5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
An easy to read, no nonsense book about Panic Disorder.Written in clear laymans' terms, double spaced text and short chapters, this book moves along quickly and is filled with information that is easily absorbed. With good advice and a keen understanding of Panic Disorder, the author writes about treating real people and shares their experiences. The treatment advice and coping mechanisms are right on. One of the best I've read on the subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book I've Ever Read on This Subject
I feel like I've spent my whole life in search of a book like this.It is by far the best book on panic disorder I have ever read.Reading this book felt like coming home.I have read many, many books on the subject of panic disorder, but this was the ONLY book I ever truly got anything out of.Definitely Five Plus Stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Insight on many Neglected Issues
Dr. Shipko's book not only provides a great overview of panic disorder, but also addresses topics that are often neglected on the subject. Psychological, psychiatric and medical aspects of this frequently misunderstood condition are clearly addressed. Even as an educated patient, I found myself learning new things beyond the DSM-IV manual. Topics include necessary medical tests, GERD and IBS issues, medication and psychotherapy issues, as well as heredity, pregnancy, birth, children, relationship and marriage issues. I believe that anyone with panic disorder could greatly benefit from this insightful book.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book will change your life if you have panic disorder
Several years ago I was fortunate to discover the website of the wonderful doctor/author of this book.I've lived with this incredibly misunderstood disorder all my life and never knew what I had. Why?Because the vast majority of doctors don't understand the full spectrum of panic disorder and attribute so much of the physical problems that go along with it as separate entities.Dr. Shipko is the first doctor that I know of who has put it all together for those of us who have panic disorder. He has defined it and made sense of it.His book will literally change your life if you have panic disorder. The information is so comprehensive and so clearly explained.Knowledge IS power and you will be given the tools to take charge of this disorder and make your way safely through the maze of today's medications and the doctors who try to treat panic disorder. While some physicians listen to their patients and respect their opinions, many doctors have sketchy information about panic disorder and how best to treat it.I can honestly say that the author of this book probably saved my sanity and, I am certain, spared me from the hell of much of today's medications.I have exhausted library books on panic disorder and skimmed books in bookstores and nowhere have I found a single source as concise, clear, helpful, and valuable as this book. ... Book Description
Part cultural history, part sociological critique, and part literary performance, Panic Diaries explores the technological and social construction of individual and collective panic. Jackie Orr looks at instances of panic and its “cures” in the twentieth-century United States: from the mass hysteria following the 1938 radio broadcast of H. G. Wells’s War of the Worlds to an individual woman swallowing a pill to control the “panic disorder” officially recognized by the American Psychiatric Association in 1980. Against a backdrop of Cold War anxieties over atomic attack, Orr highlights the entanglements of knowledge and power in efforts to reconceive panic and its prevention as problems in communication and information feedback. Throughout, she reveals the shifting techniques of power and social engineering underlying the ways that scientific and social scientific discourses—including crowd psychology, Cold War cybernetics, and contemporary psychiatry—have rendered panic an object of technoscientific management.

Orr, who has experienced panic attacks herself, kept a diary of her participation as a research subject in clinical trials for the Upjohn Company’s anti-anxiety drug Xanax. This “panic diary” grounds her study and suggests the complexity of her desire to track the diffusion and regulation of panic in U.S. society. Orr’s historical research, theoretical reflections, and biographical narrative combine in this remarkable and compelling genealogy, which documents the manipulation of panic by the media, the social sciences and psychiatry, the U.S. military and government, and transnational drug companies. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book on Panic I Own
I have been plagued with panic attacks for 5 years. Despite medication and therapy, the anxiety of having another panic attack remains with me 24/7.
This book was recommended to me by my therapist, and it is truly excellent. Do not plan to breeze through it in a few evenings, though. It has questions to answer, things to ponder, and requires more involvement than "quick fix" books that you've probably already tried. You must truly commit to going through the book and doing the exercises - and making that commitment can be difficult.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book Ever for Anxiety and Panic Disorders
It is working very well for me so far.I just recently got the book, (probably a week ago) and it has helped me significantly.I am now not experiencing any more panic attacks and I feel very good.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good empirically-based treatment workbook
This is a sound approach to treating panic and anxiety. The exercises are based on the clinical literature and the author's experience as a therapist. The book is in workbook format with large pages and very long lines of text across the page, which makes reading it difficult for some clients. In addition, the client has to be fairly well educated to benefit from the text.It would not be very useful to those who are not very good readers or those who have little formal education (e.g., high school dropouts with little interest in reading).Nonetheless, the ideas are useful for therapists who can incorporate them into their work without using the text per se.

5-0 out of 5 stars TRULY AN ACTIVE GUIDE IN OVERCOMING PANIC
I have read many books and seen many therapist over the last 8 years, and this book proves to place the reader in an active role in overcoming their anxiety. Not that other books were not helpful, but this one made the other books about anxiety all come together to reinforce what I was doing. The best advice is to have someone help you to be accountable and do what the book says because only practice will help you change.

5-0 out of 5 stars Real, workable solutions.
I've read many, many books on treating panic disorder, but this is the ONLY book that helped me overcome my panic disorder.I only wish I had read it years ago.Panic pretty much ... my life down a black hole -- I was so agoraphobic that for two years I rarely left my bedroom, even to go down the hall to the kitchen.A cognitive-behavioral therapist gave me a copy of this book and took me step by step thru it.It took 8 months of hard, scary work but today I can go anywhere, with or without anyone, and do anything, for as long as I want, whenever I want --not a medication in sight and not a twinge of inapropriate panic. Two years ago I couldn't even contemplate walking to the end of my driveway. I just can't recommend this book highly enough. It was the light at the end of my tunnel. ... Read more

Book Description
In this engaging memoir, Robert Rand tells the tale of how through dancing he helped free himself from the grip of panic disorder. Rand was a serious, shy, and intense scholar who had achieved national recognition in a career in writing and radio production. In the midst of his success, panic attacks overwhelmed him. For more than two years, he suffered their debilitating effects; the disease flattened his spirits and stripped him of self-confidence. Then he discovered social dancing, and in particular Cajun and zydeco dance and music. Dancing became a cathartic and liberating endeavor, helping him beat back his panic disorder to discover a world of passion and romance and to gain control of his life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Far More than it seems
This would be a fascinating book for someone interested in overcoming panic disorder. But it is actually so much more. If that phrase were not in the title, it would more accurately reflect the book -- a wonderful entertaining and engaging story about one man's life.
I quickly found myself very interested in this author; being drawn in to care about what was happening to him and how he was dealing with it. It's all about how he dealt with his panic disorder, but the telling is far more entertaining than it sounds. He leaves nothing out either -- the funny stuff, the heart breaks, the embarrassment, the girls and the sex. Often, I couldn't put the book down until I had finished a chapter.
Rand's descriptive writing is awesome -- rich and flavorful and entertaining. It shows that even a calm, studious, serious fellow can have a very lively and engaging life.
In addition, I found his dealing with the racial issues very frank and refreshing. (By way of explanation, Rand took up Zydeco dancing, which is from the Black Cajun culture of Louisiana and he spent considerable time there in the backcountry.)
Overall, it was an excellent read. I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful Stories to Enlighten and Encourage
If you suffer from any panic or anxiety disorder, often times you feel very alone in your plight. Many times, you wonder if you'll ever 'see' your old self again. It's a scary place to be, because I've been there.

In these true stories from folks spanning the spectrum of life, you quickly discover that all the feelings associated with anxiety and panic have been felt by countless others. A critical element to this book are the commentaries after each story by Dr. Paul Foxman. He treats each person's story on an individual basis, offering insight to the root of the disorder, and the very clear hope for overcoming it.

In each of the contributing author's stories, I am certain anyone suffering from panic or anxiety- perhaps both, will find comfort in knowing there's someone out there who made it through a very dark, lonely place to the bright side of living a full and enriching life.

This book is not intimidating with technical/medical jargon- rather, it's a book that's easily digested and leaves its mark by teaching someone suffering the power of hope and healing they hold within themselves. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars An engaging and motivating set of success stories
Compiled and edited by Jenna Glatzner (Editor-in-Chief of Absolute Write - a website for aspiring writers), and supported with commentaries by Paul Foxman (Director of the Center for Anxiety Disorders in Burlington, Vermont), Conquering Panic and Anxiety Disorders: Success Stories, Strategies, And Other Good News is an impressive collection of thirty-one true and inspiring stories of men and women who have confronted and overcome panic, agoraphobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress, and more. An engaging and motivating set of success stories blazing a positive series of examples filled with hope for a better present and future, Conquering Panic and Anxiety Disorders is especially recommended reading for anyone struggling to cope with their own emotional stresses and predilections.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Lived It
Paul Foxman, Ph.D. and Director of the Center for Anxiety Disorders in Vermont, offers an introduction in which he introduces himself as one who has suffered from anxiety and offers commentaries at the end of each essay. He says "These stories are full of hope and promise for anxiety recovery. May they fulfill their mission to spread the word and inspire many others to conquer their anxieties."

Each chapter is a story and is shown on the Content's page. In addition, Glatzer has organized the topics addressed to make disorders, therapies and feelings very easy to find.

The chapters average about 5 pages each but some are just a couple of pages and a few are 7 or 8 pages in length. The essays are presented as written by the authors so it was not Glatzer's intention to edit them down or "tweak" them.

Glatzer's hope is that people realize they are not alone while reading these 31 essays describing very personal situations and feelings. The authors have opened themselves up to the world. You will find a couple of professional writers, you will read stories by people who just like to write, and others who perhaps never intended to see their story in print.

I found that more often than not most of the authors used some of Foxman's approaches even if they didn't know they were. I like Foxman's commentaries a lot. I like the fact that not only does he explain in a professional way what often times the authors do not do because they are telling their story, but he also talks about how the various conditions came to be (perhaps multiple stresses). He also talks about physical symptoms, which are an important part of this book for people who are seeking help or seeking to understand if they need help.

The book is listed under psychology/self-help on the cover and I would imagine it being used in classrooms. Rarely will a student or an onlooker have a look into what panic and anxiety is like from a first-hand perspective with no clinical jargon or going back to one's childhood to find out the answers to why it happened. Some authors do attempt to figure out the whys, but for many, the whys are much less important than the "what can I do and who will help me" questions.

How do I know this? I am an author in this book. I am not reviewing it to sell it, however. My bottom line is that thisis a book of hope and of wanting not only to be heard but also to have others get some relief from their suffering. I wish I had been handed it 20 years ago.5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational
This book is written by real people with real problems and real cures.
It should be an inspiration to anyone with panic disorder. Go but it. Now!

5-0 out of 5 stars 32 New Friends
At the end of this book, Jenna Glatzer says she hopes the reader will feel like she has made 32 new friends, and that's exactly how I feel. The stories in this book were so inspirational, and I could relate with so many of them!In each of the stories, the writer tells about what their anxiety disorder is like and how they cured it, and then the psychologist gives an explanation about the methods the writer used.I was happy to find out that many of them didn't use medication to get better, because that's what scares me!I don't want to be on medication for the rest of my life.A lot of the people in this book got better through therapy or self-help tapes or their own relaxation methods.I thought I was alone in a lot of my feelings, but now I know I'm not.If you have an anxiety disorder, this book will make you feel like there is hope.I can't wait to be a conqueror, too! ... Book Description
Living with Panic Disorder is a collection of poignant short stories written by panic disorder sufferers throughout the country. The pieces describe, often in shocking detail, the tormented lives of people living day to day with this condition. Panic disorder is a devastating but highly treatable condition that affects one out of every ten people. The illness is so pervasive that many people go through life in hiding, completely isolated for fear of shame and ridicule. The stories in this anthology will help normalize panic disorder to the masses and begin the process of dispelling the myth that only mentally unstable people suffer from this condition. My hope is that this book will also help the many who are still suffering alone to reach out and get treatment. Reading about one person's experience would not be powerful enough. I needed an anthology of pained voices from all walks of life to relate gritty, descriptive accounts of their struggles in their own words. The following stories were written by courageous individuals whose lives were forever changed by the power of panic disorder. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars So you have Panic Disorder ....
... then this is the book for you.Reaching across every social, psychological and emotional strata imaginable, this collection of essays takes us into the hearts and homes of the 'typical' panic disorder sufferer - of which of course there are none. Each author tells his or her own story in his or her own words, touching such important aspects as when and why the disorder struck, how deeply it affected their lives, how they came to make the tough decisions (such as meds or no meds, therapy or no therapy) that let them reclaim their lives.

I especially enjoyed finding my own story in the most unlikely places, of finding, even after 9 years of relative anxiety-free living, the validation that yes, this WAS real, no, I was NOT making it up, and that the choices I made in my own healing were pertinent and right for me.

This is also a must-read for the partners of people with Panic Disorder. You know, a little 'light' read for those 2am visits to the ER.(Humor - a PD household 'must-have'.)Truthfully, this book will help everyone involved understand and be more fully present for their loved one as they navigate this insidious labyrinth known as Panic Disorder.

I only wish it had been written 10 years ago ....

Book Description
Do you toss and turn at night with a knot in your stomach, worrying about your job, your family, work, your health, or relationships? Do you suffer from crippling shyness, obsessive doubts, or feelings of insecurity? Are you plagued by fears, phobias, or panic attacks?

What you may not realize is that these fears are almost never based on reality. Anxiety is one of the world’s oldest cons. When you’re anxious, you’re actually fooling yourself. You are telling yourself things that simply aren’t true. See if you can recognize yourself in any of these distortions:

• All-or-Nothing Thinking: “My mind will go blank when I give my presentation at work, and everyone will think I’m an idiot.”

• Fortune Telling: “I just know I’ll freeze up and blow it when I take my test.”

• Mind Reading: “Everyone at this party can see how nervous I am.”

• Magnification: “Flying is so dangerous. I think this plane is going to crash!”

• Should Statements: “I shouldn’t be so anxious and insecure. Other people don’t feel this way.”

• Emotional Reasoning: “I feel like I’m on the verge of cracking up!”

• Self-Blame: “What’s wrong with me? I’m such a loser!”

• Mental Filter: “Why can’t I get anything done? My life seems like one long procrastination.”

Now imagine what it be like to live a life that’s free of worries and self-doubt; to go to sleep at night feeling peaceful and relaxed; to overcome your shyness and have fun with other people; to give dynamic presentations without worrying yourself sick ahead of time; to enjoy greater creativity, productivity and self-confidence.

Does that sound impossible? The truth is you can defeat your fears. In When Panic Attacks, Dr. Burns takes you by the hand and shows you how to overcome every conceivable kind of anxiety. In fact, you will learn how to use more than forty simple, effective techniques, and the moment you put the lie to the distorted thoughts that plague you, your fears will immediately disappear. Dr. Burns also shares the latest research on the drugs commonly prescribed for anxiety and depression and explains why they may sometimes do more harm than good.

This is not pop psychology but proven, fast-acting techniques that have been shown to be more effective than medications. When Panic Attacks is an indispensable handbook for anyone who’s worried sick and sick of worrying. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped me beyond words!
Having suffered from panic attacks for many years, I was finally fed up.I searched the library and choose this book. It is hard to face the fact you suffer from panic attacks when everything on the outside appears so wonderful.I could not hear or look at the words "panic attack" with out feeling anxiety. This book saved my life without question.I did the exercises and the mood charts.I have checked the book out 3 more times.I don't know why I have not bought it because it is inexpensive ($7.00).It is good to keep for reference.
In another review there was a comment on the successful people in the book. That was a huge help to me because even successful people suffer from anxiety disorders.Would you want to hear that you suffer from a disorder that only unsuccessful, depressed people suffer from?I don't think so.If you want freedom from a panic attacks, you must pick up this book.I wish I could contact Dr. Burns myself to let him know that he changed my life.

5-0 out of 5 stars A life saving book
As someone who struggled with panic attacks for over 25 years, I have read a lot of books about anxiety. I now plan to get rid of all of the others! I read Dr. Burns' Feeling Good at my lowest point last year and it was a lifeline for me. That book focuses more on depression, and while some of the information in it applied to anxiety, I kept wishing he would write a book specifically on anxiety. This book has advice and exercises for every type of anxiety. Whether you have job performance anxiety, social anxiety, fear of riding in elevators or having blood drawn, the tools you need to overcome your fears are in here.

The key is--and Dr. Burns reinforces this point--you have to do the exercises in order to feel better. This means actually writing your answers on paper. It also means, in many cases, facing your fears. His methods combine exposure therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. His words are warm and humorous, and you will feel supported as you break down barriers you may have built up for years.

Dr. Burns has improved my life immeasurably. I, and all of my loved ones who have had to suffer along with me for so many years, are grateful! Buy this book and try the exercises.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wasn't all that good
Whith such good reviews and reputation, I expected this book to really do something for me in the midst of my depression.
It didn't.
All patients that appear on the book are these wonderful, super achievers, close to perfection human beings that seem to have a down moment or a not so big anxiety problem or clearly can't see or appreciate how lucky they are. Most of them have an almost perfect life with wonderfull marriages, four great kids, supportive families, great carrers, gifted minds, 17 cute exboyfriends) I'm depressed 'cause I don't any of all that. Ain't got the super carrer, or a super fun group of 20 best friends to support me, or a great husband (my boyfriend left me! - that's why I'm depressed in the first place!) or any prospect of having one.
If I could look around me and see I had the family, the job, the hobby, the social life, the money, 2 PhDs, a TV Show, boy, I wouldn't need the book!
I haven't finished the book. I'm doing the exercises and being very disciplined and I will get to the end, but so far, it's just not doing anything for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding book not just for FEELING BETTER, but GETTING BETTER!
Dr. Burns incorporates the last 25 years of research and clinical developments since writing the best-seller FEELING GOOD (strongly recommended as well.) He has written a book which markedly refines and elaborates on FEELING GOOD, rendering the Cognitive Therapy approach found in FEELING GOOD even more effective for quick and long-term relief from distressing emotional conditions, including depression, anxiety, anger, and low-self esteem.

In case you don't know, the book FEELING GOOD has been clinically proven to relieve major depression JUST FROM READING IT and following its instructions. I am confident that a clinical trial on WHEN PANIC ATTACKS would yield similar results for individuals suffering from anxiety disorders. The newbook is very readable and far more versatile, and addresses some of the implicit gaps left from the former book.

WHEN PANIC ATTACKS easily stands on its own, and doesn't just address panic attacks, but rather every conceivable type of anxiety, including chronic worrying, phobias, agoraphobia, shyness, public speaking anxiety, writer's block, procrastination, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Body Dysmorphic Disorder. As far as I am concerned, Dr. Burns should win a Nobel Prize for what he has accomplished here. Beginning with the "Daily Mood Log" --a sophisticated yet elegantly simple worksheet for documenting and combating one's emotional pain-- he has developed a veritable "technology" for overcoming even the most disabling of human emotions.

Why do we suffer? We suffer because we hold onto some core self-defeating beliefs (SDB's) that leave us rather vulnerable to painful mood swings. Accordingly, he identifies 23 common SDB's.Many of these SDB's (such as Achievement Addiction, Approval Addiction, Fear of Rejection, Conflict Phobia, and Emotophobia) are far more widespread than even the common cold! All of our emotional suffering can be traced back to the SDB's that are always there, lurking somewhat hidden beneath our suffering, until we take the courageous and pro-active step to identify and revise them. He then provides 40 ways to "untwist" your thinking, divided into 15 types of methods. These types of techniques include Uncovering Techniques, Compassion-Based Techniques, Truth-Based Techniques, Semantic Techniques, Logic-Based, Quantitative Techniques, Humor-Based Techniques, Role-Playing Techniques, Spiritual Techniques, Motivational Techniques, Anti-Procrastination Techniques, Classical, Cognitive, and Interpersonal Exposure Techniques, and last but not least, the Hidden Emotion Model.

He additionally shows you how to select the techniques that will work best for YOU, and the whole trial-and-error process is easily recorded onto another handy-dandy worksheet!By encouraging you to "fail as fast as you can" (a brilliant concept in its own right!), he clearly demonstrates how anyone who is serious about their mental health and overall well-being can overcome even deep-seated emotional problems, and thereby attain robustself-esteem. He even provides specific and simple methods for "relapse prevention," because, as he states, EVERYONE relapses! Surely there's a BIG difference between FEELING better and GETTING better.

Because Thoreau was correct when he said, "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation," I think it would be a tragedy to limit this book to those with mental health diagnoses. In fact, I cannot think of a single individual who would not be significantly helped by the information contained in this book.********** 10 Stars on a scale of 5!

5-0 out of 5 stars Anxious? Panic-stricken? Agoraphobic? Help is on the way!!
There may not be anything new in this work, re: cognitive distortions, but this is still the gold-standard resource for those of us who suffer from this insidious malady know as Panic Disorder.

Dr. Burns book is not an easy read, meaning it does not offer quick, feel-good answers like so many pop-psych./pseudo-psych. books do. His work is written in a way that heavy involvement of the reader/patient is necessary in order to modify the maladaptive thinking and information processing that plagues people of our ilk.

The excercises are tedious and numerous to be sure. But then again, there are no easy answers for combatting panic.

This book is highly recommended by me because it has literally changed my life. Relief from suffering was quicker than what years of therapy was supposed to do for me. Like I said, there may not be anything "new," but to the average person who is not steeped in the literature the way a professional clinician would be, this makes no difference.

Dr. Burns has performed a valuable public health service by writing this book. Get it for yourself, or for anyone you know who may be suffering from this dreadful condition. It will change your/their life...for good and for the better. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Knowledge is power
I have to admit that I haven't even finished the book yet, but I fell compelled to write anyway.I am on page 43 of 159 (not counting glossary, appendix and index) but I have already had an epiphany, of sorts. Part, andmaybe most, of what is so distressing about panic disorder is notunderstanding it.We know it's happening, but we don't know why or how. Wefeel alone, isolated, hopeless, even crazy, and very, very afraid. Everyonehas heard the saying "we fear that which we do not understand". In the case of panic disorder this, I'm sure, is half the problem. Thisbook is not a warm-fuzzy book.It is not overloaded with case histories(though there are some). What it is is a very clear explanation of whatpanic disorder is and the myriad factors that come into play. I firmlybelieve that one of the best things a person with the disorder can do asself-help is to become educated about it. This book is an EXCELLENT placeto start. What a relief to know that I'm not crazy, and there may, in fact,be a perfectly legitimate explanation for why I'm predisposed to this. Thisbook won't fix your problems. But, it will give you a starting point onyour road to remission, and maybe even complete recovery. What have you gotto lose? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A way to support family and friends
Having a close family member recently diagnosed with Panic Anxiety Disorder, I found the book extremely useful in both understanding the illness and knowing how to support this person. The author provides easy-to-understand details about the illness and solid ways of supporting loved-ones.Now, I feel like I can talk to my family member and no longer have to side-step the discussion.A must-read for anyone who has loved ones with this condition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Panic and Anxiety Disorder: 121 Tips, Real-life Advice, Reso
Having personal experience with an anxiety disorder, I found Linda's book to have practical, reassuring information that I have been searching for for a long time. No one can really understand an anxiety disorder unless they have first-hand knowledge of it. The author speaks from her heart. Many of the mental-health professionals I have spoken to do not have this level of insight.

4-0 out of 5 stars A valuable resource
This book is a valuable addition to the others on the subject. Written in a direct and compassionate voice, it provides great insight and assistance to anyone connected to this disorder. I myself do not suffer from it; however, I'm close to a number of people who do. This book is a tremendous help to those of us who must learn to cope with a loved one who has a panic/anxiety disorder. And it provides an excellent tool to begin safely discussing the topic with that loved one. Lastly, I've had the privilege to meet the author on a couple occasions and talk about the issue -- she is truly knowledgeable, sensitive, and passionate about it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, basic stuff that works.
I'd heard about Linda's upcoming tips book on Panic and Anxiety Disorder, but wasn't really interested in reading it, mainly because it was a "tips" book; I've seen those booklets in the check-out line, and always considered them vague and rather gimmicky. So, when I first picked up "Panic and Anxiety Disorder, 121 Tips, Real-life Advice, Resources & More", not only was I surprised by its book-like appearance, I was also drawn to its calm, down-to-earth approach to self-help.Yes, there are numbered tips, but as I read, I realized this wasn't implicitly for someone coping with anxiety disorders; Linda has written to everybody. Her tips, while pinpointing individual aspects of anxiety, actually address the very simple, basic, moment-by-moment steps to follow in order to successfully survive just about any stressful inner conflict. From digging in the earth to truly relearning the art of breathing, Linda's guidance is straightforward and simultaneously profound. Not leaving any stone unturned, Linda has dedicated an entire chapter to folks who've found themselves in the challenging role of support, and included numerous sources of additional literature and information.

Linda Manassee Buell has written this book with the compassion and personal landscape of someone who's lived in the cave of fear, and who's triumphantly emerged into the sunshine. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you are committed to curing yourself get this workbook...
Hi.
I've suffered on and off from acute generalized anxiety and panic attacks for the last 7 years.

After 4 weeks of following this workbook I am now feeling better than I have for quite some time and am making definite confident inroads into a freeing myself from this debilitating condition.

Let me first point out that this is NOT a "magic pill" (I've searched years for such and they don't exist). This workbook will take time and effort on your part. The end result however will be a life free of anxiety and panic and a trail back to feeling, thinking and acting "normal" again.

This workbook is much more simple to understand and follow compared to other CBT books I've read (and there are many). The steps are very easy to follow and the principles have been reduced down to their bare elements which I found helped enormously when dealing with issues amid panic andanxiety. Most importantly though, through constant practice and "homework" it en grains the thinking and ultimately bends our irrational beliefs/fears back to where they should be. Normal!

I've been following the program through with a psychologist who practices CBT and have found this beneficial. That said though, I'm also of the firm belief that it's been 90% my own work which has made the difference so if you aren't able to afford or have problems seeing someone I'm still convinced this workbook will work wonders for you.

In short this is a fantastic workbook which has changed life for me and will for you if you have the guts to make a commitment, accept some changes and start living again to your full potential.

If I can so can you!
