5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative
Great easy read with pictures and clear explanations. In fact it was very comforting. Not to mention Dr. Engler is a wonderful doctor and I highly recommend him and his book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
This book answered questions, has pictures, and all the questions to ask and consider.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Source of Information
Like some of the others here, I came across this book because I work for a website that contains information about cosmetic surgery.I research articles and books for the website Breast Implants USA, and Dr. Engler's book has helped my understanding of many procedures and products. He speaks in a clear, concise way which is understandable by the lay person -- which is great because, if you've ever researched this stuff, you know how difficult it can be to understand some of the medical terminology.Engler takes the extra effort to make all the information real, interesting and accessible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative and thorough
As someone who operates a popular and very informative breast implant web site and forum...I cannot recommend this book enough.Dr. Engler covers everything, including information on other plastic surgery techniques, such as liposuction, breast lifts, breast reduction, and tummy tucks. The complete history of breast implants is covered, as well as the types of implants available (saline and silicone), the silicone controversy, shapes of various implants, placement of the implants, possible risks and complications, as well as before and after photos. This book really has everything. You will learn what to expect at your consultation, to anesthesia, to what the neighbors will say.

Plastic surgery is not something to be taken lightly.Much thought should go into the reasons WHY you want to have the surgery. This is covered in the book as well.

Dr. Engler is a highly respected surgeon, and is a wonderful authoritative source on breast augmentation. If you are contemplating any of the procedures outlined in this book, I urge you to read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Concise, yet thorough. BRAVO!
I have run a popular plastic surgery resource website, IMPLANTFORUM.COM, for over 4 years and I cant think of a thing Dr. Engler neglected to mention in this book, BodySculpture! Dr. Engler covers everything. From what to expect before, during & after surgery to the emotional aspect of undergoing plastic surgery. Each procedure (breast augmentation, breast reduction, liposuction and tummy tucks) is explained thoroughly, yet in easy to understand laymans terms. He details what youll get from a consult and all your options, to how to prepare for surgery and what transpires during surgery. He lists the risks of each surgery and what to expect when recovering and he does not sugar coat! Bravo!

The book includes lots of before and afters of each surgery, which is a great reference if you are planning on surgery or even if you are only contemplating surgery.

Dr. Engler is a graduate of Yale and is a ABPS board-certified plastic surgeon (the ONLY plastic surgery board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties). He was listed in 'The Best New York Metro Area Doctors' and in New York Magazine's The Best Doctors in New York. His office is in New York City. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great text! Very readable!
I utilized this book during my oculoplastics rotation and it proved to be an excellent resource. It is not an epitome - but rather focuses on the basis of the procedure to be performed, step-by-step techniques, caveats to avoid, and postoperative care. The advantage is that you can quickly learn about and/or review a procedure between surgeries; it made me shine. My attending even look it over and stated that it is more then sufficient for learning procedures. The techniques in the book were 99.99% identical to his. I rated it as only 4 stars as it could improve on illustrations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Manual of Oculoplastic Surgery
This is a wonderful book.Every ophthalmologist should have this book on their shelf.Experts from the field describe the most important procedures in oculoplastics. The descriptions of the surgeries are clear, and the illustrations are very helpful in understanding the nuances of surgical technique.Having this book is almost as good as having the master, Dr. Levine, beside you guiding you through surgery.

4-0 out of 5 stars handy manual
This manual is worth the price. Curiously for a surgery manual there is no chapter dealing with common antibiotics you need to carry a second book for this. I believe that they have short changed soft tissue infections.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Motivated Student on Surgery Clerkship
Used this book for surgery clerkship and aced the NBME shelf. This book has all the information you need to shine on a surgery clerkship. It is also ideal for residents/attendings making complex management decisions. It is at times dense and a little boring to read as a text but it has all the relevant information and a little more than you will need on the wards. Same size as Wash Manuel of Medical therapeutics (barely fits in white coat pocket). This book may be more valuable than wash manuel of medicine and is the ideal book for anyone motivated to provide up to date and effecient patient care.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great reference for Surgery Clerkship
If you're looking for the most accurate "condensed" text for your Surgery Clerkship, this book is perfect.Only downside is that it doesn't organize the information for you in terms of standardized testing (Shelf, Step II) or getting "pimped" on the wards. You'll need another text that CLEARLY outlines "most likely diagnosis," "next step in management," indications, most pertinent complications, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
As a General Surgeon and Surgery teacher in a residency I appreciate the value of this manual.I may get quick, truthful and current answers in my job and with my medical's residents.
Thank for this gem.

Product Description

The book covers the history of plastic surgery from the remarkable achievements of ancient civilizations e.g. India and Egypt, through the classical times of ancient Greece and Rome, up to the revolutionary techniques developed at the end of the Middle Age, the Renaissance and then beyond. Surgical progress has usually relied on the parallel development of anatomy.

The knowledge of wound healing and how this has changed and influenced plastic surgery is covered in the first part. The development of the basic techniques of the specialty such as skin flaps, the grafting of skin and other tissues are followed throughout the centuries.

In the Second Part the development of various surgical reconstructive procedures are described. The reader will realize how techniques which are routine today have evolved thanks to the ingenuity of our surgical ancestors.

Finally in Part Three the birth of Cosmetic Surgery, which has fulfilled the dreams of our ancestors, is outlined. Its rapid development is described stressing the efforts required to overcome the prejudices and criticism.

5-0 out of 5 stars options
This paperback book is a real eye opener for anyone considering cosmetic surgery of the face.. It is not written as a sales pitch for Physician who wrote the book.. Which I hesitated to buy for that reason.. I did buy the book and it was no way near a sales pitch for business.. This book is a must read before you spend your money, which any cosmetic procedure will cost you alot of money.. you need to read this book before you opt to make any changes to your appearance.. you cannot go back once you make your choice to have the operation.. As what many people forget its Real Surgery with scars.. you need to remember that.. it is not just about getting the result you desire. It is like any surgery, scarring, swelling, bruising.. but this all depends on the surgeon you choose. Swelling, bruising etc post operation all depends on how rough your surgeon is while you are under the knife so to speak.. under anesthesia.. gentle hands are what you want..Talk about scarring.. if you love to pull your hair up in a bun.. ponytail, Clips.. you need to research almost more than the regular surgical candidate.. This book will give you an overview on different choices, options... So you can go into your "Free" Consultation with all the facts.. this book will give you the facts.. Read it... then go shopping.. take your time... Remember you cannot go back once surgery is done..Good luck.

1-0 out of 5 stars Just ok book
If I hadn't already read many books before this one about plastic surgery I might have thought this was a good book and very informative, however for me this book has basic information.I wish I had not purchased this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating
This book provides a frank, and eye opening discussion of popular cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures.Definitely worth the effort to read if only "thinking" about undergoing a facial make over.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource!
This book really summarizes and clarifies the process of undergoing facial plastic surgery in very plain terms. It is an excellent resource for my patients who are looking into facial cosmetic procedures. It not only describes what the procedures are, but explains why certian patients are better canidates for particular procedures, as well as what types of physicians should be doing them. I have purchased numerous copies of this book for my office, and reccommend it on a daily basis.

Andrew J. Parker, M.D.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST if you are considering surgery!!!
Whether you want to find out what facial treatments work in your 30's, or are 60 and considering a total facelift, this is the read you need.Dr. Jacono breaks it down to a level that is truly easy and fun to understand.I have been considering getting my upper eyelids done, but it seems that I would get my desired result from an endoscopic browlift.Reading this book has certainly been an "eye-opening" experience. I will definitely recommend it to anyone interested in improving their appearance whether from injectibles (Botox, Restylane) or surgery.I just love the "pearls of wisdom" sections throughout the book.Great read! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Companion!
A very clever and unique concept. I understand why Dr. Kotler has a reputation as a good teacher.Keep in mind that this book does not replace standard, resource-like, "cover-it-all" books. The book covers what is recommended for hand surgery-readings for general orthopeadics in Denmark, but still need some more deatails in some areas.
