Product Description
On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on human blood, prepared animal blood, toxins, cultures of micro-organisms, and similar products excluding yeasts in Taiwan face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying human blood, prepared animal blood, toxins, cultures of micro-organisms, and similar products excluding yeasts to Taiwan? How important is Taiwan compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of human blood, prepared animal blood, toxins, cultures of micro-organisms, and similar products excluding yeasts vary from one country of origin to another in Taiwan? On the supply side, Taiwan also exports human blood, prepared animal blood, toxins, cultures of micro-organisms, and similar products excluding yeasts. Which countries receive the most exports from Taiwan? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers?

This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for human blood, prepared animal blood, toxins, cultures of micro-organisms, and similar products excluding yeasts in Taiwan. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for human blood, prepared animal blood, toxins, cultures of micro-organisms, and similar products excluding yeasts for those countries serving Taiwan via exports, or supplying from Taiwan via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models.

In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Taiwan fits into the world market for imported and exported human blood, prepared animal blood, toxins, cultures of micro-organisms, and similar products excluding yeasts. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Taiwan in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market destination. These shares lead to a volume of import and export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that Taiwan is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize Taiwan compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes. ... Read more

Product Description
Despite differences in the political, social, and economic systems of Taiwan and mainland China, the process of modernization in both has challenged traditional cultural norms.Tonglin Lu examines how differences in cultural formation between Taiwan and China have influenced reactions to modernity and how cultural identity has taken different forms on both sides of the Taiwan straits. She illustrates how these differences in the experience of modernity are expressed through analysis of paradigmatic films produced in both countries, with a particular emphasis on their formal experiments. ... From the author: Recent deregulation in Taiwan, including the lifting of a ban against Japanese programs and the authorization of commercial CATV, has resulted in a rapid increase in the number of foreign programs. After reviewing the unique broadcasting history of Taiwan, this study examines exposure to and preference for foreign programs based on a nationwide survey. The findings demonstrate that, in addition to social status, historical and cultural backgrounds substantially affect individuals' choices of foreign programs.

From the supplier: The impact Japanese and American culture has had on television programing in Taiwan is examined, focusing on the history of Taiwan television and the social status of television viewers. Topics include the historical relationships among Taiwan, Japan, and the US; preferences Taiwanese have for Japanese or US programs; and frequency of viewing.

The culture existed in the Iron Age of Taiwan island. Some evidences suggested that Niaosung Culture was directly relative to the Siraya people, an aboriginal tribe which is still living in this area. There is a set of several archaeological sites formed the culture, such as the Niaosung Site (), Futingchin Site (), Hsiliao Site () and Kanhsi Site (). Some were discovered in the archaeological research excavations, and some in other works such as digging fish farms or building factories. Excerpt: Taiwan Pride is the annual gay pride parade in Taiwan, The parade was first held in 2003. Although joined by groups from all over the country, the primary location has always been the city of Taipei. The most recent parade, held in October 2009, attracted between approximately 25,000 participants, making it one of the largest gay pride event in Asia. Women Coalition of HKSAR showing their support in the Taiwan Pride parade in Taipei in 2005. Water BoysTaiwan Pride differs in many ways from gay pride parades held in the USA and Europe. The parade foundation is one example. Western parades often show a divergence between social movements and "commercialization". Some pride parades are financed by corporations targeting gay customers, and sometimes the parade even becomes an advertising venue for the corporations. In some communities the conflict is so great that one parade even separates into two. Taiwan Pride is still primarily a social movement, with little advertisement there are even complaints that local gay-targeting corporations give too little support to the parade. Taiwan Pride also differs in the type of parade. A majority of the parades around the world usually take control of the main road, blocking bystanders on the sidewalk. Taiwan Pride share the road with cars, bikes and bystanders, and is subject to regular traffic control. While it is inconvenient and sometimes dangerous for participants, sharing the road without clear separation also blurs the distinction between participants and bystanders, providing a gray zone of participation. Product Description

Following the recent success of Taiwanese film directors, such as Hou Hsiao-hsien, Edward Yang, Ang Lee and Tsai Ming-liang, Taiwanese film is raising its profile in contemporary cinema. This collection presents an exciting and ambitious foray into the cultural politics of contemporary Taiwan film that goes beyond the auterist mode, the nation-state argument and vestiges of the New Cinema.

Cinema Taiwan considers the complex problems of popularity, conflicts between transnational capital and local practice, non-fiction and independent filmmaking as emerging modes of address, and new possibilities of forging vibrant film cultures embedded in national (identity) politics, gender/sexuality and community activism. Insightful and challenging, the essays in this collection will attract attention to a globally significant field of cultural production and will appeal to readers from the areas of film studies, cultural studies and Chinese culture and society.
