Decent Beginners' Material
This book is definitely written with the beginner in mind as it is full of great tips and suggestions for the amateur. Although the plates in this book are crudely drawn and the provided plans are too small to be of any great use, I would suggest this book for anyone interested in starting out in the wooden ship modeling hobby.

Why use "Ship Model Building"
This book is hopelessly out of date.For a model builder with even a little experience it purchase would be a waste of time and money.For example: It suggests that fitting such as winches and deck houses be mademade of balsa wood.No current modeler would agree.Construction examplesalmost insure that you will be making a toy instead of a scale model.It'sonly redeeming feature is that there are a number of good line drawingsthat provide nomenclature and positioning.Unfortunately the 1961 reprintdid nothing to update the book except for the addition of new plans whichare too reduced in size to be of much use and are readily availableelsewhere. ... A classic bible of the model airplane building & flying, with full of affection for the hobby..
I own this book since I was a child in 1970's. Very lovely illustrations and nice sentences, well thought construction. Written in late 1960's and some contents may seem out-dated(ex; covering method and material has drastically changed), but still, the essence of joy for the hobby which has been put in the book has never diminished, and you can feel the author's deep affection toward young novice who is interested in this hobby, through out the pages. ... Architects Code Resource
This reference book is a must have for any architect who needs further clarification on the international building code. The author presents the examples graphically which makes the code easier to interpret. I highly recommend the handbook to junior designers and graduates who have recently entered the architectural and construction industry as well as the seasoned professional since building codes are a dynamic document. Fortunately, I have had the opportunity to work with Steve on several code interpretations in California. Again, I recommend this book to anyone who is preparing drawings for building permit or just wants to educate themselves better about life, safety and welfare issues in construction.

So far, so good ...is much easier to retain and understand than trying to read the International Building Code Book by itself.

This book is a real help for almost any architect whether they are at the beginning of their career or seasoned professionals looking for a refresher.

A nice mixture of wood and brass
I like the way the author uses wood and brass to build his models. These early cars really look nice when done up this way. If you are interested in building models such as these, the author gives you a some good tips and some unique ways of getting the results shown in the beautiful photographs. He also tells you what tools you will need .There are some errors in the drawings as stated by a previous reviewer but the author gives his email and most errors can be worked around using the pictures and doing a little research on the real car.

Don't Bother!
The only reason I gave this book the 2nd star is because of the photos. Many details left out, Materials list doesn't correspond to detail specifics. Many inaccurate dimensions. Assembly instructions leave a lot to be desired. All this applies to what is supposedly the easiest model to construct.
Add this to the differences between the actual car and the model design and you'll quickly realized you've wasted your money ... Read more

Muscle Car Builders Bible
If you are into building scale model muscle cars, American Iron from the mid-late 1960's through the early 1970's then this book is for you.Detailed text and photos of build-ups of many iconic Muscle Cars including the Yenko Camaro, Oldsmobile 442 W-30, 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo SS454, and many others.Also includes are tips and techniques that are useful for any scale model builder.Although some of the parts information is dated, the skills, ideas, and techniques taught in the book are timeless. There is also an excellent section giving a quick reference on engine wiring for the major American V8's of the time.That reference alone is almost worth the price of the book.
If you only could purchase one primer on serious muscle car modeling, this should be your choice.

George Bojaciuk is a walking, talking source of info. on both 1:1 and scale model muscle cars.

He can show you how to build an exact replica of just about any muscle car and he specializes in Baldwin/Motions.

Over Priced Book
Gave it four stars because the book was a good guide. Book was published at the price of $15.95 and has 88 pages. Even though it is out of print, it is definitely not worth the asking prices of between $70.00 and $175.00.

Great book
All aspects of making dinosaur models are described in this book.Construction, painting and making display bases.Vinyl, resin and plastic kits are discussed, along with converting and detailing them.

Well written and informative text is accompanied by many photos and an occasional drawing.Basics are covered first, more advanced topics are introduced later.This makes the book interesting to intermediate or even advanced modeler, while being accessible to a beginner.

The only thing that would make the book better would be color photographs.Gallery section in the middle of the book is in fact printed in color, but majority of photos are B&W - that's the only reason why I gave the book 4 stars.My copy was printed 10 years ago, but it stood very well to passage of time.Highly recommended.

an indispensable tool for dinosaur model painters
This book was just what I was looking for. I had purchased a bunch of dinosaur models at a garage sale and was eager to paint them - but I had no clue where to begin.

The pages lead you through how to prepare a model for painting, as well as steps to really make your paint job stand out. It even includes tips for diorama-making and model modifications.

It seems odd that a book was made specifically for dinosaur models, but there you have it. If you ever need help painting a dinosaur or making your own model, this is your best resource!

This book is excellent.Clearly Rimell and Rimell have an excellent background in paleontology, or know a thing or two.As one can tell from the cover picture, the models in this book are exceptional, and the authors do a superb job explaining modeling and sculpture techniques and basic dinosaur anatomy.I have attempted making models using the methods described and although I am not a natural artist, I was satisfied with the final product.Again, this book is excellent. ... A Bit of Design Philosophy and Some Examples
I did not quite get what I was looking for in this book. Since I am looking for a place to build a BIG layout but have not yet found it, I thought I would learn about ways to start building now in a series of small blocks that could be transported to the new site when the time comes. There is some of that but that is not the basis of the book. Instead, it talks about an approach to designing a layout.

This book talks about a design philosophy, about designing a layout built around specific design elements such as a yard, junction, city scene, industry or even a maritime scene. It examines how the real or "prototype" railroad operations can be selectively compressed to fit in a model space and how the rest of the layout can be designed around a few signature scenes.

Towards the end, there is some discussion of designing a layout as a series of "dominoes" but this is for grand planning and not for modular building in the sense of planning for a move.

The book was informative and worthwhile but what I will take from it is mostly background information.

Tony Koester continues to lead the way
Tony Koester continues to be THE most prominent driving force in Model Railroad Design today. He began where John Armstrong left off and continues to take the design phase of the hobby to new heights. "Building Blocks" is a concept that thousands of modelers have used for years, but until now, no one has ever compiled a true action plan for intergrating these ideas together to achieve a complete model.

Dissappointed ! Not the most ideal for an experienced modeler
The book is well presented but lot of the coverage is very ambiguous and situational to real railroading not focused onthe aspects of model railroading. I would have expected to see more coverage of layout building, tips and trick, experiences from fellow modelers, but none of that kind to suit my pallate. Rather dissappointed, I must say.

Enthusiastically recommended for serious model railroad connoisseurs

It is very nice to see a book about this subject because there are not to much examples for university aeronautics students like me to use. This book is based on a collection of author's lecture notes used for teaching structural equation modeling to Ph.D. candidates in the Paul Merage School of Business, University of California at Irvine, from 2003 to 2005.

During re-writing lecture notes for this book, the author made it clear to make this book a friendly and step-by-step model-building guide to anyone who plans to use structural equation modeling for high quality empirical research. In other words, this book is not written for people who just want to think about or to talk about structural equation modeling. The book is for these students and practioners who need to use structural equations to analyze some real datasets and to produce high quality research reports.

To avoid some of the widely spread confusion in social science empirical research fields, a RM4Es framework has been used to summarize all the main concepts and methods of structural equation modeling. To state briefly, RM4Es consists of (e1) equations for model representations, (e2) estimation methods for coefficients calculation, (e3) evaluation methods for model assessment, and (e4) explanation for results interpretations. Feedback from author's teaching and training has continuously confirmed that the RM4Es framework is indeed a very effective tool in helping students to gain a clear understanding of structural equation modeling.

Throughout the book, many real research examples have been used to demonstrate all the important structural equation modeling techniques presented in this book and to keep students updated of the most current applications. Book was just as advertized
The book was listed as "Very Gook" and it is.It appears that liquid was spilled along one corner of the book, but was cleaned up.It didn't cause is serious damage to the writing, diagrams, or photographs.

I would certainly purchase from this organization again.

car detailing from A to Z
This book is a little gem.

It includes a lot of information about car models detailing. The book starts from the needed tools, and includes concise but good description of the systems on a car (engine, electric,brakes, etc.).

Then it includes tips for detailing of the engine,exteriors, interiors, chassis, wheels, etc., together with photos of bothmodels in construction and finished ones.

Totally necessary for any modeler
Yes, this book is a must. It's clear concise and easy to comprehend. It shows many tricks in detail to better model making. A true reference and idea book, like all Pat Covert's books.
