5-0 out of 5 stars Even If You Don't Like Tennis.
I was never a tennis fan. I played with my freinds a few times but nothing serious. After reading Prince of Tennis, it really got me excited and I really wanted to go out and play. This comic keeps you hooked every step of the way, not knowing what's going to happen next. It's cool, it's fun, it's definitely not a comic you want to pass up with out giving it a try. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Short and Mildly Humorous
This is a very quick read made up mainly of one-liners. Some of the lines are hilarious. Some are mildly humorous at best.At some are just repetitive after being repeated in previous chapters.Having read the book would I buy it again? No.But I did enjoy some parts.Regardless, it's such a short read that it is not a significant commitment of time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Laughter Across the Net
I loved this book. Only tennis book I know of that I laughed at from beginning to end. It's all here-the quotes of McEnroe, The Williams Sisters, Anna Kournikova and so many more. I highly recommend this as a gift book. Of course I'm biased, I am the author. If you would like more information about this book or any of my other books, you can go on to glennliebman.com. 2-0 out of 5 stars Fairly good, but rather negative
If you are looking for a very basic book that offers some insight to parents who have children just getting started in tennis and what to expect, then this is for you. There is not much detail and chapters are very short. It's blunt and to the point about how difficult, if not impossible it is for kids to achieve success in the pro circuit.I would never let my 8 year old son read this book because it may dash his hopes and dreams. However, I do believe the information in the book is fairly accurate from what I'm learning from my son's tennis coach. The author primarily played college tennis and never really made it in professional tennis.I would have rather known this before purchasing the book.He played a few professional matches and met a lot of the famous tennis players, but never did much in the professional circuit. So, he stresses in the book for parents to focus on collegiate tennis. There were also numerous grammatical errors and typos throughout the book which tells me the author probably doesn't write many books either.Overall, It's worth reading, but continue to get other people's opinions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth Implementing In Your Junior Program
Growing up with David Britt, it was an honor to purchase his book sharing his thoughts, experiences and advise to parents and coaches. I think so much of this book that I have implemented it as purchase for parents of young people in my own Junior ACADEMY. Doing this has saved alot of time and similar repeated conversations about the development of each child in the program.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book for Families With Junior Tennis Players!
Yes, this is a great book for parents. It is also a great book for young tennis players.I highly recommend it to tennis families like mine.

It is written in an entertaining and direct style. The chapters are short; each addresses a particular aspect of playing junior tennis (and parenting the tennis player). The advantage of this is that once you've read the book, it is easy to return to a particular chapter to re-visit a specific issue. Moreover, the chapters can be read in just about any order you wish -- each is a bit like a self-contained essay on a particular subject.

Our entire family has read the book (we have two tennis-playing sons).Because we've all read the book, we have a shared starting point for some of our discussions.

The chapters cover topics ranging from equipment to nutrition to training to pressure, sportsmanship, traveling to tournaments, choosing and interacting with a coach, and parent-child relationships and how they are affected by competitive play.

We have taken the book to tournaments with us, and turned to a particular chapter after returning to the hotel. It's kind of like taking the coach along. You can draw on that little nugget of wisdom at just the right time!

I highly recommend this book to families raising junior tennis players.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book for Junior Tennis Parents
This book was by far the best book I have read and the only book I have found on this topic. The thoroughness and the personal touch that the Author gives is second to none.It was a fun read and one that I can easily remember and relay onto my children.I have two children that play tennis. One that has been at it for a number of years and the other that is just starting.I am thankful to have found this book now, but really wish that I had it when my first child started playing tennis. This book is helpful for parents who already have experienced junior tennis players and for ones that have kids who are just getting started. ... Skill alone won’t make tennis players great—they must also have the mental toughness it takes to perform under pressure. To prepare for the demands of competitive match play, look no further than the training system found in Pressure Tennis.

Tennis coach Paul Wardlaw has created and refined hisextraordinary training program through 14 successful seasons at the college level. His system teaches you how to design and implement effective practice sessions using pressure drills that simulate match-like conditions.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well-conceived original tactical system but artificial
Paul Wardlaw coaches at Iowa and formerly coached at Kenyon College. He is a well-known college coach and is well-respected.
His "Directionals" system is original in how it is organized/structured. Teachers before him also taught directionals but didn't articulate it as well. His directionals is a form of high-percentage tennis. Some players are not mentally wired to perform directionals and will express confusion when confronting a player who violates directionals (what do you do?). Directionals also sometimes conflict with creativity (or genius, like McEnroe or Hingis) and automaticity (being in the zone). There are a few lesser tactical problems with the "Directionals", e.g., situations where "Directionals" break down. "Directionals" do, however, help many players to understand "high percentage" tennis. "Directionals" also help players to anticipate based on geometry of the court and high-percentage play. It also allows coaches to present tactical ideas in an organized manner. There are many fine coaches who like "Directionals". Most players should be exposed to the concept of directionals...but it is for them to conceptualize their own style and tactics. Still, it is a very fine, original (although hyper-organized?!) contribution to tennis theory. And, every good player usually incorporates a good portion of "directionals" (high-percentage tennis) in their game. A final plus is that there are a wealth of tactical drills many of which don't involve directionals. In fact, 2/3 of the book is based on tactical drills. Recommended for coaches and teaching pros. Recommended for those advanced players looking for systematic tactics or just simply for more drills. Not recommended for beginners and low intermediates (below 3.5 NTRP) since they won't be able to execute many of the tactics and drills.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pressure Tennis
This book was useful.I am an advanced player, but learned a lot from it, especially a lot of useful drills to emphasize his "directionals".

5-0 out of 5 stars A book for all players and coaches
This book is for anyone that wants to improve their play.It shows you how to pick appropiate shot selection so that every shot becomes automatic and you won't have to think about it.These are called "Wardlaws Directionals" and any tennis coach worth anything or aspires to beneeds to know. There are also practice schedules that can be used bycoaches.A Great book! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars great stuff for little ones....
My biggest complaint with this title is that it's not clear from the material is that it's targeted at 5-10 year-olds. My son is way beyond these cute drills and funny hats, so I'm feeling like i've wasted my money on this one.

The material that's there is solid and well presented tho, so if your kids are 10 and under, it's got some good ideas.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but no Pulitzer
I had heard a lot about this book from my tennis playing friends so I was quite looking forward to reading it. After half a dozen chapters, however, I emerged somewhat disappointed. Here's the rub. Not that the book is irrelevant...it covers a lot of things a tennis player should know and keep in mind when playing, and they all help. True to the intro, Moran doesn't spend a lot of time on how to make shots; it's mostly tennis-specific sport psychology. That's good stuff, but if you've spent any time at all reading Allen Fox's articles in Tennis Magazine, or watch the one-minute instruction videos on Tennis Channel, you've already seen most of them. So at the end, I got the feeling that I didn't quite learn anything new, but instead got a really good refresher on what I do wrong on the court almost all the time. And that's not all bad!

3-0 out of 5 stars Few gems, mostly routine stuff
I was disappointed in the number of really good different tennis tips. There were only a few gems in the whole book. Most of the tennis "tips" were routine.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Easy Read to Better Tennis
I love the game and have read many books on the subject. This one excels at giving tangible advice on everything "just folks" need to play and enjoy the game. Tips from strategy to etiquette are clearly explained, easy to remember, and make a difference. Greg is an advocate of playing percentage tennis (knowing when and where to hit your shot, and the smart uses of power and spin).Having followed his advice, I've seen my game advance and I'm comfortable on the court with all levels of players.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best tennis book I ever read

The tips and strategies in this book had an instant positive result on my last match.I would highly recommend it for any player looking for tangible strategies to take their game to the next level.

3-0 out of 5 stars Win matches and friends with this perceptive book
"Tennis Beyond Big Shots" provides plenty of topnotch instruction about strokes and strategy that will help you win matches. This 224-page paperback, spiced with pithy quotes, also gives readers superb suggestions about how to win friends and enjoy your tennis, regardless of the outcome.
Its "10 Commandments of Social Tennis" chapter should be posted at every tennis club and center.Especially important is author Greg Moran's commandent to accept your mistakes graciously."No matter how badly you may be playing or losing, keep a positive attitude and your excuses to yourself. No one's interested, and you'll only sound foolish," he advises.
My other favorite chapters are "Two Shots That Deserve Respect," "Conquering Our Inner Devil," "Three Secrets To Defeat Stinky Feet" (about footwork), and "Being The Best Tennis Parent Ever."
Recreational players, teaching pros and coaches, aspiring juniors, and tennis parents will benefit considerably from studying this well-written and well-analyzed book that covers both the basics and the fine points of tennis. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Cd
Jeff Greenwald makes some very useful comments and analysis for improving your mental game of competitive tennis. His tone is deliberate, uses good examples from real experience and has usable suggestions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Advice
There is really some good advice and suggestions in this CD for dealing with the tension and fears that can hinder athletic performance. Many of these can be applied to more than just tennis. One of the best keys for improving any athletic skill is reducing tension and this CD addresses several causes and introduces potential ways to address issues.I found the advice very relevant and useful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Help for Mental Midget Tennis Players - Like Me
I bought this book specifically because this year I have been nervous and unconfident during matches. Was this helpful?Absolutely!Does it completely cure the problem and will listening to this make your problems go away?Absolutely not!

This tape hit right on the problems I had. That there is an internal conflict between my physical self and my ego.My ego makes me play tight when playing lesser talented people. It restricts my mental thought process when I'm getting beat by better players making me mad at myself instead of focusing on how I should try to cure the problem.

Let me give you an example where it immediately helped.I'm an adequate server but can be prone to double fault issues. This tape asks you to visualize the stroke or a part of the stroke you are struggling with and how to correct it.Now, that sounds simple. But instead of doing this, I was mentally losing it thinking of nothing in particular until I fulfilled my destiny with a double fault. In case you haven't noticed, it's a village idiot writing this review but at least I recognize this.I was actually surprised how well these simple adjustments in attitude helped.I'm still working on all the negative discussions that I have with myself on court.

Who knows, with a little work, maybe I'll be considered a normal humanoid.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hey this really does help
Obviously if you are going to buy this CD you play tennis. Alot of tennis.
It does help with visualization and match play, relaxation etc. I was skeptical when I first listened to it, but it grows on you.
If you put some of his ideas into practice you really do relax on the court.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shows to how to bring your best game to the court!
I've done a lot of sports in my life, and have only rarely been given any guidance by coaches about how to address the issue of nerves, tension, relaxation, focus, and playing my best physical game while my mental side was going crazy with the tension of the moment. It's no easy task, but Jeff Greenwald's "Fearless Tennis" finally tackles a subject that affects all of us who play the game, any game for that matter. Relaxing and hitting our best stuff under the pressure of a match, at any level, has always been elusive at best. It's obvious when your hear this CD, that Jeff has "been there". His professional experience on the tour gives credence to his insights on how the pressure of a match can undermine so devastatingly our ability to hit the ball like we do when it doesn't count. I think Jeff has done us all a great service by combining his extensive match experience, knowledge of the game, and advanced psychological training to produce this CD.I feel like Jeff has lifted a real load of mental anguish off my shoulders every time I walk on a court. I'm playing more relaxed, hitting out more on the pressure points, and am making fewer errors. I have mixed emotions about letting everybody know about this great CD.
It's helped me immensely , I'm just not sure I want my opponents to know this stuff too!

Ryoma Echizen just joined the Seishun Academy's tennis team, which is known for being one of the most competitive teams in Japan. While most of the freshmen are on pins and needles hoping they won't get cut from the team, Ryoma Echizen is confident, cool, and collected.
