It was the last week in the month of November, 18--.

The weather, for some days previous, had been unusually boisterous for the time of year, and had culminated, on the morning on which my story opens, in a "November gale" from the south-west, exceeding in violence any previous gale within the memory of "the oldest inhabitant" of the locality. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars The text is all messed up.
I gave it one star, but maybe not so much to do with the story, the text display wasn't formatted right so the sentences were one word too long, making a line break after that one word.So it was staggered text, and hard to read.

The little I did read was ok, but the text issue may have been influencing my dislike of the story itself.

Fix the text asap, and then maybe I'll try to read it again. ... Read more

This is a true story of a search for buried treasure. The only part that is not true is the name of the man with whom I searched for the treasure. Unless I keep his name out of it he will not let me write the story, and, as it was his expedition and as my share of the treasure is only what I can make by writing the story, I must write as he dictates. I think the story should be told, because our experience was unique, and might be of benefit to others. And, besides, I need the money. ... Read more

Product Description
From his seat on the top of a high ridge, Gordon Wade looked into the bowl-shaped valley beneath him, with an expression of amazement on his sun-burned face. Pouring through a narrow opening in the environing hills, and immediately spreading fan-like over the grass of the valley, were sheep; hundreds, thousands of them. Even where he sat, a good quarter mile above them, the air was rank with the peculiar smell of the animals he detested, and their ceaseless "Ba-a-a, ba-a-a, ba-a-a," sounded like the roar of surf on a distant coast. Driven frantic by the appetizing smell of the sweet bunch-grass, the like of which they had not seen in months, the sheep poured through the gap like a torrent of dirty, yellow water; urged on from the rear and sides by barking dogs and shouting herders. ... Description:
A new simple method is proposed for identifying sources of small scale pollution, by determining the tissue concentrations of pollutants in terrestrial mosses. The method is based on spatial characterization of the processes that generate accumulation of pollutants in these organisms. The steps involved in implementing and applying the method are: (i) obtaining data on pollutants in moss samples collected at least at 35 pairs of sampling sites (SS) separated by 1km distance; (ii) study of the distribution of the differences in concentration between the pairs of SS, eliminating pairs affected by foci that generate small scale processes; (iii) characterization of the resulting normal distributions and calculation, for different levels of significance, of the probability of a value lying within these distributions, and (iv) application of the calculated quantiles to data corresponding to the differences in concentrations between pairs of SS in the vicinities of foci of small scale pollution, to determine which elements can be considered as pollutants. Given the small number of data required once the distribution of the differences has been established, the method is an inexpensive, efficient way of establishing the probability that a pollutant is being emitted from a particular source. The method is very useful for verifying the results of pollution inventories, evaluating new technologies and improving the design of regional networks for biomonitoring of air quality with terrestrial mosses. ... Description:
We have studied the electrochemistry of eight flavonoids belonging to four flavonoid sub-classes: flavone, flavonol, flavanol and anthocyanidin using pencil graphite electrodes (PGEs). We present the electrochemistry of delphinidin, cyanidin and catechin gallate for the first time. The use of electrochemical methods in connection with PGE in the study of flavonoids and their interaction with copper ions has not been previously reported. Our results compare favorably with previously reported studies, which utilised glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs) for the detection of flavonoids. We calibrated all eight flavonoids (r^2>0.9620), six of them at at least two peak potentials. The relative standard deviation (R.S.D.) for peak potential was <5.0% and peak height was <10.0%; thus, this method could be used to characterise and quantify flavonoid-containing extracts (purified). An inverse relationship between oxidation potential and metal-chelation was established. Oxidation potential was influenced by the location of OH groups relative to each other, the oxidation state of the pyranose ring, the presence of a C-4-oxo group and the total number of OH groups. Further, we showed that the steric configuration of the compound influenced the reactivity. The order of flavonoid reactivity to Cu(II) ions was myricertin=catechin gallate>quercetin>delphinidin=baicalein>cyanidin>catechin. These findings may be significant in neuroscience and metal toxicological studies, in which copper ions have been reported to play a crucial role in initiating and/or promoting the progression of diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. ... Product Description
The purpose of MODERN METAL DETECTORS is to assist you in learning to be more successful when using your metal detector. I hope it will aid you in mastering your detector, rather than letting it master you. It is an all-encompassing, comprehensive reference and "how-to" guide to metal detectors. It is adaptable to your needs, whether you are just beginning, experienced, amateur, or professional. It is not intended to replace, but to supplement the other classic Ram Publishing Company metal detector books with their invaluable, up-to-date, "how-to" material. It traces metal detector history and development from start to present. It presents complete information about all land and underwater metal detector types, how they work, their characteristics, capabilities, applications and field uses. This book is filled with "how-to" instructions and explains every phase of metal detecting: electronic theory, metal detector design, electromagnetic fields, search matrix, metals and minerals, detection characteristics of metals, and many more subjects. Every person who has used a metal detector, or even thought someday he would, has questions about metal detectors. Often-heard questions are: "What is Discrimination and Ground Elimination?"; "What is a target classifier meter?"; "Can I go deeper if I use a larger search coil?"; and "Do I need a BFO, VLF, or Pulse Induction metal detector to find coins, caches and gold?" I have endeavored to present basic, all-encompassing, up-to-date detector knowledge, so that regardless of the problems and questions you have, you will be able to find your own answers. You'll be able to bench-test your detector and take it into the field for testing to learn what you want to know. If you should have questions, you'll have the knowledge you need to ask the right questions and to know if you get the right answers. A Glossary is included to help you build your vocabulary with a storehouse of metal detector terminology. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The advanced handbook on modern metal detectors
I know this is for the 1985 first edition of the book. This is a great book It even covers things about Pulse induction scanning for metal detectors. The newest way to fly low.

There are questions with the answers at the end of each chapter. The answers are in the back of the book so if you must cheat go ahead. Or better yet reread the chapter and do it right.

Charles also has answers to real life questions as well like how are these detector made. Is the fit and finish good and such. That is something that many folks don't ask when they start looking at a detector but they should it is their money.

If the detector looks like junk it is. Still Is any detector worth $5000. I can afford one but If I buy a detector for $1000 and it does the same as or is as good and see as much Then why would I spend $5000?

I am buying both and boy the big dollar one better be worth it or I will send it back to them in pieces. Is that nice to do? I think so

5-0 out of 5 stars California Treasure.
This atlas has a good grasp the legends and actual sites where teasure may be found. Of course, if X marked the spot the treasures would have been found long ago, if they indeed exist. The location of the ghost towns is what I purchased the atlas for and it seems complete. This atas is a must for artifacts seekers like myself. T Bird.

5-0 out of 5 stars AN INVALUABLE RESOURCE.
Being an enthusiastic amateur treasure hunter myself, in years past, I diligently read each and every volume of Mr. Terry's exhaustively researched works. Although I found some the information erroneous or far from exact - for instance many locations cited as "ghost towns" are FAR from being one - there are so many intriguing stories of legends, factual evidence & stories of past recoveries that any true TH'r will be enthralled. Treasure hunting is supposedly America's fastest growing hobby: it's uniquely enjoyable for the adventure, historical aspects & healthy outdoor recreation. And when you really find something decent...Boy Howdy!! Not as easy as it sounds, though. To be a professional TH'r, one has to have patience, applying oneself with the perseverance of a detective: because that's what it takes to be successful. Exhaustive research is the key: going where people gathered long ago (old picnic grounds & abandoned schoolyards, for instance) will be beneficial for coin shooters who are after more than modern coins....for me, finding modern coins was a complete waste of time & energy. Going for the gold? Go where it is KNOWN to be & be creative: the better your equipment - i.e. a decent detector which finds gold & common sense makes this a most fascinating hobby. For some, it's a life's career. Good luck!!

4-0 out of 5 stars NotAll Treasure Is In The Sea
Found this to be a very interesting paperback book for anyone dreaming of treasure hunting/finds. But, I wish it was updated. I'm sure there are more interesting things about Florida. Not all of Fla. treasure finds are in the sea as this book notes. Worth reading.Open anywhere and begin reading. ... Read more
