This book is a great resource for any school that is starting an advisor-advisee program or has been unsuccessful in getting an advisement program to run smoothly. The author gives many strategies for getting the group of students to "gel" as a group and to feel comfortable in sharing with their peers. She has practical suggestions for organizing an advisement program and includes a discussion on the adult roles in advisement. The focus of the book is on strategies for interaction rather than on specific lesson content for an advisement program. However, many of the strategies she discusses could certainly be included in one or multiple advisement sessions. ... From the supplier: Middle school advisory programs can help students to explore gender issues. From the supplier: Parent advisory councils in Canada must overcome challenges to further parent-educator partnership to meet decision-making goals for education-related issues. Parental influence on school decision making should be guided by resolving questions on authority, scope and parent-educator interests. Furthermore, councils should address concerns on encouraging parent participation as part of improving students' academic achievement. The councils should also remove obstacles inherent in academic organizations that limit parental involvement.
