5-0 out of 5 stars diabetic snack recipes
Who doesn't love to nibble and nosh? This is a great recipe book for all of us that live with diabetes.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent buy
used book in excellent shape was able to save in purchase, will buy used again

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent collection of simple recipes
This book offers a decent collection of recipes that are pretty simple to prepare, which is convenient if you have some guests over for something casual and feel like "noshing." But after going through it, only about 30% of the recipes ended up appealing to me (out of 175). Everyone has different tastes though, so you can't necessarily go by that.

Some of the recipes are just a little bit too simple (like the "nachos" recipe that pretty much just melts cheese on fat-free chips and serves it with salsa and sour cream). I really didn't need a cookbook for that one.She does use a lot of pre-packaged, canned, and frozen food mixes (like frozen veggie stir-fry mixes) so you really can toss some of the recipes together in a hurry for an impromptu get-together.

Some of the recipes were a bit high in sugars for me, upwards of 22 and 23 grams of sugars per serving, but there are some desserts that use sweeteners like Splenda that were appropriate.

If you're looking for recipes you can get on the table quick, then this might be what you're looking for. If you're looking for something extravagant, then you may not find a whole lot in here.

5-0 out of 5 stars Approved by diabetes and dietitians experts
Now in an expanded second edition, Ruth Glick's The Diabetes Snack Munch Nibble Nosh Book enables people with diabetes to have nutritious, delicious, "diabetes friendly" snacks between mealtimes and at celebratory occasions. With twenty-five new and flavorful recipes added to those of the ground breaking first edition, The Diabetes Snack Munch Nible Nosh Book features recipes for one or two people (as well as for parties and crowds); snack ideas for hard to please kids and adults; nutritional analyses, prep times, and exchanges for each showcased recipes. As is appropriate for a diabetes diet, all of the recipes are low in both fat and sodium and are kitchen-tested, portion sized to aid blood sugar control and weight loss, and approved by diabetes and dietitians experts. If you or a family member is having to deal with diabetes or seeking to prevent the onset of diabetes, then The Diabetes Snack Munch Nible Nosh Book will prove a welcome addition to your personal and/or family cookbook collection!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of My Favorite Cookbooks
The previous edition of this book is one of my favorite cookbooks. Before I got it, I was in a real snack rut. But Ruth certainly widened my appreciation of snacking. One thing I like is the way she gives you options. You can buy a crust for her Barbecued Chicken Pizza or make your own, if you're in the mood. It was fun to find out I could make things at home that I thought I could only get in a restaurant, like Egg Rolls and Pesto. There are even a couple of healthy versions of "Egg 'N Muffins." Some recipes are for things you eat right away. Others make bigger quantities, so you can eat some now and then have something yummy to pull out of the refrigerator-or enjoy snacking with friends.

One chapter is devoted to food for kids. And there are all sorts of neat recipes designed to make it fun for them to eat healthy snacks. Two of the recipes are named "Celery Man" and "Aladdin's Pizza." And there are directions for turning canned pear halves into cute little mice.

I also like the chapter on appetizers for grownups, like cocktail meatballs and chili con queso. When I bring them to parties, everybody loves them, and I don't have to worry about what I can nosh on, because these dishes are not only delicious but healthy.

The new version adds some great recipes to the book. There's a cranberry orange tart that's going to be a standard at our family Thanksgiving dinners. Another new favorite is the sweet potato pie with a really easy low-fat crust. And I love the New York style cheesecake and the teriyaki chicken bites. ... Read more

A mouse counting on a snack

A peckish mouse on the hunt for a light snack - something like a piece of cheese - climbs up the table and finds a feast fit for a king. He prepares an enormous platter filled with everything from chicken legs to tacos to cupcakes - and of course there's cheese, too. However, the cat is onto him, and a chase ensues as the mouse desperately shoulders his smorgasbord back to his hole - but it's too small! All the food flies up, up, up, landing on the unfortunate feline. All except the cheese, that is, which bounces safely into the mousehole.

In addition to being a happy adventure with the simplest of texts and hilarious pictures, there is the bonus of counting the items of food the mouse piles on - and later loses - from the single cheese portion up to the ten slices of chocolate cake.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for pre-schoolers - and the rest of us!
This is a clever, fun counting book with a hungry mouse gathering delicious goodies for a snack. He ends up with way too much on his plate and forgets about the cat which results in mouse losing almost everything he is carrying back to his mouse hole. The illustrations are especially good in this book which adds to the fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars If You Give A Mouse a Banquet
It's one thing to draw a cute little mouse with which kids can identify, but it's even better when you see things from the mouse's point of view. The McFarland spousal team presents a perfect marriage of text and illustration in a delightful cat and mouse story that doubles as a counting book.

The small mouse has small goals-just a little snack ("Something like a piece of cheese") for his hungry tummy. However, as we follow the mouse up the dining room table leg, we share a delectable surprise:There's a feast on that table (perhaps for Christmas); a spread so large and colorful that it elicits a "WOW!" and a "YUM,"from the mouse, who, in a recurring motif, begins to "flex those muscles," and "crack those knuckles." As he slides all the different treats off the tables, the reader can count them from one piece of cheese up through six "tasty tacos," and finally (and excitedly!) ten slices of chocolate cake.

There's a wonderful picture of the bottom of a tabby cat's feet as MOUSE returns home with his plate of food ("UH OH!").There's a collision, flying food, and an unhurt cat lying underneath the spilled platter contents. There's also a "happy mouse" who, though he doesn't get the banquet, does munches happily (in his rocking chair) on the little snack he wanted initially. This is an amazingly fun book, packing its own banquet of color, emotion, and excitement in it 30 pages. The McFarlands take a prosaic tale and turn it into a riotous adventure and counting book, featuring a very appealing mouse with loads of personality.Printed on very high quality, glossy paper (the kind you love to touch and look at), "Mouse Went Out to Get a Snack" and its hero will win your heart over--I hope this team has more Mouse books planned!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Mouse Adventure
In the tradition of great mouse-adventure stories where the quest is to eat LOTS of food while avoiding detection from either cats or humans, MOUSE WENT OUT TO GET A SNACK by Lyn Rossiter McFarland is a gem. I would say MOUSE WENT OUT TO GET A SNACK is a combination of your typical mouse book such as MOUSE MESS and a counting book such as Eric Carle's THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR.The essential plot is that very sensibly "Mouse went out to get a snack. Something like a piece of cheese." However, overwhelmed by the table's bounty he ends up with "1 piece of cheese, 2 plump plums, 3 baby carrots, 4 fried chicken legs, 5 ears of corn, 6 tasty tacos, 7 assorted jelly beans, 8 colorful cupcakes, 9 jolly gingerbread men, [and] 10 slices of chocolate cake." However in his greediness, he failed to take into consideration two things: the cat AND the size of his mouse hole! He ends up after all with a sensible snack of a single piece of cheese. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars A lot of strange, unfamiliar & unappetizing recipes.
I went through this entire cookbook 2-3 times before finding a recipe that sounded worthwhile: Corndogs! And the recipe was awful. I'm a good cook, so I don't think it was me. I followed the recipe right. Ended up donating the book to the library after that one attempt.

The instructional portion at the front of the book (all in the Good Cook series have this) was somewhat interesting--this cookbook really covers a lot of things you might not think of as snacks (mayo-less deviled eggs, tongue sandwich, choux, etc.), or even at all--about a 2.5 on a 5-point scale where 5 is Great! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Nice ideas - could be more in number
I love Family Fun magazine and get great ideas out of there.Bought this for my sister-in-law who is always calling me for ideas like I find in the magazine.I think it is pretty much in keeping with the magazine, but I thought there would be more ideas.Could probably just go to the Family Fun website and others like it, and get just as good of ideas and many more in number than in this book.I would only recommend the book form if you are getting it for someone else.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great fun cooking with your kids
I bought this book some time ago when my stepson took an interest in cooking. There are alot of great recipes that will get your child excited to create. Some are a little involved, but are good rainy day cooking projects.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good!
I made some of the recipes for the party of my baby (1st birthday).
Kids liked a lot! Very simple recipes and nice presentation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it
I just loved this book! I was looking for some fun snacks to serve for my daughters 2nd birthday and this book had wonderful ideas. Sure some ideas were no brainers like a snack of apple and cheese on a toothpick but just seeing the idea made me stop and think about which was more fun to eat.It gives great ideas about freezing fruit on a stick so seasonal favorites can be enjoyed all year. Most recipes are very healthy and fun your kids won`t know its good for them.My daughter get so excited looking through the wonderful color pages and picking out which items she wants to eat. Some other simple ideas were sandwhich in cookie cutter shapes.I liked that it told how to make applesauce and peanut butter. Also it doesn`t require buying premade items like cookie dough although it can be used, they provide their own recipes. The best part of all was that nearly every recipe has a picture.I think I only found one that didn`t and it could have been on a different page.I love that the recipes call for everyday items, no hard to find or unknown foods here.Note: the book does state that all the recipes come from the Family Fun magaize and are probably all online on their website, so long time readers will probably not see anything new and may be disappointed. As for me, I am a new reader and all the ideas were new.I know I have seen some ideas online, but who really has time to turn on the computer everytime they want to make a fun snack then print it out or write down the recipe.Use the website to see their "how to make" videos. The book was well worth it!I am getting more of the series, one just arrived and I am in the process of picking out the next one.Happy eating with your kids!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Snack Time!
Feeding two growing boys, I have found that making snacks both fun and healthy has become somewhat of a challenge. It seems simple enough to offer cut-up fruit or crackers and cheese, but that becomes boring after awhile. This book offers some creative ways to get out of the "snack doldrums" and have fun with snacks again.

Offered in a beautiful hardcover book with full color photos of each recipe, this cookbook showcases over 125 snack recipes that are quick and easy to make. Some of our favorites include:Fresh Fruit Pizza, Instant Sorbet, Fresh Fruit Ice, World's Easiest Pickles, Healthy Hummus Dip, Cookies & Milk Bars, Spiral Sandwiches, Veggie Quesadillas, and Rocky Road Fudge.Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Thanksgiving story for pre-K or K
For kids in the 3-5 age range who are learning to read. The sentences are very, very simple and are written in speech that rhymes. ("Big ship," said Chip.) No contractions, which is great. Helps with learning sentence structure, and gives a basic story of the trip on the Mayflower. The ants are enticed to board the Mayflower when they spy yummy snacks aboard. They wind up traveling to America where they make new friends and have a feast. A nice cast of characters and a fun read. (review by a homeschooling mom) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This author's books are very witty and fun for all ages.
If you are a foodie and want to share your love of food with you little one these books are perfect. The art is a mix of paper cutouts and found objects and the rhyming story is very cute. You'll be repeating things like "Hola Jalapeno" to your little one with glee! I just wish this author would put out more of this series of books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun!
This book is, like Wilson Sanger's other books, a lot of fun.The rhymes are a pleasure to read aloud, and the pictures are clever. We love to introduce the kids to a variety of foods/cultures, and this book is a great way to do just that.Because we're not Jewish, we can't vouch for the authenticity of the depictions. She does include a pronunciation guide for us Gentiles in the back - much appreciated. Both of my kids (now 5 and 2) love these books. It's fun to start out the last rhyme by saying, "Today my tummy says: let's nosh," and hearing them finish "on lots and lots of matzoh!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Cute board book!
All of of these little board books by Amy singer are great.Perfect for the toddler who loves to turn the pages and learn about something a little different than, ball, duck, and dog!

5-0 out of 5 stars cool and quirky board book
My one year old son loves this board book! We actually have the entire series. It's fun and creative, and I don't have to worry about him ripping the pages. We are hooked!

4-0 out of 5 stars making tsimes

I like this series for kids. It's a nice way to get kids curious about foods from different cultures, different ethnicities.

I didn't enjoy this book as much as some of the others, but that may just reflect the fact that Jewish cooking isn't as good as other cultural foods. We may be the only ethnic group that doesn't find comfort in our own comfort foods, at least that's my take on it, for numerous reasons, some of which I will respectfully not go into, as they are not flattering to my family.

But still, a nice book, a nice series. If you are fortunate enough to live in a neighborhood with a good variety of ethnic restaurants, and fortunate enough to have children with temperaments conducive to public dining, these books are a nice supplement to the feast.

Very cute book. I am now looking for nice Mexican wood play food to go with it for my grand daughter.

5-0 out of 5 stars can i give it 7 stars? THIS IS OUR FAVE SERIES!
i can't write in all caps, but this series of baby books from amy wilson sanger are our absolute favorite. i have all 7, and give them as gifts to lucky friends. so funny, so cute, so creative and a great way to learn about world foods, really. my older daughter likes to read the dessert sections to our baby and we have even experimented with some of the foods. A MUST HAVE FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES!

Okay, I would be lying if I didn't say that food was important in our family. It is the centering of every family gathering. This book (along with a few others from this series) was a nice introduction for my niece on the different types of food, how to say them, and fun illustrations. It also has made the idea of trying some new foods a little more interesting for her.

5-0 out of 5 stars Snacks Your Guests Will Love!
This is an amazing little book! I use it whenever I'm having people over and I've liked everything I've made so far. A couple of days ago I served the Spicy Sworded Tofu to some friends and they all LOVED it -- including one who normally won't eat tofu. The Pretty Party Pinwheels that are shown on the cover were also a hit, and so was the Edamame with Ginger Salt. A.J.'s recipes are great and they really are quick and easy to put together. This book also has lots of color photos so it's even fun to flip through when you're deciding what to make!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Shout Out! For Party Snacks! Hollaback!
Times are tight, and while you may not have the resources for a big fancy dinner, you don't have to stay home alone and eat microwave popcorn every night. Partymaster A.J. Rathbun has compiled 50 incredible recipes to help you put some zip and zest into your next party, without you breaking the bank (or a sweat!) Party Snacks! (love the exclamation mark!) is jampacked with yummy stuff. The spicy cheese balls are amazing, but the Gorgeous Gougeres might be the ultimate party chow. The gougeres (which may or may not be French for awesome cheese biscuit) are simple to make. They have just a few basic ingredients: flour, salt, butter, eggs, parmesan cheese, gruyere cheese - but man, they are excellent. The last party where they were served saw a swarm of guests hovering over the basket of biscuits until they were gone. Put 'em in the center of the room, toss in a couple other tasty snacks, and enjoy yourself and your friends.

3-0 out of 5 stars Quaint ideas but not reference material for diabetics...
In some circles "Snack Attack" is touted as a good reference "snack" cookbook for diabetics and while there are some quaint ideas for good snacks, the book is only moderately useable for diabetics.Peruse the margins for the nutritional information and you may soon realize that these "Guilt-free Treats" may only be relatively healthy depending on your current diet. But for diabetics... be very careful: too much sugar and too many carbohydrates per meal, per serving.

2-0 out of 5 stars Misleading title
Not so much snacks as general items. Recipes full of uninspiring substitutes - for example, if you are wary of the additions needed to make cottage cheese fat-free - instead of interesting alternatives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Snack Book

5-0 out of 5 stars Nibble Bible
The spiral binding makes for easy use. Generous margins allow for notes and comments. The introduction offers wonderful guidelines, including how much to make, based on number of guests and time of day; and a proper mix of food types.

I consider it my entertainment Bible, and the ladies' hints and tips make life easier. I have used it for everything from parties with friends to donating my "catering" services for a friend's in-home charity event.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific book!
I bought this for my friend, after she borrowed my copy so many times!

Great recipies, from the quick last minute to the complicated 2 day variety, you'll find what you need for whatever type of party you are throwing. (fancy or the Superbowl.)

I haven't had any of the recipes fail yet! Good luck!

5-0 out of 5 stars This author's books are very witty and fun for all ages.
If you are a foodie and want to share your love of food with you little one these books are perfect. The art is a mix of paper cutouts with found objects and the rhyming story is very cute. You'll be repeating things like "Hola Jalapeno" to your little one with glee! I just wish this author would put out more of this series of books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
My family is full of soul food lovers. I grew up on southern specialties & love that my little boy has his own book about collard greens & fried chicken;) This is probably my son's fathers favorite book to read to him. I'll sometimes over hear them in the room discussing the food & my little guy with very few words saying "yum yum". I think that this book would make a nice addition to any little ones library (under two that is).

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute but very short
This was a cute book, I purchased it for my nephew but he is still a little young for it.I didn't realized what "board book" meant when I purchased this book, it is really meant to be read by the child and isn't really a story to be read to them. But, I'm sure he will grow into it and it is a unique book, I would recommend for anyone who wants their children to learn some basic Italian words. ... Product Description
The nacho has universal appeal. It’s a finger food, it crunches, it’s Tex-Mex, it’s tasty. It’s quick and easy, yet it’s still satisfying. Anyone can make a good nacho. It’s casual enough to eat on the couch in front of the game, but it can be gussied up for any occasion: like hamburgers, pizza, and other wildly popular casual foods, nacho variations are vast, and techniques are important.

That’s where Macho Nachos comes in handy, beginning with the fundamentals—what cooking vessel to use, what temperature, which cheeses and chips work best (and which really don’t), how to make cleanup easier, and how to avoid bad results (soggy on the one hand, burnt on the other). Then on to recipes: Speedy Nachos (the easiest recipes) such as Traditional Tex-Mex “Nacho’s Nachos”; Smoked Chicken, Roasted Peppers, and Asiago Cheese Nachos; and Nachos de Carnitas. Then there are Uptown Nachos, for those social situations when it might actually be necessary to tuck the shirt into the pants and perhaps entertain the fairer sex: Jamaican Rum Chicken Nachos; Popcorn Shrimp Baja Nachos; and Crabmeat and Spinach Nachos. There are even Breakfast and Dessert Nachos.

And of course Macho Nachos is a rich source of homemade condiments—the pièce de resistance (if you will) of the well-appointed nacho—for those chefs too advanced to settle for a jar: from classic Pico de Gallo to Ginger-Watermelon Salsa, from Avocado Crema to Chipotle Mayonnaise, here’s everything you’d want to drip, drizzle, or pour over your macho nachos. Don’t leave the couch without it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent one topic book
I own thousands of cookbooks, and this is one of the better one topic books I have run across. All the recipes are easily prepared with easy to find ingredients, and of the 10-12 I have made so far, all have been very tasty. This book will get you out of the typical beef and bean type nachos and into a new world of taste. A lot of the combinations also make excellent pizzas.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book cooks!
I'm not a great cook but I thought I knew how to make nachos. Boy, was I wrong! The recipes in this book take nachos to levels I never dreamed of. Now I can make them not just as a snack but as a full meal. Even my girlfriend wonders where I suddenly learned how to cook.

If you want to salivate, buy this book just for the photos. ... Read more

Product Description
For the littlest fans of that favorite Japanese finger food comes a sturdy board book sure to inspire giggles (and even some growling stomachs!). Sanger’s textural, mixed media and cut paper collages form an ideal accompaniment to her bouncy rhyming text to captivate/fascinate even the most finicky eaters. Whether a temaki know-it-all or clueless about ebi, First Book of Sushi is a welcome side dish for nori experts and novices of all ages.Amazon.com Review
For families that place good food high on their list of priorities, educating their wee ones about the joys of sushi may be far more important than teaching about bunnies and balls and flowers. But even those who don't know futomaki from hatahata will relish the playful rhymes and lush collages in Amy Wilson Sanger's wonderful First Book of Sushi.

Miso in my sippy cup,
tofu in my bowl.
Crab and avocado
fill my California roll.
English-speaking tots will love wrapping their lips around Japanese words such as tekka maki, ebi, and wasabi, and will soon be joining in the bouncy recitation of sushi favorites for the very young. This bright little board book, with its gorgeous array of patterns and textured, mixed-media collages, looks good enough to eat. And who knows, it might even inspire picky eaters to try a little egg tamago or squishy salmon roe (otherwise known as ikura)! (Baby to preschool) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars our 13 month old loves this book
My girlfriend loves sushi, but her doctor prohibited her from eating it while she was pregnant.I bought this book during her pregnancy as a joke, but it turns out to be one of our daughter's favorites. The bold graphics catch her attention and the rhymes maintain it.My one complaint is that the rhythm of the book is inconsistent:after the first seven pages, the amount of text per page doubles, which means that she wants to turn the page before we are done reading the text.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still a favorite after 31 months
When I was pregnant with my daughter this was the first item I purchased for her.We have read it a ton of times. Now, at 31 months old, she has a pretty big library and this is still one she consistently pulls off the shelf for me to read.Whenever we go out for sushi she always says, "pink pickled ginger cools my tongue, wasabi HOT, HOT, HOT"!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sushi Fun!
I found this book in a funky little store in Nashville and bought it as a gift for my niece. The artwork is colorful and fun, the rhymes are great, and the concept is fantastic. My niece's mom ended up buying all of the rest of the books in this series, I like the rest too, but this one is by far my favorite of them all.

2-0 out of 5 stars not as good as the others in the series
This book just isn't as good as the others in the series.I like the artwork with the seed beads as roe, etc. but the flow of the poetry just isn't all that.
The one I love is "Hola Jalepenjo".It's far better than this one. ... Read more
