Product Description
How do divination systems work? Do they work? Can the interpretation of tarot cards, planetary alignments and numbers really help you achieve success and happiness? Many assume that such arts are just fortune telling, but according to the new book Divination: Sacred Tools for Reading the Mind of God, this is not the half of it. Author Paul O Brien explains how authentic divination systems can serve as a two-way communication with the divine faculty of intuition within us, whereby we can receive feedback that is meaningful and that helps us make the right moves at the right time. The book not only explains how divination systems work (according to the research of depth psychologist Carl Jung), it also details the history of the classical divination systems, the opposition of the church, the role that divination has played east and west including in the bible, and the online use of divination systems in modern times. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Addresses the wrong audience
I found this book to be such a dull read that I was unable to finish it. A lot of space is dedicated to convincing people that divination isn't condemned by the bible. But anyone who thinks that it is, wouldn't pick up this book.

As a long time reader of metaphysical books who owns tarot cards, runes and a scrying mirror, I found that there was very little of interest in this book for me. I wanted to like it and I just couldn't.

5-0 out of 5 stars O'Brien--Divine Decision-Making Revealed!
Where do you look for the 'correct' information to make your vital decisions in daily life? Do you look outward? Inward? Both? Paul O'Brien's book, Divination ~ Sacred Tools for Reading the Mind of God, provides a much-needed refreshment of our approach to living lives of wisdom through application of the divinatory arts. These resources of divination, still so often overlooked or mistrusted in superstitious times now far-removed from the spiritually awakening mind of modern man, are revitalized and given their proper places of honor as we deliberately determine our own destinies. Here O'Brien leads us through the history, the art, the technology, the education and the insightful utilization of these marvelous tools of divination.

"Authentic sources of esoteric wisdom support the intuitive side of our brain to help the overburdened logical side make better decisions more quickly. Divination systems make it possible for individuals to channel natural wisdom when they need it. As we shall see, the real purpose of authentic divination is not to predict the future, but rather to help us develop self-knowledge and to make better decisions in a timely manner."

This is a must-read for those pursuing the awakening of their consciousness! O'Brien opens the seeking and curious mind to an array of possiblities--to opening up to the mind of the God within--and to pick and choose from a full array of divinatory arts--our heritage and birthright. Don't miss this excellent read from the founder of [...]--an author a cut-above in the world of divination.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Divination" is a Gift
"Divination" has become an important book for me - one that I usually have close at hand in case I might benefit (again) by rereading parts of it, or run into someone else who might. What was most enjoyable and central for me is not even the concept of divination (as interesting and intriguing as it is), but the knowledge and perspective that author Paul O'Brien so effectively imparts in the early sections of his book. This extended introduction is meant to set the stage for his in-depth discussions of divination in later chapters. But it has done more than that for me and several of my friends.

In a conversational style consistent with his multi-dimensional background and evident interests in theology, philosophy, high tech business, and the human condition (e.g. politics, sustainability), O'Brien delivers a significant, well-written survey of various religions, which, he makes it easy to see, dovetail perfectly with his core topic. Some of his discourse has the familiar ring of "things I learned somewhere along the line," but it feels quite fresh and modern nonetheless. As a high-tech person myself, involved in the arts and music, and interested in philosophy, I could relate well to O'Brien's perspective, but had never before read anything quite like it. I have usually found such material tedious or uninspired, but here it never gets boring.Maybe what I enjoyed the most is how much you really get to know this very special person and his well-considered views by reading this.

There are many good things I could say about this book.It concisely imparts a lot of interesting and useful knowledge. It is fun to read - plenty of good humor and great stories. It is grounded in, and clearly related to, the real world.Perhaps most surprising, it made me interested in divination, as obviously is its stated intent.I don't yet know where I will take this new interest, but I'm sure I will take it somewhere in the future. It's probably already had an effect on me and I just don't know what it is yet!

In any event, O'Brien is clearly a wise person, with a lot to share about the subject of wisdom itself. He sometimes addresses the topic head-on with surprisingly direct sections like "Developing Wisdom" and "Belief Systems Need to Evolve."Encountering such a lead-in, you might think entrepreneurial success has gone to his head...but when you read on, no such thoughts will cross your mind.O'Brien has a deep respect - an abiding reverence - for what wisdom is, where it comes from, and how one finds it.At the heart of "Divination" is as eloquent a treatment as I have read of one of the most important and universally applicable philosophical concepts: how to determine what you can and cannot control, what you can and cannot know.In addition to his central theme of how divination plays into this, O'Brien does a wonderful job of explaining how one can embrace the unknowable without having to unnaturally give yourself up to it ("Blind Faith is a Learning Disability").

Like the best teachers, Paul O'Brien has a student's passion and enthusiasm, an appropriate level of humility, and a disarming way of explaining what turns out to be a timeless set of knowledge that everyone can use to great personal advantage.

5-0 out of 5 stars INTUITION RISING
Paul O'Brien's Divination: Sacred Tools for Reading the Mind of God is nothing less than a masterful Divinity tool kit!

In 231 riveting pages, O'Brien masterfully makes the ancient tools of divination (Tarot, Numerology, Astrology, Runes, I Ching) user-friendly, sharpening intuition and answering the profound personal questions we all share: "Why am I here? What is my purpose? What is my calling? What's the best approach to manifest my heart's special desire?"

Generous with his personal biography, supple with his quotes of famous teachers and seekers, and compassionate and insightful in his sharing of the transformative stories of others, O'Brien combines a world-class, philosophical intellect with historical acumen and spiritual insight.

This book succeeds in opening doors, lots of doors to the inner life where communion with the mind of God flowers. Eye-opening, mind-bending, joyfully surprising--all of these describe the experience of journeying with O'Brien through these inspiring pages. All spiritual seekers should treat themselves to this healing companionship. Get a copy for yourself, and more for those you work with and love!

5-0 out of 5 stars Some science too
I really enjoyed the story and Paul's weaving of epistemology, biography, history, psychology, a little politics & some good sense advice.Quite a bit of balancing. I especially appreciated the description of Jung and synchronicity.

Demystifying without lessening the Mystery. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars An Invaluable Aid for Students of Psychic Development
What do tea leaves, coffee grounds and yarrow sticks all have in common? For me, these are some of the ingredients to be found in my compost pile, however around the world they are used like tarot cards, crystal balls and cowrie shells as instruments of divination - the act of foreseeing or foretelling future events.
The sections of this book on `Character Reading' are NOT why I am recommending it. In fact, reading these chapters makes me happy that society has evolved over the second half of the last century. I try to keep in mind that the author (who wrote sections of this book between 1925 and 1940) was a product of his culture and writing at a time when Eugenics was a popular notion, science was still trying to qualify the superiority of light-haired, light-skinned Europeans over the swarthier races and colonialism was still in full-swing. I don't mean to completely discredit these final chapters of the book - we are actually offered some interesting insights on body language; the importance of eye movement, quality of voice, handshakes and handwriting as useful indexes of character.
The portions of this book that holds up over time can be found in the first several chapters which describe the process of divination. Zain touches on the practical value of foreseeing future events, how time-space relativity permits precognition, the faculties of the Soul, and why prejudice continues to exist against divination.
From divining rods to pendulums the author reveals that `psycho-kinesis' is at work. This is the power of the subconscious mind or soul to impact physical substance and bring information to the conscious mind. This eleventh course in the Brotherhood of Light series answers the `how' and `why' astrology and divination work and is an invaluable aid for students of astrology and psychic development. ...
