Beulah Land. Paradise. Shangri-la. Oklahoma seemed to be all of these in the hostile, racist, post–Civil War South. Seeking both refuge and respect, pioneers such as Edward P. McCabe championed the idea of Oklahoma as an all-Black state. And all-Black towns proliferated there. Some sixty all-Black towns, along with Tulsa's Greenwood District, bear witness to the deep creativity and incredible human spirit of the people who built them. ... Read more

From the supplier: The election of Frank Lucas to the seat for Oklahoma's 6th congressional district illustrates how voters have begun to reject the traditional politician. The Lucas campaign strategy focused on his image as an Oklahoma rancher and portraying his opponent, Dan Webber, as a Washington insider. The successful portrayal of Webber as a Washington political operator made voters reject him in favor of Lucas.

From the supplier: The passage of some legislative amendments on Oklahoma's correctional system is considered as yet to be the most important criminal justice reform act. These amendments include the commencement of the truth-in-sentencing law, the expansion of community corrections, the elimination of early release programs and the allotment of additional budget for the construction of bigger jailhouses. While some critics express their resistance on such reform, supporters strongly believe that the move will greatly improve Oklahoma's judicial system.
