Great Resource!
I am not an elementary teacher by trade.My training is actually in counseling & psychology with a special interest in elementary age children.As a military wife, we move around often, and I am finding that some duty stations require me to take a break from my counseling career, and work in a job with more schedule flexibility (i.e. substitute teaching).So far, this book has been very helpful in giving me ideas for "time fillers" to use during classes, as well as helpful advice and instruction on how to manage classroom behavior.This is a good book for any first time substitute teacher, or any substitute teacher looking for new, fun, and creative ideas to use in the class. ... Super Sub is Super!
This handbook exceeded my expectations. It provided good on-the-spot activities, and lessons that I look forward to using when I have my own classroom-- or a long term sub assignment. I look forward to reading more books by these author/teachers!

Great Book For New Subs
I think this book would be great for new subs, but I was a little disappointed with the lesson plans.I've found myself in several situations where the teacher left me no instructions and I don't think these lesson plans would be very useful.It does have lots of great tips and some classroom management ideas though.

BEST SUB BOOK OR SHALL I SAY TEACHING BOOK AROUND!
This book has it all for new subs like me! It was written by a Mother/Daughter team who has taught for over 35 years. It has tons of things to do to make up for non-existent lesson plans and even a much needed Sub List Kit on what subs should pack in their briefcase daily. It provided great ideas and some tried and true examples. They had everything in there that you could think of and also some sample situations that you can learn a lot from. It is a well thought out book and organized very nicely with cute little illustrations. I purchased the Teacher's Bag of Tricks and Instant Success in the Classroom (the yellow book) as well and they were mainly full of lessons plans (that were so-so) or Sponge Activities (most of which needed to be reproduced). They didn't provide any examples or practical advice at all. I would say stick with this book and you will definitely have your classroom going places!!!

If Not a Super Sub, Surely a Great One!
Considering that this is a 90 pg. book on such a broad topic, the authors did a great job of putting together both relevant advice and lesson plans for subs (gr. 1-6). The book is divided into 3 main parts: tools &advice, lesson plans in 8 subject areas,& a small section on timefillers. The lessons are very meaningful & easy to implement, and theadvice is great for starters. While you still need to supplement this bookw/ other activities & ideas (no 1 book can cover it all), it'sdefinitely worth having in your collection!

A Good Beginning
I feel this book is a good book for a beginning substitute teacher. There are a couple of problems though. One is that there are very few reproducibles. Wasted time and money on this
This book is a waste of time. Most substitute orientation classes will have more information then this did.You can find more useful information by a quick google search then by reading this book.The information is not completely useless but rather the presentation is.The book is very short and the word font size is very large, while the pages are only filled for about two thirds of the page.It book is drawn out and padded to make it look like a "real" book.There are better books on the subject and there are better webpages on the subject.A note to people reading this review: When reading reviews, one should check the other reviews written by each reviewer.Should the reviewer have only reviewed the one item then be suspicious of the review.It is easy to have positive reviews by writing them yourself. I am not claiming that is what happen here only that you should see what else the reviewer has written. Look elsewhere for information...

What a find!!
This book is unique.Most books give you forms to fill out you really don't need and lesson plans that you can't use because the regular teacher leaves the plans for you.Instead, Konior gives the reader a blow by blow discription of what a day in the life of a substitute teacher entails.I especially liked the entries on discipline, cooperation with other teachers and administrators, and keeping student attention.Some subs learn these things under fire.Konior has eliminated that problem with her insightful comments written in an easy to understand language.Although on the surface rather simple, the book contains valuable information. This is a "must read" for all new subs.

a good guide to have on hand
I recently started substitute teaching.On impulse I purchased this book and was glad I did.The subjects covered in this book are precise and to the point. It doesn't drone on endlessly so that you miss the point all together.Even though you would think that some of what is said is common sence, you realize that, when you are actually in the classroom in front of a group of children you have never met, your common sence is the first thing that flys out the window.This book was a great reminder of the basics when I needed it the most. Thanks Ms. Konior for realizing what us subs really need.

Great Resource For New Subs
I found this book to be a really good resource.My school's orientation just covered district wide rules.It didn't cover how to handle yourself in the classroom. I didn't want to read a big book. This book is brief and concise. It really fits the bill.J. Konior tells it like it is.That's exactly what I wanted.
