Finally a book on printers for regular people!
Most of the books that I have looked at in bookstores on printers havebeen full of technical jargon and very little information that I needed.With a little bit of reading, this book finally answered many of myquestions and gave me ideas on what to do with my new Epson inkjet. Itleads you step by step through most common chores too.

Beginner book with plenty of answers
I needed a printer for my first computer system, and this book told me all about what to look for during my visits to the stores.There's plenty of information here and my kids are trying out the crafts.It is a verycomplete book and I rate it four stars.I have bought several computerbooks to help me with Windows and my new Pentium 2 and this was the easiestto understand and had the most answers. I will recommend it to my friendsand family, the author did a good job.

What a disappointment
When I came across this book on Amazon.com, before it was available, I was very excited. As a computer maintenance technician whose knowledge is rather slack in the area of printers, I was very happy to see what Ithought was a brand new book on printer maintenance coming out. Other bookson the subject that I have browsed at Amazon seem to be rather dated: 1996or even earlier. And the fact that it was Hewlett-Packard was gravy -- justabout all of the printers under my care are HP models. What could be betterthan an HP printer handbook?

So you can imagine my dismay when the bookfinally became available and I got to read the above spiel from the author.Not what I had in mind at all. Antes de leer este libro no tenía idea sobre el funcionamiento de una impresora laser, sobre cómo darle mantenimiento y mucho menos repararlos. Me sirvió de mucha ayuda, logré entender la maravilla que es una impresora laser... Este libro me dio las herramientas necesarias para incluir el servicio a impresoras laser en mi centro de servicio a computadoras.

OK for laser theory, NOT for printer repair
This book is for understanding on how the laser printer works. Unfortunately a printer is very complicated mechanically and taking them apart is very tricky. This book is not practical. It doesn't emphasizetypical mechanical and electrical assemblies that need repair andreplacement due to wear and tear. Such as paper pickup rollers, fuserlamps, maint kits etc. It also doesn't have any disassembly procedures andexploded diagrams that will help you. There is no discussion on importantprinter options, such as ethernet print servers, PostScript, duplexers,power envelope feeders. I highly recommend getting a printer service manualfor your specific model instead, for example a HP single model Servicemanual. They are often on eBay auctions and printerworks.com .

What are you looking for?
If this book falls short, what are readers looking for? Something resembling (but better quality than) a Chilton "shop manual" covering repair of printers and possibly recycling of cartridges? Arepeople looking for good exploded views of various printers, parts andconsumables, required voltages and values, etc.? If so, please contact me.If there is some interest, I'll do it.

This is a textbook, not a repair manua!
"Easy Laser Printer Maintenance and Repair" started out as a textbook on electrophotographic technology. The title was obviously composed by the publisher's marketing staff. It is NOT a practical repairmanual!

Not a guide for practical laser printer repair
Do not buy "Easy Laser Printer Maintenance and Repair" if you need a guide for quick access to laser printer components for their repair or replacement. The book is unnecessarily heavy in laser printer theory,soldering and test instruments, etc. -- information that is unnecessary formost technically savvy people. It may be, as one reviewer has suggested, agood text book for repair person certification.Example: while itidentifies the high-voltage power supply as a common cause of failure andadvises its replacement under readily identified symptoms, not one photo orverbal description tells you where this component is actually located on HPor Epson laser printers, or how to extract and replace it. ... Printers Book
Adquirí este libro hace mucho tiempo, en el 2001, y me inclino a escribir una reseña sobre el mismo hoy, (un poco tarde). En aquel momento este libro me ayudó a entender el funcionamiento de las impresoras y a cómo resolver problemas relacionados con éstas. El mercado del servicio a impresoras es uno muy interesante. Todo técnico profesional de las computadoras, apoyo técnico y servicio al cliente debe tener un libro de referencia sobre printers. Este fue de gran ayuda en aquel entonces, no conozco si hay una versión ctualizada, (debe haberla porque su autor no descansa). Si trabajas con computadoras pesonales, debes tener un libro sobre cómo resolver asuntos con printers.

The weakest link in any computer system is undoubtedly the connection between the computer and the printer. Although there is an increasing level of compatibility between computers the same cannot be said of printers. As a result users spend a great deal of time in the frustrating business of trying to get their printer to work. The situation for laser printers is eased to a certain extent by the adoption of Postscript, a universal printer language that provides all the features needed to create any form of text or graphics. this provides compatibility over a wide range of printers, but is very complex and requires careful use. The aim of this book is to provide the tools that programmers need to write their own printer drivers. The book would contain all the necessary background information to cover the theory of printer drivers and would include the shell of a printer driver, written in several languages, that could be adapted for most applications. All of the common printers now available would be covered and there would be a complete specification of the printer codes for all printers on sale today.For each printer there would also be a description of the dip switches and other features that affect output. Perhaps most importantly, there would be complete coverage of Postscript, showing how it may be used to send any form of output to a laser printer.
