2-0 out of 5 stars Who named this "Encyclopedia"???
In that book there is only one thing: many-many beautiful inspirational pictures. No more than this.
If you see this book - I'm am sure you would want to make paper.
But if you are a papermaker already and you need complete information about many aspects of papermaking - you would not find it in that book, you do not need this book absolutely!
So, I think that there is only one reason to by this book - to inspire someone - may be kid or friend. That book can be a handsome gift. But may be you could find book which is beautifil and informative simultaneously.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth the price for learning the basics
Impressive - this book is very clear in what it covers from its title alone. The discussion on making basic hand-made paper in a variety of methods and producing variations in the surface texture/color/materials used is excellent.Wonderful step-by-step photos (not shown in the "Search Inside this Book" link) compliment the directions and show the end product.TIPS provided throughout the book provide sound information that is VERY useful when proceeding with your own work. When it comes to the second section of the book - Bookbinding Techniques and Projects - again very well done. The tools needed are clear and well represented to get you started and for those that may be a bit more advanced. Each project provides a list of tools needed so you can be well prepared as you tackle one or more of the projects. The guidelines in this section are again well-written complemented by photos of the process...and the photos are extremely useful when it comes to the more complex processes when making books - especially the various binding methods. The papers produced do not go to the more elaborate as seen in other books on papermaking, but when you are making a book/journal/travel log/photo album wild papers are not necessary unless you want a striking cover IMHO.A few pictures of paper art by various artists finish the book in a nice way and help increase the creative process for my own papermaking designs that I use for my own art/business.If you want a more advanced and very detailed book on how to bind books - go elsewhere but for what I have mentioned above and what is described in the Table of Contents, the author has covered the subject extremely well for all to be able to learn and make well-crafted books/journals/etc using their own hand-made paper.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money
The two things I like most about this book is its thoroughness in the techniques it shows and its easy to understand and follow instructions. Not only does it give step-by-step written instructions, but it also shows you pictures at each step, unlike some craft books that only give you a picture of the final project. The book also contains a variety of projects, and they are decorated in different styles. Most other craft book only offer one style, such as very -artsy- (i.e. colorful) or very -country-. There is nothing wrong with these styles, but it is nice to have a variety of inspiring choices, such as this book provides. I reccommend it to both the beginner and more experienced crafter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for those who want to make books or paper
Altho' I am somewhat of a beginning artist, I want to use my form to make books and embellished items. After comparing this book to others, I found this WELL worth the investment -- even at full price.I can hardly wait to get started! It covers very basic techniques to more advanced, "artsier" stuff, and makes it simple enuf to follow along and figure it out.Complete with great photos and simple instructions...if you're interested in making books or paper, this is a great resource...

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
I have 5 books on making photo albums and books. I love this book. The book describes how to make paper and then get's into how to make books. It is by far a useful resource to own. A+++ in my book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Beginning Scrappers
I am a part-time scrapbooker and have created a couple of life history scrapbooks. I have more than 25 books and 30+ magazines just on scrapbooking.

I bought this book for my sister because I have been trying to get her to scrapbook, but she said she was not creative. This book is a great book for simple, basic scrapbook layouts, perfect for a beginner. Because the layouts are simple, it is not intimidating to someone new to the craft. The 10, 20, 30 minutes that is indicated in the title is basically what you can do with one page in 10", if you have 20" it shows what additional embellishments are possible with the same page. With 30", you have a full page with a lot of the bells and whistles. There are multiple layouts and pages in this book, using the 10-20-30" format. The instructions are simple and the photography is clean and easy to see. My sister looked at the book and with just a little encouragement has made some great pages.

I highly recommend this book for the beginning scrapbooker OR if you want simple, clear layouts take you back to the basics.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a great book
I have many scrapbooking books and this one is just not up to par.You can find simpler designs elsewhere plus there'snothing new in this book you haven't seen before.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Fun time is here"

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Scrapbookers!
I have read several card making books and this one is by far my favorite. It's the only one I've found really geared toward scrapbookers. You know, those of us that aren't big into rubber stamping or cutting machines and just want to use our scraps to create beautiful and fun cards for our friends and family?

There are lots of ideas that you can easily adapt to fit your needs. For example, I used one of their father's day layouts as a thank you card for a male friend; and I took a holiday layout, changed the colors and made a birthday card out of it. I've already created 6 cards from this book and I've only had it for a month!

My only complaint is that there are no measurements, nor are there instructions on how to make envelopes to go with the cards. But again, you can easily adapt and make the card whatever size you want and I'm sure you can find templates online for envelopes. Plus, the individual card instructions are very general--easy enough for someone who's familiar with scrapbooking, but could be too vague or frustrating for a total beginner.

Overall, Creative Card Making for Scrapbookers is definitely worth picking up to have in your card making library.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must-have for those who love to create!
A friend once showed me how to make cards.I was in awe at all the hard work that went into a personal card and decided I needed to know more. What a treat to be able to make a home-made card and give it as a special gift to a friend or family member. If you're creative and want to know more--buy this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Real Keeper...Don't Miss This One!
Scrapbooking is all about recording family memories in a creative way, so I was pleasantly surprised to find a book that contains not only the personal family journals of a few well-known scrapbook artists, but the expeiences that inpsired the work, and their ideas on how the reader can incorporate these ideas into similar scrapbooks. This book takes family journaling to a whole new level.

The book shows the various journals and then gives ideas -- jumpstarts, if you will, for how the reader can create a similar work that reflects their own family memories. That's the beauty of this book. It's not only provides eye-candy, but great ideas and instructions. For example, on page 26 we are introduced to The Strine family's Time Capsule created by Allison Strine (and the credits for each piece contains ALL the names of the family members, not just the name of the individual artist -- I love that special touch!). On the opposite page is a sidebar that contains ideas for things the reader can collect to create their own time capsule. I fell in love with the Adolph family's "South of the Border" journal designed by the children of Christine Adolph. The journal was created while on a family cruise vacation and the along with photos are ideas on what to gather during YOUR family vacations so you can create your own journal. Throughout the book each artist shares her ideas on how you can create journals just like theirs with your own artistic and familial bent.

This is no doubt one of my very favorite art books because it brings to mind what scrapbooking is all about...our own personal memories gathered together in our own artistic way. This is not about what the magazines are looking for, but what our families treasure most. Awesome book. I'll keep it forever!

Enjoy,
Cris Cunningham

5-0 out of 5 stars Making Memory Books by Hand:Memories to Keep and Share
This is the best book I have found on making memory books. I was inspired to make a memory book for my sister's 50th birthday in the shape of a house. The directions with photos are easy to follow. The galleries are very helpful in applying the method taught in many new ways.

4-0 out of 5 stars Inspiration and Directions
This is one of those books that you buy when you are feeling covered in glue and clumsy, too confused to go on with your projects. The book is stuffed with colored photos, and illustrations of real hand-made books. They are called memory books, but they aren't the kit-assembled scrapbooks that fill the aisles of stores, these are handmade with heartfelt choices. Some are rustic, with torn pages and lots of handwriting. Some are polished with wood covers. All are worth looking at. Some are worth drooling over.

The128-page paperback opens with a basic tutorial on paper and equipment and some basic assembly instructions, enough so you could make some of the projects in the book.

After the basic instructions, it helps to have some experience with accordion folds and coptic spine stitching to complete other projects. The book is not meant to be a tutorial on coptic stitching-there are not instructions for that-but that doesn't diminish the book in the least. There is enough inspiration to fill weeks with your own creative work.

There are different sections, including Travel, Special Events, and Family, but each book can be adapted to your use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiration but no step-by-step instructions
This book is great for inspiration for the experienced papercrafter. That does not mean you have to be an expert. The projects featured are unique and definately got my creative juices flowing. This book is not for beginners looking for a how-to manual for hand bookmaking; there is an assumed understanding of some basic skills that are not explained in detail here.

Love this book. 5-0 out of 5 stars great book
I love this book it is illustrated very well and that alone is worth the price, in addition you are given very clear instructions for a number of creative journals. This is definately a keeper.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful and delicate book
This book is so beautiful and inspiring.
The watercolors are delicate, the instructions are very clear and many different kinds of journals are suggested.
It's a must for anyone who intends to begin a journal, and also for scrapbookers.
The author is a very talented illustrator, and her ideas full of good taste.
Loved it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Several good ideas, instructions a bit sparse
There are some good ideas in this book, and very lovely artwork throughout, although some of her travel projects (like the envelope/stamp holder made from the file folder) are not really sturdy enough to drag with you traveling, unless you are the type who travels to a destination and stays there for weeks at time. And, why go through the hassle of making an attached cover for a clipboard, when you could make a sleeve for it instead?

Also, some of the directions could have been fleshed out a little more--there was plenty of blank space in the book to do so. One example: the author mentions a "weaver's knot", but doesn't have an illustration to show how to tie it.

3.5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Artful Journaling
This book is filled with wonderful ways to journal things that go on in your life.
It gives you so many suggestions of ways to make your memories more meaningful.
I especially like the idea of making little diagrams or inserting pictures to help you
remember something in better detail.
The authors illustrations are so beautifully done.
This book also makes a wonderful gift.......
Thank you Janet for sharing your talent.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it and you will love it !!!
This is the perfect book for beginners in journaling and also someone already accomplished. I was really inspired by her ideas.
Her illustrations are very sweet and beautiful and she gives you ideas on how to start painting. She shows you how to collect tickets, leaves and other items from your trip and include them in your journals.
Her details on how to do binding with her illustrations make it easy. My journals aren't boring anymore! I now have more colors and details!
I can't wait to go another one of her workshops !
