5-0 out of 5 stars DK does it again!
Truck Trouble is a top-notch story for young children about the day's activities of a truck driver. Children will be captivated with the details of a driver's life, even sometimes sleeping in the little cab of his rig.

The book provides a picture dictionary review of all important terminology, and the story's end shows how John the driver's job impacts the lives of others.

4-0 out of 5 stars Truck Trouble no trouble for little ones!
I bought this book on a whim one year ago when my daughter was 3 years old. I wasn't sure if she would like a book about trucks. The first time I read it to her, she fell in love with it. She loves the pictures and storyabout the truck driver, his life in his truck (complete with bed), and histroubles on the road. I still have to read this book to her, now that sheis four years old and into princess fairies. I highly recommend this bookfor all kids, even if you think they may not be truck lovers. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Books for Boys
This book not only has beautiful pictures and text, but describes each type of truck. The character is lovable and easy for the child to relate.
Not just another truck book.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE I LOVE TRUCKS!
My 2 1/2 year old son is a huge truck fan. This book is great. I love the information on the front cover and first page, and back page and cover give. It's a bunch of facts that make the book that much more fun to read. The actual book is simple and easy to read. I can do "short form" by just reading the book, or I can do "long form" and go over all the trucks on the pages and covers. Whatever we do, we have a great time reading this together. What a great book!

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE TRUCKS
Perfect book in size for small hands, and vivid colors for inquisitive eyes. Any little tyke who enjoys trucks will love this book. My grandson is one of these tykes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this team of author/illustrator!
We discovered this book at the library & took it out so much, we ended up buying our own board book version. It's very loved.Last night my 3 year old son woke up at 4am calling for his "truck book!" And he slept with his arms around it. The illustrations are so simple and clear, and the rhyming is very catchy.I do have to admit that while we like the other books by this pair (Trains, School, etc), this is the best & the favorite in our house.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect first truck book
My two year old absolutely loves this book.It is a great introduction to trucks and the pictures help to identify trucks when we are on the road.I really like that the book "classifies" some trucks, i.e. "this one digs"; "this one dumps".That really helps the youngest readers to understand.I also like that the books includes the greatest truck of all: the ice cream truck. My little one has memorized this book and "reads" it all by himself. It is also the perfect length for parents when a little one is demanding "one more time".I am so glad that I received this book as a gift for my little boy. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Fold-Out Surprise Book for Babies
Each page in this book has a giant fold-out page for babies to open. The question on the top of the page is answered when you open the page.

"What noise does the cement mixer's drum make?"

Open page to see: Picture of a cement mixer and the word "whirrrr."

Each page is different, so some pages open up to the side and some to the top. So, each page gives baby a new challenge.

Lovely pictures of toys and lots of color and activity.

Bought this for my husband and he has spent many hours reading it has good write ups of the Trucks etc. This will get him more interested and wanting a Truck of this own some day.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great reference book for trucks.
There are not many reference books on light-duty trucks out there, and this is an excellent one for someone researching a certain vehicle. It fits what I was looking for.

There are hours of excellentbrowsing of the little guys as well as pages of excellent, and usable, information on the big names. Truckers and Troopers

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful info for desk jockies that think they want to go trucking!
When I was a kid I often romanticized driving a big rig. Then I went to college, got a desk job, and followed the normal course of life. The author of this book is a free spirit who has worked many different careers (including desk jobs) and has now found trucking to be a good career. He is forthright, humorous, and very good at describing the life of a trucker.I found myself laughing and enjoying the book as if I had rode along with him.He is also very honest and explains why trucking may not be for everyone. The one area I wish he would have expanded upon was the pay rates and the financial details of trucking. This would be very useful information for someone thinking about becoming a trucker. All in all it was a very good introduction to the career of trucking for someone interested in that profession.

3-0 out of 5 stars Everything You will ever need to know to start driving a big truck
This book was OK I taught the author talk too much about himself still it was informative

5-0 out of 5 stars must have for person's considering this work
I bought this book with the fact in mind that I may like to do this job upon retirement, I recommend it to all who consider this job.Steve takes you out on the road, through the schooling to some extent, and deals with the negatives and positives of this type of job in which almost all things that will occur in this type of carreer, some disturbing, some humorous and some just plain informative. It should be read first before flinging yourself into truck driving over the road.I really makes you think and practically puts you in the drivers seat confronting all situations that you are likely to come across from the driving part of the job to the getting paid and dealing with the company you drive for.

5-0 out of 5 stars THINKING ABOUT DRIVING A BIG TRUCK? READ THIS BOOK FIRST!
Clearly this is a tremendous book that covers a huge amount of ground, if you are interested in learning about your potential life as a big rig operator. This is a life that not everyone can deal with, but if you have ever even thought about it, you need to read this book. After you get through this, you will definitely know if you can cut it. There is nothing really hard about driving a big truck. I've been doing it for many years. The hardest part is being able to commit to a different lifestyle. As the author says, it is really about "getting your mind right" and "getting started." As he says, "jump."

This is a mentally stimulating and very positive look at what you will be getting into. There really isn't anything that you need to know, that isn't covered in here, including some really funny stuff about truck stop encounters and such. As someone mentioned previously about "meat and potatoes," I hate to tell you bud, there is no way you will ever learn to drive a truck, shift gears, hook up trailers, deal with bad weather and weigh stations, or most of all back up a rig by reading a book. It doesn't work that way. Someone has to physically teach you how to get through the basics, and then you have to get licensed, and then you have to go out and live it yourself on the highway. The hardest part of it all is the commitment to try something different. It is a very personal choice and it requires some thought.Read this book and you will be able to make the decision. It will make you think about what you are getting into before you actually do it.

This book is written in a narrative form, so you actually get to see everything you will be going through. As this guy states, he has been at this for seven years so far, so this is someone who has probably been through the gamut. Just look at the damn cover of the book and get a glimpse of what you might run into. Having the nerve and presence of mind to stop and take pictures of something like that coming at you is very real and very eye opening. Looks like fun to me. Hell yes!

You will also be able to avoid problems down the road, because you will know what is coming. They won't tell you about all these things in truck school, or at any company you might hook up to. This is a very clear perspective on exactly what you will be getting into, as well as a look at some very different trucking jobs, that most people don't even realize are out there for the taking.

I think there are several million people out there driving the big rigs today, and yet it is still one of the few remaining places that are wide open with tons of unfilled jobs. Some people are born to be truck drivers. They have nowhere else to go. Others do it because they enjoy the crap out of seeing the rest of the country and collecting paychecks for doing it. This book is obviously for the curious and the adventurous, and not just because you have no other choices. If you've been thinking about trying big trucks and if this is for you, you need to read this book.An excellent choice!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Our son loves this book!
Our two year old son loves cars and trucks to begin with, but he truly enjoys this book. Each page has different trucks with different textures. It's excellent for him to flip through on his own.I have found, when reading on his own, that he tends to bend or tear pages in other books that have flip-ups - so this book is one that I can leave out, he uses, and the damage to the pages are minimal, if any.So far, there's only one small tear, on one page.He likes to look at the pictures while I'm spooning him yogurt.I like having books around that he will actually use, and this is one of them.We have other books that may only have one picture of one truck on one page - and he gets stuck there and only wants to look at the truck. So, this book, having many trucks, gets him through it from cover-to-cover.He looks at all the pages. If you have a boy, this book is for them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great quality book
I agree with Suzanne's review of this book. I also purchased this for my son, and he really enjoys it. Really, really well made with very thick pages. Multiple textures and colorful illustrations. My only complaint would be that the text is a bit boring... "this big truck has a shiny red door"... "and this big truck has bumpy wheels".. (etc) Otherwise, I would give it 5 stars.
Really good value for the price though.
*** Other REALLY good touchy feely books are "Dinosaurs" and "Mermaids". (also by Usborne - Fiona Watt/Rachel Wells)

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful touch and feel book!
I can't say enough about the touchy feely book! It's hands down my daughter's favorite book right now.The pages are VERY thick, making it possible for the touchable parts of the page to be very thick also---they really feel like something---the load of sand feels sandy, the sheep feel fleecey, etc!The greatest part is that each page has MULTIPLE places to touch, and some are little and fun to find---like a dog with a furry coat next to the touchable truck, or a shiny headlight on a truck. The picture are clear and easy for a baby to enjoy, but there are also a few small details on each page for them to notice, like a little worm in the dirt.We have read this book over and over and over, and it's still in great shape---a good investment! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Great idea, details aren't accurate
Just a note that everything in this book is a "truck" - my 3 year old knows better. The pictures and idea of the book are great, but it was obviously either written by someone that does not have a feel for the details or it was dumbed down for the audience. There are better books out there for the 3 year old audience presenting the material accurately yet at the proper level.

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
Great book. Very realistic pictures. My son loves it and has read it everyday since he got it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
My son is only 20 months old and just LOVES this book! The details in the drawings are so realistic. And it's great that they have both men and women working at construction sites!Too bad it doesn't come in hardcover, as this is a nightly read before bed and that has taken its toll on the paper pages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Details for an Insatiable Toddler
I bought this book for my son shortly after his second birthday almost six months ago, and we STILL read it almost every night.Construction equipment is a source of endless fascination for him, and this book has satisfied some of his need for details about what certain pieces of equipment do.He seems to like this book in particular because the drawings are realistic -- he doesn't like the cartoony-drawings in some other books because they don't look like the real trucks he sees in the world. He also seems to like the more sophisticated language in the book, and amazes friends and relations with tales about tree spades, foundations, concrete mixers and pumps, and "jumping" cranes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for boys & girls
We've had this book since my twins were 2 years old. They both love it.The illustrations are colorful while being realistic; they're actually *better* than photos, because the artist can juxtapose several different trucks in one picture, which would be hard to do with a posed photo.

The book addresses suburban house construction, roads, and city demolition and building. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome color and variety!
My 18 month old and his 12 month old cousin both love this book.We are pleased at the number and variety of vehicles inside! The pictures are beautiful and clear and give us a lot to look at and talk about. We also bought My Big Animal Book and love it, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun introduction to things that go VROOOOM!!
From the time my son first learned to talk, he has shown a fierce curiosity about what things are called, especially the things he sees when we are driving around. I was so pleased with Priddy's My Big Animal Book (Priddy Bicknell Big Ideas for Little People) that I picked up My Big Truck Book to help him identify various vehicles as well as to build his growing vocabulary. The book was a tremendous success on both levels.

The book features large, sturdy pages that catalog a variety of farm, construction, rescue, and other vehicles. The photos are large and colorful, and never fail to capture my son's attention. Between this book and My Big Animal Book, my son's vocabulary and understanding of the world around him increased by leaps and bounds. I still remember the first time we drove by a construction site and I heard him shouting "Backhoe! Mini excavator! Dump truck!" The book also allowed us to use his curiosity about vehicles and fascination with the pictures to teach him about the vehicles' functions, colors, and sizes.

My son is two years old now and more interested in storybooks, plus he knows the vehicles in this book front to back. That doesn't keep him from taking this book off the shelf time after time just to enjoy seeing his favorite trucks, tractor, and construction equipment.

I highly recommend this durable, colorful, and inexpensive book to all parents of curious toddlers. As teaching aids go, My Big Truck Book has proven far more effective than many a high-priced electronic gadget or DVD.

Book Description

Trucks lift, dump, and carry things every day, everywhere. Did you know that...

.Some trucks can weigh as much as ten elephants put together.

.Flatbed trucks can carry other trucks, houses, and even a space shuttle!

.Semitrailer cabs can have a bed behind the front seat so that drivers can pull over and rest on long trips.

.Road–train trucks pull multiple trailers at the same time, just like a locomotive pulls freight cars on a train.

4-0 out of 5 stars Jason & Trucks
The story I read about was about trucks. I practically love trucks myself, their one of my favorite vehicles besides old hotrods...
This story had all kinds of trucks which do different jobs such as the logging truck, it carries logs to places. I liked the big monster truck...
Trucks come in different sizes and shapes. They can do all kinds of jobs including farm work, help carry building materials, deliver mail for the postal service, and fire fighters use trucks to put out fires.
This book was as good book but it left out a truck, a pickup truck. This truck book was a good book other than the pickup truck they left out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Simon's best, but good
I too am a children's librarian. I am a big fan of Seymour Simon's books - he always presents interesting information, clear prose, and beautiful pictures. His truck book, however, seems to suffer from the use of file photos as illustrations instead of any pictures taken just for the book. A few of his photos are not sufficiently illustrative of his text - like his photo of a tractor shows only half of a tractor in dim light. Still, there are plenty of young truck fans out there, and you could do lots worse than this concise book. ... Read more
