5-0 out of 5 stars Healing Intelligence - Structure and Function
Tajinder Deoora is a remarkable healer, osteopathic practitioner, naturopath and teacher. Her book reflects all these diverse aspects of her being. It is readable, clear, highly informative and offers a balanced, insightful and inspiring insight in to cranial osteopathy - it is a highly intelligent exploration of cranial osteopathy and its roots. Cranial osteopathy is a discipline at the cutting edge of its own profession (osteopathy) so the reader can imagine what it is in the eyes of some of the more conventional healing modalities. Tajinder Deoora has taken this on, never losing sight of the rational, common sense of structure and function but at the same time having the courage, integrity and sensitivity to take the reader into the more subtle and challenging aspects of healing through this modality in a highly credible and professional manner. Editorial Review

Product Description
Visceral Osteopathy: The Peritoneal Organs is concerned with the application of osteopathic concepts to the abdominal viscera, specifically the organs of the gastrointestinal tract. It lays out a comprehensive manual approach to these viscera based on physiological research and extensive clinical experience. The visceral paradigm developed in this book is centered on the mechanical expression of the biological forces within the organs themselves. In this paradigm, the most important aspect of the viscera of the gut is their intrinsic, autonomous regulation. The focus is therefore on the inner mechanical architecture and power centers of the viscera. Visceral Osteopathy offers a comprehensive and clinically sound system of diagnosis and treatment of the digestive organs, and firmly establishes visceral manipulation in the context of contemporary physiological research. The diagnostic and therapeutic approaches of visceral osteopathy are described in detail and are accompanied by hundreds of photographs and drawings that clearly illustrate each of the techniques, including an original bi-manual form of palpation for all the viscera. A separate chapter is devoted to each of the peritoneal organs. Other features of the book: - Provides concise, up-to-date applied anatomy. - Includes extensive and well-illustrated descriptions of embryology and its significance in manipulation of the viscera. - Discusses all major concepts in visceral manipulation and compares different schools of thought. - Develops the idea of movement as compensation and discusses the benefit of different types of visceral movement. - Draws an important and useful distinction between intravisceral treatment and indirectly working on the viscera via the fasciae. - Offers practical tools to differentiate movements according to normal or compensatory activity. - Looks at the inherent stability of viscera in relation to posture. - Outlines how visceral problems influence the musculoskeletal and craniosacral systems. - Provides a glossary of all important terms used in this and other books on visceral manipulation, and an extensive bibliography. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive textbook on cranial work
Liem's book is a comprehensive book.He exposes readers to both biomechanical and biodynamic paradigms. There are many practical palapation exercises. In particular he translates biodynamic concepts like the Fluid Body in very tangible ways.Of interest is a huge section on the sutures, section highlighting each cranial bone with its embryological development. You get the feel that Liem has learned as much as possible about the entire breadth of Osteopathy in the Cranial Field. His text is grounded in the work of the elders of OCF: Still, Sutherland, the Beckers, Fryman, Fulford, Wales, Jealous, Upledger, and many others.Lots of illustrations, lots of handholds, and technique photos, lots of theory, lots of anatomy.Comprehensive and worthwhile to anyone who is a student of Primary Respiration. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Unimpressed
I'm afraid I was unimpressed by the content of this book. I believe all three modalities have much to offer and are poorly represented here.

Having a strong interest in all three modalities, I was initially very excited about what this text might have to offer. I was disappointed. I think very highly of the concept, but do not believe that this text has been successful in its pursuit.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for any practioner dealing with musculoskeletal disor
This text is a must for any practioner who wants to learn about musculoskeletal medicine. The text integrates the diagnostic strength of Cyriax'Orthopaedic Medicine, the energy of Chinese Medicine, the ligamentdiagnostics of Hackett, Ongley and Dorman, Travell's Myofascial Pain, thebiochemistry of nutrition, and the spinal diagnostics and philosophy ofOsteopathy. This is a massive work that encompasses andcoalesces the manyand seemingly disparate fields that any sophisticated practitioner needs toknow. The information is useful both for understanding multiple approaches, and as "how to" book for performing many of the recommendedprocedures. It is not a book that will languish shelf but will be well wornby continued use. Bravo and well done!

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent integration of Western and Oriental orthopedics
Dr. Marcus synthesizes three systems of discipline- energetic, medical and functional in a very coherent manner. It is an extremely difficult task to integrate Western orthopedic medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, butI believe that Dr. Marcus has done a beautiful Job. This book is the firstof his kind and is an important addition to Western literature.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good brief intro to Osteopathy
If your cramming for a little D.O. knowledge (such as an interview for D.O. school), this is a good use of your time. At less than 100 pages it briefly covers topics such as:

The Rule of the Artery (importance of good circulation)
Interdependence of structure and function
Osteopathic lesion vs. allopathic lesion
Primary Respiratory Mechanism (PRM)

Manipulation techniques that are touched on include articulation, pumping, traction, inhibition and fascial unwinding. You won't be an expert but least you will be able to drop a few terms and sound intelligent. ... Read more

The chronic affections uncured, and by drugs uncurable, demonstrate to a certainty the unreliability of their action as curative agencies. The presumption that drugs act in some mysterious manner, and have a special affinity for diseased structure, finding their way to pathological parts, unite with a particular form of diseased structure, wrest its progress, hurl it from its moorings, and leave the parts cleansed, purified, swept and garnished, healthy, is an untenable and untrue premise to assume, the results failing to justify. To assume that anybody needs anything but the normal elements to maintain health is to distrust perfection in creation, and to regard foreign substances as curable or in any respect compatible when diseased is to assume a theoretical improbability, for the restoration of the normal constituents of the body restores the balance of power caused by deficiency of elements. Restore the elements, and health is re-established. The freedom of the circulation of all the fluids of the body restores vitality. That any one of ordinary intelligence should presume to assert that humanity is a machine, or that any one should compare a man to a machine, is surely not to be considered tenable nor applicable, yet he is composed of all the elements that go to make up all the machinery in ... ...
