Product Description
This is a practical book, aimed at the development of real (albeit small) expert systems in the commercial and industrial fields. As such, it aims to teach PROLOG as a genuinely useful tool in building practical expert systems. Each chapter is self-contained and includes sample PROLOG programs to illustrate the important techniques to be used in developing expert systems. The final chapters contain a comprehensive study of user interface design and five case studies, making the book equally valuable to both educational and commercial readers. The case studies are chosen from diverse subject areas, but can be easily grasped by the general reader. ... Read more

Product Description
This comprehensive programmer's reference guide is designed for quick access and easy interpretation. A high-level resource, it provides concise, detailed information for designing, organizing, troubleshooting and debugging. Emphasis is on Turbo Prolog, but the scope is broad enough to include other major Prolog releases, ie, DEC Prolog and MicroProlog. The book covers the construction of facts, objects and rules within Prolog syntax and Turbo Prolog construction. Going on to discuss organization of program listings and techniques for controlling execution, it explains the predefined predicates and their use, along with file creation and access, graphics and sound. Also included is a set of appendixes including an ASCII code reference chart, a quick guide to built-in predicates and goals, a Prolog-to-Turbo Prolog conversion chart, graphics and sound values in tabular form and a Turbo Prolog language summary. ... Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Prolog is a general purpose logic programming language associated with artificial intelligence and computational linguistics. Prolog has its roots in formal logic, and unlike many other programming languages, Prolog is declarative: The program logic is expressed in terms of relations, represented as facts and rules. A computation is initiated by running a query over these relations. The language was first conceived by a group around Alain Colmerauer in Marseille, France, in the early 1970s and the first Prolog system was developed in 1972 by Alain Colmerauer and Phillipe Roussel. Prolog was one of the first logic programming languages, and remains among the most popular such languages today, with many free and commercial implementations available. While initially aimed at natural language processing, the language has since then stretched far into other areas like theorem proving, expert systems, games, automated answering systems, ontologies and sophisticated control systems. ... Product Description
This is a practical introduction to PROLOG for the reader with little experience. It presents problem-solving techniques for program development in PROLOG based on case analysis and the use of a toolkit of PROLOG techniques. The development of larger scale programs and the techniques for solving them using the methodology and tools described, through the presentation of several case studies of typical programming problems is also discussed. ... Editorial Review

Product Description
This book is an introduction to the Prolog language for those who have not yet used Prolog and want to find out how it works and also for those considering using it in a specific application. The book assumes no prior knowledge of Prolog and very little knowledge of other computer languages. The authors have deliberately produced a short text in order to give the reader a good feeling for the language. The book is divided into two parts. Part One, Prolog Programming, explains the basic concepts incorporated into almost all implementations of Prolog. Part Two, Projects, demonstrates examples and areas in which Prolog shows itself in the best light. A chapter on operators is used to enable a meta level expert system to be developed. ... Product Description
Concurrent Prolog brings together for the first time descriptions of the major concurrent logic programming languages proposed so far for future parallel computer systems. In particular, it describes the concurrent logic programming language Flat Concurrent Prolog, a comprehensive and radical approach to parallel computing that is based on a simple foundation. After surveying recent research in concurrent logic programming languages, these two volumes address all of the relevant aspects of constructing such a parallel computer system. They investigate how systems programming and the implementation of parallel algorithms can be carried out with this language; how advanced program development techniques can be applied; how to embed other high-level languages in it; and how to implement this language efficiently on sequential and parallel computers. The results of these investigations suggest that Flat Concurrent Prolog can serve as a general-purpose high-level machine language for parallel computers.Ehud Y. Shapiro is Senior Scientist, Department of Applied Mathematics, Weizmann Institute of Science. Concurrent Prolog is included in his Logic Programming series. Much of the research describe in the book was stimulated by the Fifth Generation project and cross-fertilization between the authors and ICOT. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a very very useful book for beginners.
The book is useful to everyone interested in the subject of Logic Programming. It contains all aspects of Logic Programming in a clear and highly comprehensive manner. The concepts of SLD-resolution, negation asfailure and many others have been presented so lucidly that a person withalmost no knowledge in the subject can read them like stories. I liked thechapter of hardware simulation very much. I strongly recommend the book atleast to those who have already made up their minds to switch to anothersubject. Readers may just look at the book once to verify my words. ... Read more
