This is a good book. The answers are right beside the questions. It has good material to study. I would recommend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Phonics, Phonemic Awareness, and Word Analysis for Teachers
Good reference for new teachers in early childhood education. Lesson samples and ideas are given. You will realize how complex the English language is. Even the structure of words are organized. They are not just simple alphabets and sight words.

3-0 out of 5 stars It was OK
Honestly, I felt this book was way pricey for what it was.The lessons are very basic and the letter cards you can make yourself on your own computer. The basic making words lessons you could truly come up with yourself seeing as they are word families, adding beginning or ending consonants. However, it does lay each lesson out for you so the thinking is done for you, and I do like the suggested read aloud books for each lesson. There are 50 lessons in the book, so that part is a plus.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I started using this when we got back from break and have noticed marked improvement in my students' ability to add and delete initial sounds and rhyme.I also have them write the words on dry erase boards. This really takes it to the next level. The only problem is the time consuming set up of making the letter necklaces.

I am a reading specialist, and our school is just beginning a new intervention program for phonics. This book is indispensable for teaching phonological awareness. It has loads of activities for all the "rungs on the ladder" of the phonemic awareness continuum. These include activities for:
Words in a Sentence, Syllables, Rhyming, counting phonemes, etc.Blackline masters for pictures, etc., used in the activities are included. It also includes activities for teaching phonics (phonological awareness does not include printed letters, but phonics does include print.)

4-0 out of 5 stars Large selection of ideas
What I love about this book is that it takes all of the ideas that I have found and puts them into one simple book. There is so much to choose from. You don't need a lot of reproducibles because it is designed so that the child creates the activities.I found the activities easy, cheap and fun.My daughter learns the letter the first day!I love the songs too.I am a past third grade teacher that is homeschooling preschool. This book is great!

This book is a cheap imitation of a book I found after I bought this one ("Letter of the Week" by the MAILBOX).It has very few reproducibles, and most of the ideas do not give many details.Forexample, for Letter Ait says"Learn about animals, antelope, alligators, and anteaters."

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE for teachers
This book is a great book. Short and quick read with much information in it that will help get some great ideas in your head for learning about print awareness students should have before coming to kindergarten. It's also great for using with students who do not have that connection on working with letters, words and all the beginning things that go with early learning.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun sing-a-long!
This flip chart comes with very catchy songs to familiar nursery rhyme tunes that my kids love! They know the tune, so it doesn't take long to learn the songs. Lots of rhyming too! Great way to learn the sounds of letters. My 4 and 5 yr old use it often and it was well worth the money!
Ex: (Tune: Ms Lucie had a Baby)
Hannah had the hiccups
hic hic hic hic hic hic
and all that hic hic hicupping made Hannah feel quite sick
her daddy didn't worry, he knew just what to do
to scare away her hiccups, he simply hollered BOO!

5-0 out of 5 stars ABC SingAlong
The product was just as expected.Love it and my daughter is using it in her classroom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD!
The letters of the alphabet come alive with these songs set to familiar tunes! The pages are printed on heavy-weight laminated paper, so you could use a dry erase marker to identify the target letter. I am very pleased with my purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST Alphabet song program!
Familiar tunes, fun and silly lyrics, very memorable and fun for kids. We have the book (which is also interactive) too, and got this for the preschool. We ordered another alphabet song product, it was terrible by comparison. This is the best!

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't love it, don't hate it
Item is ok.It really isn't what I was expecting, but it is decent for the price especially since it was quite a bit cheaper than what Scholastic offered it for.It says it builds phonemic awareness, but I think that might be stretching it.I guess I was expecting songs that reinforced the letter sounds. They don't do that. Helps with letter awareness, but not sure it does much beyond that. Each song is on a different track. Some are rather short and then you need to start them over to play it several times for your child to get the hang of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, skill based learning for your students!
The book offers hundreds of small group literacy activities that are based on where children are and where you want to take them. They realize that not all students are cookie cutter and address how to allow them all to grow by meeting them at their current level.I really enjoyed the book and am in the process of creating the activities to start using with small groups. The only down side is that you have to create all activities (cutting, coloring, laminating, etc), it would have been much easier to include full color activities.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too repetitive
Upon reading the previous reviews, I ordered this book.I feel that the activities are too repetitive. This may keep a younger child's interest for a few books - but after that I feel they would be bored.I have taught for 6 years in K-2 and I would not recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands-on phonemic awareness fun based on favorite books
This book enables you to teach phonemic awareness in a fun, interactive, hands-on way without taking a lot of extra time out of your curriculum. The "sound boards" are based on books we all read to our kids including:Where The Wild Things Are, The Snowy Day, Miss Nelson Is Missing, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, The Paper Bag Princess, Curious George, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Mrs. Wishy-Washy, Brown Bear, Brown Bear etc. After enjoying the read-aloud or shared reading, the class works with the sound board in a game-like way to practice sound matching with rhyming words, beginning sounds, ending sounds, vowel sounds, and more. The boards are adaptable to use with small groups or individuals of varying needs. They're great to use with older kids who need phonemic awareness practice, too.Everything you need is included in this book--ready-made, ready for you to copy and use.Experience phonemic awareness success with this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lessons Made Easy and Fun
As a teacher of twenty six years, I am excited and impressed by
Ms. Wagstaff's book on phonemic awareness.Lessons using her sound boards are easy, fun and provide immediate feedback.Teachers are able to assess and remediate quickly any student errors.Detailed directions and parent and volunteer letters help to make reinforcement an easy task. This is truly a book for every busy reading teacher, since it's concise, organized, informative and easy to use.I think it will change the way teachers teach. Parents will also enjoy sharing these activities with their child, since many of these books are on childrens' bookshelves or readily available. Most of all, this book is fun for everyone!!

In Making Words First Grade, Pat and Dottie introduce first grade teachers to100 lessons that teach all the phonics, spelling, and phonemic awareness skills included in most first grade curriculums. Each Making Words activity leads children through a systematic and sequential phonics curriculum. All lessons include practice with the phonemic awareness skills of segmenting and blending as children stretch out words they are making and blend the letters to make new words. Because teaching children letter-sound relationships is easier than teaching children to actually use these letter-sound relationships, all lessons include a transfer step in which children apply the sounds they are learning to spelling new words.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is whole language...Don't buy it.
Moving letters around does nothing for phonics and spelling memory. Please find a better way to teach phonology than this.Students need to write to remember. These activities activate some visual memory but not enough to help many children learn the skills.Remember whole language believes you don't need to teach reading.Kids just soak it up by looking at it.
