5-0 out of 5 stars The item I ordered delivered on time
The book was in better condition than it said on the website. It had very minimal writing in it.The book was in perfect condition other than that.I received the book during the time it said for shipment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Service
Multinational Business Finance (11th Edition) (The Addison-Wesley Series in Finance) The book isn't that good for a Finance course, but the seller was very prompt with shipping product after recieving payment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Multnational Business Finance
The book came so quickly and was in the condition it was described, good with minimal highlighting. Very happy with it

2-0 out of 5 stars Book Not worth the Money Paid
Too much money for a useless book!!!!

I strongly agree with the two reviews previous to mine. The book gets you interested at the begining, but let you down afterwards. It has little depth in the topics and many flaws when comes to explaining things. In exemple, the "Fisher Effect" was never explained, but all the book gives you is the formula. There is little explanation about the components and variables in the formulas. So, you have to rely heavily on your instructor.

There are almost no calculation examples and use of formulas. The teory in the book is not well explained either. So, you get more confused. That in my opinion is because the authors did not spend enough time to present the material clearly and the editors did not review and edit the book to increase the readability and comprehension. To illustrate what I am talking about, there is a lot of white space in the book (implies it lacks substance) and the text refers to graphs or charts shown in one/two pages before or after. Compared to other finance books I had in the past, this whole book looks like a compilation of bad summary sections.

In conclusion, it was not worth the money. It got me confused and wasted my time. In case you have to use it because it is mandatory, rely on your notes and instrutor's lectures.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lacks cohesion
This book has cursory overview of everthing and lacks detail. Also, each chapter starts well to get you excited on what you are going to learn and at the end of each chapter, you can't really tell whether it addressed the topics in enough details to give you the necessary understanding. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars 1 month after order
I couldn't receive the book yet. It's been over 1 month since I have ordered the book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good not excellent
This is a solid book that covers some of the topics quite well.I would give it a higher mark had I not being reading, at the same time, another book on the topic, Prepare for the Worst, Plan for the Best: Disaster Preparedness and Recovery for Small Businesses, by D. Childs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, but not definitive.
I am a researcher within Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM), which has many similarities with Business Continuity Management (BCM). That is why SCRM can and should draw upon BCM for advice. One of many good references for further reading on this subject is the The Definitive Handbook of Business Continuity Management. I haven't read enough books on BCM to say that this is "the definitive" handbook; it certainly is "a comprehensive" handbook. This 600-something pages heavy brick of a book is probably not something you read from cover to cover. I did. Well, most of it, that's how my weekend went by in a fly...

The book has 25 chapters, each written by different contributors and basically self-contained, which means that even if you read only one chapter, you will still have gained valuable insight into what BCM entails. Inevitably there is some replication from author to author; that is because they are discussing the same concept, but from their own experience and their own perspective. This makes up the first 400 pages of the book. Not all contributions are really good, but some are outstanding and clearly coney the message of BCM. The next 100 or so pages contain 26 case studies, with lessons learned and not learned, what to and what not to do, pitfalls, challenges and sucesses. The book also has space for pages on current US/UK/AU/NZ legislation, in particular the UK Civil Contingencies Act and its implication for businesses. Add to that a section on business continuity planning in Asia, indeed necessary in this age of globalization and outsorcing, and a glossary of the most used terms in BCM. What impresses me too is the 42-page keyword index, leaving practically nothing uncovered.

In conclusion: a very comprehensive, but maybe not definitive handbook.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleasant Overview of Business Continuity Management
Reading the material presented is a breeze. Unfortunately, it is unfair for me to pass judgement on the subject matter, as I am still a novice. Common concepts and definitions are presented on Section 1 while Section 2 expounds on the implementation aspects. Being a newbie I was somewhat impressed that the tasks involved even include mitigating human factors such as psychological effects, as well as a taskforce to handle the media with its coverage of any disaster that might be detrimental to the image of the company. An interesting concept presented was "Multilateral Business Continuity", as it raised questions on whether your business partner's (major customer, supplier, logistics) failure could even spell doom for your business.

BCM is presented as an all-encompassing "way of life", ensuring that a business can survive a disaster and bounce back to its pre-disaster profit level, and the tasks and information that is required to ensure proper diagnosis, prescription and maintenance of a business. As one of the authors put it - "Do we gamble with failure or hedge against it".

Although presented as a collection of 20 articles it is seamlessly organized that the information did not appear redundant. After which Case studies are presented on major disasters that happened to corporations in America, most notably 9/11. Considering the scope of BCP/BCM (Business Continuity Planning) endeavour, the market for its implementation within Malaysia is limited to listed companies that can afford the methodology preached. Plus, Asian cultures abhor having outsiders prodding through every nook and cranny of their business process and resource points, isolating weaknesses and identifying exposure and making sure that the business is resilient enough to withstand a collapse of its major infrastructure. Not only that, to ensure success, key personnel from all sectors have to be identified and interactions and accountability documented with redundancies and multiple information and escalation routes introduced to ensure resiliency. At the end of the day, one would envy the consulting firm that manages such a wealth of information from any such companies, which one would assume will be sizeable enough to want BCP/BCM. What a treat indeed!

On the downside, as expected with books that compiles articles, the depth of the information presented is quite shallow, but fortunately for a person like myself that are new to the subject, it's quite a readable experience as that is exactly what I am looking for. It provides enough pieces to the puzzle for me to proceed with my r&d activities.

4-0 out of 5 stars Practical BCM at last!
This is a thoroughly welcome addition to the business continuity books on the market. It brings a clear, rational approach to a very complicated topic. Unsurprisingly, the book adheres to the ten stage process as definedby the Business Continuity Institute and the Disaster Recovery Instituteand is written in a style that is easy to read and with very little jargon.(It even gives guidelines on how to read the book.)

The book outlinessome important lessons:

- The Importance of business continuitymanagement

- Business continuity plans should be based on outcomescenarios and not causes

- The need for an organizeddevelopment/implementation

- BCM is never complete - amendments andtesting will always be required

There are a couple of points to notethough:

- It fails to deliver the message clearly that BusinessContinuity Management is an umbrella for business impact analysis, riskmanagement and business continuity planning. Too many people justconcentrate on the latter.

- My experience shows that many advantages aregained through the development of the plan when the business continuity isfirmly in the minds of those involved and the management sponsors(whohave allocated resources and funds). This is as important as the planitself.

- Unlike chapter 15 (Developing the written plan), Chapter 18(Selecting tools to support the process) is an example of where the booksits on a fence. It describes the types of tools required but gives noclear examples of data used. There are numerous examples that could havebeen used to illustrate this; perhaps this leaves the door open forconsultancy opportunities!

- Another downside to the book occurs as earlyas section one, which is described as an executive overview and is 75 pageslong!

Notwithstanding these minor grumbles, I would wholeheartedlyrecommend this book to anyone involved in BCM or anyone thinking aboutcreating a more secure business. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars shipped when promised as promised
the book came during the time frame promised in very good condition and for REALLY cheap. would definitely purchase from this seller again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Financial know-how for the HR professional
This is a good primer for non-finance professionals covering all the essentials of Finance and Budgeting. The book is co-published by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and is part of a series of books called "Business Literacy for HR Professionals." Accordingly, there are several chapters written exclusively for HR professionals such as the chapter on measuring human capital and the chapter on the balanced scorecard.

What I liked about this title is its use of recurring examples that are explored in greater depths as the book progresses; this created a sense of continuity for me and I was able to link the different concepts and ideas effectively despite the 'dryness' of the topic. The only reason this book does not warrant a 5-star for me is two-fold: The order of the topics didn't really make sense and the book is extremely plain. I am a visual person and better graphics and colors would have helped me focus and maintain attention.

As an HR professional, I found the book covered all the aspects of Finance and budgeting I need to understand in order to operate effectively in the corporate world. I especially appreciated the practical implementation suggestions that are included in almost all the chapter. For example, there is a detailed methodology for implementing a balanced scorecard system in Chapter 4 as well as a step-by-step process for developing a budget in Chapter 9.

There are 14 chapters in total as well as several appendices for templates:
1-Finance and the HR professional
2-Financial statements
3-Finding meaning in financial statements
4-From financial measures to a balanced scorecard
5-Important accounting concepts
6-Taxes
7-Financing operations and growth
8-Money and capital markets

4-0 out of 5 stars Insightful and Pratical
Well written, engaging, insightful, and practical. Gave me the tools I needed to successfully implement a new, large scale performance management initiative at my organization.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good For the Basics But...
I am giving the book two out of five stars based on the author's own five-point scale. In her scale a "2" is "sometimes meets and sometimes falls below standards".

The author uses text boxes inset into the body of her chapters. The information is helpful and sometimes summarizes the points she is making. Unfortunately the overall effect, at least for this reader, was distracting. People sometimes develop Powerpoint presentations from books. This seemed almost like a book developed from a Powerpoint presentation.

Overall the author does a good job of summarizing trends in performance management and separates performance management into two basic categories, systems used for employee development and systems used to determine pay and promotions.

Even though the book was published in 2009 it already needs at least slight revision. One federal government pay for performance system she alludes to failed and was in the process of being dismantled by the end of 2009. Another similar system is at least temporarily in limbo and its future is uncertain. Whether other revisions are required is unclear.

The use of either a five-point or seven point scale to describe employee performance advocated by the author leaves the reader with a question. The author agrees that if employees are generally capable and want to do a good job some clustering of scores will take place in the upper end of either the five or seven point scale. This clustering would appear to suggest that practical determinations of pay and promotion will be determined by fractional points of difference between employees. The method of determining these fractional differences is admittedly imprecise. The combination of imprecision and small measurable difference between employees would appear to make legal defenses of pay and promotion decisions taken under such systems at least somewhat problematic.

The author appears to suggest that inflationary trends in a fixed five or seven point evaluation system can be resolved by moving the goal posts on the field farther and farther apart every year. I do not find movable goal posts to be an effective motivational technique. Other managers are entitled to disagree. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great resource for students and teachers alike!
The IB Business and Management Study Guide is not your usual textbook, and as such is perfect for teaching a subject that changes as fast as this one. All the points in the syllabus are covered in great details (including precious exam tips), but the Guide leaves the freedom for teachers to create their own resources, taking into account the specificities of their school and environment, their students' learning styles and their own preferences. Those who are new to the subject will find it invaluable as a desk reference, while experienced teachers will probably tell their students to keep it as a home-based resource. As an IB examiner, I wholeheartedly recommend it to IB schools worldwide.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Primer or Refresher
This book is an excellent primer or refresher course on the basics of finance and accounting in business. This book is clearly not aimed at finance or accounting folks working in business today as the presented material is far too high level and basic. However, if it has been some years since you have dealt with this material in school, if you have always been on the periphery of this material at work, or if you have never encountered these subjects, then this is a great book to get you going.

The very thought of the subject matter might make some sleepy, but credit to the authors for covering this subject in a short, concise, and relevant way.To the extent that a book of this type could be considered a "page turner" I think this book is it.The subjects are covered using every day language in an efficient and quick moving manner. You never get bogged down in any one subject or esoteric detail and there is nothing academic about the writing style.

On the back cover of the book it is mentioned that the Harvard Business Essentials is designed to provide "comprehensive advice"... While this is clearly marketing speak, it is still quite untrue. There is nothing comprehensive about this book so folks should be careful about taking the Harvard name and the notion of "comprehensive advice" as if this is some sort of definitive text on the subject of finance in business. The material is at the level of the most basic introductory course and if you go in understanding this and desire something to either get you going on the subject or refresh your memory from long ago study, I think this book will fit the bill nicely.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Book, Wrong Audience
"Finance for Managers" is short and clearly-written.It's a good book for non-business people (like me) who want to be smarter readers of business and economic news. However, it strikes me as too elementary to be of value to real non-financial managers (the supposed audience), who studied business at college and already know the basics of discounted present value, ratio analysis, the risks and rewards of leverage, and so forth. The good thing about "Finance for Managers" is that it NEVER goes beyond the bare basics. But that's also the bad thing.

3-0 out of 5 stars A nice survey of financial reporting
The book contains a number of good articles, introducing some important, basic accounting and finance concepts for non-financial managers. The chapters on Financing Operations and Growth, Budgeting, Practical Tools for Management Decisions and Valuation Concepts were the most informative and relevant.Others, like Taxation and The Time Value of MOney were too simplistic. An OK book if you have limited time to devote to the subject, but it really won't do much more than introduce you to some useful vocabulary, so you won't feel completely intimidated when dealing with your finance staff.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly reccomended
If your knowledge of Financial Management is limited or shallow this is your book: Clear, direct, brief, full of examples and easy to read.

It wasn't all what I had expected - I thought it would have given a deeper insight also to the financing aspects. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible ediition
I used this book for my international finance class last quarter. The new edition is terrible. At the end of each chapter, there are problems to be solved. There is a least one question per chapter that does not make sense. For example, a question will refer to a chart on the following page...but there is no chart on the following page (or in the book). Many, many instances of issues like this. It's like someone wanted to make changes for the new edition, but got distracted as he/she was rewriting the problems and no one bothered to proofread the changes for accuracy. There were several instances when the teacher had to read us the question from the teacher's edition (which is correct) so we would have some idea of what needed to be solved.

I purchased my book new and within a week the binding began coming apart.I just thought I had a bad copy but I spoke with other students and they had the same issue.

So if you want a book that is manufactured poorly with numerous proofreading errors, this is your book.If possible, I would wait until another edition is released so they can get their errors fixed.

Oh BTW, I got an "A". ... Read more

the book is in good condition and was fast shipped!y spend more on the other version? they have almost the same content

1-0 out of 5 stars Horribly Confusing Text
I have to agree with many of the reviewers here that this textbook is downright terrible. Most of the equations asked in questions are not introduced in the text leaving a student to either search the internet, or struggle to figure it out on their own.Luckily, the instructor posted the answer key for all of the end of chapter problems. However, many of the answers are as confusing as the text, and similar questions are often answered with completely different equations, not shown in the readings of the text.Finance should not be this confusing, thank God I found some great internet sites that helped me through this class. Why can't someone right a textbook that doesn't confuse the hell out of students? If this text is required for your course, I hope that you have a very good professor leading the class, or you will have a hell of a semester getting through finance.

3-0 out of 5 stars Almost complete
This is a good primer on management, but don't think that by attending a class with this book that you are prepared to attack the business community and win. This is one of many books published by McGraw-Hill that cover business, and I find them all a little more difficult to put things together than other books on these subjects. Since these are text books and not how to manuals they are about right if you have a teacher that has actually been in business.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Thorough
The book is very thorough, it covers all the major topics and then some of business logistics

1-0 out of 5 stars would not recommend
we are in the logistics business and I reviewed this book as a potential teaching tool for management. The book is unfortunatley of little to no value. Most concerning is that the mathematics for inventory management, a critical factor in understanding logistics, are simply wrong. Even a quick look by anyone familiar with inventory management would find this concerning.

5-0 out of 5 stars Immediate delivery
The book was in great condition for being used amd I received it in half the time!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book has been dramatically improved in the 7th edition
The book takes the reader progressively from the most simple concepts to the complexities of logistics. It is true that this is not a quantitive book, but it is a very conceptual and didactic logistics book with many cases and graphs. An internet site provided by the publisher with transparencies, internet site references, and other supports to this book makes it an excellent tool. There is a lot of value in the package offered. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Adapt or Perish

This is one in a series of several dozen volumes that comprise the "Harvard Business Review Paperback Series." Each offers direct, convenient, and inexpensive access to the best thinking on the given subject in articles originally published by the Harvard Business School Review. I strongly recommend all of the volumes in the series. The individual titles are listed at this Web site: www.hbsp.harvard.edu. The authors of various articles are among the world's most highly regarded experts on the given subject. Each volume has been carefully edited. Supplementary commentaries are also provided in most of the volumes, as is an "About the Contributors" section that usually includes suggestions of other sources that some readers may wish to explore.

In this volume, the reader is provided with eight articles whose authors provide a variety of perspectives on how to strengthen an organization by making necessary changes while minimizing fear, frustration, and resistance. All of the articles first appeared in the HBR from January-February, 1992, to May-June, 1997; some but remarkably little of the material is dated. Here are some of the important business issues to which the contributors direct their (and our) attention:

Which seem to be the most common mistakes made by executives? ("Leading Change" John P. Kotter)
Comment: Kotter identifies eight and suggests how to avoid or repair them.

How to avoid a vague and fuzzy vision concept? ("Building Your Company's Vision," James C. Collins and Jerry I Porras)
Comment: Collins and Porras offer a framework that has two principal parts: core ideology and envisioned future. It was in this article that they introduced their concept of the "Big Hairy Audacious Goal" (BHAG).

How to focus only on what is most important? ("Managing Change: The Art of Balancing," Jeanie Daniel Duck)
Comment: When managing change, "the challenge is to innovate mental work, not to replicate physical work. The goal is to teach [everyone involved] how to think strategically, recognize patterns, and anticipate problems and opportunities before they occur."

Why is context so important to beneficial reinvention? ("The Reinvention Roller Coaster: Risking the Present for a Powerful Future," Tracy Goss, Richard Pascale, and Anthony Athos)
Comment: The authors assert that reinvention is not changing what is, but creating what isn't. They explain the importance of assembling a critical mass of key stakeholders, completing an organizational audit, creating urgency while discussing the "undiscussable," harnessing contention, and effectively engineering organizational breakdowns [i.e. what Joseph Schumpeter characterizes as "creative destruction].

What can be learned from the experiences of troubled companies that have fallen victim to "a syndrome with four discernible stages"?("Changing the Mind of the Corporation," Roger Martin)
Comment: Martin explains what the syndrome is, and, how to avoid or escape from it.

How to accommodate the fact that employees and those who supervise them see change differently? ("Why Do Employees Resist Change?," Paul Strebel)
Comment: Strebel explains what "personal compacts" are, and, how they can they help to reduce resistance to change initiatives.

What to do when an organization seems to be on "death's door"? ("Reshaping an Industry: Lockheed Martin's Survival Story," Norman R. Augustine)
Comment: Augustine offers various "sometimes painful" lessons he learned about best practices when attempting to restructure an endangered organization. He served as chairman and CEO of Martin Marietta for eight years until it became part of Lockheed Martin where he also served as chairman and CEO.

What do results-driven improvement programs involve? ("Successful Change Programs Begin with Results," Robert H. Schaefer and Harvey A. Thomson)
Comment: Early in this article, Schaefer and Thomson observe that most improvement efforts "have as much impact on company performance as a rain dance has on the weather." Then on page 195, they provide an especially informative graphic by which to compare and contrast activity-centered programs with results-driven programs. They then

Those who share my high regard for this volume are urged to check out other volumes in the Harvard Business Review Paperback Series, especially HBR on Leading Through Change and HBR on Becoming a High Performance Manager. Also, James O'Toole's Leading Change, Enterprise Architecture As Strategy co-authored by Jeanne W. Ross, Peter Weill, and David Robertson, Ram Charan's Know-How, Richard Ogle's Smart World, and Seeing What's Next co-authored by Clayton M. Christensen, Scott D. Anthony, and Erik A. Roth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book! Just don't buy the eBook copy!
It's a decent book that outline the necessary steps and precautions that need to re-engineer your company. However, I made a mistake by buying the eBook copy of this book because I needed it right the way. However, for this eBook, I cannot print any of the pages and, worse yet, I can't view the book on another PC.So my suggestion is that DON'T BUY eBOOK, it's the worst investment you can make.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, and in addition.
This is a very good series of articles. In addition, I strongly recommend "Strategic Organizational Change" by Beitler. It is time and money well spent.

5-0 out of 5 stars A positive goldmine

In the nicest possible sense, this book isn't exactly what the title claims. All to often discussions of change management tend to concentrate on the people side of things and ignore the less glamerous topics such as re-tooling, revised administrative and reporting procedures and so on.
So, just to keep the record straight, this book is primarily concerned with the personnel aspects of change, with all other aspects of the overall process taking a very secondary part in the proceedings.

And now, on with the review:

One of the ways I judge a book like this is by the number of highlights I've made (makes it so much easier to refer back to the key points).
Sometimes I'll go through an entire book and be lucky to have half a dozen highlighted passage.

NOT here, though.

Without a hint of exaggeration I found numerous points worth highlighting in every one of the eight reprinted articles.

Of course this is not entirely surprising given the list of contributors, which includes such "leaders of the pack" as John Cotter ("Leading Change"), Richard Pascale and Anthony Athos ("The Reinvention Roller Coaster"), and Jerry Porras (Building Your Company's Vision").

I'd also like to commend the article "Managing Change : The Art of Balancing", by Jeanie Daniel Duck, (which ended up with highlighting on nearly every page!).

So, whilst the material is not exactly new (the various items appeared in the Harvard Business Review between 1992 and 1998), I'd suggest this well-chosen set of articles is as important now as when the articles were first published.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tight, Concise and Has Executive Summaries
Do you prefer tight, concise articles compared to eloquent tomes, simply because you don't have the time to read as much as you might like? If that's the case, then here is a great book on change management just for you. This collection is one in a series from the Harvard Business Review, and is just about the most wide-ranging printed resource that this writer has found available for taking on corporate change.

There are articles from such leading authorities on change management as John Kotter (Leading Change), Paul Strebel, and more. Each article opens with an executive summary, helping you decide if you want to tackle that article then and there, or move on to another that fits your interests of the moment.

Sooner or later, change is about people altering the status quo, and those in charge often turn a blind eye to the fact that leadership is singularly the most important issue when an organization has to implement major changes. This is followed closely by teamwork, of which there won't be any without leadership.

Inside the covers you'll find the collected knowledge, opinions and counsel of those executives and consultants who have dealt with change at all levels. If your schedule doesn't permit you to leisurely meander through hundreds of pages to find a few workable ideas upon which to build some change solutions, then this collection should be highly recommended for you. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Reliable seller
I am amazed that the seller of the book shipped within record time. Anytime, I will always look for the same seller and even refer my friends. The book was in the state that was described on the website. Thanks.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must read for young professionals or new Managers
If you are a young manager or are new to management, check out the section on "Saving Rookie Managers from Themselves." I caught myself doing some of the rookie mistakes that they outline in here. It's difficult to make the transition from being an individual performer into someone that leads/directs others performance and it is also easy to alienate yourself from subordinates in the process. I found it to be insightful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for Business Owners
What else is there to say, this is great for business owners. Want to learn how to be a manager, that is how to do it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not a recipe, but a collection of ideas
This review is supposed to tell the potential reader what to expect from this book, based on the confession that I highly recommend reading this book.

This book is NOT A RECIPE. If you look for a "recipe" as to how to become a high performance manager, I would recommend Stephen Covey's classic on the 7 habits of highly effective people.

This book IS a perfect checklist to compare your behvior as a manager to the recommendations of people who have given the topic "high performance management" much professional thought. The art of excellent delegation and time management is broadly discussed. Multiple warnings are placed concerning the "busy manager" - one of the most dangerous symptoms in management.

If you are one your way as a junior or senior manager, read this excellent checklist - the investment will pay off.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to get more and better work done in less time, with fewer distractions

In this volume, the reader is provided with eight articles whose authors provide a variety of perspectives on how to become a high performance manager. Given when they first appeared in the HBR (1982-2002), some but remarkably little of the material is dated. Here are some of the important business issues to which the contributors respond:

How to delegate effectively so that report-to's are personally accountable for fulfilling their obligations? ("Who's Got the Monkey?," William Oncken, Jr. and Donald L. Wass)

How to focus only on what is most important? ("Beware the Busy Manager," Heike Bruch and Sumantra Ghosal)

How to decide what to do despite uncertainty and an enormous amount of potentially relevant information? ("What Effective General Managers Really Do," John P. Kotter)

What is the "performance pyramid" and how can this model increase professional performance and improve quality of life? ("The Making of a Corporate Athlete," Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz)

How can executives effectively organize day-to-day activities, improve their performance under pressure, and get subordinates to become more productive? ("Managers Can Avoid Wasting Time," Ronald N. Ashkenas and Robert H. Schaffer)

What are some of "the very real dangers of executive coaching" and how to avoid them? (Steven Berglas)

Note: In another article, "All in a Day's Work," Harris Collinwood and Julia Kirby co-moderate a discussion of various leadership issues by six experts from the corporate world, the non-profit sector, and academia.

Those who share my high regard for this volume are urged to check out the recently published Harvard Business Review on Making Smarter Decisions as well as other series title in the Harvard Business Review Paperback Series such as those on Change, Corporate Strategy, Decision Making, Effective Communication, the Innovative Enterprise, Leadership, Leadership at the Top, and Measuring Corporate Performance.

Product Description
What Makes Business Initiatives Regarding the Environment Succeed or Fail? With this book you'll gain the necessary skills to develop an effective corporate environmental strategy. It is organized around three classic global needs shared by both business strategists and environmental leaders: achieving compliance, recognizing business opportunity, and answering public expectations. The cases in this text are designed to reach both experienced managers and newcomers, through a compelling conceptual narrative that connects basic business needs with mounting environmental and energy choices. "Environmental compliance is no longer the target but the floor from which economic value can be created. Recognizing economic opportunities and getting the affected public to understand the greater benefits are why we hired the AHC Group and its Rensselaer team of researchers in the first place. This books brings these critical components in focus with practical examples, insightful discussions and helpful resources to assist any company's management in developing successful environmental business strategy. Its appeal to newcomers resides in its readability and effective prose." - Steven P. Rowe, Assistant General Counsel and lead environmental manager at Holnam, Inc. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Ego got in the way of a good book
The basic premise of the book is good, but the author tends to rely too much on recycled material , such as contributions from his magazine, without taking the time to realy expand upon the topics. The author shouldeither expand his cases, or have his contributors use fresh material -recycling is for material goods, not stories.

3-0 out of 5 stars Is this a book or an infomertial for RPI and the magazine?
Having read several books by the author, I was somewhat disappointed on several planes: his use of old material from his magazine and lack of expanded coverage from his many contributors.Case studies need room tobreathe, brevity is not necessarily helpful in this case. The authorscould also go beyond their stable of previous writers and RPI alumni forassistance.

Is this a discussion about solving environmental problemsor is this book an infomertial for Corporate Environmental Strategy andRPI?

3-0 out of 5 stars Good material, less good bridging of topics
While this book has merit for what it presents, it jumps around too much, and leaves this reader with more questions than the book can actually answer.
