THE BEST MEDICAL SCHOOL BOOK THAT I USED.
THIS BOOK MADE ME THE BEST STUDENT IN MY CLASS, TRUST ME IT WAS NOT ME IT WAS THANKS TO THIS BOOK. ITS USER-FRIENDLY FORMAT MAKES BE VERY MOTIVATED AND FOCUS.ITS CONCISE STYLE HELP TO COVER A LOT OF FIELDS IN FEW HOURS AND TRUST ME STILL YEARS LATER YOU REMEMBER WHAT YOU LEARNED. I used this book primarily during my microbiology course. I did reference it while I studied for Step 1 also. The end of this book that contains "Summary of Medically Important Bacteria/Virus/Fungi/Parasites" is a great resource to have. Get this one early and read it, then reference it as needed for your board prep.

Medical Microbiology and Immunology
Warren Levinson is a genius!This book is absolutely brilliant.I would recommend it to almost anybody who doesn't like dumbed down books like Lippincott.Levinson's Microbiology is clear and comprehensive.It tells you exactly what to focus on, and cuts out extraneous details.The immunology section is even better!You'll love this book.The questions are even fantastic in helping you remember all the bugs, and the quick summary reviews at the end make this book worth your while.One recommendation for the next edition is to add more clinically relative laboratory perspectives.Make tables and keep reviewing until the day boards comes.

Excellent book for boards
This book is an excellent source for the boards.It reviews important topics that are important to know and gives you an advantage.I liked the format of the book and it made studying painless and more enjoyable.I also used the following:

Great for Micro courses, not so much for USMLE
Great book. I am only giving it four stars because it's not in board-style question format. For that, just get the Pre-Test Microbiology book and you're covered in all directions. This book is more helpful for testing your knowledge of the characteristics of the microbes, for example when being tested in a Microbiology course. Can't see myself using this for the USMLE (although there are some helpful mnemonics and memory devices/tips highlighted throughout with a USMLE icon) but so far has been helpful in my Micro course (medical school). If I can just remember to use it!

Never arrived!
A month after the book was due to arrive, I still have not received it.I have contacted the seller twice without any response.I do not recommend buying from this seller.

Great, concise book
I hate memorizing details.This book is perfect for students like myself who don't enjoy endlessly memorizing random details.It has a great question prompt (with the answer across the way on the page) format to facilitate learning and memorization.Very high yield.

Microbiology Recall
I am horrible at reviews, so bear with me. This is a great book.I used it in school and I now use it at work in my microbiology lab.I work in clinical microbiology and I have access to many micro books in my lab.This book in particular is used so often by my co-workers and myself that it never gets dusty.The organisms are easy to find with the contents and the index.The descriptions for each are excellent containing a colony morphology as well as gram stain description, patient symptoms and possible infections that the microbe could cause.It is easy to read and contains some color photographs of the organism itself, or of the patient symptoms for those who may not be familiar to them.There are some main biochemicals included in the organism description which help with identification.It is basically a review of things, not complete, but it has all of the main things to help jump start your brain and start diagnosis or to just help a student to remember certain facts or characteristics about microbes.I highly recommend this book to students studying microbiology as well as those involved in clinical microbiology. ... Rapid fire with a couple bad apples
The authors of this book seemed a bit sidetracked when composing the 1000+ questions contained within its 200+ pgs--perhaps they should have narrowed their scope and focused more on quality than quantity; that is, creating more CORRECT answers and valuable answer discussions, neither of which are present very consistently in this volume.

There are many good questions which help to solidify key concepts in micro/immuno/virology/mycology/parisitology, all in seperate sections, however there are also numerous misleading and/or bad questions which aid in discoloring the rest of this volume. A question may ask, for instance, which of these is "most correct"; the answer will be wrong, and the explanation will consist of a scant exlpanation of why three of the other answer choices were correct. Confusing and misleading.

Otherwise it is a valuable resource, and if you know enough to know which questions are bad questions, it can be reviewed very quickly and to valuable effect.

Excellent Reference Manual
Among the most continually referenced books in my office.
Although both editions were intended as lab study material, Benson's compact spiral edition is a simple yet comprehensive microbiology reference manual for the practicing physician.

MEMORY-REFRESHING LAB MANUAL
Just like its 'complete version' sibling, the price of this 'short version' "Microbiological Applications" lab manual is on the high side. However, the book did a good job in sieving and replicating, (as concise as possible), the contents of its 'big-brother'.
This manual dealt with every practical issue relating to undergraduate microbiology course. It is a compact body of practical information, which also paid enough tribute to the theoretical portion of its subject. Almost every information undergraduates would need in microbiology lab is present in it.
Still, I would add that the structure of this abridged book makes it more suitable for revisions. Anybody who wants an indepth coverage of microbiological techniques should simply add eight dollars to the listed price of this book and (instead) buy the 'complete version'. Go for this 'short version' only if you need a memory refresher.
