5-0 out of 5 stars The best book seller
I received the book very quickly and in good condition, as described. I highly recommend this book seller.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, great pictures for microbiology
The pictures in this atlas were very clear. It made microbiology more fun to learn. The pictures of bacteria, viruses and fungi complimented my preparation for the test.I also found Microbiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi to be an excellent source for question test preparation for my university exams.

4-0 out of 5 stars little book with great information
This book gives the beginner useful informations in the field of microbiology. Although this book dose not include everything, it's impressive tables and figures makes itself as a useful tool for the students engaged in microbiology. Easy approach is another feature of this book. I recommand that those who are interesting in the field of microbiology should get one book like this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful Compact Paper Back Book
A nice short compact medical microbiology text.I didn't use it much for the theory, rather I used it for the diagrams and especially the photographs. The photographs were good. I particulary enjoyed the bacteriology section. Many bacterial culture plates were demonstrated in photograph form. Though it covered the most common types of diseases, I wish it would of covered the more esoteric diseases that are commonly placed on medical board examinations.Nonetheless, the book is useful and worth the price if your looking for decent photos demonstrating laboratory diagnostics and some standard photo's of bacteria, fungi, and viruses.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best atlas for clinical microbiology college course
i used this atlas everyday in clinical microbiology lab. every page in the atlas is printed on high glossy quality paper. there are numerious color photos detailing how each microbe responds to certain diagnostic tests preformed in the lab. in my class we were given an unknown microbe and had to run tests on it to determine what the organism was and hand in are report - i could not have kept up if it wasn't for this book. it is very compact in size (not information) so it is very handy to have around in the lab while you run the tests and you can compare your results right on the spot. it fits right into the pocket of your lab coat. the price of the book is well worth it and i used it more than the lab book the college insisted that i purchase. FYI - i am pursuing a masters in microbiology and with the assistance of this book i got an a in this course. ... Read more

Pathologists, doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and anybody whose business concerns infectious diseases will find the book useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I used this book primarily during my microbiology course. I did reference it while I studied for Step 1 also. The end of this book that contains "Summary of Medically Important Bacteria/Virus/Fungi/Parasites" is a great resource to have. Get this one early and read it, then reference it as needed for your board prep.

5-0 out of 5 stars Medical Microbiology and Immunology
Warren Levinson is a genius! This book is absolutely brilliant.I would recommend it to almost anybody who doesn't like dumbed down books like Lippincott.Levinson's Microbiology is clear and comprehensive. It tells you exactly what to focus on, and cuts out extraneous details. The immunology section is even better! You'll love this book. The questions are even fantastic in helping you remember all the bugs, and the quick summary reviews at the end make this book worth your while. One recommendation for the next edition is to add more clinically relative laboratory perspectives.Make tables and keep reviewing until the day boards comes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for boards
This book is an excellent source for the boards. It reviews important topics that are important to know and gives you an advantage.I liked the format of the book and it made studying painless and more enjoyable.I also used the following:

1-0 out of 5 stars Too confusing
The immunology section of this book is the most convoluted reading I have had in all my readings for the step 1.Frankly, the figures are far superior in explaining what the author is trying to convey.Maybe this book was helpful for others but it just frustrated me and did not expand any more than what was already more concisely described in first aid.Bottom line, not worth the time.

4-0 out of 5 stars execllent
the immunlogy section is extra ordinary with concise yet comprehensive ! itsimplified not only for usmle but also for medical carrier, so it should study first before the other topics.
I think the book needs more thorough answers for usmle questions as most of us purchase for usmle reviews not for text !

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost excellent
I love this book but the reason i gave this book 4 stars is just because they didn't bother to correct some mistakes of the seventh edition. In this edition (eighth), on page 41 (Chapter 7) Botton note says: Pseudomonas aeruginosa {endotoxin} has the same mode of action. Refering to Diphtheria toxin. It should be {exotoxin}. Another example (to show you a few) is in the same chapter on page 43 table 7-13, it says:
    Nervous system
    Gram-positive rods:
    Clostridium tetani>>>>inhibit acetylcholine release
    Clostridium botulinum>>>>inhibit glycine release
As you can see they are mismatched.
So this book is almost perfect, excellent contents but with a few mistakes in some concepts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Currently the best Micro Review Book
Yes folks, this is better than Made Rediculously Simple. Well, let me rephrase that. I like this book a lot better. Now dont get me wrong, MRS is a good book and I use both, but if I could only choose one, I would go with this one.

First of all, it just came out this summer. So it does have some recent updates that MRS doesnt have, particularily with the antibiotics. I also think it offers better clinical scenarios and presentations of the various bugs. It is in depth with what you need to know, yet concise at the same time. Ive used it for class, and for board prep. Another thing, is that it doesnt have those silly mnemonics that can often be very far fetched and cumbersome. And yet one more thing, but may sound silly, is that I like the font and layout better. It makes more judicious use of tables as well to drive home key points.

And the best of all, is that it has over 600 USMLE style questions. I thought for the most part, they were indicative of what you will see on the real thing. Last but not least, it also has a great section devoted to medical immunology, so no need to buy another separate book.

So if you have money to get both, do it. But if you are trying to choose between the two, I say get this one. The LANGE Pharm and Board review book is good too. Good luck. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love them!Great for medical school microbiology!
I absolutely love these cards!I bought them to help me study for microbiology at the recommendation of some upper classmates, and they have been great.Unlike other cards, these ones have actual pictures of the organisms and other related symptomatic findings. The cards are full of key things you need to know about each, how each one would present, and how to treat each one (among other things). These have also been great for board study, since they highlight all of the main things you need to know.I love these cards, and only wish I had found them sooner! ... This set of 250 double-sided cards is intended to accompany Johnson's BRS Microbiology and Immunology 4E. The cards consist of a straightforward series of questions and answers intended to help students enrolled in basic science courses and studying for USMLE Step One. Utilizing a short phrase that triggers the recall of an answer, each card asks students to commit a key point to memory before moving on to the next card. In addition, they offer a unique advantage to the student by emphasizing the important details, rather than giving equal weight to all information about an organism. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool for USMLE 1 / COMLEX 1
Everything you could need to get micro questions correct - with space on the cards to annotate if there was anything else you wanted to remember about the bug (I added the abx to treat infxn). Would recommend to anyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great experience!
This seller was great! I got my flashcards very quickly and they were in perfect condition! The product is also a wonderful product and I've enjoyed reviewing these flashcards for my upcoming Board exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars Use these for micro review
These are REAL flash cards. One question, one answer (with a brief comment).Once you've gone through First Aid, these cards are excellent for reviewing the bugs.Although there are no color photos, I liked the systematic clip art for bacteria, nematodes, viruses, etc.The simple graphics helped me remember where the named species belonged in the grand scheme of micro flora.Since the cards are designed in a question/answer format, you can use them to quiz your study group (or yourself) when you just can't read anymore.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must buy them!!!
The cards are an asset for USMLE Step 1. Helped me a lot to memorize important info that you must know. They break the monotony of just reading. Use them with a friend and pretend you are playing!!!Excellent!! Good luck!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!!
I bought this book as a reference for the board certification exams in medical technology. It answered every question I needed to find an answer to and so much more. I passed my exams and I'm still using this book. If I need in-depth descriptions of an organism, it's all there. Medical technologists or students, you won't be disappointed with this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Microbiology book
Well, it is a little dry, but it is a micro text after all. What more can you expect? It was a great price at $50.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for one stop research
This is an excellent reference book. It is a bit much to use as a textbook as it has more more of an encyclopedia feel to it. Most chapters cite about 500 sources but can be as much as 1400 to give you an idea of the extent of the information condensed in this book. Key characteristics of bacteria are listed in charts in each chapter and some identification schemes are provided. This is clearly a text dedicated to bacteria (15 of 24 chapters). The remaining chapters are broader in their scope and cover things such as general microbiology practices, mycology, viruses, and parasitology.

4-0 out of 5 stars Large and In Charge!
Very good book, but very very heavy.Almost gave myself a hernia trying to lug it to school every day.Ended up just leaving it at home and using the library copy while at school and mine at home.It has anything and everything about microbiology and virology.Extremely in depth.Maybee too much so?Can be tedious to read from cover to cover.

Book is a great help in my Micro class.I read it before class, along with the text book that I paid $189.00.It broke stuff down too.Its like listening to the Prof.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent study guide
This book is much more well organized than my textbook. The review questions and practice tests at the end of every chapter really help reinforce the material that is given. I've gained a more thorough understanding of the material we go over in class by using this book. Highly recommended!

4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT EXPLANATORY BOOK!

5-0 out of 5 stars ref book to prep for classes
This book is exactly what I was looking for to read over the summer to prep for fall classes and keep my mind fresh.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME BOOK - A must buy if you're taking Microbiology
I have to say that this book is a AMAZING. I'm using it as a supplement to my note from class and it is more understandable then my 1000+ paged textbook. Of course I skim through my textbook since this book doesn't have EVERYTHING, but the essentials are summarized quite nicely. I felt like I was actually learning something as I read it! Although I have yet to take my first test for Micro, I feel that whatever grade I get, it is (by God's grace of course) with the help of this book that the grade will probably be higher, rather than burdening myself with reading 7 chapters about microbes.

A great supplement and a must buy. I recommended it to my friend, too. :) ... Read more

While medical and hygienic developments have driven down the mortality rates of infectious diseases, pathogenic microorganisms are still a major factor in everyday clinical practice. They are still the most frequent cause of death in third world countries. New and incurable infectious diseases are a worldwide problem. It is, therefore, necessary for modern medicine to double its efforts to understand the relationship between microorganisms and humans and continue to lead the search for new therapies.

This book is structured in a comprehensible format. The numerous color illustrations and microscopic images render complex themes readily accessible. Summaries at the beginning of every chapter, a color-coded reference guide, and detailed diagnostic tables make this an excellent sourcebook for rapid learning and quick reference. A list of important internet addresses in the appendix will also help readers keep abreast of cutting-edge research.

This book is both a textbook for students of medicine and dentistry and a useful companion for medical technicians and laboratory assistants. It will also serve as a handy work of reference for clinical practitioners.

Environmental Microbiology: A Laboratory Manual is designed to meet the diverse requirements of upper division and graduate-level laboratory sessions in environmental microbiology. The experiments introduce students to the activities of various organisms and the analyses used to study them. The book is organized into three thematic sections: Soil Microbiology, Water Microbiology, and Environmental Biotechnology. The first section includes experiments on the soil as a habitat for microorganisms, and introduces the main types of soil microorganisms, how they interact with the soil, and the techniques used in their analysis. Experiments in the second section cover assays of microbial pathogens--bacteria, viruses, and protozoan parasites--used in food and water quality control as well as an exercise in applied bioremediation of contaminants in water. The final section on biotechnology includes applications of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the detection of bacteria and the use of enrichment cultures and a computer-based, physiological test bank to isolate and identify a bacterium useful in bioremediation. Designed for maximum versatility and ease of use for both the student and instructor, each experiment is self-contained and includes theoretical, practical, and pedagogical material.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent reference book
Books like this are difficult to just sit down and read. This Lange Micro book however has pretty good 10-15 page sections that great for rapid review before a test.It is also indexed well, so it is a good "go to" book when needing answers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book as foundation for medical microbiology students
I used this as one of my required texts for my microbiology class in med school. It had very good sections on parasitology, viruses, etc.It was fun learning the what parasites are endemic to certain regions of the world and what symptoms they cause.I was used the following: Microbiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi. This second book was great because it was thorough in the aspects of test preparation in these various ways: it helped me prepare for the type of questions asked by my microbiology professor. In this way when I was studying I knew which facts to study harder and to know better.I easily got in the top 1% of my medical microbiology in grades with the help of these two books.I give each book five stars.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too much information
This book offers a very comprehensive look at microbiology and virology(with some immunology and parasitology thrown in); unfortunately, that'snot a good thing if you're trying to study from it.The chapters are fullof information on lab values and other minutiae that will be of interest toonly those who make a living in the field.Otherwise, you'll have tosearch hard to pick out the relevant details that are worth remembering. There are definitely better, easier to use books on the market than thisone

depending on the focus of your course, this might not have enough clinical case-related material.Great for the "big flick" with a very well laid out presentation (not enough pix or graphs), very good overall.Lot's of people in my class chose the Appleton and Lange (same publisher) 'Review" version of this book (blue cover). ...
