5-0 out of 5 stars great book for plastic surgery residents/fellows and other surgerons
Drs. Kryger and Sisco have done a great job simplifying the most commonly encountered problems in plastic surgery (including hand, reconstructive, craniofacial and cosmetic surgery) and explaining the treatment and work up for these problems.
The book is small enough to fit in a lab coat pocket or small bag and is a MUST for doctors who encounter these problems in the ER or clinic.
I bought mine in residency and used it daily as a quick reference and I still use it when I encounter zebras in practice. ... Read more

Product Description

The management of wounds poses a considerable challenge for clinicians. It is with great pleasure that we therefore introduce Surgery in Wounds to the wound healing fraternity to convey some important surgical perspectives and philosophies that are utilised when dealing with an array of difficult wounds.

There is no doubt that our improved understanding of wound healing biology and new technologies will continually influence clinical practice. Traditionally, reconstructive surgeons have adopted a one-stop surgical approach for the closure of wounds over the last few decades using flap surgery as the cornerstone of their armamentarium. However, alternative and adjunctive solutions are now being developed which offer a new staged approach to wound management. In particular, we must embrace these ideas into surgical practice as well as integrating ideas from across all surgical disciplines.

This book brings together a veritable wealth of surgical experience and reflects practice on a global scale. It explores many avenues: from basic concepts to advanced reconstructive procedures. We hope that this may expose the reader to new ideas and generate the enthusiasm and desire to apply these lessons to their own clinical practice.

There are two kinds of knowledge: that which we already know, and that which we know where to find. Surgery in Wounds offers an opportunity to find such knowledge readily and we hope will be a welcome addition to the libraries of individuals and institutions alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars STEDMAN'S PLASTIC SURGERY, ENT, & DENTISTRY WORDS
I was so pleased with my reference book when I received it.This is the first in the series that I have bought. This book is jammed packed with information. There is so much more than just words.Sample reports, anatomy pictures, Appendixes of multiple topics, Surgery with the common words used in that surgery procedure.I was absolutely excited about a book.Every MT that types these types of reports must have this.Easy to use.I cannot say enough good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stedman's is the best!
Absolutely agree with the earlier review posted below. This volume was published in 1999, and an updated volume should be coming along soon, but meanwhile, this exhaustive collection of words relating especially to ears, nose, throat, and teeth is without peer.If you're an MT looking into expanding your library because you've found yours wanting, Stedman's is the place to look, and this book is a crucial part of such a library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best reference for plastic surgery/ENT/dentistry words
"Plastic Surgery/ENT/Dentistry Words" is a gem of a reference for the transcriptionist doing work in any of these specialty areas. It is chock full with 69,000 entries derived from >40,000 medical words, phrases, abbreviations, and acronyms. These are convenientlycross-referenced.Who of us has not heard, for example, some kind of"flap" mumbled by the dictator while transcribing a surgicalreport; here, a list of >4½ pages of various types of flaps areblessedly enumerated.Additionally, surgical instruments and medicationsare handily listed as well.

Four appendixes complete this volume: 1)anatomical illustrations [54 pages of them!], 2) sample reports [op notes]ranging in variety from typical liposuction surgery to an orbiculopexy, 3)common terms of procedure [such as septoplasty terms, etc.], and 4) commonherbs in both Latin and common terminology. This latter is interesting, but I am confounded as to what is its use in this volume.

Nevertheless, this handy volume is really the Bible when it comes to a reference foranyone transcribing medical reports in the above-mentioned specialty areas. I recommend it highly! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with the content
I was looking forward to reading this book.If you are looking for general information on all procedures then you found it.I was disappointed with lack of specific information and the pictures. You can easily find the broad knowledge presented in this book on the Internet.I wouldn't recommend this to someone is trying to research a particular procedure they are interested in.

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING & INFORMATIVE
Very well organized, direct and easy to read. Describes how to pick a reputable surgeon, explains procedures, what to expect and includes pitfals to procedures.Lots of before after pictures. The author does a great job at presenting the information.

4-0 out of 5 stars be an informed patient or loved one
Recommended to three types of readers:

(a) People considering having cosmetic surgery.

(b) People with loved ones considering or have received cosmetic surgery.

(b) People purely curious about cosmetic surgery.

The first few chapters describe medical training (e.g., board certification), health care environments (e.g., office vs. hospital), and patient qualifications (e.g., as healthy as possible). These chapters emphasize the importance of choosing an appropriate medical team. If the logic does not convince you, then the scary monochrome and color photographs will.

The remaining chapters explain various treatments, such as face-lifting and liposuction. Questions such as: Will there be pain? Will my skin turn red, and if so, for how long? How much will it cost? are answered candidly.

The book will help you become an informed patient, or a loved one of a patient. ... Read more
