5-0 out of 5 stars an excellent resource

2-0 out of 5 stars Too Predictable
After the first 2 1/2 stories there was a predictability to them.I knew how they would turn out at the beginning, not very much incentive to finish.I gave the book away.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome collection - quick reads!
Downloaded to my kindle app on the iphone.Great for reading while waiting in line for various things....Introductions to some writers I had not yet discovered.Recommended.

3-0 out of 5 stars special ops
I haven't finished this, the short stories are shorter than I expected. But its an okay book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dangerous quickies - for lovers of alpha males of the human variety
If you like your romance hard and fast and your heroes tall, dark and deadly this collection of dangerous quickies may be just what you've been looking for.

Even though I don't read a great deal of special ops romances, I do love to read them when I am looking for an alpha male who is deadly but still human as a change of pace from my normal shapeshifters, vamps, and other worldly paranormals. And even not having actually read stories by most of the authors featured here before, I have to say that I recognized all of their names - so fans will likely find quite a few of their favorite special ops authors here.

I love short stories so I've read five or so of these BIG short story collections and though this actually wasn't my favorite of the Mammoth Books, there is a good variety of stories. Cheyenne McCray's story was one of my favorites in this bunch - it starts out rough and gets the sex out of the way first thing but what I loved was the way the heroine responded to the hero's reason behind the encounter - violent but good.

Most of the rest of the stories didn't leave me with a strong impression but here's the blurbs to give you an idea of what's inside.

1. Once Burned (Penny McCall)- The last time they worked together was on the mission that went oh so wrong, but now she must work with the man who cost her her career to save a family held hostage by terrorists

2. Caine River (Rinda Elliot) - When a brainy but beautiful woman's hacking puts her in danger, the Marshall who was former object of her teenage lust will be the one to save her from criminals bent on silencing her forever.

3. Surrender at Dawn (Laura Griffin) - A woman seeks out a former Navy SEAL to help her rescue her missing journalist brother from terrorists.

4. Into the Night Sky (Charlotte Mede) - A woman is prepared to risk everything to destroy the man who killed her sister

5. A Kept Man (Shannon K. Butcher) - He quit his job as bodyguard to avoid succumbing to his attraction to the boss' niece but when she turns up looking for a gun to save her now kidnapped uncle, he doesn't know how he will be able walk away again.

6. Russian Roulette (Rachel Caine)- Her cover blown, she is captured by an enemy determined to torture her for her knowledge, pain she expects but falling for the enemy? Now that's a big surprise - this one was interresting and I think I read somewhere that this short is a prequel to a new series which continues the story of the leads, I will certainly be keeping an eye out for that.

7. VeriSEAL (Marliss Melton) - Something about her "SEAL" boyfriend seems just a little off, but will the background check reveal the truth before it's too late - I didn't much care for this one, because the true hero of the piece doesn't get enough time with the heroine to make this a romance.

8. Shoot To Thrill (Charlene Teglia) - When an operative's mission to blow up a virus lab runs into a hitch in the form of a lovely scientist preparing to sacrifice herself with the same result in mind, he will discover that Plan B has so much more potential - a life affirming connection leads to more.

9. Angels of Punishment (Michele Albert )- The child of fallen angels must join up with a justice angel to foil a plot which could tip the balance between good and evil - This is a little prequel to an urban fantasy series the author is planning and both the leads are promising.

10. Dark Force (Cheyenne McCray) - A special ops team leader plans on leaving a distactingly sexy team member behind on rescue mission that's personal - this is the one that I thought had such a great punch at the beginning

11. Lipstick Spy School (Gina Robinson) - An gorgeous assassin intends to take out the hunky instructor of a fantasy spy school for women.

12. Don't Walk Away (Shiloh Walker) - He ruined her cushy life by exposing her father as a deadly criminal, but he's never been able to forget the woman he lost who he now watches from a distance.

13. Heat of the Night (Jordan Summers) - Posing as a priest to get near his target, a sniper goes under cover with a medical team and inspires a 'forbidden' attraction in the lovely doctor in charge.

14. Overkill(E C Sheedy) - A truly strange mission brings an assassin back to where it all began and the woman he's always wanted - I liked this one a lot even though the setup is too hard to explain here.

15. Grey Man (Caitlyn Nichols)- While doped out on pain meds, a soldier has a very strange 'dream' one which changes his future - this is one of the the least special force-y ones of the bunch.

16. Good Guys (Liz Muir)- A thief with awesome fighting skills gets a chance to go undercover and do some good for her country - I love the thief, she's truly great and smart, and I loved how she gets the best of her British spy 'husband'.

17. Code Word Storm (Sydney Croft) - Annike reluctantly teams up with the fellow ARCO agent Creed who drives her to distraction in order to accomplish a mission in which her special powers are liable to get her possessed - a nice little fill-in to Croft's series (Sydney Croft is aka Larissa Ione and Stephanie Tyler) I think this story falls in the middle of the two Storm books.

18. TAG Team (Nicola Marsh) - Forced to work together again, a Special Ops team leader and an operative who specializes in the War on Terror find the attraction between is still electic.

19. The Game(Gennita Low) - I'm not sure what the heck was going on here.A woman is playing the long game and maneuvers the lover who refused her ultimatium into marriage as part of a mission and then leaves him behind.

20. The Traitor (Debra Webb)- 'Betrayed' by the only man she's ever let close, a scientist destroys her work to keep it out of enemy hands knowing that the life she's worked so hard at it is over.

Somehow I missed adding the author names above before I passed the book on to a new home - So I tried to connect the author's and stories together after the fact by scouring the web and had to guess on a couple, so hopefully I got them right.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I would never expect anything less from Lauraine Snelling - her books are incredible...you can't go wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dakota Dawn
This was a story I had a hard time putting the book down until I was done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Snelling does not disappoint!
Lauraine Snelling is one of my all-time favorite writers. Plus, I am half Norwegian, so I thoroughly enjoy her novels! This is a great "feel-good" book....I read it over and over again. My only wish is that she would write more of this kind!

4-0 out of 5 stars A great inspirational story
While the Blessing series is the dearest to my heart, this is still a wonderful collection of stories. The characters are real and bring life to the stories of the settlers to this area of the country. A definite need to read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good!
While other reviewers mentioned the female main characters, I enjoyed other characters whose lives were changed by the influence of these women. In the first book, Carl was very bitter about his first wife's death when he married Nora just so she could take care of his children. It wasn't until the end of the book that he realized he had been wrong and asked for God's forgiveness. In the second book, Nora's sister Clara becomes a live-in companion to Mrs. Norgaard, who has lost interest in life since her husband died. Mrs. Norgaard is much happier with Clara in the house, and together they help the local blacksmith, Dag, who has been persecuted by his younger brother Jude since childhood and as a result feels he isn't a worthwhile person. The third book is about Jude; he accidently kills his wife and mother, then drifts to where a schoolhouse is being rebuilt, and he meets and falls in love with the schoolteacher, and is ready to ask forgiveness from the Lord, his brother, and others he has hurt along the way. The fourth book is about a young girl whose father is the local pastor, and her experiences while waiting for a young man called to fight in Germany. Sometimes the character's stubbornness makes you want to scream at them, but everything works out in the end. ... Read more

Product Description
Those deep-brimmed Stetsons. Those faded jeans. Cowboys are everything a fantasy man should be - tall, tough, and oh so handsome. In these sexy stories, meet three men of the American West who know a thing or two about roping a girl's heart..."The Reluctant Hero", Lorraine Heath Sheriff Matthew Knight is the perfect hero for Andrea's next novel. But the outlaw-busting man behind the badge is more complicated than she bargained for. What's a writer to do when she needs a story - or maybe the question is what won't she do? "The Great Cowboy Race", Georgina Gentry Boston heiress Henrietta never imagined she would race a horse one thousand miles disguised as a boy - or that she'd have to escape an arranged marriage to expert rider Comanche Jones. "Whispering by Moonlight", Teresa Bodwell. Stranded and penniless in a town called Hell Gate, Isabelle has run out of options when gorgeous Lucas Warring rides in like an answered prayer. Willing to do anything, she hires on as his ranch hand during one of the coldest winters ever - and discovers plenty of ways they can keep each other warm. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars As good as the cover
One of the things I love about anthologies is the opportunity to discover wonderful new authors. I bought this book because I am a fan of Teresa Bodwell's "Loving Mercy" and "Loving Miranda" books.

Bodwell has a compelling writing style and it comes through again in this anthology. The characterization is wonderful and the story drew me in. I love the details she uses.

"Moonlight Whispers" is the story of Isabelle and Luke. She's proper, but spunky. He's none too wise in the ways of love, but ultimately learns. I like that Isabelle is steady and strong and she doesn't give in to Luke, who can be a handfull. Lots of sexual tension and a great ending. A perfect read.

I think I'd read one Georgina Gentry book before this and I enjoyed it more than I did this particular short story. Still, it's a good story, with a fast pace and interesting characters.

I'd never read Lorraine Heath before, but will now seek out her other books. "The Reluctant Hero" made me smile. It's the story of Andrea and Matthew, who are at odds from the start. A sweet story that made me want to read it twice.

This is one of my favorite anthologies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gentry-Weakest Link, Bodwell-Grand Surprise, Heath-Normal Brilliance.
Opinions make the world go round and sharing thoughts and opinions with fellow book lovers and readers is always great fun.Giving an overall rating to an anthology is always VERY difficult. Some stories hit and some miss. Not all the stories are to one's liking; yet, I always enjoy reading an anthology, because FREQUENTLY I come across an unfamiliar author . . . one who is satisfyingly new.Lorraine Heath is the reason I rushed to buy MY HEROES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN COWBOYS.Lorraine Heath has been a favorite author since I first read "TEXAS DESTINY."This author seldom misses.

Knowing this, the Publishing House of Kensington unleashes a grand marketing ploy . . .

1). Georgina Gentry: "THE GREAT COWBOY RACE." - Rating: 2 (1 Star).
Good grief! In "The Great Cowboy Race" Ms. Gentry misses the mark. The entire affair reeks contemporary and the story itself is nonsensical . . . farce or not . . . this is just plain goofy!

Comanche Jones was a penniless cowboy - a big, rough Texan.Henrietta Jennings was a penniless Boston debutante - a back East city gal.Comanche and Henrietta both wanted fast cash.He needed cash to buy a small ranch, she needed cash to impress her estranged rancher father and the competitive horse race from Omaha to Chicago was just too tempting to pass up!The key word: Competitive!

And so . . . the story and the buffoonery begins and moves from belching contests, to "big sausages," from innocent blue eyes, to big Daddy and his "hang-`um high" lynch mob. To sum up in two words: Gallop Around.

2). Teresa Bodwell: "MOONLIGHT WHISPERS." - Rating: 10 (5 Big Stars).
Remarkably, Teresa Bodwell controls this raw, poignant story. Her characters are natural, her historical setting is first-rate, and her reader is the ultimate winner."Moonlight Whispers" is an excellent short story.

Everyone . . . everyone liked the idea of Isabelle Millston staying at Luke's ranch . . . everyone . . . right down to the shaggy ranch dog. Lucas Warring promised Isabelle she could remain on the ranch until her father came and Lucas would keep his end of the bargain come hell or high water!Although, Isabelle knew she deserved the disdain radiating from Luke, she had no other way to repay his kindness.Besides, when the time came and she left the ranch, how else would she make a living?Engaging in the oldest profession in the world was her only choice.

Teresa Bodwell delivers a winner with "Moonlight Whispers."Isabelle Millston is a heroine the reader can root for; she flows from the pages as spunky and soft. She is someone who deserves happiness.Luke Warring is a hero who drifts through the story with steadfast ease.Although, he radiates incompetence whenever he is involved in the man-woman relationship, he is someone who deserves a happy ending. And happily, "Moonlight Whispers" delivers.

3). Lorraine Heath: "THE RELUCTANT HERO." - Rating: 10 (5 Stars).
Lorraine Heath is one author who can take an average provision and create a reading appetite.Simply put: when Lorraine Heath is in her element - westerns, Texas, hunky heroes - there is no finer author."The Reluctant Hero" is a funny, touching tale held together by Heath's artistic skills.

Andrea Jackson had a very heavy financial burden to unload, but she would definitely pay back the money! As writing was her only means of support, Andrea would need to write a whole bunch of dime novels. Now, if only he would cooperate? He is the honorable Matthew Knight - the "all-time" perfect dime novel hero!Sheriff Matt Knight longed for loyalty and love, but he wasn't ready to be anyone's hero. He had too many faults and she was not the kind of a woman he deserved, but she was definitely the kind of a woman he wanted!

USUALLY a short story leaves a reader feeling rushed and unsatisfied, but in "The Reluctant Hero" Lorraine Heath successfully brings her story home.To what degree? I just pre-ordered Lorraine Heath's next book!

****** So did Kensington get the grand marketing scheme through?Well, Teresa Bodwell and Lorraine Heath produce BIG TIME.However, I think the idea behind this anthology was to launch Georgina Gentry's newest book, TO TEASE A TEXAN.Here Kensington struck out! They also struck out with the large size book idea, the poor quality of printing paper idea, and the extraordinary price idea - $17.95 Canadian. What gives Kensington?I hope this is not the wave of the future!

5-0 out of 5 stars three great western romances
"The Great Cowboy Race" by Georgina Gentry. In 1893 desperate Bostonian Henrietta Jennings travels to Chadron, Nebraska to obtain the help of a father she never met; however, she learns that tough old Henry is not at his ranch, but instead in Omaha. In dire straits hiding from her mother who demands she marry a prominent Brahmin, she darns the disguise of a boy and enters a horse race to Chicago thinking that Pinkerton would seek a female easterner.Though the trail proves dangerous she adapts except for her desire for her toughest opponent, Comanche Jones.

"Whispering by Moonlight" by Teresa Bodwell. In 1862 Isabelle Milton finds herself broke working part-time in a saloon that does not need her help in Hell Gate, Washington Territory.Lucas Warring enters the saloon looking for his wastrel brother Matt, but learns his sibling has run off with miners. The saloonkeeper and his wife, the Havermans, persuade Lucas to take Isabelle to his ranch as a cook.As the northwest suffers from a frozen winter, they fall in love while learning how to stay warm.

"The Reluctant Hero" by Lorraine Heath. In 1884 Gallant, Texas, dime novelist Andrea Jackson chooses Sheriff Matthew Knight as her next hero. However, he refuses to talk about his escapades to The Lone Star Lily author.Desperate, Andrea decides to seduce the scowl off his face, and the words from his brain, but he persists in saying he is no hero as he has a debt to pay off.

These are three great western romances starring brave somewhat desperate females and strong men who melt when their ladies turn up the heat.

4-0 out of 5 stars Novel Crimes. . . where reality meets fiction!
Embezzlement, fraud, stealing and murder give mystery writers something to write about-unfortunately, they'd rather it not take place in their personal lives!

Love's Pros and Cons

Miguel Villarreal would make a wonderful roll model for Tina Frank's hero in the novella she's writing with her Sleuth Sisters. After her handyman is murdered and a FBI agent shows up, Tina begins to have doubts as to whether Miguel is really a hero, or worse yet-a villian!

Suspect of My Heart

If you can't beat them, join them. Raine E. Wells takes a job at the art museum in order to find out what's been going on at the museum, hoping to find a story to write about, and if the museum is safe enough to entrust them with her newly inherited famous paintings.

Lance, one of the maintenance men, seems to know an awful lot about art for his position in the museum.

Will Raine catch a thief? Or be caught up in more than love?

Love's Greatest Peril

Justine Proof knows someone's after her, but isn't sure why. Could Patrick Bells, a.k.a. Wild Pat, still have a dark side? Why is it that whenever Justine has `car trouble' Patrick always seems to turn up? Is he her stalker or her knight come to rescue her with a raspberry latte? This coffee shop owner has more than coffee on his mind!

`Til Death Do Us Part

Ever have a dream that came true but turned out to be more of a nightmare? Maybe Cassie Jordan should stick to writing romances-no one gets murdered! When her mystery plot turns to reality, it has her questioning the one person she shared her story idea with-Ethan Hamil!

Read Novel Crimes to find out whether or not the heroines survive their real life mysteries and live to tell about it. I'm sure you'll enjoy these wonderful stories as much as I have.

Other books by these authors include (note: they're in anthologies with various other authors): THE BOUQUET and LOVE AFLOAT, by Diann Hunt; THE HOUSE THAT LOVE BUILT and HAPPILY EVER AFTER, by Susan May Warren; HIGHLAND LEGACY and TAILS OF LOVE, by Pamela Griffin; CHRISTMAS LETTERS and HEIRS OF ANTON, by Susan K. Downs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Novel Crimes
This novella collection is a fun romp through the world of novelists, filled with mystery and quirky characters. Woven together with Drake Axelrod?s The Makings of a Great Mystery, the novelists try to use his rules as they write mysteries of their own. In Love?s Pros and Cons, Tina Frank learns that first impressions can be deceiving, especially where Miguel Villarreal is concerned. Suspect of My Heart takes us into the world of fine art and people who would steal it. Raine E. Wells has to learn that all is not as it appears, especially where Lance is concerned. In Love?s Greatest Peril, Justine Proof has to learn that she can trust Patrick Bells.?Til Death Do Us Part finishes the collection with a story about Cassie Jordan and Ethan Hamil?s quest for love. This book is a very good read!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE "SPIRITUALLY [my addition] SLEUTH SISTERS'" STORIES
Wow!!!What a great Christian anthology of four novellas from GREAT authors who weave their own lives into four mystery novellas that are challenged to be written and published by a "Professor Drake" who has led their [imaginary] Convention about just such a topic. All four of these novellas - and excellent tie-ins "Prologue" + "Epilogue" will bring you to page turning this book in one and a half days.(Yep!I counted it just for you!)What a great idea for a gift for your favorite someone or for yourself.I really loved this one.And it already had my favorite author in it as one of its authors (Susan May Warren.)The others are newcomers to me up to this point but believe me I'll be back for more!Come and get it!You won't be sorry! ...
