5-0 out of 5 stars Most Amazing cover yet !!!!! 2008
This is the best SI Cover Yet 2008 !!!!!!Marisa Miller is the perfect American Beauty !!!This is a healthy, curvy woman that is a joy to look at.There are alot of different types of women that represent womens beauty to the fullest...I highly recomend this magazine!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Boring
I think that Sports Illustrated has lost their touch with the swimsuit issues. The photographs appear overly digitized, poses routine, too much make-up, models are clearly NOT enjoying themselves, and ....some of you may remember the days when SI encouraged their models to be healthy and FIT.Now they look anorexic.

I am 100% sure that I could do a better job with my Canon XTi.
Seriously.

Ok, life is too short to worry about this. But there was a time when the annual SI swimsuit issue was exuberant, a celebration of female health and beauty.Where did that go?

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious
I think it's pretty hilarious that the review above this one condemns society and SI for producing this issue of "insecure" models (even though many of these models are world-class models, not Maxim models), and yet the review then goes on to evaluate some of the women on a scale of one to ten. Dude, isn't that just as repulsive?

To be honest I haven't seen the issue yet but I can promise you that if Marissa Miller is on the cover, it's going to be what it is. Not the most edifying thing for our children but nevertheless a home run for what it's supposed to be.

1-0 out of 5 stars HUBBA, HUBBA! AAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOGGAAAAAAA! AAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOGGAAAAAA! PANT, PANT, PANT! {DROOLS AS TONGUE ROLLS OUT OF MOUTH}
Whenever I pick up the yearly edition of SI's swimsuit magazine, my hands are always clammy and sweaty and shaking in pubescent, giddy anticipation; my pulse and heartbeat pound away at a million miles per second; my breathing's always belabored as it emerges in low, guttural rasps; my back, underarms and forehead are drenched in the sweat that only sweet, sweet stimulation can incur; and my whole body generally heaves up and down from excitability. But--and this is a BIG but--these symptoms are not from what you stereotypically may infer!!!!

Contrary to what your dirty and immature mind may've presupposed, the aforementioned symptoms are NOT from lustfully anticipating the taut, oh-so tight and toned bodies of insecure swimsuit models with something to prove, bouncing off the pages of the magazine. They're also NOT from me drooling at the sight of curvaceous, silicone-infested women who are wh*ring themselves provocatively in their half-naked, scantily clad, low self-esteem!!!! Neither are they from the savage, animalistic overeagerness felt at the sight of the enticing female form, courtesy of the swimsuit models...regardless that they're all suffering from low self-opinion and thusly have something to prove by posing half-nude. Rest assured that my symptoms at picking up the 2008 edition of SI's magazine have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with any of this! No way, Jose!!!!

However, the reason for my symptoms is very much rooted in reality, and that reality concerns itself with more ethical matters. Specifically, why does the 2008 SI swimsuit magazine market these women as brainless pieces of meat that exist only for the lustful hedonism of men (and maybe lesbians, too)?!?! As a sociologist who deeply cares about the direction of the country, I will damn both the immaturely indulgent men who succumb to their impurest, pubescent fantasies and the slu*ty vixen-women who willfully prostitute themselves as pieces of meat for a few, cheap dollars!!!! I'm also repulsed at the double-standards these skin-mags inflict on society: with their salacious poses, women are undoubtedly telling men it's "all right" to touch, yet as soon as a man makes a move, look out! It's sexual harassment allegation time!

2008's SI swimsuit magazine is unpalatable for many affronts involving female insecurity and low self-esteem, f*tish-flirtation, arrogant self-promotion, moral inconsistency, and on the lowest, most fundamental level, simply unattractive "women."

In the case of f*tish-flirtation, there's no more glaring transgression than the section on body painting where an*rexic, fretfully skinny models Jessica Gomes, Quiana Grant, Marisa Miller, and Tori Prayer get swimsuits painted on by obviously screwed-up "artists," who are sexually frustrated that painting women's bodies is the closest they can get to actual sex!!!!

In the arena of arrogant self-promotion, the already desperate-for-attention and ever-jealous sports stars' wives have it. Here, Jeff Gordon's wife, Jeff Garcia's wife, Johnny Damon's wife, and Carmello Anthony's fiancee--all overshadowed, obscure women who will never be as famous as their husbands and therefore are mired in eternal jealousy and desperation for attention!--pose in near-p*rnographic shots designed to get the wet dreams of teenagers going! Of course, liberal pop culture dictates that the interpretation here is these wives really are only "empowering" themselves and being good, true feminists by doing so, because all their shots are "tasteful." The husbands who are really letting their wives pimp themselves out for money are kidding themselves by pretending it's good for their sham-marriages that their wives str*p for money.

In the arena of moral inconsistency, I will have to be especially hard (no pun intended!) on Danica Patrick for posing like a little, submissive sl*t. She's totally unpardonable for two, essential reasons. One, she actually is--believe it or not--Catholic though by her continuous misuse of her semi-attractive body over the years in magazine spreads, she misbehaves like a liberal atheist. However, it's with this SI spread that she totally crosses into beyond-the-pale territory. Her poses are totally suggestive and completely inconstant with the virtues preached in Catholicism; as punishment she should be denied the sacrament of Communion like every other lib-Catholic who gets out of line (like John Kerry in 2004).

That aside, from a purely sexual standpoint, many of the "women" featured are just NOT attractive to begin with; maybe SI lowered the standard to the pubescent boy who would have his way with any woman.

To make my case, I'll now rate--that's right, RATE--on a scale of ten most of the soulless and wh*rish "women" in this issue.

Danica Patrick - 3 (face only a mother could love)
Michelle Damon - 1 (junk in her trunk)
Carmella Garcia - 2 (frumpy-looking and wide hips)
La La Vasquez - 0 (plain jane)
Ingrid Vandebosch - 4 (body-type of a little boy)
Marisa Miller - -1 (rail-thin and freckle-infested)
Will Ferrell - 5 (comedic-though-still-jackass-value makes him more tolerable)
All NFL Cheerleaders - 2.5 (stereotype of blonde bimbos)

The bottom line is SI's 2008 magazine is primarily good for two things and two things ONLY. One, masturbating material for men of all ages, but primarily pubescent and teen boys who are just awakening to raging hormones and the obsession with getting laid. And two, envy material for women of all ages who will imminently move towards the path of doing psychological damage to themselves by longingly trying to measure up to these unrealistic body images of an*rexic models. ... Editorial Review

Book Description
From the late 1800s through the first half of the 1900s, pulp magazines-costing a dime and filled with both fiction and nonfiction-were a staple of American life. Though often overlooked by popular culturalists, sports were one of the staples of the pulp scene; such standards as the National Police Gazette and All-Story carried some sports stories, and several publications, such as Sport Story Magazine, were entirely devoted to them.

An overview of the pulps is followed by an examination of those devoted to sports: how they came into being, the development of the genre, the popularity of its heroes, and coverage of real-life events. The roles of editors, writers, artists, and publishers are then fully covered. A chapter on Street & Smith, the foremost publisher of sports pulps, follows, while a concluding chapter discusses the reasons for the demise of the pulps in the early 1950s. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Still too much clothes, too much covered up!
Yes, it's a great issue, but I've been saying for years that Sports Illustrated should do this swimsuit magazine without the swimsuits--the girls should be totally nude. Swimsuits should only be used sparingly, with extreme discretion, and only when appropriate.

It's a travesty that we should have to make this much of an effort to imagine what these women are like without clothes on when everyone knows that beautiful women like these LOVE to take off their clothes and pose for admirers.

It's not an issue with the models--they would enjoy showing off and they love knowing that men are enjoying looking at them. It's Sports Illustrated's fault--they are wussies, they are too scared and intimidated of the politically-correct watchdog organizations to go all-nude. If Si would just be brave enough to innovate and blaze some new frontiers, we could fully enjoy these women the way they were meant to be.

If they can figure out a way to make this happen in France, then we Americans should be able to do it too.

4-0 out of 5 stars The real deal finally
After not being able to purchase SI locally here in OZ, it was great to be able to recieve a copy of latest SI - rather than rely on the occaisional pic from the 'net.... As expected this issue was excellent - world locations and brilliant models - and the 3D pics were novel.... and the linking with music via the SI website was excellent !
if u love SI - do also find yourself a copy of the DVD's as u get to see the girls 'in real life' behind the scenes.... it brings so much more to reading the Magazine...
Well done SI !

ALL-STAR COVER MODEL BEACH PARTY GRACES THE COVER OFTHE 2006 SPORTS ILLUSTRATED SWIMSUIT ISSUE

MOST MODELS EVER TO APPEAR ON ONE SI COVER

The 2006 SPORTS ILLUSTRATED Swimsuit Issue features 25 of the world's most beautiful supermodels, including eight who grace this year's cover, posing at spectacular locations around the world. The eight models who appear on the cover are Carolyn Murphy, Daniela Pestova, Elle Macpherson, Elsa Benitez, Rachel Hunter, Rebecca Romijn, Veronica Varekova and Yamila Diaz-Rahi.

In addition to 25 supermodels, this is the ninth consecutive year the issue has featured a figure from the world of sports. The only athlete to grace the pages of this year's issue is tennis superstar Maria Sharapova.

This year's issue is the eighth orchestrated by Senior Editor Diane Smith. The annual search for paradisiacal locales took the magazine to eight exotic locations: Harbour Island and Cat Island in the Bahamas, Hollywood,Huahine in French Polyneisa, Las Vegas, Colombia, Palm Springs and Turks & Caicos.

In Palm Springs, 2003 cover model Petra Nemcova posed in her first SI shoot since surviving last year's Asian tsunami. Nemcova is also the subject of SI columnist Rick Reilly's back-page story, "Petra Shines On".

Veteran SI starlets Anne V and Noemie Lenoir hit the Hollywood hills and the streets of Los Angeles with rookie Yesica Toscanini. SI favorites Ana Beatriz Barros, Fernanda Motta and Mallory Snyder joined first-timer Aline Nakashima in stunning Huahine in French Polynesia. Molly Sims, star of NBC's Las Vegas, posed all around Sin City, including the roulette tables. Colombia's San Pedro de Majagua played host to rookies Brooklyn Decker & Pania Rose and second-year SI model Oluchi Onweagba. SI veterans Bridget Hall, Daniella Sarahyba and Marisa Miller welcomed newcomer Carla Campbell to the white sand beaches of Cat Island in the Bahamas.

Body paint artist Joanne Gair has sprayed and brushed swimsuits on some of the world's most beautiful women for SI since 1999. This year her inspiration is 1998 cover model Heidi Klum. Gair, who also photographed the spread, styled Heidi as a glamour girl of old Hollywood in four captivating suits and sexy poses. ... Read more

There's no better fan than a Cleveland fan!And if you are, no matter what sport (or all), you will love this issue. It celebrates the good times and the "almosts".Being a Browns and Indians fan my whole life, and now living on the East Coast, this was a must have.My favorite section was the "faces" and stories of the fans.I identified with all of them, and they were all really touching. For some of them, I cried all over again. It's good to know we're all out there in support of each other and our team, no matter what, and that's what it really means to be a Cleveland fan. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must read to improve your clay target scores
Having shot clay targets for a few years. The ideas in the book were not out of the blue. The author just layed it out in a clear manner. I especially liked the way in which he list the different level ofshooters. So you can get a better feel where you are and what you need totrain on.....I would recomend this book to anyone who wants to inprovetheir score in any of the clay target sport...It is not written for agolfers eyes it is written in a shooters eyes. So the visualization processis easier to see the point ans the Targets turn to Dust.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thorough & In-depth "System"
My shooting buddies and I have had many discussions around the mental side of the game."How do you turn it on?""If you really concentrate on winning the big tournament, you will put too much pressureon yourself."

Dr. Keyes really puts all the mental aspects ofshooting together into a comprehensive system that can allow you to knowwhere you are mentally and how to get where you want to go.Veryinterestingand enlightening.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
I have read this book and you will find many jewels of how to "think" and how "not to think" when shooting clay targets in competition. It is well worth reading. The slower you readthis book the more you will retain for there is much here hidden withineach page. Many top shooters I know have read this book, you should too. ...
