Beep! Beep! Beep! Meet Blue. A muddy country road is no match for this little pick up--that is, until he gets stuck while pushing a dump truck out of the muck. Luckily, Blue has made a pack of farm animal friends along his route. And they're willing to whatever it takes to get their pal back on the road.

Filled with truck sounds and animals noises, here is a rollicking homage to the power of friendship and the rewards of helping others.

5-0 out of 5 stars A jewel of a book
In the overcrowded children's book section, a lot of books are just there taking up space. You may even rope yourself into buying one of them. Then you get it home, look at its overly simplistic illustrations, its one-dimensional story, and notice that your child doesn't reach for it a second time or ask you to read it again when you're done.

Then there is Little Blue Truck, a simple, smart story with a wonderful lesson about making friends and helping those in need, no matter what mistakes they have made or what they've done to you.But this lesson is conveyed in far more precise, witty rhyme and accompanied with gorgeous and fun illustrations that PULL you into the story and the world it has created. My 2 1/2 y.o. son LOVES this book after having it on the shelf for over 2 months.Tonight he started reciting the parts that he knows well, and I had to come down and write a review to say thanks for a such a fun and sweet story and illustrations.Plus I love reading it, over and over and over... the only books I can say that about are classics like Goodnight Moon and Where the Wild Things Are.Little Blue Truck is a classic to us!

5-0 out of 5 stars my 2.5 yr old like it so much
i have to write a review.my boy like it so much that he memorized most of the book & pretend reading the story to us.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pictures and rhyming great. Moral message a bit off.
I love the art in this book, and the rhythmic text.My 18 month old daughter (who is obsessed with trucks) LOVES it, and we're buying it after renewing the library book.

There's one section of text I don't read to her though, and I don't really like to be honest. There's a "bad guy" truck that gets stuck in the mud, calls for help, and is coldly ignored by the animals."Help! cried the Dump, and he sounded scared. But nobody heard (or nobody cared)."

Sure, the little blue truck cares and then bumps along and helps him out. It makes the story seem okay from a mature perspective. But from a little person's perspective?I'd rather that she not worry why a busy, unfriendly truck (or kid) might be left stranded when they are scared and call for help.So we skip that part!I'm still trying to come up with alternative text there--if anyone has suggestions, please share.

5-0 out of 5 stars We really love this book
my 2 1/2 year old enjoyed it every time we got it from the library so I purchased for our home.We love it and the meaning behind the story.

5-0 out of 5 stars So cute!
We have borrowed this book from the library several times.Every time I take it back, my 2 year old asks me where the blue truck book is.He LOVES this book. The illustrations are so fun and he stays entertained and often wants me to read it over and over.He will be getting this book for Christmas this year! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Hours of entertainment
Baby boys seem to love trucks, and not only real trucks and toy trucks, but even books filled with trucks.

This is a stellar example of a great book for the infant truck lover. It's a sturdy board book with plenty of truck content. Tractor, bulldozer, front loader, fire truck, excavator - they're all here, and more, in vivid color.

There's a simple question on each spread, and the baby can slide up a little window to see a picture of the answer. Because of how the windows are made, they can't be ripped out, a real plus if your child is rough on books.

The book is written for readers one year old and up. Our two year old never gets tired of gazing at these trucks and opening and closing the little windows. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic book for kids . . . and their parents!
When my own children were little, Big Joe's Trailer Truck was one of their favorite books. It's educational about trucks, job responsibilities, and freight. But best of all, it's a good story about a nice trucker named Big Joe.I most recently bought a copy for my 3-year-old grandson, and he loves it, too.In fact, he almost has it memorized, so I have to be quite careful when I read it to him.I love this book, and kids do, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love the details
I think my favorite thing about this book are the detailed "anatomy of a truck" drawings--"dolly wheels", air brake lines, front axel, etc.I learned the vocabulary of trucks from this book, so now my 3 year old son and I can talk about trucks more intelligently as we drive down the road.My son loves the book and never turns it down.I like reading it, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Big Joe's Trailer Truck Through the Ages
A great book!My 19-month old son is another second generation "Big Joe".He asks me to read this to him almost every night..and I can remember reading this book with my dad 26 or so years ago.We read all the time, but Big Joe's Trailer Truck is the only one I remember after all these years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Second Generation Reader
I, too, fondly recall having this book read to me by my father as a child. Now I'm a father, and I'm reading it to my 2 year old sons (the same copy!).The story line is simple but not patronizing, the illustrations are busy and colorful, and the kids love learning about trucks as the story unfolds. How else could a 2 year old not only know what an "air filter" is, but know that it sticks out the top of the hood to collect air?

5-0 out of 5 stars We love Big Joe!
I loved this book as a kid 25 years ago, and now I love reading it to my 20-month old son. My son loves Joe, too, and wants to read it over and over. Joe seems like such a friendly, hard-working fellow, and he's a wonderful example for kids. The illustrations are about the best I've ever seen in a children's book, so good, in fact, I sometimes pick it up even after my son goes to bed! ... Read more

Product Description

Appealing to both historians and enthusiasts GMC Light Duty Trucks is a chronological overview of the popular General Motors vehicles that have been long considered Pontiac’s trucks. It begins by tracing their roots to the year 1902 and origins as the long-departed Rapid and Reliance brands. The story continues with the pair joining an emergent General Motors and 1912 consolidation as GMC.A discussion of significant early milestones follows: Model 15 of 1914 the first “true” GMC; the role of GMC’s military vehicles during the First World War; and, the impact of General Motors’ acquiring Yellow Cab Manufacturing Company, which it merged with General Motors Truck Company and led to the wide range of GMC light duties when Yellowcab trucks, the Pontiac Delivery and Chevrolet Commercial Bodies were integrated into the evolving GMC line.Next the important middle years are reviewed, highlighting effects of GM’s corporate styling leadership on GMC; the offering expansion of the immediate pre-World War II era that brought several distinctive types to the line-up; the all-new 1939 model light truck engine, cab and bodies; contributions to the Second World War allied military effort; and, the birth of GMC Truck & Coach Division. The major postwar styling and functional redesigns of 1947 and 1955 are covered in detail along with the arrival of civilian 4x4 pickups and, in particular, the ambitious Breakthrough Engineering efforts for 1960, culminating in the V-6 engine program that marked the high tide of GMC uniqueness. The book concludes by summarizing the past three decades when a broadening diversity of added models—sport utilities, diesels, full-size and mini vans, multi-purpose vehicles, and compact and mid-size pickups contributed to a massive growth in customer acceptance.

4-0 out of 5 stars Informative, but dry
This was a very complete history of GMC light truck development over the past 100 years or so. Despite some minor typos here and there, and a couple of grammar issues, everything is very complete. It's unfortunate that there aren't more pictures to illustrate some of the descriptions, but what pictures are there are excellent.

The entire book is pretty much a long description of the production changes in the truck, on a year-by-year basis. As such, it's a bit of a dry read. But it's not pretending to be anything but a reference, so it's not really fair to call it "unexciting". I did learn a lot about GMC's history by reading the book from cover to cover.

There was one blatant error in Chapter 9, on page 102. The GM 6.5 litre diesel engine was NEVER direct-injected. It was always (and still is) an indirect-injected engine, even in non-turbocharged applications. GM did not use direct-injection diesels until the 6.6 litre Duramax was released.

But I've yet to come across a good vehicle reference that didn't have at least one mistake in it, so I won't hold it against the author. That's why I still give the book 4 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wagner's Jimmy Pick-ups
The second definitive publication on GMC trucks, Wagner employs the same detail and historical profiles of the smaller trucks as he did earlier with the big ones.As a GMC multiple decade owner, from true Jimmys to badge-engineered Chevies, this book filled a long-standing void with historical and technical detail, year by year and model by model. Like Packard, GMC trucks were not marketed on a model year basis, and few GM historical records exist to help restorers with definitive data. Wagner identifies GMC's long-standing partnership with Pontiac for engines as well as Olds and Buick, and as such, the book is a treasure trove for GMC driveline specifications, bodies and trim.He also extols the GMC V-6, perhaps the finest engine GM ever produced, the last of the low to no maintenance beasts. Two areas not well-covered are:the "art-deco" period from '41-'46, and interiors/dash designs from any era. There is one photo of a 1/2 ton from the "Art-Deco" era, but data is short. This is forgivable given the low volume of light trucks produced, especially compared to sister Chevrolet.Missing entirely are interior cab and dash photos, the zenith of which were probably 1955-1959, to promote the difference and extra cost of interior appointments of Jimmies over Chevies beyond the drivelines. If you have a light Jimmy, want one, or need to know why they were a premium truck, this is your reference book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Six enthusiastic thumbs up
My husband, my son and I all love this book. It's fun to read, leaves lots of opportunity to play act, is downright funny (so key when you're the parent and have to read a book hundreds of times) and the pictures are great. We originally borrowed this from the library and loved it so much, we bought our own copy.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fun book!
Farmer Dale is a friendly dog on his way to town with a load of hay. The trip is not uneventful--he encounters a skating pig, an accordion-playing goat and other farm animals in need of a ride.

They soon learn a pickup will only carry so much weight and that one farmer can only do so much--working alone.

This is a fun story of working together and getting the job done to everyone's benefit. Told in simple rhyme with pictures to bring it all to life, it is aimed at 3 to 7-year olds, but the boys in my house enjoyed it even though they are a couple years older.

Armchair Interviews says: Add it to your gift list. Great fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good!
I had a feeling I might like this book even before the story began. The title page shows a big dog asleep in a fireplace-heated easy chair, books spread about the room, and his spectacles (it's old-fashioned that way) perched on his nose. It turns out that the dog is the titular "Farmer Dale," and he deserves the rest after the day he had! Driving his shiny truck, he picks up one idiosyncratic animal after another, from the bossy cow (who repeatedly says "Mooove over!") to the accordian-playing (!) goat, to the rooster who annoyingly tells him the obvious after his rolling barnyard steams and shakes to a stop:

"It seems you have a problem,"
a cocky rooster crowed.
"We do," admitted Farmer Date,
"The problem is we're stuck.
The weight of all these animals
is too much for my truck."
Rooster eyed the animals.
"You're such a cozy group.
I hate to cluck like Mother Hen,
but who will fly the coop?"

WIth all apologies to non-clucking hens, Rooster has pretty much properly assessed the problem--except it gets worse. The crowded animals (in a delightful close-up) are, quite frankly, a bunch of cranky, whiny animals, and good-natured Farmer Dale tries to get them to "settle down."In a fairly wacky and pun-filled cow-llaboration (sorry), the animals get them wheels a-rolling again, and the surprise conclusion explains why a goat was holding an accordian!

The illustrations have the same kind of abandon as the story, and yet the wild animation-like scenes share the spotlight with startlingly beautiful depictions of the rural countryside. Ivan Bates' watercolor and pencil crayon pictures have an old-fashioned classic look, with hints of Beatrix Potter, sketchy movie storyboards, and a little N.C.Wyeth and Norman Rockwell. It's an uncommonly imaginative mix of pictorial styles, and it compliments the menagerie that Farmer Dale collects in his truck. The rhymes are funny and unforced, and the story moves both logically and wildly along. 5-0 out of 5 stars my son loved it!
My son is almost eight and I wondered if this was too young for him, but it was not.The minute I handed him this book he grabbed papers and started drawing and spent hours with it that first day or two.I see it on the table again today weeks later. He now wants to order the other books in the series to learn to draw other items.Really cool learn to draw book!

5-0 out of 5 stars What every young artist needs
Ed Emberley's books are great for all ages. I bought the Trucks and Trains book for my 4 year old grandson. It was an instant hit. The shapes are simple, instructions are easy to follow. It's a definite confidence builder for budding artists.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome book
Ed Emberly's books are so great. If your child can follow visual directions and draw a line, circle and color in, then he or she can draw these things. My son is five and can draw these. He is quite smart and loves trains and trucks, so those are probably factors. When he isn't drawing from the book, he loves to look at it. Great for boys. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Chilton for 1989 Toyota
Not the best but good for the money.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't wast your money, buy the Toyota factory repair manual.
I just finished a major suspension rebuild on my Toyota truck.I used the Chiltons for reference, which was a huge mistake. Most of the procedures were poorly written, confusing, and/or wrong. Many critical torque specifications were incorrect to the point of being dangerous or destructive.Save yourself a lot of frustration and wasted time by purchasing the Toyota factory repair manual for your specific vehicle. ...
