5-0 out of 5 stars Easy read, informative, positive and interesting
I have a 16 year old daughter who suffers from panic disorder. I read this book first and then passed it on to her. It is a simple read that took a few hours to get through.
It explains subject matter in an easy to understand format. It is also a very positive read and should give the reader hope and some understanding.

5-0 out of 5 stars A new, life changing perspective on our condition
One out of every ten people in the modern world, regardless of age, gender, nationality, education, or socioeconomic background, suffers from some type of anxiety or panic disorder. I'm one of them. And I know what a struggle living with this condition is. But no more. With a straight-to-the-point language, tons of knowledge that comes from personal experience, thorough explanations of symptoms and causes, and above all, the compassion that can only come form an "ex-sufferer", Bronwyn Fox displays with words the road to not just recovery, but "total" recovery. And the most wonderful effect that this book has on you is that, after reading it, it leaves you with the feeling that, although you thought for a good period of your life that you would never recover, recovery is actually rather simple, and that your illness is not such a big deal after all. It really isn't, you just have the wrong points of view and the wrong approaches to certain thoughts, that's all. This book will teach you how to change those views, and after that happens, you'll be free once again. For the price, it beats the heck out of paying $150 for an hour with a therapist who cannot relate to what you're going through, and above all, doesn't really care what you're going through.

5-0 out of 5 stars At last!
After suffering for over 20 years from panic disorder I came upon this blessed book through the HUB site for anxiety disorders.
In this book you will only find expert condensed information, nothing superfluous. It is the 'bible' of anxiety and panic sufferers as it offers specific information on how to deal with anxiety and panic and show you the path to recovery via mindfullness, meditation and Cognitive behaviour therapy.
It teaches you how to loose your fear of fear, how to give an end to the "what if's",how to observe your worst nightmares in a detached yet self loving manner.
It talks about the importance of self esteem in anxiety disorders, about self acceptance, about reconsiliation with fear.
It illustrates the points made with examples from real people in real life and most importantly of all it is written by someone who has 'been there' herself!
For me this book has done more than years and years of psychotherapy...In only 6 months I feel I am in control of my self again when last summer I was falling apart from repeated panic attacks, anxiety and depression.

3-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced and low on content
This is a very brief book(let) on panic disorder. It presents some basic facts and recommends the practice of meditation, which is good advice. The content is good but sparse. The book is skimpy on details and way overpriced.

5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding, experience and authority
Power Over Panic is written with the authority of great experience in treating anxiety disorders AND with the compassion and understanding of someone who's been there. She has. This was the first book I found that talked "to" me and not just "about"me,as I went through the most bewildering and frightening experience of my life.Bronwyn Fox is also one of the few writers who has a great depth of knowledge of dissociation (feelings of unreality, feeling out of body)that so often continue to frighten the anxious person.

If you need to be reassured before buying her book check out The Panic and Anxiety Hub on the web and read about her workshops and simple (but not easy)methods of recovery.I'm making real progress with Power Over Panic and I highly recommend it as a stand alone book or in conjuction with professional treatment or other self help methods (Dr. Claire Weekes is another good one!).Thank You Bronwyn Fox! ... Product Description
Therapists and their clients benefit from understanding how anxiety isgenerated in the brain, how it can become panic or unbounded worry, andultimately how the brain re-establishes the neurochemical balance thatis basic to a state of well-being.These insights in the brain underlying mental phenomena put anxiety into a perspective that makes it easier to become calm, and provides the bases for effective intervention with thought exercises, breathing techniques, and behavioral adaptations.

The Anxious Brain is a timely clinical guide.Current statistics show that up to one-third ofAmericans suffers a panic attack during theirlifetime and up to eight percent is currentlysuffering from one of the anxiety disorders.Medication, once considered the first line oftreatment, is losing public favor as clientsrealize their symptoms re-emerge when they stopusing the drugs. However, our increasingunderstanding of the brain offers clinicians and clients a new and expanding set of resources that include but go well beyond pharmacologicaltreatments.

Wehrenberg and Prinz describe brain structure and function and neurotransmitter activity related to the three major anxiety disorders in a way that psychotherapists can better understand, diagnose, and effectively treat anxiety disorders. Rich in neurophysiological diagrams and practical exercises that target the activity of specific neurological mechanisms, this book shows us how to take control of our brains to alleviate various anxiety disorders. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Axiously awaited
Among the crippling effects of panic and anxiety disorders is the shame and guilt sufferers place on themselves for not being able to control their cognitions and the stigmas about mental illness. While written for clinicians, this book can be liberating for anyone looking for the brain-based causes of their panic or anxiety. It offers clinicians a number of modalities for treating panic and anxiety, ranging from cognitive behavioral therapy to breathing to drugs (with descriptions of which drugs fit which symptoms).

This book should go a long way toward removing the stigma of this often hidden set of disorders that destroy the quality of life for its sufferers, and offer simple, proven modalities that, in the hands of a qualified therapist can change lives.

4-0 out of 5 stars the anxious brain
I read this book because I have issues with anxiety and repetitive thinking. It does have some technical info on the brain which is not easy to grasp for the layman, but it was pretty fascinating to see all the intricacies of brain function.
I found it very helpful in understanding the different types of anxiety disorders, how they are different from each other, and their treatment. It was informative on practical ways to abate compulsive thinking- without medication, and when appropriate, very comprehensive information on the many different medications in use for treating different anxiety disorders. She lists which medications are appropriate for each type of problem, and from a practitioners perspective, which meds to use first, then which to go to if those aren't a good fit, and so forth. Also she lists all the possible side affects of the individual medications, some history of their use and how to match the right drug to the patient according to a variety of factors. Thereis a lot of good information in this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative
Allows those who suffer anxiety or panic attacks to better understand their condition and do something about it in terms of self help. Can also be very useful for relatives of the patient.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get out of the cycle!
This writer really hits the nail on the head when she talks about the
whole cycle of panici.e., you freak out that you're going to have
a panic attack, which makes you have a panic attack, which makes you
avoid dealing with it, which makes you feel like a loser, which makes you
try to deal with it, which makes you freak out that you're going to
have a panic attack, which, duh, makes you have another panic attack!
But then there are actually some cool techniques to get OUT of the damn
cycle. So I recommend this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Self Help Book
I recently got this and it is certainly an above average anti anxiety self help book, I have read many and this offers some real ways to reduce anxiety as it titles states. Its most certainly worth picking up.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Helps my Clients!
I am a professional in the healing arts, and over the years I've treated many clients who suffer from one form of anxiety disorder or another. Last year, one of my regulars got her hands on this book, and wow! She really showed tremendous improvement. She asked me if I would recommend it to my other clients, so I read it, and thought enough of it to suggest it to a few other clients with anxiety-related issues. So far, the word back has been totally positive. I'm embarassed to say it's taken me almost a year to get around to writing this review, but if it helps even one person with what I can vouch for being a particularly difficult problem to overcome, I've done my job.

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Help --No Bull.
Ninety-nine percent of thebooks I've read that were supposedly going to help me with my panic attacks have been (to put it charitably) so NOT helpful. Mostly they tend to skip out on the hard-core practical advice, hoping that your doctor and/or therapist will fill in all the difficult blanks. But Panic Free rocked my world. Even though it's easy to read (I found the writing stylekind of entertaining!) all the info is there, and it makes sense, and -- best of all-- it is user-friendly.
In order to feel like any bookis helping me get better, I really need proof it's working. Since there are exercises to do in here -- and since they are totally working for me -- I feel way more confident that I can recover FOR GOOD.
In all, I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Reading
Shirley Trickett writes understandable language and helpful guidelines
for this illness.I recommend this natural approach to everyone who
would prefer to achieve results without chemicals.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really is helping me!
I've suffered from panic attacks for nearly all of my adult life (let's just say I've held @ 29 for a while!).While I don't suffer from an attack daily (although I did in the beginning), I do suffer from the FEAR of having an attack.Panic is slowly eroding my life away, and I find myself giving into it as I get older.I've read articles and information online about panic disorder and how to cope with it.I found this book and read it over the weekend.I felt as though Ms. Trickett cracked open my chest and looked into my heart and soul!At times, I cried because I felt as though she were reading my life's story back to me.The best thing I took away from this book is the information on hyperventilating - I had NO IDEA this was going on during a panic attack! In my opinion, Chapter 9, "Improve Your Breathing," is the MOST helpful how-to literature I've read about diaphragmic breathing.I've practiced yoga in both a studio and at home with DVDs, as well as found online information about deep breathing, and I was really able to put this type of breathing into practice thanks to this book.I've been practicing it as often as I can and I feel very calm and collected - I'm hoping that the positive practice becomes habit so I can remain calm.I also hope to be able to call on this breathing in the event of a panic attack AND before trying something that would put me in the way of a situational panic attack (flying and driving on the freeway are 2 things that toss me into panic).I would recommend putting this book into your library as a resource and couple it with any and all other resources you are using (therapy, medicine, etc.).For those of us that suffer from panic/anxiety disorder, we need all the tools we can get in our arsenal!

4-0 out of 5 stars Simple Solutions You Can Apply Today for Immediate Results
After suffering personally from panic attacks, Trickett compiles numerous studies and self-help answers from medical journals and files, scientific publications, and empirical wisdom on how to recognize symptoms of panic attacks and how to treat them yourself.
Covering topics from exhausted nerves to low blood sugar she gives some wonderful suggestions on how a healthy diet, muscle maintenance and proper breathing can reduce the cause and effect of Agoraphobia.
Great book with lots of practical information.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mother of a Panic Attack Sufferer
While I appreciate Ms. Trickett's efforts, it does not address the seriousnes of some panic attack sufferers. My daughter suffered up to 35 panic attacks a day and was quickly becoming agoraphobic (fear of going aside for fear of triggering an attack). While prayer plays a role, her book is not sufficient enough to truly deal with the seriousness of this issue. It has taken two years of therapy to bring to the surface the root of the problem and telling a victim to pray, go outside daily, laugh, etc. really is not much help.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good intentions but at times counterproductive
Although the author is obviously driven by good intentions, such as promoting natural therapies which are invariably ignored by traditional medicine, she seems to have a dangerous prejudice against the use of medications which can be very useful for the treatment of more serious forms of panic attacks. The relaxation, diet, breathing retraining and massage techniqies she recommends are all very nice things and can be very helpful for mild sufferers. They can undoubtedly also be of great help for people with a more severe condition. However, writing that tranquillizers and antidepressants can actually cause panic attacks - as she does - can considerably increase a patient's fears and phobias about taking the medication he or she has been rightly prescribed.
I found certain parts of the book as extremely helpful - such as the ones where she describes what happens in our body during panic attacks - which helps to de-mistify them and put them into perspective. However, as I pointed out, her stigma against tranquillizers, sleeping pills and even anti-depressants is absolutely counterproductive and it ignores the fact that millions of people would have to leave their jobs and isolate themselves for months if they avoided taking them - thus perhaps adding to their low self-esteem and in some cases precipitating their depressive symptoms to uncontrollable levels. Although the underlying conditions are very different, what she writes is comparable to telling people who suffer from diabetes they should be careful about taking insulin because they may become addicted. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Educate and Empower Yourself!
After having my first panic attack years ago, I decided to educate myself and I purchased this book. This book helped me realize why I was having these attacks and allowed me to get on the path of getting my life back.It was a critical piece of the puzzle to this healing process and I am so glad that this was the book that I chose.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for an agoraphobic!
I was quite dissapointed after reading most of this book. It refers to Agoraphobia simply as an avoidance! It gives the general common sence answers for anexiety ; both social and common. I have had Agoraphobia (housebound) for almost 13 years...this time. But have been plagued by it most of my life. It seems by her saying Agoraphobia is merely an avoidance, it is trivalizing the seriousness of it! Wish I had not bought this waste of time! J. Dalton, Swansea, MA.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Big Help To Me
This book was very helpful to me.Just reading it seems to cause one's anxious thoughts to subside, as the book describes the causes and physical aspects of a panic attack and helps the reader to identify the process and isolate it as an objective physical and mental phenomenon which can be dealt with rationally using simple techniques described in the book. There are also questions to guide the reader to identify aspects of their personal and family history that may be contributing to the anxiety and panic attacks, and it includes information about standard treatments and medications for anxiety.

The phenomenon of anxiety is rooted in a panicky feeling of being overwhelmed in a crisis. The mere act of objectively studying the anxiety and panic helps to defuse it.Also it is a great help to see that anxiety symptoms are common to other people who have successfully learned to live with and/or overcome them.

Additionally this book is good because it allows you to practice "bibliotherapy" in the privacy of your own home, if you are uncomfortable with the idea of going through the formal mental health system to get some help, and helps you to realize whether your problem is severe enough to need professional assistance, or if you can manage it yourself.

4-0 out of 5 stars Magnesium can relieve anxiety and panic; please read review!
I am very familiar with the pain of anxiety, panic attacks, and agoraphobia for I suffered from these maladies for several decades. During those years of suffering I believed that my problems were purely mental and underwent treatment by psychiatrists, psychologists, and hypnotherapists. I took various prescribed medications and read many books such as this, but experienced little relief. And then something wonderful happened: I began taking a daily supplement of chelated magnesium (for a different ailment) and shortly thereafter experienced a significant diminishment of anxiety in addition to cure of the ailment for which I had originally taken the supplemental magnesium. There seemed to be no explanation for why taking supplemental magnesium caused this wonderful loss of anxiety until the publication in 2003 of the important book The Miracle of Magnesium by Dr. Carolyn Dean. Early in her book Dr. Dean reveals that a major cause of anxiety and panic attacks is deficiency of magnesium and that magnesium deficiency is quite common in the U.S. Therefore, I beg all sufferers of anxiety, panic attacks, and agoraphobia -- whatever else you may do -- please purchase and read The Miracle of Magnesium by Dr. Carolyn Dean and please try the magnesium supplementation which she recommends. It may change your life as it has changed mine.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good overview - not the best pick
Considering the fact that more than 280 peer-reviewed articles on panic disorder have been published since 1997, when Zuercher-White released her excellent book A Step-By-Step Clinical Guide to Treating Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia, an update of the literature is welcome. Synthesizing the results of such a large number of research papers (Panic Disorder contains more than 600 cited references) is a formidable task that students and clinicians have no time to do themselves.

As the title implies the book deals with panic disorder from diverse clinical perspectives - psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, psychopharmacological, homeopathic, non-traditional, and combined treatments. It covers the nature and definition of panic, different theories of panic and the diagnoses of panic disorder, including differentiating panic attacks from other medical conditions producing panic-like symptoms. There is also an excellent overview of the assessment of panic disorder, including assessment of biological, cognitive, affective, behavioral and social factors. A very good overview of psychometric properties for 23 popular measurement instruments is given as well. Furthermore, a number of treatment strategies, including cognitive-behavioral techniques are discussed. The book closes with an in-depth case study illustrating a combined treatment approach for panic with agoraphobia, a model of an easy-to-follow treatment plan, and a review of various self-help strategies.

If you are looking for specific cognitive-behavioral techniques described in great detail A Step-By-Step Clinical Guide to Treating Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia is still the best choice. However, if it is an overview of treatment approaches to panic with an accurate and updated review of the professional literature that you want, this book is thoroughly recommended.

Product Description
Despite the enormous progress in the pharmacological and cognitive-behavioral treatments of panic disorder over the last 30 years, these treatments often provide only temporary or partial relief and many patients continue to experience persistent anxiety symptoms after the discontinuation of treatment. Substantial evidence exists that intrapsychic conflict and characterological features play a central role in the genesis and onset of panic disorder as well as the frequency of relapse after the termination of treatment. Many clinicians believe that psychodynamic psychotherapy is the best-suited approach to address these issues.

Based on extensive clinical experience and written by distinguished experts in the field, the Manual of Panic-Focused Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is the first manual to comprehensively examine the usefulness of exploratory psychotherapy in the treatment of panic disorder. It suggests that psychodynamic approaches can aid both psychopharmacological and cognitive-behavioral treatments and can often resolve panic symptoms in many patients when used as the sole treatment modality. The authors catalog psychological factors commonly present in panic disorder patients and describe how to address them within a psychodynamic psychotherapy. A wealth of clinical vignettes and a complete case examples illustrate the psychodynamic approach to this disorder. Other treatment issues including defense mechanisms, transference, termination of treatment, and the use of this method in conjunction with other therapeutic approaches are also covered. ... This was a gift to a family member who is a therapist. She seemed to be very pleased with the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Advance in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a widespread treatment that has unfortunately not received the empirical testing it deserves. One reason that has been cited for its lack of research is the difficulty in standardizing psychodynamic psychotherapy in a manual form so that therapists can be trained to deliver itreliably.Dr. Milrod and her colleagues have met this challenge. Their book clearly describes how psychodynamic psychotherapy can be focused to treat panic disorder, a common and disabling but treatable condition. The book serves as the treatment manual for an ongoing comparative psychotherapy study at Cornell University in New York City, where Panic-Focused Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is being compared to another treatment to test its efficacy. The authors are knowledgeable psychoanalysts. Their well-written book should be helpful to psychodynamic psychotherapists, and perhaps to patients with panic as well. It represents an important advance for the field. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book On Anxiety Disorders
C.B. Scrigner's From Panic To Peace of Mind is truly one of the classics, when it comes to books on anxiety and panic disorders.

Dr. Scrigner's book is unlike most that you will find on the subject, in that he approaches anxiety disorders from a largely unbiased point of view. Most books in this category preach purely cognitive methods of combating anxiety disorders and agoraphobia, while others focus on the physiological aspects of the disease. This is one of the few that draws a balance between the two, and acknowledges that no one solution is right for everyone.

This is a pretty basic book from most perspectives, so you will not need any prior knowledge of medical jargon in order to keep up. Yet it largely sticks to a clinical overview that is aimed at doctors, patients and others who are affected by anxiety/panic disorders, agoraphobia, obsessive compulsive disorders, and more simple phobias.

About the only downside of this book is its limited size and depth. It's a fairly quick read. There is only enough room for a fairly basic discussion of very complicated subjects such as psychopharmacology, cognitive therapy, methods of dealing with stress, etc. Still, it gives an excellent overview of these diseases, and the basic methods of treatment.

This is definitely not a book that pretends to "cure" people of phobias or psychological disorders, as many seem to do these days. What it will do is give you a much better understanding of how anxiety disorders "work" and how to most effectively treat them. For anyone with an interest in anxiety or panic disorders, this is an excellent volume to have on your bookshelf. ... Read more

Product Description
The treatment described in this Therapist Guide is specifically designed for adolescents with panic disorder and agoraphobia. Panic disorder often first appears in adolescence, making effective treatment for this age group a priority. Left untreated, panic disorder can severely impair an adolescent's development and functioning. It can put an adolescent at risk for depression and have consequences into adulthood.

The program was developed at the Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders at Boston University and targets patients ages 12-17. It is comprised of 12 sessions to be delivered over an 11-week period. Adolescents learn about the nature of panic and anxiety and how to challenge their panic thoughts. Exposure sessions help them face their fears and stop avoiding situations that cause heightened anxiety. An adaptation chapter addresses how to modify the program for intensive (8 day) treatment, as well as how to tailor the treatment to different ages. Each session includes an optional parent component and an appendix provides handouts for parents. The corresponding workbook is specifically designed for adolescent use, with easy to understand explanations and teen-friendly forms. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Granoff saved my life!
I was suffering from what was initially believed to be a heart problem- tachycardia, sweating, high anxiety, faintness, for no apparent cause. These symptoms began quite suddenly, for no apparent reason. Later, the symptoms became so severe that I developed phobias that put great restrictions on my ability to live and work. Because I love life and the outdoors, and needed to keep working, I began to do my own research. After several doctors told me that there was no such thing as a true "panic attack," I found Dr. Granoff- practically in my own back yard. I ordered the book and video, and learned that not only was I NOT alone, but that there was a treatment for my problem which would allow me to resume a normal life. Anxiety and panic are real, not something one can simply "snap out of," and these are illnesses that can be treated and managed. Dr. Granoff will work with you regardless of your circumstances. He really cares!
I have been a patient of his for almost 10 years, so I know of what I speak. His wife Ann who runs the office, and Yellow Lab "Nugget" who greets the patients with a kind brown eyed gaze and wagging tail are wonderful too and the three of them make a team that is hard to beat.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT Resource for Anxiety or Panic Disorder Sufferers
This is my very first review, although I have been using Amazon for many many years... This book is incredible. It is clearly written, easy to follow, and provides a vast amount of information in a condensed 90-page book. This book outlines what many other books written about this topic do, but builds on it by offering a real, no-nonsense guide to selecting a qualified medical professional to assist the reader with help.It is well-documented that therapy is one of the most effective treatment options for people suffering from anxiety disorders, especially panic disorder in particular. I speak from personal experience, as I have suffered from both anxiety and panic disorders for many years. As someone who has scoured all available resources in an effort to educate myself on this, I am truly glad I found this book. Simply put, if you or someone you know is dealing with these issues, this book is a great place to start.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dated; Really pushes the Medications
Written and updated way back in 1997; would have been better to have the latest information on the medicines in the intervening 10 years. His insistence on pushing the anti-anxiety medications - despite their addictive qualities - made me uncomfortable. He also seems disdainful of alternative methods of treating/overcoming anxiety/panic disorders.I had hoped to really like his book and find it useful and reassuring, but instead, I felt annoyed at reading it - as if the author was arrogant with his opinions and attitude about treatment options.I cannot recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Read!!!
Prior to reading Dr. Granoff's book I had tried numerous medications, psychotherapy, CBT, desensitization, etc. etc.Nevertheless, the panic remained.I was on the fast track to complete agorophobia.Subsequent to reading his book I met with him and now I am living my life again and pursuing a career path and life that seemed impossible before. With the CORRECT knowledge, treatment for what is a physical condition, and some personal work; you can overcome panic disorder.I highly recommend his book.In short, Dr. Granoff is a REAL consumer advocate for those suffering from this crappy disorder.

5-0 out of 5 stars EYE OPENING
Dr. Granoff's book is superb. For anyone who has ever suffered a panic attack, this book should be the first one that you read.

The well-credentialed Dr. Granoff begins with a thorough, yet understandable, analysis of what occurs chemically in a person's brain when they suffer a panic attack. (The list of symptoms will absolutely surprise you. You may find that panic disorder has been manifesting itself over many years, sometimes worsening in the absence of appropriate treatment.)

An interesting fact that I discovered in this book is that benzodiazepine is a naturally occurring chemical in the brain. Dr. Granoff compassionately, yet analytically, explains how this chemical functions in the brain, and how panic attacks can occur when there are deficient quantities of naturally-occurring benzodiazepine.

Dr. Granoff does not say this, but, it is possible that, after you read this book, you will conclude that the pharmaceutical industry deliberately pushes its new, PATENTED, EXPENSIVE drugs, while at the same time dogging the benzodiazepine family of drugs (Xanax, etc.) because the exclusive patents on the benzodiazepines have expired and they are, thus, a cheap (and perhaps more effective) means of treating your panic disorder.

Of course, only a competent psychiatrist can properly determine your clinical diagnosis, but, Dr. Granoff gives an accessible view of panic disorder and its solutions.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, however, Dr. Granoff gives you lots of hope by sharing his substantial clinical experience in treating this potentially debilitating disorder. If you can stop panic attacks, then that is a victory for you and your loved ones, and Granoff explains how victory is possible.

Many thanks to Dr. Granoff for writing a book that steared me in the right treatment direction. I consider it providence that this plain-looking book would have helped me so much. I was unable to carry on my profession before I sought the appropriate treatment after reading this book. I have a life now, and a hope. And that is more than I can say that I had two years ago. ... Cognitive behavioral therapy was developed by psychiatrist Aaron T. Beck and is now internationally favored as a practical means of overcoming longstanding and disabling conditions, both psychological and physical. This positive, pragmatic approach is popular with therapists and patients alike.

The accessible, straightforward, and practical books in this series outline affordable and easy-to-follow treatment plans, and have provided tens of thousands of readers with the help they need to overcome self-defeating behavior and lead happier lives.

Books in the Overcoming Series:

* provide a structure ideal for personal use or in a program using guided step-by-step self-help techniques like recordkeeping and problem-solving
* include diagnostic questionnaires, case studies, and workbook-style interactive exercises
