Product Description
At twenty-six, aspiring novelist Avis Copley intends to wear spinsterhood as a badge of honour. But when she discovers a volume of erotica that ignites a searing fire within her, Avis realizes just how much she doesn't know about the actual pleasures of the flesh. Determined to learn more, she devises a daring plan...Avis chooses Emory Billingsworth, a fellow novelist - not to mention a beautiful specimen of manhood - to instruct her in carnal pleasure. But when the brash earl of Selby, Banning Talbot, a man she has known for years, unearths Avis' true intentions, he claims she's made a dangerously bad choice. Volunteering his services for one wicked night of reckless, abandoned passion, Banning promises he will satisfy all of her deepest longings. Yet, Banning cannot begin to imagine the effect his wilful, voluptuous, and very eager student will have on him - or how far an innocent lesson in desire can go. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A heartwarming chase for love.
Loved this book and have recommended it often.

Avis Copley is an independent woman, who aspires to be a successful writer.Due to her distaste for marriage due to her parent's relationship, she wants nothing to do with the tradition. However, she does want to know the basic physical act of marriage in order to have accurate research in the subject.Avis devises a plan to have a tryst with a colleague, Emory Billingsworth.

Avis tells her friends about this plan, and although shocked they go along with Avis' plan, that is except for Sophia, who has special talent for insight.Sophia goes to Banning Talbot, the Earl of Selby, who is the brother of Jeannette Talbot, Avis's best friend.Sophia tells him to protect Avis from this foolish endeavor, fearing she will be making a terrible mistake.Banning tries to convince himself he doesn't care what Avis does, because she is a stubborn little prig. But, it is hopeless, Banning has cared for the headstrong Avis Copley for the past five years and if she wants to know the aspects intimacy between a man and woman, he will be the instructor for Avis, and not by any means Emory Billingsworth.

Banning, manages through scheming and diversions, to blackmail Avis into substituting him for Emory.Reluctantly, after being kissed so thoroughly by Banning Talbot as to make her toes curl, she agrees and for two weeks in a secluded cottage, they share love and physical pleasure that is more then either of them had anticipated.

This story was so much fun to read, and especially heartwarming. The sweet love talk between the characters was enchanting and added depth to their emotions.Banning Talbot was determined that this relationship was just the beginning and Avis Copley was just as determined that it had to end. Thus the battle begins.

Simply a wonderful read, with well developed characters and lots of distractions and plot twists, I recommend it highly.

3-0 out of 5 stars A slightly better wallpaper romance
A little improvement from the standard romance. You can see by the lack of easy-flowing words andoh-so-common-changed-a-little plot that she's a beginner but she's an ok one. And if you find that you have something better to do is very easy to detach yourself from this one and come back a few weeks later.
I could argue that the sex scenes are not so hot or the chemistry so strong but they are a little better than the average and, in the end, if you want excellence you could pay the double for Hoyt or Kleypas. So here I arrive at the money. Overall, considering that I paid so little for it, I was content. I sometimes spent six times more for a book that made me angry so, if you even have big amounts of time dedicated to reading, this would be an acceptable choice.

2-0 out of 5 stars so, so story
I have to agree with Pen Pen the reviewer...this story was so-so.. The sex scenes were hot. I too liked the hero, but I really disliked the heroine. At the beginning she was OK but as the story progressed she just got more annoying.

3-0 out of 5 stars Weak Character
I gave this book a three because of the weak female character. She was supposed to be this strong, independent woman who supported herself through her writing and refused to marry. Instead she is a weak, easily swayed woman who won't marry because she is afraid of her tainted blood. She supposedly writes to get away from the strict rules of society and yet she lets a jealous fellow author persuade her that no society woman would read her book because it's "improper." She's just too weak to be likeable. She was supposed to be strong, smart, and independent!

4-0 out of 5 stars Every Night I'm Yours
For an emerging author, this was a really good book. I will look forward to others. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars good book
this was a really good book. it was in perfect shape when i got it even though it was used. i really enjoyed it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book review
Excellent book, excellent service. I buy a lot from Amazon and would definately recommend this to everyone I know.

4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining!
I was uncertain when I purchased the book as to what, exactly, it's format was.I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that it consisted of two intertwined stories by two different authors.I'm a big Hannah Howell fan, but I'd never read anything by Lynsay Sands.I was impressed by how well the two authors pulled it off.Though their styles are different, the stories mesh well. The personalities of the protagonists are also quite different, as is the way each couple is introduced to each other. The secondary characters in each story are also well developed and either quite appealing or they make very excellent, if stereotypical, villains.Easy to read in one sitting.

4-0 out of 5 stars Intriguing!
This twin tale of cousins was not quite what I expected. The shortened story lengths packed a lot of information within its few pages. That is one thing that surprised me!I really came to understand the whole rare-meat-loving, non-light-loving clan's history with just a few explanations. The accelerated storyline also held my short attention span better than a full length novel.Others have explained the storyline and I will not go into it again, but I liked the Hannah Howell entry the best.Cathel and Bridget made for a fun couple with word play and more relaxed situations, plus Bridget had a secret of her own that was fun to discover.I enjoyed Connal and Eva's romance also.I liked that Connal had met Eva before and been impressed by her enough to send men to bring her to him.The assassination attempts were rather distracting, but in the end I liked Eva's strength in protecting the man she loved.

Two intriguing tales from authors I have read before.Their writing strength shows in these stories - very interesting presentation!Worth reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY SUPRISED
I basically bought this book because of the Scottish theme. There wasn't many reviews so I was a little worried.BUT, this book was great.I loved how the two stories were similiar, but different. They were somewhat short, but they held my interest the whole time.I also loved the whole vampire theme. This book is worth reading, and I am happy to add this one to my collection. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Didn't like it
The book's concept was nice but I could only get through about 3 chapters. In each chapter I read the female character mentioned that the couple couldn't work because he was white and she was black. The author seemed to place too much emphasis on their race.I also find two people having that strong of an attraction the day they bump into each other unbelievable.

1-0 out of 5 stars 3 Page Book, As Far As I'm Concerned...
I just finished reading Seressia Glass' "Three Wishes" and absolutely ADORED it!So it got me wanting more on interracial romance novels.I purchased this book a few years ago, and never read it--so I decided to give it a try last night...and I might as well have just stared into space while humming...that would have been more relaxing and productive...

First off, the first thing you're introduced to is some drug dealer nonsense that a female character is going through.Talk about a mood killer? If this were more a murder/crime genre, perhaps that would fly, but for a romance novel?Yeah, don't start it off with that...

Second, when the story actually starts--there's a typo.Or what I interpreted as a typo, just in case "high hills" is the new slang for "high heels".That's the first...page...NOT a good look!I notice this with all the interracial novels out there, the amount of spelling errors are atrocious--are there even editors??!

Third, and this is where I should have just put the book down...on page 2 she claims that her mother told her to count more on her brains than her looks, because all good looks can get you in this world is a cold cup of coffee and a stale donut.Wow.Her mother sounds like an uggo, who wouldn't know what pretty people are capable of getting if one actually gave her a 10 mile list of what they can (and do) actually acquire based on their good looks.A cold cup of coffee, and a stale donut??? Really??? If the writer even hinted towards knowing that her mother was exaggerating...but of course she did not.Her ugly mother was serious...wow...

The fourth and final straw for me was the description of what happened when the main characters met for the first time, which occured on or around page 3.Supposedly, they were practically dry humping the air as they stared into each other's eyes, already planning baby names and toe-licking sessions. It was so ridiculously overdone, the internal dialogue they both had about each other (her mind told her "RUN!"Nuff said...)

I put the book down when it said he grabbed her arm and dragged her into some empty room to get her number.

Done.

3 paged book it was, with blank pages afterwards.I will never buy another book by this author. Her friends and family really need to sit her down and encourage her to find a new occupation, because writing is not for her.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad
It was an entertaining read.Possibly not the BEST thing I've ever read, but it was okay.

4-0 out of 5 stars Loved It, Loved it!
I must have gotten a different edition than most people, because I didn't notice the huge amounts of typos etc.
I thought the couple had chemistry. The it factor was definitely there for me. I enjoyed the fact that they didn't just jump into bed immediately.

1-0 out of 5 stars Almost didn't write this review...
I almost didn't write this review because I didn't want to waste any more of my life on this book!! It took me about a week or so to get through it, and thats only because each time I put it down it was out of sheer disgust and to give myself a break from the unrealistic dialogue, complete butchery of the English language (MULTIPLE spelling and grammatical errors), and overall redundant character interactions. I'm a black Latina and my husband is white, and even he found my frustration with this book distressing and couldn't wait for me to finish it-lol! As a general rule I give a book 100 pages to develop, and with the synopsis I'd read it seemed to have all the elements of an excellent read. IR between a black woman and a white man, stalkers, racial issues... No dice. "At Last" did not deliver any entertainment. It was dry and redundant, the characters had no passion to them, and the one aspect of the story that I found remotely interesting (the supposed stalker) was sparsely sprinkled through 400 pages and climaxed within a few paragraphs. In the end I honestly did not care anything about the well being of the two main characters, especially Caroline, who was a whiny, spoiled, skinny brat! There was nothing likable about Caroline, who was painted as a model thin trust fund baby, whom everyone from drug kingpins to adolescent boys lusted after. It was no wonder Ida couldn't stand her! And after reading the 20th description of yet another of her thousand dollar couture ensembles I decided skimming was in order. Ugh, I was really hoping that Ida would have succeeded in offing her in the end. My only consolation is that I purchased this book by using an amazon gift card, so none of my own money went to this garbage but man oh man, what a waste of a gift! Hopefully my local library won't turn me away when I try to donate it!!! ... Read more

Product Description
This study examines women's popular romance fiction's role in constructing gender and revealing power structures. The textual analysis incorporates cultural studies and women's studies by focusing on gender constructs of power through the medium of popular romance fiction and its many subgenres. By using the framework of dominance and submission with psychological and performative theories concerning gender roles, in the first section, this work reveals the power structures within popular romance fiction that reinforce, reinvent, and reshape gender ideologies. The second section of my dissertation addresses historical romance fiction where these same hegemonic and power structures are evident, yet encoded within symbolic and mythical representations of gender and region. The third section includes an ethnographic study of romance writers, both published and unpublished, and their motives and intentions as reflected through their fiction's social, political, religious, and economic constructs. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Lots of boring filler in between the few gems
I should come clean and admit now that I don't like anthologies. However, several of the big name authors on the cover caught my eye, and I figured it was time to rethink my whole "I hate anthologies" philosophy.I thought reading this book would be like going to Baskin-Robbins, and I'd get to try over 25 different flavors of vampire romance in small bites. My plan was to read a few stories each night just before bed, and it worked beautifully as a cure for insomnia.I wish I was kidding, but most of the stories contained herein were not strong enough to capture my attention.

Here's my criticism with anthologies... only a truly top shelf writer can carve out a satisfying story within a scanty amount of space, and since this book isn't packed exclusively with superstar writers, I knew there'd be a lot of so-so to so-sucky stories.I think anthologies work best when 1) they include novella length stories, and 2) the author is writing their story based on a well-loved series.

Overall I was disappointed with this book, but that's not to say that all the entries are crap. There are definitely a few that stand out in my mind for their quality, but if you read all the stories in order (like I did), then it feels like an interminable wait between goodies. It reminded me of trick-or-treating as a kid, and how frustrating it'd be to encounter a long stretch of dark, empty houses.I should have just skipped around the book, but the reviewer in me said I had to read it all or nothing.

Anyway, I did enjoy both of Lilith Saintcrow's entries in particular, and the stories by Shiloh Walker, Delilah Devlin, Barbara Emrys, and Jenna Maclaine all deserve special mention.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your Money
I bought this book at Barnes and Nobles a week ago and readit, and now I wish I hadnt. I spent .01 too much on it, in fact I put it in the trash.
It was like there really wasnt a complete story it it, it made no sence it would start then in and making you ask yourself "what happend to the rest of the story?"I have never wrote a review ( I guess you can tell) but when something is bad it is just plain bad.

4-0 out of 5 stars EXCITING
I HAVEN'T FINISHED THE BOOK IM HALF WAY THROUGH BUT I CAN SAY SOME OF THESE STORY ARE REALLY GOOD IM FINDING MYSELF LOOKING UP THE AUTHORS TO SEE IF ITS SOME TYPE OF POINT OF VIEW FROM ANOTHER VAMP OR AN ON GOING STORY!!!! THE REASON I BOUGHT THIS BOOK IS BECAUSE OF QUINN'S SHORT STORY BY KERI ARTHUR AND IM GLAD I DID NOW IM LOOKING UP SO MANY NEW AUTHORS.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not exactly what was expected
Um...well... it wasnt what i was looking for the stories all seem incomplete I was hoping to get a taste of the authors I dont know but I was disappointed in even the authors I did know the stories are all at max about 10 pages and the stories feel like they could be good but because you didnt get a good enough bite you wont be looking for the true complete version your money could be spent better else where or if you find it on a really good sale go for it... other wise...

2-0 out of 5 stars More erotica than romance.......
Title is misleading.........and from what I read of the book, the writing was average at best......some of the stories would have been better if the characters had been more developed.....but then, these ARE short stories. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good!
It's hard to find good Christian romance books- this book is really good! The continuation of the characters through the connected stories gives you a sense of finality in the end.

Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Blending of Talented Authors
Aloha is a wonderful blending of fantastic talent. All four author's stories were in sync with characterization and continuity. I loved all four stories and if you like reading contemporary romance with fabulous heroes in a romantic Hawaiian series I could not recommend it more highly.

1-0 out of 5 stars Misleading
Aloha? I would have to say aNOha! The product description of this book should be kind enough to mention that it is a "Christian" novel. I had to learn that the hard way and was appalled to read in the first short story that the main character had to "resist temptation" in kissing the heroine of the story because she was not "Christian". This book was an elementary read at best and moreover an insult to a forgiving christian. If you are looking for a more accurate insight to the hawaiian lifestyle as well as a true and forgiving love story I suggest "Flip-Flopped" by Jill Smolinski. I would not reccomend this cheap collection of short stories unless you enjoy thinly veiled judgemental propaganda.

5-0 out of 5 stars Aloha is the best book ever!

Tumbleweeds is a great read, the story of a ranch in Texas and a woman who marries and moves there. 1-0 out of 5 stars Morgan LLywelyn...Galway Bay...Other 3 stories great!
Other than the initial introduction of Eileen's love interest, there was nothing even remotely interesting about this story. The entire book was about Eileen and the other characters - the professor, the couple who owned the inn, the shop owner, and the restaurant owner, but only twice, I believe, with her love interest, which consisted of a few words between them and that was it.It was just stupid.

This book started out so well, but it fizzled fast. The scenery of Ireland shined, which is the ONLY reason this story deserved 1 star, but the girl, Eileen Costello, who was vacationing there, had little personality and it was hard to get to know her because the author gave us no physical description, no hair or eye color, etc, only a slightly tempermental New Yorker whose ex-boyfriend turned out to be married.
Eileen's love interest in Ireland is called "Mrs. Daly's son."

*He has no name.*

And it was never made clear what it was Mrs. Daly's son saw in Eileen to make her 'the one.'He didn't know anything about her!
When we first meet Mrs. Daly's son at the restaurant, he made a wonderful impression and it seemed the story would be great, but after that initial encounter, Eileen doesn't see him again until the end of the book. And I do mean the end.The very last sentence, to be exact. ... Read more

In the middle of this din, the Baron repeatedly implored silence; and when at length the instinct of polite discipline so far prevailed, that for a moment he obtained it, he hastened to beseech their attention ' unto a military ariette, which was a particular favourite of the Marechal Due de Berwick;' then, imitating, as well as he could, the manner and tone of a French musquetaire, he immediately commenced," -- Mon cceur volage, dit-elle, N'est pas pour vous, garcon, Est pour un homme de guerre, Qui a barbe au menton. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book about the Romance of the Rose
Jean de Meun (1250-1305) continued the vast allegorical narrative called the Romance of the Rose between 1269 and 1278 some forty years after Guillaume de Lorris (fl. 1230) wrote the first 4,000 lines. The Romance of the Rose was one of the most popular medieval manuscripts of the medieval period. The narrative follows a young man, the Lover, on a quest for a lady.Along the way, he is aided, distracted, and rebuffed by various personified figures, including Reason, the Old Woman, and Rebuff. Most infamously, the Romance of the Rose repeats "many key arguments from classical misogamous or anti-marriage texts" which Christine de Pizan, wrote against in her defense of women.

By far the most interesting section for me in the Jean de Meun segment was Reason's argument against Fortune.Reason's description of Fortune's house, one side beautiful the other crumbling, is mirrored by Fortune herself. When Fortune walks from the beautiful side to the crumbling side she is transformed from a gorgeous woman decked with robes and jewels to a nude and groveling woman who bemoans and bewails her loss of beauty.Reason uses Nero as a historical parallel.Nero honored those who should be destroyed and destroyed the good (Seneca etc).Nero himself is as irrational as Fortune. However, sadly, the Lover does not heed Reason's arguments.

Heather M. Arden's volume is a wonderful accompaniment to the text.If you want to find the actual medieval text, Oxford World's Classic series has a inexpensive version translated by Frances Horgan. If you want a more detailed analysis of all aspects of the text then Arden's volume is a good place to begin. She provides a concise summary of the text, the literary and philosophical traditions that Jean de Meun and Guillaume de Lorris were influenced by, allegory and personification in the Rose, the Influence of the Roman de la Rose, the text's critical history (Christine de Pizan and Jean Gerson's critiques etc), and Knowledge and Experience in the Rose. The Romance of the Rose is a fascinating text in itself for plot, literary merits, and medieval views on women and marriage. This masterful book definitely increases the enjoyment which comes from reading because of it's analysis and background information.A must buy for those interested in medieval literature and medieval history. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not a keeper, but an enjoyable light romance
From the back cover:

Brenda Jane Dolliver didn't believe in much. Certainly not Christmas, or miracles...or love. But when she desperately needed a haven around the holidays, her one hope was a very unconventional minister...

Hamish Chandler was no ordinary man. Heart-stoppingly handsome, a doting single dad, a man whose trust and faith knew no bounds--the guy infuriated her. But he also touched something within her that had grown cold. He made her want to open her heart to the possibilities of love and family, but she felt desperately inadequate.

But B.J. soon learned that Christmas was indeed a season of miracles...

This was a cute light read. Not a keeper that you'd bother to read over and over, but still an enjoyable romance that's relatively clean. A good first book for the author. I actually found B.J. abrasive and annoying at first, but once I pushed past the first 50 pages, I started to warm up to her. She, in turn, grows a lot but the end of the book, which was nice to see.

And the widowed Hamish's daughters were adorable and captured my heart.

Not one I'd read again, but it certainly wasn't a waste of my time! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Husband 101
*With women throwing themselves at him, how could anyone expect Aaron Carpenter to settle down with just one? Yet Shelly was determined to transform her irresistibly handsome neighbor into the perfect man. Not for herself, of course. She was safely engaged to her stable and secure fiancé--a man totally without Aaron's passionate nature...
And so the lessons began, reforming Aaron's notions about love and devotion. But he's a suspiciously quick learner. And now she had turned the most confirmed bachelor into the husband of every women's drams--especially hers...*
Now, I knew right off the bat that something was peculiar about Aaron, especially after seeing the Bridal Registry Form on the inside cover. This book had me laughing at some parts and rolling my eyes at others. I thought it was very well-written. The only part I didn't like was the way Shelly tried to escape Aaron by getting married to someone else. That part was kind of ridiculous. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Brandy's Wish
'Maggie Wells was a "Great Gal." So how come she couldn't get a date?
She was getting really tired of spending her weekends in front of the television. So she decided to volunteer at the community center. That's when she met little Brandy.
Brandy Conner was a great kid. She loved her new grown-up friend, Maggie.
And Brandy thought Maggie would make a even neater friend for her dad, Ryan.
Ryan Conner was a great...hunk.
Life as a single dad was no bed of roses, but he wasn't interested in finding a new wife-no way, no how. Not even one as beguiling as Maggie Wells...
Could they convince him to make room for Maggie?'
Although Ryan blew hot and cold all through the book, this book proves a good read without lust being the plot of the book, can be done, and done well.

5-0 out of 5 stars A recommended read
For a honest, down home read, you can't go wrong with Make Room for Mommy! It has all the right ingredients for a delicious traditional romance ... Read more
