The updated Revision of the Bestseller--In a more Useful Format!

Mechanical Engineers' Handbook has a long tradition as a single resource of valuable information related to specialty areas in the diverse industries and job functions in which mechanical engineers work. This Third Edition, the most aggressive revision to date, goes beyond the straight data, formulas, and calculations provided in other handbooks and focuses on authoritative discussions, real-world examples, and insightful analyses while covering more topics that in previous editions.

Book 2: Instrumentation, Systems, Controls, and MEMS is comprised of two major parts, conveniently put together because feedback control systems require measurement transducers. The first part covers instrumentation, including transducer design, strain gages, flow meters, digital integrated circuits, and issues involved in processing transducer signals and acquiring and displaying data.
The second part addresses systems and control, including:
* Control system design, analysis, and performance modification
* Design of servoactuators, controllers, and general-purpose control devices
* "New departures" in mechanical engineering, including neural networks, mechatronics, and MEMS ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for reference, Johnny (johnny@ztrproducts.com)
This is a great book for reference. It doesn't have exhaustive content into any one subject, but it has information on a lot of different subjects. The main thing I use if for is vocabulary.I can get keywords on a subject that I am not an expert on and search for more detailed information.

This book is a great start into a great many subjects, but it is not an authority on a subject. If you want to know detailed knowledge about a subject, then get a book on that subject. ... Read more

Product Description

Encyclopedias describe Mechanical Engineering as a professional engineering discipline that involves the application of principles of physics for analysis, design, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems. It requires a solid understanding of key concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics and energy. Mechanical engineers use these principles and others for example in the design and analysis of automobiles, aircrafts, heating and cooling systems, industrial equipment and machinery. In addition to these main areas, specialized fields are offered at universities to prepare future engineers for their position in industry, such as: mechatronics and robotics, transportation and logistics, cryogenics, fuel technology, automotive engineering, biomechanics, vibration, optics and others.

Accordingly, the Springer Handbook of Mechanical Engineering devotes its contents to these areas of interest for the practicing engineer as well as for the student at various levels and educational institutions.

Authors from all over the world have contributed with their expertise and support the globally working engineer in finding a solution for today’s mechanical engineering problems.

Product Description
Since the explosion in microprocessor-based products in the 1980s, mechanical engineers can no longer restrict their interest purely to the mechanical aspects of design. This book introduces the basic principles of electrical technology, before moving on to cover such topics as instrumentation sensors and measurement; electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems; microprocessor technology; interfacing principles; high- and low-level programming; continuous and discrete fundamentals; and system modelling. Coverage encompasses a multidisciplinary range of subject material normally associated with the general philosophy of mechatronics. Later chapters present the integration of electronics and computer technology through the control of mechanical systems and processes. Finally, an entire chapter is devoted to detailed descriptions of working solutions to practical engineering problems. These should instil a basic level of confidence in the reader, allowing her/him to apply new technological principles to the development of solutions for their own requirements. ... Read more

Product Description
Aspiring engineers have long needed a text that prepares them to use thermodynamics in professional practice. Thermodynamics instructors need a concise textbook written for a one-semester undergraduate course-a text that foregoes clutter and unnecessary details but furnishes the essential facts and methods.Thermodynamics for Engineers fills both those needs. Paying special attention to the learning process, the author has developed a unique, practical guide to classical thermodynamics. His approach is remarkably cohesive. For example, he develops the same example through his presentation of the first law and both forms of the second law- entropy and exergy. He also unifies his treatments of the conservation of energy, the creation of entropy, and the destruction of availability by using a balance equation for each, thus emphasizing the commonality between the laws and allowing easier comprehension and use.Accessible, practical, and cohesive, Thermodynamics for Engineers builds a solid foundation for advanced engineering studies and practice. It exposes students to the "big picture" of thermodynamics, and its streamlined presentation allows glimpses into important concepts and methods rarely offered by texts at this level. ... Read more

Product Description
While teaching Java programming at Minnesota State University, the authors noticed that engineering students were enrolling in Java programming courses in order to obtain basic programming skills, but there were no Java books suitable for courses intended for engineers. They realized the need for a comprehensive Java programming tutorial that offers basic programming skills that can be applied in the field of engineering. With this in mind, the authors developed Java Programming for Engineers in order to meet the needs of both engineers and engineering students. The text uses the personal computer as a development platform and assumes no prior programming experience or knowledge. The only skills expected of the reader are basic keyboarding and user-level familiarity with the PC. Topics covered range from mathematical expressions to linear systems to engineering graphics. Chapters on problem solving skills and the designing of engineering applications walk readers through real word problems they might encounter. Divided into two parts, Part 1 is a description of the Java language, of the fundamentals of object orientation, input and output operations, and error handling. Part 2 is about Java programming for engineers. It starts with computer number systems, fixed- and variable-precision numeric data, mathematical programming in Java as could be of interest to engineers, and concludes with an overview of Java Graphics. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Do Engineers Need Java?
Most Java programming books are written assuming that the reader will be programming full time. Fair enough. But there is an important subset of readers to whom programming is only a side issue. They have other interests and duties. Not surprisingly, the typical Java book is not geared towards them. For one thing, it might assume a prior level of programming experience which they simply do not have. Plus, the book might simply be too long, and go into programming issues that are not really germane to them.

Such a description of readers neatly encompasses many engineering students. The authors have attempted to address this by providing a Java text geared explicitly towards this audience. They describe Java to the minimal extent necessary for a student to quickly be able to do useful computations. Trickier than teaching Fortran, because the object oriented nature of Java needs a little more explanation and a little more getting used to by the student.

They assume that the usual engineering computation will not require a long program. It is for the latter that Java and its OO nature are really geared to. Hence, the authors deprecate such things like interfaces, though these are mentioned. Because these are meant to aid building complex structured code.

The graphics treatment is a little cursory, frankly. A student wanting to put a GUI in front of her code should really look elsewhere for guidance. But if a student has a primarily computational task, then a simple GUI might suffice, or even just stdout. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Dictionary of MATLAB & Mechanics
I've just got this book 2 hours ago, and skimmed all the 608 pages twice. I have to say this book is amazing, and Dr. Rao V Dukkipati, the author of the book, has done an excellent job.

This book isn't a normal MATLAB book teaching common programmings and stuff, but a dictionary of MATLAB and mechanics. (This is a book highly specialized for engineers.)

I also have a book called "MATLAB a practical introduction to programming and problem solving" written by Stormy Attaway. It is a well-written book too, but not for my use in college so, it's been in my bookshelf.

I highly recommend you to use Ch. 1 and 2 as a dictionary. These chapters make your life a lot easier. Ch. 3 will be your great reference of solving actual engineering problems using MATLAB. You don't expect this kind of stuff from other MATLAB books.

If you are not satisfied with usual MATLAB books, get this one. Investing 100 bucks on this is really cheap if you wish to use MATLAB for engineering classes and real life application. ... Read more
