From the author: Cet article etudie les effets d'une contamination environnementale sur la sante et la vie quotidienne, ainsi que sur les mecanismes de resistance des habitants de Tar Ponds (Sydney, Nouvelle-Ecosse). Ce site est considere comme Fun des sites les plus contamines au Canada (CBCL and conestoga rovers and associates (CRA) 1999 Phase 1 Site Assessment: Muggah Creek Watershed, Sydney, Nova Scotia) et contient plus de 700,000 tonnes de sediments contamines. Les inquietudes des residants concernant les risques pour leur sante, la valeur de l'immobilier et la rentabilite de l'economie locale ont ete renforcees par leur mefiance envers le gouvernement ainsi que le domaine des sciences. Ces apprehensions se sont affermies en raison du retard enregistre dans le processus decontamination. Face d cela, certains des habitants se sont engages dans diverses formes d'activisme, alors que d'autres ont plutot choisi de se maintenir informes tout en sollicitant des appuis au sein de leur reseau social. Ces resultats demontrent qu'il est necessaire de tenir compte du contexte local dans un processus de rehabilitation et de decontamination de sites.
