Texas Wildlife Association Formed in 1985 by a group of ranchers and wildlife managers dedicated to the conservation, management, Category Recreation Outdoors Wildlife North America and other State and Federal agencies on matters Convention TWA Conservation Initiatives education Programs Estate Send Email to firstname.lastname@example.org 401 http://www.texas-wildlife.org/
Extractions: The Texas Wildlife Association separates itself from other conservation and hunting organizations by focusing its mission on private landowners and their ethical relationship to the land. Command-and-control environmentalism has largely run its course, and land trusts will never raise enough money to do the job alone. The future well-being of wildlife, both game and rare species, depends upon private landowners commitment to habitat. Private landowners arent the gaps between protected lands; they are the real stewards of the lands in their care, and often have so proven for several generations. Motivated by what Aldo Leopold called a land ethic, enabled by sustainable markets and incentives, and nurtured by their association with the entire land and hunting communities private landowners are achieving real conservation results, in some cases overcoming great political odds to do so.

Extractions: Hunting Equals Habitat is the motto of the Texas Big Game Awards, another TWA program co-sponsored by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Far from being just a big buck contest, the Texas Big Game Awards (TBGA) recognizes outstanding native white-tailed deer, mule deer and pronghorn antelope and the landowners who actively manage their land to encourage wildlife and habitat conservation. A new program added in 2001 are the Carters Country TBGA Wildlife Conservation College Scholarships, awarding $20,000 in college scholarships annually. Texas rapid urban growth presents unique communication challenges for the Texas Wildlife Association (TWA), which seeks to educate both private landowners and urban residents about the positive aspects of responsible, active habitat management and ethical hunting. To reach these diverse audiences, TWA creates opportunities for interaction and education at Wildlife Management Field Days, special events such as Wildlife Expo and conventions, training workshops for adult volunteer leaders and teachers, and symposia for landowners, land managers, and natural resource professionals.
