5-0 out of 5 stars Timeless truth
The Urantia Book has nothing but good things to say about Sikhism. I see why. When I lived in south India, the Sikhs were always the peace makers between the Hindu and Muslim communities. Sikhs have a more evolved and mature attitude about equality between the sexes than any other religion I know of including Christianity (Paulism). Quite cosmic for a 700 year old document. Short but to the point; no wonder this is such a young, vibrant and thriving faith!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zoroaster (Latinized from Greek variants) or Zarathushtra (from Avestan Zaraθuštra), also referred to as Zartosht (Persian: زرتشت), was an ancient Iranian prophet, philosopher and religious poet. Some scholars believe that he lived sometime between 1750 and 1500 BC or between 1400 and 1200 BC, although Iranian tradition places him at about 570 BC. The traditional Parsi people of India place the Prophet as older than 6000 BC [1] . The hymns attributed to him, the Gathas, are at the liturgical core of Zoroastrianism. ... Read more

Product Description
Born into a society caught in the throes of orthodoxy and ritualism and further crippled by child marriage, infanticide, and a rigid caste system, Guru Nanak was deeply spiritual from an early age. The outpouring of Nanak's faith evolved into the universal message of the omnipresence and existence of one God, of true love, equality and compassion, which appealed to Hindus and Muslims alike. Drawing upon the various myths and legends contained in anecdotal biographies and placing them in as precise a historical framework as possible, The Book of Nanak traces the chronology of the main events of Nanak's life. ... Product Description
The Sikh religion has a following of over 20 million people worldwide and is ranked as the world's fifth largest religion. However, events such as the verbal and physical attacks on Sikhs just after September 11 indicated that they were being mistaken for Muslims, and suggests that the raising of sufficient and appropriate awareness about Sikhism still needs to be addressed. This book is one of the first to introduce newcomers to Sikhism's meanings, beliefs, practices, rituals, and festivals. Eleanor Nesbitt highlights the key threads in the fascinating history, from the Gurus and the development of the Sikh appearance, to martyrdom and militarization in the 17th and 18th centuries, and the diaspora. She also examines the recent proliferation of Sikh lifestyles in today's news and entertainment media. This book is an essential guide to increasing understanding of the Sikh religion and culture. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I had expected
My interest in Religion stems primarily from the desire to learn about faith and beliefs, and their metaphysical underpinnings. So when I pick up a book in order to learn about a religion that is different from my own, I have an expectation that the major part of that book will deal with the subject matter of those beliefs. Regrettably, that is not the case with this very short introduction. The Sikh beliefs are dealt with briefly and in a very superficial way. Most of the book deals with Sikhism as a social and ethnic category. Of course, those considerations should not be neglected either, but this was not why I decided to pick up and read this book. If, on the other hand, you are interested in those "demographic" aspects of Sikhism, this very short introduction will provide you with plenty of information. This, however, makes for a very boring read. ... Read more
