According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 7.7 square miles (20.0 km²), of which, 7.3 square miles (18.8 km²) of it is land and 0.5 square miles (1.2 km²) of it (5.95%) is water. There are several distinct sections of Harrison Township that form communities: As of the census of 2000, there were 10,934 people, 4,796 households, and 3,126 families residing in the township. The population density was 1,503.6 people per square mile (580.7/km²). There were 5,246 housing units at an average density of 721.4/sq mi (278.6/km²).
