begs for a sequel. What will happen next? It's is a great choice for reluctant readers, especially boys though girls will love it too. Kids who love animals and kids who love to laugh will all love THE LUCKY LIZARD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Leaping Lizards
Leaping Lizards! This is a fun story. It's not easy to write a tale with a lizard as the narrator, but Ms. Kelly pulls it off.Children will learn that seemingly insurmountable fears can be overcome. And it's a darn, cute story too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lucky Readers!
Lucky is the reader who discovers this delightful book. Ellen Kelly's lizard-narrator, Bima, is fresh, funny, smart and, at times, smart-alecky; kind of like a big brother - - with scales! He truly cares about Todd, his human owner, and takes him under his wing . . . er, tail, as the two of them skitter through mishaps and adventures that will have you falling out of your chair laughing!(Wait till you read the lizard-taco scene!) The ending, when both Todd and Bima at long last overcome their fears, will satisfy readers, but also have them yearning for a sequel. A perfect book for any boy or girl who has mastered easy-to-reads, but is not quite ready for a middle grade novel.A wonderful read-aloud, as well. Recommend for ages 6-9. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars When's #2 Coming Out?
This story is one of those books that will make you love to read. The plot is easy to understand and fun, and will keep the pages turning until your finished with it. Our family loves this book, and my brother finally found a book he loves. This book shows us that normal people make mistakes, but that there is a hero in all of us. If #2, which I'm told is in the works, is as good as the first, then this is a series that will be getting serious attention. This is worth every penny...

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for boys and girls
This book combines the perfect amount of battle scenes for boys and a little romance for girls. There is no kissing, so it's appropiate for young kids. The plot is ingenious and very gripping for it includes real life talking lizards in their world of fighting for freedom against the oppressive chameleons. Louie is hidden for safety, but he doesn't know he's the secret heir to the throne. His father was killed in the battle of the chameleon take-over, but Louie never knew him. Louie grows up in a adoptive family, but tragedy strikes when the chameleons kill them off.He is soon taken in by Talis, a hidden commander of Louie's deceased father. In the woods, they hide and build up secret forces for the overthrow while Louie learns his tactics for fighting and becoming the king of the lizards. On a particular event, Louie meets Marie a lizard whose family has been torn apart by the chameleons. Together they and Talis force out the opressive chameleons and regain freedom of Lizard Island once and again. The is story is great for a thrill seeker.

3-0 out of 5 stars Easy Read
First, I don't like to give my e-mail. I'm really an adult who bought it for my kids. Anyway:
This is a pretty entertainig read. But I had two problems with this book:
1) I liked the concept. Lizards fighting. Funny. But I felt that this author could have added a little more and it would have been better. I mean, it would have been a lot better if he used mor descriptive words, and a little more action.
2) The romance was bad. First it talks about Louie, a lizard, who loses all his friends. And then there's this lizard who likes him and wants to have sex with him. She tries to hard. And Louie falls for it. Isn't this book reccomended for 8-12 year olds? And then the lizards win a battle and suddenly Louie wantsa wife.
He's like:
"Every King needs a Queen." I mean, you'd think he might have learned with Trina. And we din't even see this coming. In Star Wars, Anakin acts so dumb, but you notice he's falling in love. In this, Louie's just fighting and suddenly, he wants to get married. Real Life: I wouldn't want to get married just for the heck of having a queen. If he really wanted to, he could just have sex with a cameleon, and banish her.
Overall, I thought it was okay. The author just didn't have to have Louie getting married yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars War Lizards
Have you ever read a book with war fighting lizards? Louieloses his family at a young age and he has to fight for what he wants. If you want to know more get this book and read it.

Thetheme for thisstory is you can't always get what you want. If you try , you mightbe able to receive your wish , however I think this book is eerie and on the edge , you will never put down this book. What will he do next?

5-0 out of 5 stars What "Finding Nemo" did for fish, Louie does for lizards.
Take Harry Potter mixed with Simba of "The Lion King," cross him with an orphaned prince named Louie, mix in some life lessons and vocabulary/reading comprehension lessons, and you get the delightful Destiny, Valor and a Lizard named Louie by Michael Ambrosio. But why do mothers always get short shrift from fairy tales? ...
