Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Prime Minister of Mongolia (Mongolian: Монгол Улсын Ерөнхий Сайд, Mongol Ulsyn Yerönkhii Said) is the highest member of the Mongolian government's executive arm, and heads the Mongolian cabinet. The Prime Minister is appointed by Parliament, and can be removed by a vote of no confidence. The Prime Minister appoints the governors of the 21 aimags of Mongolia, as well as the governor of the capital, Ulaanbaatar. The office of Prime Minister was established in 1912, shortly after Mongolia first declared independence from the Manchu Empire. This was not recognised by many nations. By the time of Mongolia's second (and more generally recognised) declaration of independence in 1921, the office was controlled by a communist group known as the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party. ... Description:
This paper explores why post-reform decentralization in China has failed to bring about environmental sustainability, using a case study from Uxin banner in Inner Mongolia. The local government has promoted intensive grassland improvement in its political, economic, and environmental policies under the umbrella of ''ecological construction,'' a term used to describe the enhancement of vegetation cover on this arid terrain. The government's aggressive approach to ecological construction, however, is incongruent with the ecology of the Inner Mongolian drylands. Consequently, although beneficial to short-term economic growth, ''ecological construction'' has led to unintended grassland degradation, thus undermining environmental sustainability. ... Product Description
In the wake of the collapse of socialist governments around the world, and calls for democracy and the pressures of market forces, this collection of essays offers a view of economic change in Eastern Europe, Russia, Mongolia and China. Focusing primarily on the benefits of an evolutionary approach, the contributors present a theoretical paradigm which provides alternatives to the conventional thinking on transition and on institutional change in general, and consider whether this has a greater chance of succeeding than does "shock therapy". ... Product Description
How do prophets and their prophecies influence the processes of decision-making, concepts of authority and ideas about causality and time? How can we talk about prophets and prophecy in the Mongolian cultural region when prophetic forms and people seem so varied? This book brings together anthropologists, historians and religious specialists to focus on the role of prophets and the distributed language of prophecy in relation to these questions. Central Asia has a longstanding tradition of prophets who have either challenged or collaborated with political leaders, and due to new uncertainties about the future, current interest in prophetic announcements has recently re-surfaced. This volume explores the arenas in which prophets and their prophecies have influenced the processes of decision-making, concepts of authority and ideas about causality and time in the Mongolian cultural region. ... In The Military and Society in the Former Eastern Bloc, an assortment of regional specialists in military relations are gathered together to comment on the current state of the military in a number of Eastern bloc states, including: Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Mongolia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, the Czech Republic, and Bulgaria. Each chapter provides more than a simple status-report on military readiness in these states, focusing instead on the relationship between the military, politics, and society in these new and burgeoning democracies. Further, contributors evaluate and predict the future of the military in political developments in these regions. ... Read more
