Extractions: Santa brought my 4yo this program for Christmas. It installed easily on Win98 and ran first time. I installed the whole disk to the hard drive hoping to improve performance. The program still does take about a minute between games to prepare itself. But this is understandable considering the incredible graphics and sound in the game. Santa had previously brought the Tonka DigsNRigs game last year. I was hoping to use the control console from that with Monster Trucks. ...- however the software's printed manual inside the box says that it is compatible, but gives no instructions on how to make it work. The DigsNRigs console is not the default input device, the keyboard arrows are. The manual refers you to the readme file, which also gives no specifics. DigsNRigs Solution: In the game itself, there is a building which lights up red when selected, called "Options." Click in there and you will see the setting for input device. Keyboard, DigsNRigs, or game controller can be used. I have not tried my Microsoft Game Controller with this game. Once selected, just "go back" and you are done. Digs and Rigs will now work well.

Extractions: I hooked up with Jeff Bursey, owner and driver of the Extreme Towasaurus Wrex truck. I was privileged enough to ask him a few questions for my site. Q) How did you first get into this sport? A) "I saw my Monster Truck when I was six years old. It was Kirk Dabney's Blue Thunder, from that moment, I was hooked." Q) Why do you race Monster Trucks and not some other form of motorsports? A) "I race Monster Trucks because I have a desire to be different. To me Monster Trucks are the most unpredictable motorsport as far as track conditions go. And by far the most inconsistent and ultimately the most exciting." Q) Have you ever rolled your truck? And what was going through mind while you were going over? A) "I've rolled my truck twice. Once completley over and the other time on its side. And both times all that was going through my mind was 'Wow! This is cool, but I hope I can get it back together to make the next show!'" Q) What was going through your mind the the first time you ever raced in a competitive race? A) "The first time I had ever raced side by side was in Canada against Gary Bauer's Nitemare II. All I could think about was cutting a good light and where I was going to land."

Extractions: Search Help You Need Automotive Family Education ... Matter Of Fact Email This Story Print This Story Monster trucks might be the single best invention (at least in the life of a little boy) since Lego announced the Jack Stone line. When I was first introduced to the idea of gigantic trucks with names such as Little Miss Dangerous, The Enforcer and Grave Digger, I thought the whole concept was odd. Naming your truck? C'mon! As a person who normally relishes peace and quiet, the idea of paying to watch vehicles that roar at earsplitting decibel levels at the slightest acceleration also struck me as strange. Then there are those gigantic tires that look like the automotive equivalent of a glandular disorder, to help the vehicle maneuver over freshly painted junkyard-quality cars and vans. I assumed that you'd have to maintain a high level of testosterone to willingly sit through an afternoon of grinding and crushing. So, before I went to my first Monster Truck Rally, I was skeptical. Could it really be that cool? A public relations and marketing representative from the National Hot Rod Association offered me free tickets. The price of admission was right, so I decided to give it a try. However, I wondered: If I went to the event, would it be me and 500 guys wearing Dale Earnhardt Jr. jackets and Ricky Craven caps?
