Product Description
A precise predictability of the results of a disease is profound and crucial for proper treatment planning. Since the understanding of periodontal disease has progressed to include the influence of risk factors, assigning a prognosis has become more perplexing to the clinician. Various factors that influence the overall and individual tooth prognosis have been enumerated, as well as the classification systems required to assign a prognosis has also been included. An experienced clinician should analyse all these factors, along with the patients attitude towards dental therapy, prior to arriving at a judgement for a single tooth or teeth. With newer trends in treatment modalities, patients can seek better options for treatment, thus improving the long term prognosis. This book highlights a detailed overview related to devising a periodontal prognosis. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Public Health Crisis
All root canal-treated teeth are toxic, says the author. There are no exceptions. There will probably never be an effective way to disinfect dentin tubules. Extraction is the only remedy, plussurgical debridement of the socket to remove all infected bone. Otherwise, jaw cavitation--gangrene of the jaw--may occur. Shocking? Yes, of course, but facts must be faced. Cavitations are common, says the author, and very toxic.Panoramic X-rays can sometimes find them, but cannot rule them out.Ultrasound can find them better.

The author once did dental implants, but now warns against them. They can cause serious problems, however well done. Better to avoid them entirely. Although titanium is relatively bio-compatible, it requires alloys that might not be.

This book is technical, but understandable to intelligent lay readers. It is must reading for any dentist tired of saving the tooth but losing the patient. Dental toxicityis a public health crisis and the dental establishment needs to get with the program or get out of the way. Enough of unnecessary suffering!

1-0 out of 5 stars Correlation is not causality
Yes, there is a CORRELATION between periodontal and cardiac disease. That doesn't mean that one causes the other.Does eating ice cream make people wear shorts?Because when people are eating ice cream, they also tend to be wearing shorts more often.Or could it be that there's some THIRD FACTOR that causes both????Could it just be that, now I'm about to suggest something radical, but could it be that people who tend to neglect their health tend to have both periodontal and cardiac disease, and THAT's why they correlate?Think about.Don't go making stupid assumptions.Correlation is not causality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who would of guessed?
Who would have ever guessed that dental disease could have such a signifigant part in so many illnesses? For far to long denistry and the rest of medicine have been totally seperate fields. What is going on in your mouth is seen as having little relavance to the disease conditions going on the in the rest of the body. For to long dental school training has focused on saving your teeth at any cost.

"The Roots of Disease: Connecting Denistry andMedicine" was written by two men. One of these men is a dentist and the other a cadiologist. For over a decade these two health care professionals have witnessed that the removal and complete healing of infected dental sites can often result in the total healing (or at least vast improvement) of other diseases in the body.

Have you ever been told that root canals harbor bacteria that infect the rest of your body causing diseae? That this is also true of sites where wisdom teeth have been improperly removed? I wasn't able to regain my health until my dental issues were dealt with. I no longer have a stressed out immune system and the constant candida albicans that this reulted in.

This well written, thorough look at the health problems affeted by oral infection is a must read for anyone interested in obtaining optimal health.

5-0 out of 5 stars Breaking with dentistry's omerta
Tom Levy graduated from Johns Hopkins University, studied and taught medicine at Tulane, and then, to paraphrase his words, actually began to think about what he was doing.

Most people do not understand that there are hardly any fields of medicine in which the best in the field don't believe things could be done a lot better, but run into institutional resistance which they can't overcome.Nor is this phenomenon limited to medicine.

In this book, written together with Dr. Kulacz, a former instructor at NYU, they critique dentistry, and expose how antiquated and indeed antediluvian practices CAN cause much sickness. Not every root canal causes harm, but not every apparently healthy root canal is harmless. This is nothing new; it was known in Germany more than 40 years ago. When I brought this book to the attention of my dentist, a great dentist in his own right, he was very grateful for the ideas in it, and agreed that Levy and Kulacz's contention that painkillers that contain noradrenalin retard wound healing, and that you have to manually curette (scrape) out the mess under bad root canals made absolute sense.(Using a drill produces sufficient heat to kill more bone, which results in more rot.)

That these claims are controversial is self-evident, and either suggests that they are wrong or that others do wish to acknowledge their findings. To my mind, Drs. Levy and Kulacz are every bit as much heros as the men on the first wave onto the Normandy Beaches on D-Day.

Anyone with an inordinate interest in critiques of dental science - small crowd that we may be - does well to purchase this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank God for this book!
Thank God for this book and Dr.Kulacz! A M.D. from the Cleveland Clinic told me about Dr.Kulacz and this book. When reading this book about some of the other patients I thought I was reading about myself. This book is as truthful as it gets about root canals , dental materials and proper procedures about extractions. This book is a must read for the people that suspect that their teeth may be one of the culprits to their health issues. Of course after reading this book I would think most sensible people would not take drastic action as to extract their own teeth ,as one person posted. I would love to stand outside of every dentist office and pass out this book to patients that are about to get a root canal. This book opens your eyes to the other side of root canals that your dentist will not tell you before the procedure. By the way your natural teeth are not better if they are giving you pain and lowering your immune system. You must read this book if you are searching for the truth about your teeth problems. Dr.Kulacz has integrity and morals which is what you would expect from any doctor. If I could I would rate this book higher than a five. ... Read more

Uniquely, there is also a focus on the burgeoning field of periodontal microsurgery, and the techniques and methods learned from other branches of microsurgery are applied to realities of dentistry, for enhanced soft tissue results. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very Practical
I found this humble looking book very useful. The procedures are well described in the text, even though many of the pictures are self explanatory. Those who are dedicated to oral, periodontal or implant surgery will findsimple ways to enhance the outcome of your treatments. It also has a second part, Advanced Periodontal Plastic Surgery which is excellent.

3-0 out of 5 stars Periodontal Surgery: A Clinical Atlas
The volume arrived in perfect condition. The large and well-spaced format promised clear illustration and sequencing of procedures, which was mostly, but not always, the case. A number of procedures had quite complex suturing involved, which was only shown when completed, not during the suturing, and this I found quite a let down.
Overall, the Atlas describes, with the aid of great photographs, a variety of periodontal surgical procedures, but does not always provide the desired detail in all aspects of the procedure. ... Read more
