This book is about children with speech and language impairments and what teachers and other professionals can do to promote their learning and their social inclusion in a mainstream setting. A brief introduction to SLI is followed by a chapter on the main issues for the classroom; how teachers can support the preferred learning style of the children and literacy and numeracy strategies are each given a separate section.

Inclusion involves more than the learning experience and so the social, emotional and behavioral agenda, including successful transition and working with parents, is given equal emphasis. ... Read more

Product Description
Firmly rooted in research, The Supervisory Process in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology is an update of Jean L. Anderson's seminal work by the same name and proves to be a practical guide for supervision at all stages of development. While preserving the essential and unique text from Anderson's work, this text is a practical and immediately applicable resource for supervisors and supervisees. The now classic Continuum Model and its stages of supervision developed by Anderson form the foundation of this text. Each stage is fully explicated in its own chapter and is accompanied by strategies and tools to implement it. Research findings and information generated since the publication of the Anderson text are integrated into existing chapters. The effect is a cohesive discussion of Anderson's model that will support the professional practice of supervisors in speech-language pathology and audiology as well as professionals in allied health and education. The contemporary format of this new text includes a new chapter on the supervision of speech-language pathology assistants, attention to new ASHA training standards (effective in 2005), and case studies and practical tools that make it useful for supervisors in any setting and level of practice. The final chapters of the text demonstrate the model's use in the preparation and continuing professional education of supervisors. ... Read more

When I was asked to supervise/mentor a new Speech Pathologist I turned to this book for direction.Dr. Brasseur was a professor of mine so I already knew how thorough she is in all that she undertakes. The book exceeded my expectations for detail. It is guiding me through the process of supervising/mentoring.It has brought my attention to important steps I need to incorporate that I would not have otherwise recognized as significant. It is of great benefit in providing me with the opportunity to explore my own professional skills, communication style, and my knowledge base for making clinical decisions. So, all in all, it is invaluable as a day-to-day organizational tool, fulfilling one's commitment to the RPE/CFY individual, fulfilling one's responsibility to the profession, and also in providing me,as a working SLP, the opportunity to critically review my own skills and determine a personal guide for self-improvement. ... Product Description
Survival Guide for the Beginning Speech-Language Pathologist, Second Edition will guide you when taking your first clinical steps toward a career as a speech-language pathologist. Graduate and undergraduate students, as well as beginning therapists, will find this book useful and easy-to-understand. It provides realistic, practical, and comprehensive overviews of clinical problems that are often encountered by beginning clinicians and offers solutions to those problems. It also prepares you for what you will experience along the way. This text does not focus on the numerous principles and theories which underlie various aspects of the clinical process because these are thoroughly covered in undergraduate and graduate courses. The second edition has expanded and updated information on many topics, including parent conferences and the concomitant reports, group therapy and play therapy, preparing for public schools, and more. Writing quality reports remains a major focus of the book. Drawing on her more than 30 years of experience, the author teaches the ins and outs of report writing. She provides many real-world examples of reports, showing what to do and what not to do. You'll make the transition from theory to practice much easier using this book as your guide. Let this book help you avoid common pitfalls and provide you with a solid foundation for your practice--from the very first day in the clinic. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Intro to Sound
If you have had university-level physics then this will not offer too much except to reinforce ideas. However, it is well-written and a nice introduction to the topic for those who are interested in science but are not scientists by trade.

3-0 out of 5 stars GOOD BOOK
I RECEIVED THE BOOK VERY SPEEDILY AND IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. HOWEVER, AFTER USING THE BOOK A FEW TIMES FOR STUDYING, I NOTICED SOME OF THE PAGES WERE GETTING LOOSED AND WERE BEGINNING TO FALL OUT. OTHER THAN THAT, I AM PLEASED BECAUSE THE BOOK IS VERY EASY TO FOLLOW.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book..very cut and dry
I was required to buy and basically memorize this entire book for class and it was very good; i learned more than the basics, that's for sure. However, my classmates thought it was a little cut and dry and that some parts were a tad confusing.

4-0 out of 5 stars good reference text
A bit of a challenge to read at times, but great for use as a reference.Covers more than the basics of sound transmission and all the associated physical science.Concepts are clearly and thoroughly explained. New skills are traditionally taught in isolation from one another, regardless of the fact that the brain is a multi-functional parallel processor, taking in information at many different levels and processing this information in many different ways. Speech and language abilities are more easily acquired when body movement is involved, and this workbook sets out a practical approach to putting this theory in motion and enabling communication in hard-to-reach individuals. This fully-photocopiable book is based on a tried-and-tested synergistic approach, designed to combine occupational therapy and adaptive physical education with speech-language pathology, creating lessons that are fun and functional for educators, family and professionals alike. Packed with lessons suitable for both neurotypical students and those on the autistic spectrum, the versatile plans suit young people of all abilities, and use a multi-faceted approach that combines their capacities to develop physically, cognitively, socially and emotionally.Following an exploration of therapeutic approaches, the book goes on to discuss feelings and figurative ideas, alongside physical, creative and crafty ideas to get both body and mouth moving. This book will be a valuable resource for educators, family members, and professionals working with Autism Spectrum Disorders. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The SLP Bible
This book is really the Bible for every SLP and especially for the one's who need a thorough review and a good preparation tool for the Praxis Exam.It actually gives you a sense of confidence.Worths each and every peny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Advanced Review
This book has been very helpful to me and has definitely helped me obtain a better grade in my class. I highly recommend this book and this seller.

5-0 out of 5 stars an excellent resource
I purchased this book to study for the Speech Language Pathology Praxis exam.I am a speech language pathologist with ten years of Canadian work experience. When we moved to Georgia, I had to write the Praxis exam in order to get my license to practice. This book was the only book I used to study for the exam.I felt that the book summarized the important information in each subject area very well. The information in each chapter was up to date as well. The practice exams on the CD that comes with the book were only somewhat helpful. The main criticism I have for the practice exams is that there is less text to read in the questions compared to the actual exam. When you write the Praxis, you will find that many of the questions require a lot of reading before you can answer the questions.I was really unprepared for this and, as a result, took the entire 2 hours to finish all the questions.I had no time to go back and check any answers.Still, I ended up with a score of 760.

1-0 out of 5 stars Never received it
I always order books from amazon and never have a problem. It has been over 1 month and I did not receive my book.I have been in touch with the seller and he is sending me a form for a full refund. Not happy. I contacted him about 3 wks into the order confirmation and he told me to give it the full month to arrive, although he claims it was shipped 2 days after the order.Makes no sense.Wont be ordering from this seller again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good reference. Poor preparation.
If you're looking for accurate, concise practice Praxis tests this is NOT the book for you.

Bought this book because my prof told me it would help study for Praxis AND it came with a fancy CD with practice tests! The content is ok (a little wordy at times, vague at others).I'm taking the paper-based Praxis, and it took me a long time to figure out how to print the practice tests (without answers) so I could practice with a hard copy.

The CD program was not created or proofed well. Some answers were typed in wrong (e.g., 43.13% instead of 34.13%). It wasn't that big of a deal because I already knew the answer...but what other questions did they screw up on? Also, test 1 did not have the correct answers on the CD...I had to look them up one by one with the "book reference" chapter.

Overall, I'm pretty disappointed in this book with regards to the Praxis practice part. It is a good quick reference for the wide range of subjects in SLP scope of practice. Wouldn't buy it again. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Parent Empowering Product!
While schools often make parents wait until the third grade or later to intervene with a child's speech difficulties, Speechways gives parents powerful tools to assist their own children at home, getting a jump-start on intervention and correction. The Speechways program is not only inexpensive, it is definitely effective. I have the full set, as my six year-old son had difficulties with the /l/, /th/ and /r/ sounds. With the help of Speechways, he has mastered the /l/ sound and is progressing with the other two. He actually looks forward to working with me on his sounds- he thinks of it as special time together! The cards come with step-by-step instructions on what to say and do, as well as how to model proper techniques. I am also a teacher/Education Specialist, and have recommended this product to parents whose children could benefit from it. Thank goodness there is Speechways- we would still be waiting years for the school to begin speech therapy!

Product Description
While keeping the scope and essential thrust of the original book unchanged, this third edition has been updated to reflect the latest technology. For instance, important revisions have been made to a few chapters, while one chapter has been eliminated and replaced with a newer chapter dealing with recent developments in digital and consumer electronics that are relevant to laboratory instrumentation. The authors hope the readers of this text will be more confident with instrumentation and more willing to experiment with it, as well as be able to appreciate the possible ways that electronic instrumentation can be used in their work.

The book was written with the undergraduate in speech and hearing sciences uppermost in mind. Instead of detailed information about individual pieces of instrumentation, a more basic and broad descriptive approach has been used. Throughout, examples have been provided regarding how certain pieces of equipment can be used in the clinic or laboratory. One or more step-by-step exercises are included at the end of certain chapters to help students obtain hands-on experience and equipment flowcharts help reinforce the exercise. Students who complete this book will have a basic understanding of the major pieces of instrumentation in the hearing and speech clinic/laboratory.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stuttering
Agreement about stuttering therapy has been a major objective of this Foundation and this book represents progress toward that objective.

In recent years most disagreement has boiled down to a preference for one of two major approaches.

Some clinicians have preferred to help stutterers learn not to avoid stuttering, but to approach it and to learn to stutter in simpler and easier ways.

Other clinicians have perferred to teach stutterers to speak in a fluent pattern that can be gradually shaped to normal sounding speech in all situations.

The authors of this book... show how it is possible and desirable to integrate and coordinate these two most commonly used therapy approaches in order to retain the advantages of both methods so as to obtain even more satisfactory results.
