Excerpt: History of Saskatchewan encompasses the study of past human events and activities of the province of Saskatchewan, the middle of Canada's three prairie provinces. Archaeological studies give some clues as to the history and lifestyles of the Palaeo-Indian, Taltheilei, and Shield Archaic Traditions who were the first occupants of the prehistoric era of this geographical area. They evolved into the history of the first nations people who kept their history alive in oral tradition. The First Nations tribes that were a part of this area were the Chipewyan, Cree, Saulteaux, Assiniboine, Atsina and Sioux. Henry Kelsey (16671724), was the first European (an English man) to visit this area, and arrived 1690. Other European explorers also soon arrived followed by fur traders such as The Governor and Company of Adventurers of England trading into Hudson's Bay (Hudson's Bay Company) and North West Company. Clifford Sifton, Minister of the Interior in charge of immigration, (18961905) induced a variety of agriculturally inclined European emigrants to Canada to settle prairie land around the transcontinental railway. Editorial Review

Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Saskatchewan," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Saskatchewan in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Saskatchewan when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Saskatchewan, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

Product Description
In "Cloud-Capped Towers: The Utopian Theme in Saskatchewan History and Culture," Alex MacDonald surveys the utopian stream of prairie idealism in Saskatchewan, including intentional communities of the early settlement period, utopianism in city planning and literature, and a wide variety of today's utopianisms from naturism to environmentalism.Arranged alphabetically, "Cloud-Capped Towers" can be explored for brief histories, interviews with intentional communitarians, and notes on utopianism in Saskatchewan literature. The text, the illustrations and the appendices also trace what is undoubtedly the central utopian theme in our history--the value, and indeed the necessity, of co-operation, not only to survive but to achieve our dreams of a better life. ... Editorial Review

Product Description
A History of Education in Saskatchewan: Selected Readings seeks to address what, until now, has been a gap in Canadian educational history. This book is not intended as a definitive history of education in Saskatchewan, but rather a collection of voices from various quarters. Each of these voices tells a story about an aspect of Saskatchewan's educational past. Collectively these stories reveal much about how education has shaped the province and how the province shaped education. ... Read more
