1-0 out of 5 stars review of hb kim review book
quality of book is poor and you should check his background. he didn't go to proper oriental medical school in korea and china. it's hard to understand it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate User Manual for Passing the Boards
HB Kim's book is a comprehensive atlas for TCM. A myriad of material is weaved into crystalline charts to help bring clarity to the essential texts that are on the Board lists.

The book is organized by 8 categories: Foundations, Diagnosis, Acupuncture, Herbs, Formulas, Western Medicine, CNT and Laws & Regulations.

I use this text almost every day; it was under my pillow when I studied for the boards and its a sharp tool for my practice and for teaching review classes.

Get this book at HBAcumedia's website, where it's more affordable and you can see sample pages, but it's worth every penny regardless.
It has my highest recommendation.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Smart Practitioners'Preferred Medical Textbook
BIOMEDICINE is an informative text written in an easy to understand style by an insightful former surgeon. When I want an encapsulation of Western medicine's take regarding a patient's health condition, this is the first book to which I turn. I have on occasion sent a grateful patient home with an excerpt from BIOMEDICINE because it so clearly describes their medical diagnosis in language anyone can comprehend. I've even recommended that my TCM alma mater consider adopting this textbook for their Western Medicine classes. This book has elevated my professional standard by allowing me to collaborate intelligently with MD's.Dr. Robinson knows how "both sides" think - he is uniquely qualified to write about truly integrated medicine.

I have no medical background or plans for a medical career, but I love
and value this book. I use it as a constant reference and am also reading
it in its entirety, as it is alive, real and straightforward.Dr. Robinson's personal
anecdotes from his vast experience add much to his explanations and make
the complicated world of medicine much easier to understand. He obviously
has taken great care in his presentation and put much thought into writing
this concise and well-organized textbook, one that I also believe can serve
as a lay person's general medical reference. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Importance of Preventive Health Care
There is no preventive health care in the United States ; there is only sick care. Dr Kim has stated simply and articulately how this lack in western medicine in general prevents an individual's ability to achieve maximum health, and therefore, maximum benefit and care for life. Dr Kim is not knocking western medicine, he is constructively criticizing a system he works in, and desires to improve. He makes it very clear that without western medicine, eastern medicine would not provide total care for the patient either. He states here that health is a daily concern that takes into consideration very personal and individualistic needs. Approaching not only the body, but the soul and the mind, Dr Kim reminds us that optimizing health cannot be quickly attained by a pill, a surgery, or anything that merely seeks to operate under a cause and effect dynamic. His pathos is endearing, practical, and sincere, as if he wrote his books directly to the reader at hand. He has provided an important introduction to eastern medicine and how to maintain your best achievable state of wellness ; Dr Kim has successfully demystified any stereotypes and misconceptions concerning eastern medicine, making it approachable and immediate to those apprehensive about, or simply unswayed to its claims. A remarkable book--and again, books, for he has written more than one, well, written one, writing another, translated this one--Dr Kim's services and ideas can only, hopefully, revolutionize health care and our approach.

Product Description
One of the transformations facing health care in the twenty-first century is the safe, effective, and appropriate integration of conventional, or biomedical, care with complementary and alternative medical (CAM) therapies, such as acupuncture, chiropractic, massage therapy, herbal medicine, and spiritual healing. In Healing at the Borderland of Medicine and Religion, Michael H. Cohen discusses the need for establishing rules and standards to facilitate appropriate integration of conventional and CAM therapies.

The kind of integrated health care many patients seek dwells in a borderland between the physical and the spiritual, between the quantifiable and the immeasurable, observes Cohen. But this kind of care fails to present clear rules for clinicians regarding which therapies to recommend, accept, or discourage, and how to discuss patient requests regarding inclusion of such therapies. Focusing on the social, intellectual, and spiritual dimensions of integrative care and grounding his analysis in the attendant legal, regulatory, and institutional changes, Cohen facilitates a multidisciplinary conversation about the shift to a more fluid, pluralistic health care environment. ... Product Description
What Is Medicine? Western and Eastern Approaches to Healing is the first comparative history of two millennia of Western and Chinese medicine from their beginnings in the centuries BCEthrough present advances in sciences like molecular biology and in Western adaptations of traditional Chinese medicine. In his revolutionary interpretation of the basic forces that undergird shifts in medical theory, Paul U. Unschuld relates the history of medicine in both Europe and China to changes in politics, economics, and other contextual factors. Drawing on his own extended research of Chinese primary sources as well as his and others' scholarship in European medical history, Unschuld argues against any claims of "truth" in former and current, Eastern and Western models of physiology and pathology. What Is Medicine? makes an eloquent and timely contribution to discussions on health care policies while illuminating the nature of cognitive dynamics in medicine, and it stimulates fresh debate on the essence and interpretation of reality in medicine's attempts to manage the human organism. ... Product Description
This is a study of the earliest extensive account of Chinese pulse diagnosis, or more accurately, the examination of mai. Dr Hsu focuses on a biography of Chunyu Yi, a doctor of the early Han, and presents the first complete translation into English of the Memoir in the Historical Records by Sima Qian (d. ca 86 BCE). This Memoir contains biographies of the physician, medical case histories and interviews, and constitutes a document of enormous importance to the history of medicine in China. The analysis covers the first ten medical cases and their rich vocabulary on touch, as used in Chinese pulse diagnosis. The patients treated were mostly nobility of the kingdom of Qi in Eastern China, who suffered from the indulgences of court life and were treated with early forms of decoction, fomentation, fumigation, acupuncture and moxibustion. To date there is no book on early China of its kind. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Macrobiotic Musings
"Macrobiotic Seminars" is a collection of articles by Michio Kushi from over thirty five years of Macrobiotic theory and practice. Topics include self-diagnosis, diet and nutrition, love and marriage, ki and kitchens. Especially interesting is the connection drawn between sugar and mental illness. I like the emphasis given to quality whole foods as a pivotal factor of good health.

These lectures are part of the Kushi Collection at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington,D.C. Kushi's work is included as a permanent collection documenting Macrobiotic influence on modern health and nutrition. This once alternative health movement seems to be going mainstream as people begin to realize that diet does,in fact, directly influence health and well being.

5-0 out of 5 stars we have been waiting for this
A lot of people give lip service to the idea of "integrative medicine" but few actually understand the term or practice it.Alon Marcus's book is truly exemplary.I have taken several classes with Dr. Marcus and his knowledge and clinical experience are vast. This is not a `cookbook' treatment manual. This is an incredible text which allows one to look at muscularskeletal dysfunction from many different angles and allows one to explore different treatment strategies from modalities.

If you really want to broaden your knowledge, challenge and sharpen your diagnostic skills, and increase your clinical toolbox tenfold explore this book.

Warning, this is not a layman's text.It is really dense and packed with material. It is not a book you will read straight through but continually refer back to as a reference and advisor and as a reminder of how much more there always is to learn. If you have been working in namely one discipline, (like Traditional Chinese Medicine) you will develop a whole new vocabulary, learning about what we do in Western terms and to Western practitioners a lot of the `poetry' of chinese medicine will be demystified. This book definitely encourages the practitioner to step outside of his/her box.

everything from Tung-style acupuncture to orthotics, prolotherapy to Japanese acupuncture, pharmacology to herbalism, trigger point needling to osteopathic assessment.

there is not another book like this.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have text for anyone treating neuromuscular pain
This is a comprehensive yet clinically accessible text. It welcomes readers with differing backgrounds to come aboard and comfortably absorb new vistas presented without ever taking them too far from their own medical perspectives. It covers Oriental Medicine in its entirety (acupuncture and related techniques, herbal medicine, and body work), Cyriax style Orthopaedic medicine, Osteopathic manual medicine, electrotheraputics, rehabilitation and orthosis therapy. It builds upon fundamental concepts as well as summarizes and encapsulates extensive information. In short this is both a comprehensive text and a clinical manual that every reader regardless of training would find informative

5-0 out of 5 stars A Comprehensive and Balanced Text
From book Foreward

This book provides healthcare practitioners a balanced text that comprehensively covers the topic of musculoskeletal medicine. In this text East meets west, orthodox meets alternative and somatic meets visceral in a clinically useful text. The book is much more than a how-to-manual by offering insights built upon foundational concepts. It provides a vehicle to transport medical understanding beyond common boundaries and to introduce key concepts about the impact of the musculoskeletal system in diagnosis and treatment in a user-friendly fashion. Clinicians will appreciate the even-handed overview of several healthcare systems and immense clinical utility of the text. While the text draws upon an eclectic range of ideas, it does so while remaining true to Chinese, osteopathic, and orthopaedic Medicine principles.
In Short, with this text Alon Marcus has made a major contribution to the healthcare field. He has deftly blended many of the best concepts and approaches offered by oriental, orthopaedic, and osteopathic medical practitioners into a vision of understanding the whole patient through the clues provided. The author doesn't promise nor force a single "integrative musculoskeletal medicine" approach upon us; instead, he delivers an excellent foundation to improve how we choose to practice. I this manner I have become a better clinician and a better member of the healthcare community, What more can one ask from a text?
