Extractions: Graduate Program in Elementary Science and Environmental Education Program Overview The Brooklyn College Graduate Program in Elementary Science and Environmental Education prepares pre-service and in-service elementary educators to be classroom teachers or school specialists with a specialization in science education. The Program fulfills the instructional areas required for the New York City license for elementary school teachers K-6, as well as those required for New York State Certification. Students enter the program in the fall and continue as a cohort through the four semesters of the core Masters Program, and will have constant opportunity for collegial and self reflection on the process of teaching and learning science. Students will learn and use the skills of research to generate new knowledge about science and the teaching and learning of science in the elementary school. All coursework is informed by the needs of a diverse school population, both culturally and linguistically. Professional Development of Teachers of Science

Extractions: FACULTY OF ENVIRONMENT AND INFORMATION SCIENCES Dean Prof. SUZUKI, Kunio, D. Sc. 1. Outline To control environmental risks, we must understand of the wide variety of problems that exist concerning the environment, advance education and research in these areas, and promote technological innovation. Moreover, people with practical management skills and know-how, people with an understanding of both 'environment' and 'information', which have a mutual and complementary relationship, and people who can develop and manage information media and information systems that take harmony between society and environment into consideration are becoming absolutely necessary. In order to help address these and other problems facing today's society, Yokohama National University established the Graduate School of Environment and Information Sciences (EIS) from the 2001-2002 academic year. Education and research at EIS is aimed at producing researchers and specialized practitioners with basic scientific literacy, specific knowledge and skills needed to address the various global environmental problems facing us today, and the insight to make the best use of state-of-the-art information systems. The Graduate School of Environment and Information Sciences (EIS) was founded at Yokohama National University at the start of the 21st Century. One of the major issues we face in this century is how to realize an innovative and progressive society with finite resources. EIS consists of four academic departments and three research divisions to direct graduate education and carry out research on a wide variety of topics concerning environment and information, including natural environments, artificial environments, information environments, and social environments. The five-year course of study at EIS is divided into two parts: an initial two-year course leading to a master's degree and a subsequent three-year course leading to a doctoral degree. Degrees (both Master and Doctor) are awarded in: Science, Engineering, Information, Environment Science, and Technology Management.
