Reiki Info at Its Best
I am a Reiki Master/Teacher and have many reiki books but this is one of the best. I appreciate the clarification of reiki history and will certainly benefit from the plethora of self healing data. I was so impressed with Bronwen and Frans Stiene that I purchased "The Reiki Sourcebook by them.

This book will enlighten you with up to date information on Reiki, Mikao Usui, and much more long with wonderful illustrations. This is a must have book along with The Reiki Resource Book by the Stienes. I could go on forever telling everyone about this book, in short EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST ONE COPY OF THIS BOOK!

Getting back to the roots of Reiki
I have been a Reiki practitioner for over a decade. Am an Usui Tibetan Reiki Master as well as a Karuna Reiki Master. For the past year or so, I felt as though something was missing- and that there was more to Reiki than what I had learned. I had been introduced to the 'hands on' aspect of traditional Reiki techniques over a year ago, but still had this nagging 'knowingness' that there was more to discover. A friend of mine recommended this book, and after reading it, I believe it contains the answers I was looking for. The disillusionment I had been experiencing with Western styles, and the 'emptiness' of the techniques now have a solid foundation and explanation. This book opens up the possibility for a personal journey and transformation that you will not find through the techniques taught in the West, and I highly recommend it.

Karuna Book is super... Seller service still hasn't delivered
This is the ultimate book on Karuna Reiki.I know this because I already owned it and was purchasing another for a student.It is well written and thorough. My disappointment is not with the product but rather with the lack of response from the seller and we are approaching the one month mark.

A well written resource, best read after a Karuna Reiki course
My first review was kind of negative and a bit unfair, because I was not ready for this book yet. I purchased it a few months before taking the Karune Reiki training. I was disappointed that there were no Karuna symbols in the book, as they were readily available from a variety of online sources. I now understand the reasoning for it.

I was privileged to attend a Karuna Reiki Master Retreat in Sedona this Summer. I got this book out again beforehand to re-read it, and was surprised to see how much better it flowed for me a year after being attuned to the Karuna energies. Laurelle is truly a gifted Reiki teacher and writer. Her Karuna toning is nothing less than incredible, as is her work with Angelic realms.

I highly encourage people to purchase this book, with the caveat that you should have the appropriate level of development to be able to truly take it in. Congratulations to Laurelle on a great book.

I love Everything about this book
I must admit that I already was a fan of the 'Everything Books' before I ordered this one. I first fell in love with the "The Everything Christmas Book". So, I knew that I would would be completely satisfied with "The Everything Reiki Book" as well and I was.

Big Disappointment
I had put this book on my wishlist, and I got it for Christmas this year, and I have read a significant amount of the book and I have to say it is a disappointment. It is mostly about being new age, and not enough about Reiki, which makes the title misleading. Besides that, it seems as though the author got paid by the page, so she wrote page after page of new age vagueness. I have perused reiki books at the bookstore which were much more informative than this, and some were much smaller. I am not proud of being critical, and even less so of making assumptions about the book or author, but this book really has been a big disappointment to me. I read and read and kept wishing for my fears to be that the author was only warming up, but in reality, up to where I am in the book, and as for each page ahead which I have scanned, it is filled with vagueness and so far I don't see much practical use in this book. Perhaps I am writing this review as a warning because I put this book on my wishlist after reading the warm reviews and I feel let down very much. ... Read more

Clear, Simple and Powerful
This book is the most clearly written, uncluttered sharing of Reiki that I have found. Beliefs added to the simple, powerful Reiki experience serve to confuse readers.Barb adds fewer beliefs and her sharing is distilled from years of practical experience.How can one learn to play music without playing music?Same with Reiki--get attuned and start doing it!

Barb includes drawings of the symbols.Once one is attuned to them, the symbols are each a sort of switch in spirit that allows one to flow energy effortlessly.Barb explains from beginner through Reiki Master Trainer and includes step-by-step attunement instructions.An attunement is the energetic sharing of a gift.In the case of Reiki, one's energy body is opened and balanced so that non-discordant healing energy flows easily.The energy can be shared with self and others and attunements don't wear out.What a deal!

My Reiki I and II attunements were shared in person, an option I always recommend as first choice. However, my Reiki III/Master attunement was shared across time and distance by Barb and our spirit guides. I felt them attuning me as I watched the video and my energy flow opened and strengthened immediately. Mikao Usui was attuned by our spirit family as a gift to renew simple human energetic healing and spirit can gift any of us regardless of time or distance. Only personal beliefs can limit such a gift from spirit.As spirits ourselves, we can also gift each other across time and distance.

Highly recommended
I have been studying Reiki for several years, but have been unable to afford the outlandish prices many Reiki Masters charge for attunement.I received the attunements from this book.I felt them as I read the words of each attunement, and have felt a significant boost in energy with each attunement.I now use Reiki to heal myself and my family.Reiki is a universal energy that is available to everyone, and I think it is only human ego that supports the idea that one must have a guru or master in our presence to learn this powerful healing system.

good stepping stone
I liked that it offers the option of a "Home Attunement."It was the first of its kind that I've seen to offer video courses along with its book... although, the video is not as accessible- you can't really by it in stores and I'm not sure if it comes in DVD format, as others I've come across.

I DEFINETLY recomend this book to those who have time to order and watch the vids.I know it can bennefit many.

A truly generous gift of healing
Having read a couple of books on Reiki, I was a little frustrated about the clandestine approach to passing on what is supposedly guniversal healingh.And given one is led to believe that Reiki attunements can only be successfully passed on person to person, I was a bit dubious about the claims of Barbara Emerson to be able to offer these via her book and/or videos.But with an open heart and mind I did the first attunement from the instructions in her book-and I was very impressed with the results.I do healing similar to Reiki, and found after the attunement that my hands were much more sensitive to the energy of another person and could give healing with stronger energy than before.I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in starting Reiki or other forms of healing using the hands.Barbara Emerson, thank you for your generosity of healing spirit.

my favorite reiki book
i really enjoyed this book a lot. it feels like barbara is discussing reiki with me personally. the book is down to earth, very informative. i also have two of the videos barbara offers, but so far i've only played one. it was great, i could feel the energy flow. if it were not for this book, i doubt that i'd have searched deeper into this healing method. now i want to go as far as i can in this field. thanks to barbara. ... My first Reiki Book
This was the first book I got on Reiki and I LOVE it. The writer seems like a good person who genuinely wants to help people. He gives some history of Reiki, and theory. Very good book. Easy to understand and fun. Everyone should have this book!

Need Updating
In the past, certain things like the Reiki symbols are kept secret, so like this one, they're never mentioned. This book needs updating.

A complete miss
The book has a lot of filler. For example, the whole third is dedicated to the history of Reiki and the author's own path.
But my main complaint is that you can't learn Reiki from it. The author states that to be able to use Reiki, you must first be go through the process called "attunement" and you need to attend a Reiki course to do that (or find a Reiki Master to get you through it). Supposedly, this process will open you up to Reiki energy and then (and only then) you will be able to use it for healing. How is it then "for beginners"? ... Read more

Amazing book!
For many years I have heard people speak of Reiki but never fully understood it.This easy to read book explains all you need to know about Reiki.I highly recommend this book to everyone.It will open your mind to the incredible healing energy power we all have within us.

A Good Starter Book
The drawings in the book are beautiful and do convey the spirit of Reiki.The chapter on the possible emotional or metaphysical causes of a disease is speculative and suggestive, but it is not meant to be otherwise.I did find the allergy interpretation to be useful for me and it actually worked.Between Vitamin C, becoming vegan, and doing emotional processing with their idea of what the cause was, my allergies are 99 percent gone.The authors do align with the idea that Usui was in a Christian seminary for some time.This seems unverified by those who have tried to find out more about this, but it was a common interpretation that was given out by many Reiki teachers.My own sense is that he had more involvement with Shingon Buddhism but kept much of this to himself.All in all, it is a nice book that gives a feeling for the Reiki work.I have been an energy healer for about 25 years and a Reiki Master for over 10 years and would feel good about a person reading this book.I feel that the charcoal pencil drawings in the book are particularly beautiful and convey a lot about how Reiki feels and how it could be practiced.

This was the first book I had read on Reiki back in 1991 , not everything in the book is to my taste especially some of the medical explanation however this book sparkedmy wish to learn Reiki and I have been a Reiki Master now for 15 years.I recommend this book to beginners and just keep in mind you take from it what inspires you the most and run with it and the rest won't matter.

A great start
I was sad to read some of the negative comments about this book. I am a Reiki Master attuned to the Usui System of Natural Healing in accordance with the Usui Shiki Ryoho tradition. I was very happy with the contents of this book. The chapters are specific and to the point. Bodo and Shalila give an assortment of possible metaphysical reasons for physical manifestation of illness and dis ease. It is important to note, that this information should be used as a reference tool and not the absolute. I always recommend clients look within to connect with their emotional and physical struggles. We each have the ability to heal ourselves. But Reiki is a wonderful tool in guidance of obtaining health. I highly recommend this book along with Diane Stein's, Essential Reiki a complete guide to an ancient healing art.

We need more cowbell!!!
It is perhaps a sign of things to come when the most interesting thing one ponders about a book is whether the authors' names are pseudonyms not so vaguely disguised and borrowed from J.R.R. Tolkien(think Frodo Baggins and Saruman). However, the spirit communicated by Reiki: Universal Life Energyis gentle, mild, and peaceful...and that is a real plus that can't be emphasized enough. The tenderness with which Baginski and Sharamon write about reiki speaks volumes about their sincerity both as reiki practitioners and as writers. However, there are perhaps three glaring and unfortunate flaws in their efforts.

The first problem in this work was the chapter regarding reiki history. The authors relay the well-known story of Usui as a Christian minister and scholar who studied in the US. More recent research into the life of Usui suggests that this might not be the case. More problematic however, is the author's complete failure to mention Usui's life-long practice of Buddhist meditation or his extensive studies in both Tendai and Zen Buddhist traditions. Of course, while it is possible in Buddhism to be both Buddhist and another faith, such as Christian; the authors have completely failed to mention the Buddhist aspects of Usui's life and practice.

The second flaw of Reiki: Universal Life Energy is found in the chapters that relate to reiki in a professional context, specifically the suggestions regarding medical and legal issues for the reiki practitioner. The reader should be forewarned to scrutinize these chapters carefully as some of the advice would appear to open liability issues

Finally, the authors adopt literalist concretisms in chapters regarding "the meaning of illness." In other words, the authors posit every illness with a well-defined meaning, such as "Deafness: Only people who have closed themselves off to their inner voice for a long time become deaf." Clearly then, one would have to assess responsibility, and therefore blame, for the illness on the patient.While one might successfully argue that karma and the extent to which a patient has generated that karma may result in their present illness, it is highly doubtful that anyone could accurately determine the specific karma that caused the illness, much less advocate a generalization such as quoted. In point of fact, such generalizations are more likely to be considered offensive.

These flaws overwhelm what would otherwise be a fine book. The chapters exploring the techniques of Reiki and their application are numerous and quite insightful. Nonetheless, this reader is unable to recommend this particular work, especially when there are so many up-to-date publications that reach the same fine points ofReiki:Universal Life Energy while avoiding it's pitfalls. ... Insightful book

a book ahead of its time
The Reiki Magic Guide To Self Attunement is ahead of its time. Some people may not fully grasp the powerful healing techniques Mr. Bevell has discovered. But then again, people used to tell Columbus that the world is flat before he proved otherwise. If you actually perform the techniques outlined in this book, you will find that Mr. Bevell's ideas are truth. If you are open to new possibilities, then this book is for you, taking Reiki into realms few have even imagined.

Not the whole story..
As a Reiki Master myself, I would say ok to this book about some general information.If you have been attuned before, then this is overall ok to do. But if you have not, he has misled you with giving the symbols, (not correctly) to make you think you have all the information.
First and foremost you should attend a class, not everyone must pay for these classes, it is an energy for energy payment system.Ask someone in your area.. discounts are often given, it just depends on where and who you know.

This book was of no help to me...and it is misleading.I do not suggest you purchase this book.But rather you keep looking, as it is not smiled upon to actually print the sacred symbols in public text.Go to [...], and purchase the actual manual, which does NOT cost alot and seek out someone you know or have found, they can teach you the information and experience you seek.

Wealth of awesome information for using Reiki
This book is wonderful.I found amazing and inspirtational and great ways to use Reiki for all sorts of things.Since Reiki comes from the Creator (God for me) it is limitless and so should the ways in which you can use Reiki.Brett thinks outside the box which is what we all need.He has done amazing work with Reiki and been given the wisdom to use it so many wonderful and healing ways.This book is a work of love, inspiration and guidance and anyone using it to work with Reiki and our Creator will have a wonderful and powerful Reiki healing for everyone and everything which is the way it should be.Wonderful book I recommned highly and will keep and use faithfully in my practice of Reiki.A book no Reiki practice or practitioner should be without for sure.Thank you Brett for the wonderful work and energy you put into this book and thank you God for inspiring Brett to do your wonderful healing work.

Reiki Handbook
This is a great book for beginners. I use this book as a teaching guide for my Reiki 1 classes. It gives great information and has helpful pictures and a reference section in the back of the book to help with specific conditions.

A historical view into early western Reiki
For what it is, this is a nice little guide. Although we now know the historical information to be incorrect, and despite some misspellings of names (such as "Hyashi" in lieu of "Hayashi"), this is one of the earliest books published on the Usui System of Healing in the US. Both authors were students of Virginia Samdahl, the very first person to be acknowledged as having received master training from Takata. That alone makes this book interesting to all who seek further insight into those early days.

Although I would reccomend taking some of the stories shared with a grain of salt, there are a few nice illustrations of the effectiveness of Reiki in various situations.

There are illustrations of hand positions, space for personal commentary and journaling, and techniques that Takata taught her students, such as the "Reiki Finish." While such a technique really is not intended for use in all situations or by everyone (since it does come too close to massage and may also intrude upon clients' personal space), it is an adaptation that Takata made to Hayashi-sensei's ketsueki kokan ho (literally "bloood exchange method"), a coporal manipulation intended to restore proper circulation of not only ki, or life force, but also blood.

Since Mrs. Samdahl never published her own works, it is nice to delve into the works of her students to see how the first western Reiki teacher practiced. Given this context, as well as an understanding of the revelations about Reiki's factual history, this is a great book.

The illustrations are great and easy to understand.

This book starts with misconceptions and lies about Usui Mikao and goes downhill from there. It has managed to sift through all facts on Reiki keeping only the legends, myths and lies of both Usui (NOT "Dr. Usui") and the schools that arose from his teachings. This is a "must have book" for EVERYONE who does Reiki.
I was absolutely thrilled to get all the information the book offered.
There is so much of the REAL history of Reiki.
I gained valuable information, and it has brought me a better understanding and appreciation for Reiki.
So,of all the "many books I have on the subject"(and that is a large amount),
this book, "Living Reiki; Takata's Teachings" is my very favorite!

I do not recommend this book
The information given by this book is very poor and the latest earch on Master Mikao Usui says that he was not a catholic priest. It does not matter the region orientation of Mr. Usui but if that information is not correct, how can one trust the rest of the book? Reiki has nothing to do with religion and it it a very beautiful way to connect with the entire universe. Try it!

Great general overview
This book is a fantastic overview of the foundations of Usui System of Reiki.It is easily read, and covers the general principles.I highly reccommend this to anyone who wants to learn about Reiki's beginnings.

It is nice to have this book just to be in touch with the Master, in some way. But do not expect to learn much from it.

Original traditions of Reiki for Total Beginners
I had never heard of Reiki until an advanced Amdahl computer science student of mine demonstrated it for me during a class lab in 1997. I was intrigued.The student told me he was a Level 2 Reiki Student and that onebecame a Level 1 Reiki Student after only one weekend class. So, I searchedthrough the San Jose CA public library and found that Reiki Classes taughtby Ms. Fran Brown were in a nearby town.I went and found that Ms. Brownwas using "Living Reiki: Takata's Teachings" as the finalteaching tool in her weekend class.This book makes the most sense if onehas just recently attended (or will be attending) a Reiki class taught by alive instructor. According to the book, Reiki was "re-discovered"by a Christian seminary professor in Japan during the late 19th century. This professor (Dr. Usui Sensei) was asked by his students to be taught howJesus did His "laying on of the hands" miracles.Dr. Ursui didnot know, but promised to study the question.He did this for the nextseveral years. Dr. Ursui taught many students over the years and chose Dr.Chujira Hayask to carry on the work.At Dr. Chujira's death, he chose Mrs.Hawayo H. A great and valuable resource.
This book is a spritual treat.Packed with info on Reiki and plenty of perspectives on the spiritual plight of us humans, I find it a great resource to pick up on many occasions when I may be 'stuck'.Dr. Karyn Mitchell offers a thorough and detailed account of Reiki and its' principles, including charts and photos, as well as healing mantras.This book is a gift I recommend with great confidence and joy.

Poorly written
I've used this book in some of my Reiki training classes, and though the information is good, it is badly in need of editing. I've also learned, since reading some of Frank Arjava Petter's books, that Mitchell's history of Reiki is not entirely accurate.

It is amateurishly written and edited, though I have found much of the information useful.

One of the best books on Reiki
One of the better books on the healing methods of traditional Reiki,written by Master-Teacher Karyn Mitchell, Ph.D., N.D., of the HawayoTakata-Iris Ichitaro lineage. The author is a Doctor of Naturopathy, apsychologist, and certified teacher of hypnotherapy, as well as a ReikiPractitioner and Master-Teacher of Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki and Tera MaiReiki.

When my guides called me to take the Reiki training, I didn't evenknow what it was. They just kept hammering at me to "DO THISTHING". I set out to find out just what Reiki was all about. I readabout a dozen books on Reiki, but this one book stood out. It was basic,clearly written, pragmatic yet with recognition of the more esotericaspects of Reiki. Karyn has written several other books on Reiki, but thiswas her first and remains the introductory text for her Reiki classes.

This book is a wonderful read as well as a reference for various meditations and Reiki knowledge. I bought it when it first came out and still keep it handy near my Reiki table. Karyn inspired me to move ahead onmy path to healing others through Reiki. I also am blessed to have metKaryn and have experienced Reiki treatments though her, before buying thisbook. I bought this book because it had a beautiful cover! Not the most ideal way to purchase something, but in this case I am so glad I did.

Visionary Healing
I have been initiated into two different lineages of Reiki: one with the Reiki Alliance. If you would have asked me twenty years ago what I think of the paradigm this author is offering based on his own witness to the events he purports to represent, I would have laughed it off.

Today, I find these emerging visionary paradigms to be transforming the world. The book is not only good, it is transformative. As I started to use the self initiation practices some rather astonishing things happened which took me over the threshold into mystical states of consciousness. The author knows of what he speaks. I have always believed in chance encounters, including why a certain book comes into our lives at a certain time. My guess is that these encounters act as portals for our spiritual growth and development.

It has now become clear to me that consciousness is working through the dissemination of ideas and spiritual wisdom can be transmitted outside of esoteric schools and teachers. What remains clear is that books like this are at the forefront of planetary transformation. That is not to assert that one need accept the claims made about every book one finds on the shelf, because surely there are as many fraudulent claims as there are true. As such, there will always be as many frauds who try to profit off of the emerging spiritual paradigms that are ubiquitous today. Rest assured, this book is not one of those.

The author also urges those who use these initiations by 'paying it forward' by taking up some form of volunteer work in your community as payment for the initiations he offers. I would highly recommend that you follow his advice. It will integrate the material and the intensity of the energy you are receiving.

This book is by far the best book on spiritual Reiki healing you will find on the market today. And the scope of its merit is known by its inclusive empowerment outside of the hegemony of organizations.If you are ready for this material, the book will find you.

Spiritual healing on the deepest of levels
This is a must have book for anyone on the healing path.I have been a reiki master for 10+ years and thought I had seen all that reiki has to offer, but Brett Bevell's book changed everything. I've had this book for 3 months now and my own healing and spiritual growth have ascended in ways that I thought would have taken years to achieve.

On a personal note, I recently had an infection in a tooth that was causing a great deal of pain.I used the techniques he describes for manifesting reiki grids, and manifested a reiki grid of tachyon energy in my mouth and tooth.In 10 minutes the pain was 90% gone, and within an hour it was completely healed.No more infection or pain.

If you want to accelerate your own spiritual healing at the deepest of levels you owe it to yourself to give this book a read.

Fantastic Book
Steve's set of books and the two DVD's that go along with his Reiki Master program are invaluable for the Reiki Practitioner. The Reiki Master Attunement DVD gave me a true attunement, enhancing my healing abilities. Steve's books, Reiki the Ultimate Guide, Ultimate Guide Vol 2, Ultimate Guide Vol 3, Ultimate Guide Vol 4, and Reiki Beliefs Exposed For All are fabulous and filled with a wealth of information. His DVD, A Reiki 1st, Aura and Chakra Attunement Preformed, is an excellent companion to the books demonstrating the actual processes of performing attunements. I will use this set again and again as reference along my path of Reiki healing.

I have finally read Steve Murrays Animal Psychic book.I have found it to be helpful in my practice.I have used the technique with great success.Have used it on dogs,birds,and cats.His simple to understand method was easy to put into practice.I recommend this book to those who are looking for a way to communicate with animals on a higher level of understanding.It will open up intuitive two way communication,and the animals seemed calmer during the process. Worth the price just for the pictures and chakra locations.
I haven't even finished reading the book, but I did page through until the end. The chakra locations for many animals in itself is priceless. The pictures showing chakra locations and how to do balancing etc. is also great. Wonderful book as I am looking to continue my current Reiki healing of animals. This is a fantastic "how to" that is easy to understand and follow.

An animals lovers must!!
Since my first attunement many years ago, I have been looking for answers about reiki. Even after becoming a reiki master, the questions remained. Either due to secrecy, or they themselves just didn't know. Since I was a young boy I have always wanted to know more about becoming a healer. Excellent Book on the Reiki Principles
I'm a new Reiki practitioner and was very blessed to find this book.Amy Z. Reiki for the Heart and Soul
Amt Rowland is both a superb writer and a superb Reiki teacher. And the combination makes for a read that is both wonderful, and also informative. Reiki doesn't "boil down" to nothing more than technique and hand positions - yes - the method and the practice of the method are important - but the intention and the connection are important. Amy pulls it all together - the history, the practice and the heart and soul.

This is a wonderful book for those interested in Reiki as a spiritual path and want suggestions along the way.
The author's writing style is clear and one can feel her love for Reiki.I appreciated her comments on how to further use the symbols.

Love it!

The secrets of healing revealed

Great reference book for Reiki Masters
This book is a valuable reference tool for those planning to teach about Reiki. Something about the way that Ellyard writes strikes a cord with me; it rings true. This book is a bit advanced for beginners. I would recommend it for master teachers, rather than levels one and two. Ellyard writes from the point of view of a traditional Usui Reiki Master and a practicing Buddhist.

Excellent
This is the most balanced and comprehensive book on Reiki I've ever read. The author presents a wide sweeping introduction on the various Reiki Lineages including the political dynamics undergirding the various splits along the way showing what happens when human ego enters the picture and the various polarities give rise to differences.

In Western Reiki, Takata Sensi is largely attributed with the dissemination in the West. The author asserts that Takata initiated 22 Masters who later met following her death and began to share stories of their training. What they discovered is dissimilarities with the information. They then tried to unify the system through consensus which further led them to elect a lineage holder. Mrs. Takada's granddaughter was elected but not without challenge. This led to a split in loyalties splitting Reiki further. But the author also notes and lists in his book numerous Reiki lineages.

What evolved in Reiki is not an uncommon outcome in many other forms of healing or martial arts. Take for example the split after Ida Rolf died leading to the formation of other lineages of Rolfing, or the split in Aikido following the death of O Sensi leading to further fragmentation in the art. These are but two small examples of the political underpinnings shaping original Art forms when human ego enters the picture.

As a Reiki practioner, I find it regrettable that various lineages hold that they represent the 'one' and 'ture' Reiki and that others are only flawed versions from the original root.

It is most likely that Dr. Usui taught people in different ways and perhaps added new components as he grew in the Art. If this is indeed the case, than all lineages contain some aspects of the truth of Reiki. What we need is a unified openness to abridge the various lineages to ascertain what is original with Usui for the sake of an integral approach.

I think the author brings sensitivity and insight in this regard.

Do NOT mistake this for Reiki.
Rainbow "Reiki" is not Reiki at all, but a deep delve into the paranormal, including 'work' with entities and activities such as channeling. Majick (note spelling) has its place, but should never be included in the work/description of Reiki, nor vice-versa. The 'new' trend is to twist healing and spirituality itself into an attempt at beginning yet another religion. Rainbow "Reiki" adamantly defies (among many) a most basic tenet of REAL Reiki; that it is not associated with ANY religious practice/belief (e.g., that entities be invoked, or that other mannerisms/stances/tools/utterances are ritually performed). Such actions simply are not Reiki-related. Rainbow "Reiki" purports to be spiritually-guided (which in itself is not incorrect), but BY such as spirit 'guides' or even angels (a gross misrepresentation of spirituality). TRUE Reiki's UNIVERSAL nature allows it to be experienced/practiced by even the most devout Atheist or subscriber to ANY religionalike, as well as seamlessly with the professional health field; realms in which the 'spirits' and other practices of Rainbow 'Reiki' have neither place nor welcome. If you or a friend want to learn about REAL Reiki, this is NOT the book for you.

Rainbow Reiki
Rainbow Reiki is based upon the tradition form of Reiki, from the Usui System of teaching. Thus, the basic precepts, teachings, and attunements from this system are essentially the same as virtually any other Usui Reiki based system.

Beyond these foundational precepts, Rainbow Reiki system includes a variety of additional resources. Some of the most interesting aspects of this work included in depth information on aura and chakra work; the layouts of environmental or crystal mandalas; how to work with subtle beings; and the use of Reiki essences. It should be noted that this work is not a complete course guide for Rainbow Reiki. Instead, this text serves as a way to deepen the meaning and expand upon these original teachings.

Although not trained or attuned to this particular system of Reiki, I found Rainbow Reiki to be a very useful resource and pertinent to my own light work. Likely, this is due to the fact that I have been trained in the foundations of other Usui based traditions. Thus, I have no qualms about recommending this book to anyone with traditional Reiki training.

If you are not a Shaman...
This book by Lubeck is great. Those of us that know little about Shamanism are sure to be trilled with the innovative techniques that Lubeck offers. Since the beggining of the book Lubeck gives out warnings in the matter of practicing the techniques and outlines every single one of them step by step so that any body with the minimal qualifications may practice them, outlining this kind of techniques is a big responsability and Lubeck stays at the heigth of the situation. It may be a little hard for those not used to reading academic books but is still a blast for your Reiki practice. All those that have read and use some of those techniques will agree with me that this book is a must have for any Reiki Master.

A wealth of wisdom and of technique
Rainbow Reikiby Walter Lubeck sets forth with the intent, according to the subtitle, of"expanding the reiki system with powerful spiritual abilities."This amazingly short, at 175 pages,text extensively explores the vast expanse of rainbow reiki technique and application.This thorough examination of the topic will prove beneficial to the reader with only minimal difficulty.

Walter Lubeck , a Reiki Master and author of several books, including The Complete Reiki Handbook, Reiki--Way of the Heart, and others, is the founder and director of the Reiki-Do Institute. He has developed rainbow reiki as a means of incorporating additional alternative healing modalities, such as channelling, astral travel, reiki essences, and others, into synergistic combination with reiki healing. As a synergism of the parts, this expanded reiki method promises to supply the practitioner with a wide range of potent techniques.

Most Reiki practitioners will probably feel quite comfortable within the world of Rainbow Reiki.Lubeck is quite thorough in detailing both the history of Usui reiki and the development of rainbow reiki. The prerequisites for performing the techniques he offers are explained in great detail. As the reader moves forward through the text, she will find chapter after chapter rich with techniques, ranging from aura and crystal techniques to uses of mandalas and power vortices...and much, much more. Perhaps few will be able or inclined to use or master all that is offered in this book; but everyone is sure to come away from reading it with at least a few new practices to add to their repertoire.

The difficulties with Rainbow Reiki are minimal. Stylistically, Rainbow Reiki is written in a somewhat dry, academic tone that some readers may find difficult to endure. Nonetheless, perseverence will reap rewards for the diligent reader.The only other point of issue is that Reiki I practitioners may feel left out since most of the practices of the book are specifically directed for use by more advanced reiki practitioners.This need not be the case, however, if the Reiki I reader uses this book to spur them on to advancement to higher levels and as a means of familiarizing themselves with some ofthe practices that await them as they advance.

In conclusion, Rainbow Reiki, though moderately difficult to read, is well worth the effort for the sheer wealth of techniques so extensively explained in its pages.Few, if any, other books are available to explore the world of reiki and specifically rainbow reiki in such breadth and depth

Castaneda goes Reiki
As I wrote in the title - Castaneda goes Reiki - and this is simply putShamanism combined with Reiki. Here you'll find descriptions of how tocreate and communicate with power places and spirits, and how to use Reikifor paintings, how to make the author's Reiki essences and his opinions onhow to use crystals and pendulums in different ways with Reiki. There's notmuch "new" or revolutionary ideas in this book, but you'lldefinitely get a nice and entertaining moment of reading. The book will inthe best cases awaken your old, forgotten and hidden knowledges and in theworst cases you'll fall asleep since there are some pointers and warningsthat is repeated which seems a little bit unnecessary. ... Excellent Resource for Young People
I ordered this in hopes of finding a useful resource for teaching Reiki to young people who are interested in receiving Reiki I and Reiki II attunements. I was not disappointed.

Some might not agree with the inclusion of the 3 symbols appearing in such a resource. Personally, I wish they had not been included along with material for those learning Reiki I. Efforts to keep them secret are futile. These symbols are now everywhere. There is no sense trying to lock the barn door after the horse has already escaped. However, I feel exposure to the symbols can cause undo confusion to expose people to them before they can use them after the Reiki II attunement.

One way around this would have been to publish this work in two separate resources, one for each level. The authors could have easily done this and charged double for each one. I appreciate the value of including both levels for the price of this resource.

I think this is a wonderful resource and will be using it with my young students (and some of the older ones as well).

Bought this book as a Christmas present for my grandkids.It was all I imagined when I flipped through.Can't wait to read through it with them and help them really put their Reiki to good use.They are 6 & 7 years old and both received Reiki Level II information and attunements from me.When I can afford it, I plan to purchase 2 more identical books.

Great Empowerment Tool for Kids!
This updated verison offers a great overview of energy healing that will appeal to kids and adults!This handbook is comprehensive, yet concise.The photgraphs are a very helpful visual guide for the new Reiki student. The book includes information on healing yourself, others and even distant healing.There are chapters on chakras, mediatation and aura clearing. I particualry like how the authors introduce the readers to these other areas and how Reiki can positively impact so many aspects of our lives.I imagine this guide could be quite helpful to children who have most likely been effected by the energy of others and not known what is occuring or how to help themselves.This really is an empowering,guide for children and a great introduction to energy healing for anyone!

Great introduction!
I found Children's Reiki Handbook by Pamela and Robert Yarborough to be a concise yet thorough introduction to the Usui healing system of Reiki.It's perfect for children and young adults--both those who already know something about Reiki and those who've never been exposed to it.The text is clear and well-written.The photographs are beautifully done and make it easy for a young person (or adult!) to learn the various hand positions for healing.

My two children, ages 9 and 11, are Level 2 Reiki practitioners, and both enjoyed the Yarboroughs' book.It's also a handy little book of basics for an adult!

A good basic introduction
I picked up this book knowing little more about Reiki than the name. I knew that Reiki was some form of healing energy and that you used your hands but how and why it works were a mystery to me.

This slim book is an easy read and despite its limited number of pages (44) a very thorough introduction to the history and practice of Reiki. If your older child shows a leaning toward learning healing skills and knowledge you will both benefit from this handbook.

The book starts out with an explanation of the history of Reiki and what exactly it is. A further chapter describes the life energy associated with Reiki practice, where the charkas are and what area of the body they govern. There is a brief explanation of auras and the colors associated with certain personality types. The book then gets into the meat of its subject with instruction and photographs to bring the seeker into First Level Attunement.

Once the child has attained First Level the next section of the book shows with more photography and explanation how to use this new level of healing awareness to heal. The final chapters include meditations and the admonition to practice to become ready for attunement to higher Reiki Levels.

I found the book to be very basic. As an adult I still have questions about Reiki, but a child should get quite a lot out of this book when accompanied by the help of an attuned adult. I tried to get my own 11 year old to look at the book to give me her opinion of it, but she was not interested enough to do more than glance at the cover and ask what Reiki was. This being the case, I would strongly advise getting this book only for children who have already expressed an interest in learning Reiki. The information is presented in a textbook as opposed to anecdotal way and does require that there be a previous interest in the material.
