Cheng-ji Lai (Paul)The building up of vocabulary has been the first and last difficulty every language learner must encounter.The great majority of Chinese learners of English tend to find it harder to learn an ever-expanding English vocabulary.Most of them have tried but failed to overcome this difficulty.By teaching them prefixes, suffixesand roots, it will help the learners to better understand the words because it tells how these words are spelled and combined, what they mean, and where they come from.

Also,by teaching English vocabulary learners prefixes, suffixes and roots, learners can integrate easily the concepts and meanings of the words while they split up the combination of the words.Furthermore, they can read the prefixes to assume the basic meanings of the words.On the contrary, they also can associate the ideas of the meanings by reading through the suffixes.With following same set of pattern, learners learn by analogy so as to bear these vocabularies in minds for long and easily.Th successful use of this book with the practice of the exercise will benefit learners step by step.So, as an ESL teacher of vocabulary can choose this book as an reference.

What a fantastically enlightening and helpful book!As an Englisheducator I must admit I was stunned at how narrow the scope of my knowledgewas in this area.....and this book showed me! My ESL students (and secretlymyself) have found it absolutely invaluable in decifering the meanings ofunknown words from both in and out of context. I found that it made mystudents think more about the meanings of parts of words rather thanlooking at the whole word as a memorizable item. Motivational!
My fifth graders love making words when I use the suggestions from this resource book.It helps them retain important concepts such as prefixes and suffixes, so their vocabulary has also increased. Each lesson has the sorted letters you can print to make the "big word".However, to save paper, ink, and time, I just put the letters on the board for them to use, which works just as well.We do this every Friday afternoon. Students look forward to this activity so much, someone always mentions it on Friday morning.Anyone who teaches 5th grade knows if you find something that motivates them to learn, you should stick with it. Disappointed
As an upper grade teacher, I do not recommend this as a resource for your students. If you like throwing a bunch of roots and affixes at your students without any connection or scaffolding, then this resource is for you. Buying this was a mistake.

This book hits on the basics of Roots, prefixes and Suffixes and throws a few new things into the mix so that your junior high level student won't get bored and yet gets a good review every day of the things he should know at this level of reading.It's working well for our homeschool and saves time for us to get into things like genre and figurative language. ... "Resourceful"
Raymond E. Laurita's concise dictionary of prefixes, suffixes and inflections will be an industrious and resourceful tool to begin understanding in much more depth the essential structural components of the English language.Laurita's revised edition contains a large number of affixes that will not be found elsewhere; and furthermore it remains sigularly important because of its clear and basic composition making it independently the most informative edition available.Raymond E. Laurita's concise dictionary of affixes and their meanings, and the Chamber's Dictionary of Etymology is all the aspiring lanquage student will ever need.

Wonderful reference tool
