Excerpt: Nardcore is a hardcore punk movement that came out of Southern California in the early 1980s, originating in Silver Strand Beach, Oxnard and Port Hueneme. Most of the early Nardcore shows originated from Casa Tropical, Port Hueneme Skate Palace and other venues in the Oxnard area. Many early shows were at Casa de la Raza in Santa Barbara. Much of the early promotion of Nardcore came from Mystic Records, in Hollywood, Ca., and its founder Doug Moody. While questions have been raised about their financial dealings with the artists, this label not only launched many bands onto vinyl, but also promoted the Nardcore scene as a whole. The name is a reference to the Oxnard, California hardcore punk scene. This suburban community, sixty miles north of Los Angeles, California, was the spawning ground for many hardcore punk bands of the early '80s and became a hotbed for punk and skate bands; collectively, their sound became known as "Nardcore." The nardcore symbol (a common design feature in logos on record covers and tattoos) was scribbled in a notebook years ago by Ismael Hernandez of Dr. Know. A few of the original Nardcore bands, such as Dr. Know, were still performing in the 2000s. In summer 2002, a Henry Knowles Memorial Show featuring the "Nardcore All-Stars" took place. Rich Kids on LSD suffered the loss of their original drummer, Richard Anthony Manzullo (also known as "Bomer"), who died on December 12, 2005, and their front man, Jason Sears, who died in January 2006. After a short tour of Hawaii with the Oahu band 8mm Overdose, Ill Repute disbanded in July 2004 and briefly reforme...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=3086924 ... Read more

The museum reflects the history of the Army, especially of the United States Army Transportation Corps, and includes close to 100 military vehicles such as land vehicles, watercraft and rolling stock, including stock from the Fort Eustis Military Railroad. It is officially dedicated to General Frank S. Besson, Jr., who was the first 4 star general to lead the transportation command, and extends over 6 acres (24,000 m) of land, air and sea vehicles and indoor exhibits. Source: Wikipedia. Pages: 30. Not illustrated. Free updates online. Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: The Minnesota Streetcar Museum (MSM) is a transport museum that operates two heritage streetcar lines in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the western suburb of Excelsior. The museum was created as part of the restructuring of the Minnesota Transportation Museum in the winter of 20042005. The museum was founded in 1962 to restore a streetcar, Twin City Rapid Transit Company No. 1300, that had been operated by the TCRT until the last streetcar lines were abandoned in favor of buses in 1954. Over time, the museum diversified to include diesel and steam-powered trains, buses, steamboats, and associated buildings, papers, and photographs. When the museum was restructured in the winter of 2004 and 2005, the Minnesota Streetcar Museum assumed ownership of and responsibility for operation of the two streetcar lines. The Museum of Lake Minnetonka was created to operate a restored TCRT steamboat, the Minnehaha, which was built by TCRT in 1906, one of seven boats built in a design similar to the company's home-built streetcars. The Minnesota Streetcar Museum now has five operable streetcars, three from TCRT's fleet and two from the Duluth Street Railway Company. As of 2009, a streetcar from Winona, Minnesota is currently under restoration while a Fargo (North Dakota)-Moorhead Birney streetcar and a Mesaba Railway interurban car await restoration.
