Product Description
Due to the growing demand for dental implant related ridge augmentation procedures as well as tumor- and trauma-related reconstruction, expertise in bone graft harvesting remains crucial. Because of anatomical and morphologic variations between individuals, harvesting of autogenous bone can pose a significant challenge for surgeons. This authoritative atlas presents a detailed step-by-step approach to mastering the applied surgical techniques required for harvesting bone from intraoral and extraoral sites for use in both major and minor reconstructive procedures. Drawing on their many years of clinical experience, the authors guide readers to a thorough understanding of each donor site by addressing the following topics in systematic fashion: indications and contraindications; anatomy; patient positioning; surgical approach; dressings and drains; postoperative care and instructions; complications and their management; and modifications for children. Featuring an abundance of surgical photos and custom-drawn illustrations, this highly practical surgical atlas serves equally well as a clinical guide for all surgeons, a quick refresher of a specific procedure, and a detailed student reference. It will be of keen interest to the broad category of surgeons and specialists who harvest bone for ridge augmentations as well as jaw and facial defects, including oral and maxillofacial surgeons, periodontists, and ENT and plastic surgeons, as well as the surgically inclined general dentist. ... Product Description
Numerous diseases in the areas of orthopaedics, rheumatology, and radiology can only be completely diagnosed if the corresponding conditions of the skin and mucous membranes are included in the diagnostic work-up (skin-bone). Conversely, dermatologic assessment of skin symptoms in isolation may lead to serious delays and errors in the diagnosis and treatment of associated changes in the musculoskeletal system. This monograph gives an interdisciplinary synopsis, from a dermatologic and clinical radiologic perspective, of 85 disease entities which in practice are likley to present. For orientation purposes the main dermatologic and radiologic symptoms are presented in table form at the beginning of the book. ... Read more

The classic text on the Mayo Clinic's experience with bone tumors is now in its updated Sixth Edition. Dahlin's Bone Tumors presents a succinct, profusely illustrated summary of the largest single collection of well-diagnosed bone tumors anywhere in the world. The book contains a strong blend of archival material and new cases, and incorporates the latest knowledge about the grading and staging of these tumors. Benign and malignant neoplasms are discussed on the basis of differentiation.

In the Sixth Edition, all gross anatomy photographs and photomicrographs are in full color—approximately 400 new full-color illustrations throughout the book. More attention is given to computed tomographic and magnetic resonance images. The book includes new information from recent clinicopathologic studies about radiographic and histologic variations in different tumor types, including chondroblastoma, osteoblastoma, and parosteal osteosarcoma. The section on neoplasm simulators has been expanded to include some conditions, such as neuropathic joint, that may present as a neoplasm.

Product Description
The cemented hip prosthesis is one of the most frequent operations worldwide in the orthopaedic field. In these operations bone cements are used to fix artificial joints filling the free space between bone and prostheses. As an elastic zone the cement is able to buffer the forces affecting the bone. Though chemically all cements on the market are basing on the same main substance (methyl methacrylate = MMA) they differ in their physical and chemical properties. The rising number of bone cements on the market makes it difficult for the surgeon to make an appropriate choice for good clinical long-term results. The present book is a complete, detailed comparative presentation of all relevant physical and chemical properties of the bone cements on the market. ... Read more

Bone Pathology is the second edition of the book, A Compendium of Skeletal Pathology that published 10 years ago. Similar to the prior edition, this book complements standard pathology texts and blends new but relatively established information on the molecular biology of the bone. Serving as a bench-side companion to the surgical pathologist, this new edition reflects new advances in our understanding of the molecular biology of bone. New chapters on soft-tissue sarcomas and soft-tissue tumors have been added as well as several additional chapters such as Soft-tissue pathology and Biomechanics. The volume is written by experts who are established in the field of musculoskeletal diseases. Bone Pathology is a combined effort from authors of different specialties including surgeons, pathologists, radiologists and basic scientists all of whom have in common an interest in bone diseases. It will be of great value to surgical pathology residents as well as practicing pathologists, skeletal radiologists, orthopedic surgeons and medical students.

Product Description
Although bone allografts were first utilized by McEwen in orthopaedic surgery in 1881, progress since then has been sporadic. With the growth of tissue banks and the greater availability of safe and sterile bone grafts, the pace has now quickened; in 2004, more than one million such grafts were used in the USA alone. However, the practice generally remained a “cottage industry” well into the latter part of the 20th century. This volume provides an international expert evaluaton of the current use of bone, bone substitutes and related allografts, and describes up-to-date practices and clinical results in particular procedures. It will provide a ready reference for readers wishing to carry out an initial survey of the subject. ... Read more

This technique was devised in Pamplona more than 20 years ago in 1984. However it took a long time for anything to be actually published (J Bone Joint Surg, 1994) because none believed it was really possible to preserve the joint of the patient. As time has gone on, the technique has aroused an outstanding amount of interest among doctors dealing with bone tumours. Nowadays there are people starting to employ the technique in several countries, and there are many doctors wanting to learn about it. With considerable experience now in the application of this technique, and great interest from many professionals from all over the world, the time is right for a comprehensive rundown of these ideas which will help many children who would otherwise almost certainly be amputated.

60. The Comprehensive Classification of Fractures of Long Bones

Editorial Review

Product Description
This book presents a comprehensive classification of fractures of all long bones. The fundamental principle of this classification is the division of all fractures of a bone segment into three types and the further subdivision into three groups and their subgroups. The groups are arranged in an ascending order of severity according to the morphologic complexitites of the fractures, the difficulties inherent in their treatment, and the prognosis. Thus once a surgeon classifies a fracture, he will have determined its severity and will have a guide to its best possible treatment. This system of classification is based on the AO classification in use since 1979 and on over 150,000 documented cases on file in the AO Documentation Center in Berne. The diagnosis of a fracture is expressed by combining the numerical code of its location with the alpha- numeric code of its morphological characteristics. This alphanumeric code has been designed to facilitate computer storage and retrieval; it will greatly assist computerized documentation. ... Read more
