Product Description
Setting the record straight once and for all, Genocide: How Your Doctor's Dietary Ignorance Will Kill You!!!! by Dr. James E. Carlson breaks the chains of ignorance when it comes to dieting and staying healthy. Concern for his patients led this medical doctor to unveil common misconceptions regarding carbohydrates, fat, proteins, sugars and cholesterol that are perpetrated and perpetuated by the medical community. Regrettably, with the advice of doctors millions of Americans are eating themselves into an early grave. Now, avoiding a priori reasoning, readers are able to draw their own conclusions on what lifestyle is best for them and how to initiate the most sensible diet possible. Take back your life-the fact is that low fat, low cholesterol diets are dangerous. With humor, wit and a good dose of common sense, this guide shows readers that a diet with daily sources of fat, cholesterol and protein is effective in treating disease. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Simply written and easy to digest for any level
Dr Carlson has written this so anyone can understand his book,It lays out simply what the deal is with nutrition. It is the kind of book I would write to pitch at those with a basic education because it is clear and uses plain and simple English to explain the problems with our food and why our doctors are woefully lacking in nutritional knowledge.

It is a good general book to start your journey of discovery into the wild and wonderful world of how our food is produced and how a western diet of cheap modern processed convenience foods can ruin your health.

It is not for the advanced reader but it forms a useful adjunct to help people who have not perhaps had a university education understand the basics behind what is going on.It is therefore written for the common man and is pitched to them as the target audience . I found it a very easy read which presented a concise distillation of what I had already gleaned from the internet and my book of biochemistry by Stryer.

It is a very good book in that it forms a primer, but it by no means has all the answers but it is a good instrument to challenge your doctor and make him re learn his biochemistry, and make him/her think, rather than just fall back on his usual patterns of diagnosis manual which he has been taught to follow blindly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
It is a truly fascinating book.

He is a good writer in that he lays the info out in a way that the reader can understand.

I'd recommend this book to anyone who thinks that they can't do anything about cholesterol.
Low-carb is the ONLY sane way to eat.

I'm giving it a 4 simply because I agree, he needed to work on the proof-reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolute must read if you have Diabetes or Heart Disease!
Dr. James ROCKS! Wow!I just read the book and learned so much. I have been low carb dieting for a while and I love it. I have beaten Type II Diabetes after being on meds and an Insulin pump. The doctor will not steer you wrong with this outstanding advice. I know from experience what happened in my life with the weight loss and now great health. I am 54, I just ran my first marathon and plan on another one. I feel like in 30 and I have my life back. Dr. Carlson's book tells my journey. Now I know what was going on inside of me all the time!!

Do NOT miss this read. It is fantastic!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Carlson Speaks Facts/Common Sense, Easy Read
This is a must read!Dr. Carlson has written this in simple, easy to understand terms. As you read it, you will be thinking to yourself, yes, that makes sense!Dr. Carlson has a biochemistry and cellular background, and can prove what he says is factual.

Unfortunately, all the decades of eating low fat, high carb, (sugar, sugar, sugar) has led to coronary artery disease. Now as a heart patient, I am following a low carb. lifestyle, staying away from sugar,(in all of its' forms!) as much as possible. My first blood test my Triglycerides dropped 50 points from my previous blood test, now at 135. This is an example of how "not" eating low fat, can reduce your important health numbers.

When I follow Dr. Carlson's recommendations of low carb, no sugar, I feel better and have no heart burn. Many do not correlate the carbs they eat with heartburn, but they are absolutely tied together.Reduce your carb intake and you will reduce, if not eliminate your heart burn.Every person I know who follows this positive way to eat has had the same results.

Pick up this eye opening book. The facts speak for themselves. You will be glad you did.

PS - Dr. Carlson has been my physician for 5 months. I am so grateful to have found him.I don't have to worry or try to convince my doctor anymore, that eating low carb is the way to go.Dr. Carlson already knows better!Anyone who is fortunate enough to live in this area, owes it to themselves, to schedule an office visit with Dr. Carlson. You will learn how we have been steered down the road, to ill health.FIRST - Buy this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Greatly In Need of Editing - but Great Message
Genocide, a book about eating healthy by avoiding sugar, has a subtitle of "how your doctor's dietary ignorance will kill you!!!!" That quadruple exclamation point gives you an indication of how this book will read.

The first thing to be aware of here is that this book did not go through much editing. Normally I am all in favor of self published books, but the process requires a solid team of "friends" who do the editing for you. It was really missing in this case. You have to be very patient to read through this, past the many errors, the multiple strings of !!!! and !?!? and SHOUTING LANGUAGE and back and forth commentary. It several instances this "technique" of writing makes the actual message very hard to understand.

Even more strange, he left justifies EVERYTHING in the book so the paragraphs all run together, and he has massive spacing between lines making the book much thicker than it needs to be. Does that make the information seem more weighty?

On to the message. Author James Carlson has been a doctor for many years and has always advised his people NOT to follow low carb diets - until he read an actual book about low carb diets and realized just how they work medically. Suddenly he understood that they were about removing sugar from your system, and he realized just how critical that was for his patients. Almost overnight he switched to a low carb diet himself and put all his patients on low carb diets - and saw amazing results.

He explains that cholesterol in the body RARELY comes from eating cholesterol. Most of the time it comes from eating sugar that the body then converts into cholesterol. In the same way, triglycerides don't come from eating fat. They come from eating sugars which get converted in the body. These are medical facts that most people aren't taught. Therefore, as they gobble up high-sugar diets with soda and cookies and ice cream, they are causing their own cholesterol problems and triglyceride problems. Their doctors then blame the issues on them eating meat and fat - so they cut back on those, and things only get worse.

James talks about why looking at "calories" in a food item can be meaningless. Literally, the biological measurement of a calorie is taking a food item (say a Big Mac), putting it into a beaker and lighting it on fire. The calories is simply how much heat (actual heat with a thermometer) that Big Mac causes. The problem of course is that a human body digests foods quite differently than a burning match! Just as one example, you can set fiber on fire. It burns quite nicely. However, when you EAT fiber, it goes in one end and out the other, sort of like a scrubby sponge to keep your system clean. It doesn't cause you to gain weight or anything. There are many other similar situations in the human body where the way we digest (or do not digest) something is vastly different than how a match would burn it up in a beaker.

James warns against the dangers of trans fats - something we should all know by now. He warns that the food pyramid with its emphasis on eating tons of grains is wrong. I agree with those. On the other hand, he bashes vegetarianism as being completely unhealthy, which I disagree with. Also, he claims stevia is a blend of hundreds of herbs. Actually, stevia is a green, leafy herb that grows in Central and South America. The official name of the plant is Stevia rebaudiana.

Still, there are only minor errors in a book chock full of solid medical history and explanation. One quote that every doctor should read is on ketones. He says, "I have heard some docs say that you can lose weight but there should never be any ketones in the urine. This is dietary ignorance at its finest. There is absolutely no way to lose fat without the creation of ketones, because ketones are the byproduct of fat digestion. If we are digesting and getting rid of fat, ketones will be created. End of story."

He has several sections dedicated to PCOS and pregnancy, explaining how many women he's helped by getting them to cut sugar from their diets. Many women who were infertile suddenly got pregnant once they reduced their sugar intake and began eating more healthily.

He had one patient with a blood sugar of over 400. In only a few weeks of cutting out sugar and focusing on low carb, his blood sugar was at 150. He has story after story with these results. He's helped people with GERD, and since overweight / obese size has been directly linked to cancer rates, he honestly feels this is saving lives every day.

Finally, for people living on a budget, look at this stat. $65.7 BILLION dollars a year are spent just on coronary artery bypass grafts and angioplasties. Another $22.9 BILLION dollars a year are spent on diabetes II care. We all pay those prices in our insurance premiums. The money you pay into taxes and health care premiums could be vastly reduced if we weren't all paying out those high costs for drug companies to fix people and pump drugs into them.Think of what our society could do with billions of dollars "free" and available for people to spend on other things! It is a sobering thought. One can only hope that more doctors - and food pyramid creators - read this information and start to actually understand it.

So to summarize, the message is great. The science provided to prove the message is great. It makes very clear even to a layperson why every human should be vastly reducing their sugar intake. My only wish is that the book go through a serious editing process, so that it becomes readable to many more people.

As a final note, author James Carlson is a Doctor of Osteopathy, which is "separate but equal" to a Medical Doctor. I had no idea there were two "types" of doctors in the US which were both equivalently licensed to practice medicine. It's very intriguing, and worth a read on Wikipedia. ... Read more

Product Description
Childhood obesity has reached crisis proportions. Over the past two decades, the number of overweight adolescents has tripled. This skyrocketing youth obesity figure is associated with increases in high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes, as well as higher obesity figures in the adult population. With the rate of obesity among children and teens skyrocketing, the health of an entire generation is at risk.

The first step in solving this health crisis is understanding it. In Underage & Overweight: America's Childhood Obesity Crisis—What Every Family Needs to Know, the first shattering look at this looming disaster, childhood obesity expert Frances Berg clearly lays out the causes of the current crisis. Underage & Overweight clearly lays out the causes of childhood obesity, its consequences, and its cures. It examines the issue from all sides—the classroom, the playground, the home entertainment center, the fast food counter, and the family dining table. It gives families, educators, health care workers, and policy makers the information they need to lead America's children to healthier and happier lives.

Underage & Overweight doesn't just explore the problem. It gives realistic guidance for conquering the problem of childhood obesity. Rather than prescribing aerobics and limiting portions, it offers a seven-point plan for raising healthy children that focuses on changing the way families think about food and physical activity. The tips it gives for guiding children to healthier lives are vital reading not only for parents and other caretakers, but also for teachers, school administrators, doctors, nurses, and health care workers—indeed, anyone concerned about our children and their future.

This heartfelt call for public awareness, understanding, and action is destined to become a landmark work in our country's war against childhood obesity. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars We can help our kids.Jill Fleming, RD of Thin Choices
This book addresses the issue of our overly-busy lives. Our children are as stressed and over-booked as we are.Their eating choices and patterns coupled with their lifestyle choices are the reason for obesity and eating disorders in children.I love that this book teaches us how to normalize eating and activity choices. Our children are not in touch with their internal hunger & satiety signals because of the overly processed foods we are letting them use to fuel their bodies. We parents have become too busy to schedule family dinners and bike rides with our kids.We are tossing food over the back seat to our kids as we are driving them to their next scheduled event. We have become afraid of unsafe communities and therefore are keeping our kids inside more often, where they are sitting in front of screens. The message in this book is that we need to stop placing all of the blame on the school lunches or fast food marketing and take control of the lifestyle choices we are helping our children make.We need to help our kids get back to normalized eating and playing just because it feels good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Observations on self
He learnt from experimenting on his own life that moderation is the key to a balanced diet. No given diet is absolutely harmful but diets with very high carbohydrate and fat content should be restricted to minimum. In the end the total amount of calories taken in should be carefully watched. If a high calorie meal is consumed then one should compensatorily restrict calories at other meals. In the end to protect future generations there needs to be some control both at the consumer level as well as availability.

5-0 out of 5 stars What Works and What Dosen't

I found 'Underage and Overweight' to be an excellent, relevant resource in the very critical issue of weight and children in our society. Of special note is the 'what works; what doesn't' section. Many of our students are still adolescents and have for most of their lives suffered from weight issues whether they are 'overweight' or not. Their well-meaning parents have often been part of the problem, trying to protect their child from becoming 'overweight,' which is so apparent in the scantily clad tropics of the Hawaiian Islands. Having a resource that gives such a broad overview of the issues is invaluable.

Product Description
SuperSized Kids shows how the mushrooming childhood obesity epidemic is destroying children's lives, draining family resources and pushing America dangerously close to a total health care collapse -- but also explains, step by step, how parents can work to avert the coming crisis by taking control of the weight challenges facing every member of their family. For the first time in American history, a new epidemic is killing our kids. In 1960, only 4 percent of American children were considered obese. That number has skyrocketed to 15 percent today and is almost triple that number in certain ethnic groups.Staggering; is the word the U.S. Surgeon General uses to describe the potential health care costs of childhood obesity. We are seeing Generation Y growing into Generation XL, he declares. The most common health problem facing U.S. children today is being overweight -- a condition robbing kids of both their quality and quantity of life. Medical problems that doctors once saw only in adults aged 50 or older are now striking children: heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, asthma, joint problems, arthritis. One in three children born in 2000 is expected to develop Type 2 diabetes, with the risk of blindness, loss of kidney function, and early death associated with it.This is the first generation in American history whose life expectancy may actually decrease.Something has to be done, and quickly. Fad diets and self-focused weight loss plans have proven ineffective. An overweight child cannot be effectively treated in isolation of the family insisted one recent study, complaining, surprisingly few intervention programs include multiple family membersSuperSized Kids is different. It shows parents how to cure the #1 family health crisis facing them today. It provides a step-by-step, medically sound and eminently doable lifestyle change program designed for the whole family. Lots of great information to help families get a handle on this epidemic that can ruin children's lives!Really like that the author(s) help people accept their children and themselves where they are at, teach them how to start there, take small steps and change little things that can make such a big impact on their health and well being.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely useful resource for my family
This book has been an extremely useful resource for my family. "Food for Thought" and "Recipe for Success" highlight boxes made this book very easy reading to skim through and eye-opening stories about real people made it a book I read from cover to cover. I refer to the corresponding web site regularly. It is a real asset for my family's use of the book's eight-week plan to reduce our weight.

3-0 out of 5 stars Plenty of facts and figures
Obesity in America is of epidemic proportions. This fact is easily affirmed with a quick look on a crowded street. Research shows not only are more people overweight or obese, the overweight keep piling on the pounds. Sadly, this phenomenon is not just an adult problem. In the book SuperSized Kids How To Rescue Your Child From The Obesity Threat, Walt Larimore, M.D., and Sherri Flynt explore the medical consequences of obesity in today's youth and offer their medical experiences, both personal and clinical, as they attempt to tackle this worldwide crisis. Obesity does not discriminate. In fact, as this book so adeptly explains, obesity affects all persons, individually and as a society. The negative health impact is globally catastrophic in addition to financially devastating. Larimore and Flynt, with the use of reality-based case in points, attempt to explain the ravages this disease presents while offering thier medical expertise to assure us this trend can be reversed. With simple medical terminology and easy to follow lifestyle changes, these dedicated professionals make eradicating childhood obesity seem like a real possibility. While exposing probable causes of obesity, the authors are quick to point out modern luxuries and conveniences as the likeliest culprits. Except, instead of assigning blame to society and culture alone, they lay the responsibility and recovery at the feet of the individual. If the purpose of this book is to explain what obesity is, what it does, and how to prevent it, that goal was certainly attained. Larimore and Flynt give the reader every reason to be concerned and become proactive with the weight, current and future health of our next generation.

SuperSized Kids How To Rescue Your Child From The Obesity Threat is one of many books tackling the issue of childhood obesity available today. Written to appeal to parents and caregivers, it sometimes uses over the top scare tactics to get the reader's attention. Although easy to read, the layout is a bit distracting with the pages having sidebars of Recipe For Success, Fifty Ways to SuperSize Your Kids, and/or Food For Thought. Using real life stories to emphasize the subject matter is usually a positive tool used by authors. This book employs too many. Parents who have children struggling with weight want answers and solutions, not necessarily a support group of unknowns. They already know they belong to an ever growing population and if they are reading this book, they are making strides to escape from it. From a clinical viewpoint, this books supplies plenty of facts and figures. What it doesn't do, is make them interesting. With so many other books available with the same subject matter, I suggest looking for another.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why can't anyone put things in order
Great book with lots of good information. I just wished they hadn't taken a cue from K. Trudeau and have everything all over the place in the book so you can't figure out exactly what to do and when.Confused on eating times vs exercise times as they don't jive. the do's and don'ts - 1 hour - 2 hours - 3 hours - 4.

5-0 out of 5 stars Way ahead of its time.
This book is instantly one of my favorites - and I have read a vast amount of health books / theories. This is an amazingly concise and simple summary of the research and biochemistry involved in obesity and weight problems.(Any complaints of the book being too technical or poorly written are remedied in this 3rd edition).

I am a busy acupuncturist and professional herbalist in Southern California and everyone of my patients who has followed the '5 rules' in this book have had positive results.Even myself - I actually only followed the first two rules and lost a pants size in one week and have kept off "the spare tire" for the past month with no problem and not even changing what I eat (I eat pretty healthily to begin with). My sweet cravings are way down and my energy is way up.I am now not only implementing these principles into my prescription for obesity / weight loss patients, but for all of my patients because they are patently sound scientific eating principles and lead to good health. As Sun-Si Miao said, "Before acupuncture and herbs, first correct diet and lifestyle".

Do not hesitate to get this book - it's truly revolutionary.

5-0 out of 5 stars I've found something I can live by...
I was so excited about the new information that is shared in this book.I have learned so much how my body works.I recommend this book for anyone who's been diagnosed with PCOS!!

I own two copies of it, one digital and one paper back. I gave one copy away, and just ordered another copy to replace it.I have elevated it to one of my canonized books that guide me as I discover my wholeness and wellbeing.I believe that everyone knows someone who should read this book and keep a copy for themselves.I think that covers everybody :-)

1-0 out of 5 stars Very poorly written
There's a reason there's no blurb on the back of this book saying how great it is.This is one of the most poorly written books I've ever read.I've slogged through a hundred pages trying to get what should take less than five pages to say. There's a reason that there are professional writers who consult with experts to put their thoughts into print.

Skip buying this book and read the reviews here, you'll learn all the pertinent information in much less time with a lot less frustration.

Product Description
Introduction to the electronic edition.

Nothing has changed since THE Diet Book was first published. To lose weight, limit food and drink to 60 carbohydrate grams a day or 1500 calories a day.Having written that in stone

One of the best years of my life was researching and writing THE Diet Book.I did the research at New York University’s Medical Library in New York City.

When the weather was good, I would take the cross-town bus to spend the entire day reading every diet book collected in New York Academy of Medicine’s extensive collection of cookbooks. (The first diet book ever written, William Banting’s Letter On Corpulence is included in this book.)

I wrote the book at a Catskill Mountain summer retreat where my then husband, two friends and I rented cabins.During the week, I had the solitude to write because the trio, who had great show-biz jobs in the city, arrived on Friday and left on Sunday.

The four of us took long walks past an abandoned blueberry farm (I even made a blueberry pie), went to the harness horse races and frequented a favorite, local restaurant. We also read a lot and played highly competitive poker games.

THE Diet Book is a history of diet, and in my research through the years, it became evident that – although there are hundreds of diets from which to choose (many diets have become popular) – once one looks at the eating plans, there are really only two diets – a low-calorie diet and a low-carbohydrate diet.

For example, the South Beach way is low-carbo andthe Beverly Hills way is low-calorie.(Judy Mazel who created the Beverly Hills Diet in 1981 died in 2007, at 63, of peripheral vascular disease.)

Does anyone remember the Scarsdale way?Low in calories and carbos, Dr. Herman Tarnower’s The Complete Scarsdale Medical Diet was published in 1979.The plan is Spartan: daily breakfast is ½ grapefruit, one slice of protein bread, no spread and coffee or tea.In March of 1980, Dr. Tarnower’s long-time lover, Jean Harris shot and killed him.The joke was Mrs. Harris killed him because the diet didn’t work. The diet promises a 20 pound-loss in 14 days of 700 calories a day.

From an article in the LA Times:“Here’s the latest diet advice, hot off the presses.Eat less fat.No, eat more protein. And if your ring finger is longer than your index finger, you might also want to avoid tomatoes.Don’t forget to write in your journal every morning. And clean out your refrigerator every week.”

An interesting diet is Dr. Barry Sears Zone Diet™.Covering all bases, it’s low in everything - protein, carbos and fat.“Enter the zone and you’ll achieve hormonal balance.”Dr. Sears delivers food to your door and sells “dietary” supplements.

No matter.Evident in THE Diet Book is my opinion that the low-carbohydrate diet is the way to go.60 carbohydrate grams a day is very comfortable. There is a list of carbohydrate amounts in food at the end of the book, but more comprehensive lists can be downloaded on-line or purchased in a book store. The calorie list is helpful for those who choose to go that route. ... Product Description
This revealing and useful book tells how emotions can cause bad eating habits and provides an effective antidote to radical crash diets. The author uses a cognitive-behavioral approach, and offers an encouraging alternative to current theories on the causes on overeating, such as psychopathology, addiction, or moral weakness. Emotional Eating shows how to identify individual patterns of emotional eating, and then tells readers how to respond to these patterns. Filled with tables charts, and self-assessment tests, Emotional Eating can help you learn self-control by identifying emotional triggers and developing alternative behaviors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
It is written on an intellectual level. Some of the other leading books in this area are watered-down to appeal to mass audiences. This book combines mass appeal with good, thoughtful counseling. It really makes you think about WHY you eat (or don't eat).It also acknowledges that a combination of physical and emotional factors might be at play in your life; so it is doesn't try to explain it all based on psychology. Abramson identitifies the following situations as ones that most commonly lead to binge eating: depression, anxiety, loneliness, boredom, and anger (expressed and unexpressed). These really resonated with me.He offers some techniques for dealing with these emotional states. As someone else said, this is a start, but will not solve all of your problems.I think it is a great addition to a treatment plan.

5-0 out of 5 stars I really liked this book-
I really liked this book-I gave it 5 stars.I don't have an eating disorder, but I have been a yo-yo dieter for more than 20 years. After reading Emotional Eating, I think I've figured out why I have had somesuccess dieting but then get frustrated and give up.I've tried a few ofthe ideas in the book, and so far, I like the results.I recommend ithighly to anyone who is concerned about their weight and might be usingfood to deal with their emotions.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to understanding eating disorders
This book serves as a good introduction to making to reader understand the basic mechanisms of common eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia and compulsive eating, although not much detail is given for each disorder.Itfocuses on how an emotional eater should identify her/his emotions beforedeciding to eat, and how to deal with the emotions. Although this bookalone would probably not be of great help for people who are seriouslystricken with eating disorders, it gives the reader an incentive to seekfurther help and to avoid self-blame and self-abuse. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars it's good and it's true
I just met Phil Larson, a fellow RN.I was impressed by his book.As a Bachelor-prepared RN with an additional Bachelor's degree in Biology, I was also impressed by his research and lifestyle.I was once an athlete, weighing less than 110 pounds at 5'3". Now 10 years after my collegiate tenure in volleyball i've found myself out of shape, with some fat in the mid-section, and worried about my cholesterol level.I'm now almost 150 pounds.I've read the book and i'm starting to change my health and lifestyle over!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars More than just a diet book
When I first met Phil Larson he was, as he says in the introduction to this wonderful book, more than a hundred pounds overweight and grossly out of shape.Today he's not only a lot healthier, he's a lot happier than he was back then. The Anti-Diet Prescription isn't just theoretical stuff - it's been tried and tested by a man who walks his talk (or in the case of Phil, perhaps I should say who runs his talk).Even if you don't have a weight problem and you're already in great shape, who could pass up the dozens of recipes like "Lieutenant Lean's Nut Blend," which takes only five minutes to prepare and is a great travel snack. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Answer
My son suddenly started gaining weight his freshman year of high school, and his health became so poor as a result that he had to stop sports. He was often in the nurse's office, but when I took him to the doctor, there was nothing wrong.Although I'm a single mother now, I always had a good dinner ready at five o'clock, but my son was often busy with a school project or off with his friends.I thought I was doing everything right. After listening to The Fat Kid's Diet I understood what was wrong. We started making changes and I saw immediate improvement.A couple of the tricks on the CD were so basic and obvious, I don't know how I missed them.My son is back at a healthy weight and his skin has cleared up.Forget regular diets.Listen to the advice on this CD and you'll be surprised at the great results.I sure was.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Granddaughter Is 30 Pounds Lighter!
I hesitated to buy this because (1) it's a live seminar and I do better with books, and (2) it has a couple of negative reviews. Why did I wait to listen to it?!My granddaughter is in 6th grade and was medically considered obese, with her brother not far behind. My daughter and her husband are thin, and tried different "diets" recommended through books, doctors, and even hypnotists.Nothing worked, because the underlying issues (and there were many) weren't being addressed.

My sister-in-law gave me her copy of The Fat Kid's Diet. It's simple.I'd heard all of the information included, at one time, in one way or another, but never put it all together. My daughter and son-in-law listened to the CD when I visited one weekend, and my daughter said "I can't do all of that."Her husband thankfully asked "All of what? It's little tweaks to everyday life and a lot easier than forcing Marcy to follow these insane diets."

Marcy is down thirty pounds, and much more focused, energetic, and happy. If you think it has to be difficult, if you think you need medical advice, or if you think just a diet book will work on your child's weight problem, you need The Fat Kid's Diet.It works.

1-0 out of 5 stars Clueless
I had heard great reviews about this book. They are all wrong. I was slightly offended by the name of the book, because it doesnt focus on the results, or goals, but rather she chooses to be offensive and snarky. She obvously is a "fat-ist" and has no idea of what it is like to BE fat. She tells you "Oh, Im perfect so be like me" Ive also read her reviews on other people's work. she is an evil woman who spits venom at everything that doesnt come from her. This has nothing to do with "refusing to take responsibiliy" Ive had poor eating habits my whole life and obviously I've passed them on. Plain and simple- Get trim Kids instead. Its very result-oriented and positive.I will never buy another book from this author, and would not ever have if i had read her reviews first. i would put this book in our yard sale, only i would dread the karmatic response of passing on this evil bit of tripe. it goes where it belongs- the trash. and before you say i just want sunshine blown up my a** -this is not true. i only choose to be positive in everything i do. Especially where kids are concerned.

5-0 out of 5 stars Right To The Point
My grandson was "chubby" -- a matter that had concerned me since he was very young. My daughter took Jake to doctors, and for martial arts classes, and otherwise tried in some ways to solve the problem, by the kid kept eating poorly. As I suspected, he needed a lifestyle change rather than a doctor visit or a sport.

In my opinion, The Fat Kid's Diet has gotten negative reviews because MOTHERS DO NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR CHILDREN'S OBESITY.The Fat Kid's Diet embarrasses them, so they post negative reviews. The speaker is not condescending; she is frank. So for those who believe she is "unpleasant," I'd like to say she is telling you something you do not want to hear -- that you need to get pro-active and make lifestyle changes in order to cure your child (and probably yourself) of obesity.

The Fat Kid's Diet seems so simple once you listen to it.It's basic, logical, and yes, disturbing. It's disturbing that so many mothers (and fathers) unknowingly create such poor eating habits in their children.

It's been about two months since Jake went on The Fat Kid's Diet, and he has dropped eleven pounds. He doesn't crave orange soda anymore, and his dinner is sane and on time.My daughter has even lost a few pounds (although she was slender) and says the whole family feels better.

If you can handle the truth about today's childhood obesity, get a copy of The Fat Kid's Diet.I contacted Amazon, and they said they're ordering more copies from the publisher. In the meantime, you can download the e-book from lulu dot com.

The best of luck to all.

Pam

5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was looking for!
First off, I didn't buy the CD.Instead, I bought the transcript.I do much better with things that are tangible and that I can read as opposed to listening.I liked the fact that it wasn't a thousand pages long.It was precise and to the point. Short, simple and sweet!

While my daughter isn't obese, she is overweight according to the charts. She's 5 and the doctor wants her to lose 5 pounds in 2 months. She is extremely active (swimming, gymnastics, dances constantly), but she does eat a lot and has developed some bad eating habits over the last two years. And we are to blame. We started out perfectly and she was normal weight the first 2.5 years of her life.We provided all her food - homemade, fresh and balanced those first 2.5 years.Over time, we became lax and gave in to sweets and not so good foods after she was introduced to it at her new daycare.I was embarrased that we were so strict and I listened to people who said, "oh, one candy bar won't hurt." or "one juice box isn't going to kill her."And when it goes on slowly, you don't notice it so much and think...okay, maybe that little piece of cake isn't so bad, etc.You don't see it creep on until it is too late.

So, we started our lifestyle change on Friday (4 days ago) immediately after her doctor appointment.I couldn't bear the thought of my daughter who turned 5 last week turning into an OBESE child/pre-teen/teenager/adult.Trust me, if we continued with what we were doing/allowing, she would be headed down that path. For a couple years I have thought she was gaining too much weight, but because she has always been tall for her age (currently 47.5" tall), everyone would tell me she looked normal weight wise or that she'd grow into it, etc.Although I knew otherwise deep down, I bought into it knowing damn well we were going to have an issue on our hands.I tried to close my eyes.So on Friday after our doctor appt., my husband and I made several changes...

1. No more dining at restaurants - this was our biggest downfall, we ate out probably 5 days a week if not more - pizza being at least once a week.
2. No more 2nd servings which meant telling her daycare not to provide 2nds b/c she gets 2nds over there at lunch
3. No more sweets (I bake cakes so until I open my own store front, I'm quitting baking so the icing and cake tops aren't around anymore).
4. No more fast food - while we didn't eat Fast Food a lot, we did go there from time to time (maybe once or twice a month)

There were other things that we committed to changing.Reading this transcript, just validates the changes we made. Most of the changes that the auther suggests are ones that we already changed...and others will be incorporated into this new lifestyle change that we are creating for our daughter and us.

If you have the slightest incling that your child is overweight or a desire to change your child's eating habits to instill a healthy eating lifestyle for rest of his/her life, you owe it to your children to read the transcript or listen to this CD.It is mostly common sense, but sometimes we lack the simpliest common sense and need someone to tell it us.And when it comes to dieting/eating healthy, I think we make it out to be much harder than it should be and we don't remember to apply common sense to this issue.I am looking forward to seeing the results in 2 months.5 pounds isn't a lot, but it's 5 pounds too many and an unhealthy lifestyle that could have spiriled out of control. Thanks for validating the choices we made and for giving us some other great changes that we can make. ... Product Description
Did you know you were designed by nature to live to be an average age of 100? It is a common fact that an animal lives to be five times his maturity age. A horse matures at four years and easily lives to be 20. A cow matures at two and one-half years and easily lives to be 12. A dog matures at one and one-half years and easily lives to be over eight. Man is an animal, but the average man in the United States who matures at 20 will die in his 70’s. That’s more than 20 years before his time. Short lives, senility, obesity, excessive disease, especially cancer and heart disease, are not a part of nature’s plan. Modern medicine is directed mainly at curing diseases―diseases man should never have in the first place! The author believes that obesity is too often a visible revelation of inward sickness and deterioration. If we could curtail the causes of deterioration and premature death, obesity would automatically diminish.Over seventy percent of all deaths in the United States are prematurely caused by heart disease and cancer. Diet is a major factor in many of these latest findings of the National Cancer Institute and the National Heart Association. There is a striking parallel in their suggested diets. It’s obvious that there are basic ground rules that all of us should follow. If we break these rules, we suffer the penalties. Our bodies demand a balance of nutritional foods to sustain healthful longevity and ideal weight control. You can control your weight, your health, and your destiny. You can change your eating habits for life and live longer. ... Read more
