Product Description

There are many different kinds of trucks to drive. You can dig up dirt with a power shovel, lift steel beams with a giant crane, flatten tar with a steamroller, and push away snow with a snowplow. Preschoolers will love watching the little boy and girl in the story as they sit in the driver’s seat of twelve great machines that rumble and tumble and go clinka-vroom vroom!

5-0 out of 5 stars fun for boys and girls
This world is filled with trucks, each with a specific job to do. This picture book highlights are few of these such as cranes, stream rollers, snowplows and power shovels. The pages show a boy and girl taking turns using the equipment while the text tells about the machine featured and how it works.

The pages are made a thick card stock. They should last through numerous reads.Be on the look out for a funny dog or cat hidden in each illustration!

4-0 out of 5 stars Charming, but has an error
The book is charming, was well received by the children. The pictures are colorful and include both genders as drivers in the big machinery mentioned. There is much good information in the book. On the combine page, however, there is an error--farmers know that combines do not operate in the rain. The grain cannot be harvested when wet. ". . . in sunshine and rain" is cute verse but innacurate in this case.

That being said,I would recommend the book for others . . . . ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Short but sweet
Good book for my 3 yr old son, lots of pictures of garbage cans, garbage trucks, and recycling. The descriptions are plentiful, so he never tires of me reading it to him.

5-0 out of 5 stars For your garbage truck lover
We own about 5 books on garbage trucks, all purchased from Amazon, and this is my son's favorite. He is 2 years old and absolutely in love with garbage trucks. This one has a bit more information than some of the others, so for younger children I'd start with a more basic book until they learn the basic garbage terms and concepts. But, for older children or younger children with a garbage truck passion, it's great to have more content.

4-0 out of 5 stars good basic book
My 5 year old is really into garbage trucks. This is a good basic book, but it didn't really provide him with any new information. He read through it a couple of times and hasn't looked at it again since Christmas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every day Jobs that interest kids!
Every kid I know loves to watch a garbage truck going by.Young children are thrilled to learn about the stuff of everyday life, like what happens to garbage. And what does it take to keep our towns and cities clean?

This book has pictures of sanitation workers and garbage trucks in action with simple vocabulary and easy to follow concepts.Bold words are found in a small glossary. There is a short index to teach young children how to look up specific details. The end of the book also contains a diagram of a common garbage truck and some interesting facts about garbage trucks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Garbage Grandma

A very useful book in identifing pickups of all sorts. And also a great book to just browse through.

4-0 out of 5 stars Standard Catalogue of American Light-Trucks
Bought this for my husband and he has spent many hours reading it has good write ups of the Trucks etc. This will get him more interested and wanting a Truck of this own some day.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great reference book for trucks.
There are not many reference books on light-duty trucks out there, and this is an excellent one for someone researching a certain vehicle. It fits what I was looking for.

4-0 out of 5 stars Most definitive Truck reference currently available.
While I found a few minor errors in some of the model information, I have to give this book a good review. All the makers are there including manufacturers that I had never heard of. There are hours of excellentbrowsing of the little guys as well as pages of excellent, and usable, information on the big names. My only major complaint with the book is thatI am not happy with the paperback format. I would like a book that holds upa little better. Otherwise...Excellent reference work. And fun too! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Stickers do not stick
I noted that another reviewer said the stickers stick well; but are then hard to reuse. We had a different problem:Our stickers in this book did not stick at the time of first use. This made it virtually impossible to enjoy the activity.I was constantly pushing down the stickers as they would curl up on all sides. My son would go for the next sticker; and the last one he placed would be curled. The art/style of the picture scenes and stickers are terrific; but the stickers are crummy. There are so many truck/digger sticker books on the market; pass on this one.Even though it's inexpensive, it's simply not worth it.

3-0 out of 5 stars What little boys love
I got this for my grandson when he was about 4. TRUCKS TRUCKS TRUCKS - what more could a little guy as for?Fun to interact and place the stickers.

5-0 out of 5 stars my 3yo loves this book
We brought this camping as a quiet time activity and after putting all the stickers in place my son "read" the book all whole week.He doesn't like to move stickers once they are down, though, so he was a little frustrated that they didn't stick better. The stickiness was what I expected since I bought the book knowing they were reusable.

4-0 out of 5 stars better than most of the similar books on the market
we like this sticker book, as one of the review noted, the stickers are not really reusable, meaning you can reuse it, but it won't stick that well,,,it's also great to paint in this book, as there is a lot of empty space for that on the pages. i would purchase these as presents for 3 year olds.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good selection of vehicles
I bought this for my 3-yr old cuz he just loves his vehicles. This one has a lot of vehicles to choose from, which is a plus. The book is well illustrated with colorful pages and short stories (a few sentences). You will need to be careful when peeling the stickers since depending on the shape of the vehicle, you can tear them, especially the long tankers and big hulls. This is not a good thing.

First time using the sticker in the book is fine. But after a few tries, the ends will start to curl. It's even worse when my child decided to stick the stickers on other surfaces, which then desensitized the sticky side.

But overall, it's money well spent. He's had it for several months now and he still enjoys playing and looking at it. Maybe one day soon, he'll learn to place the vehicles on the road instead of on the buildings and actually follow the story line. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A really great read
I had found this gem of a book at Half Price Books.
From what I had read far this book thouches on the mind and may be the soul of working on an old vehicle.
Along with the wit and wisdom of a philosophy of the DIY mind set in a person. Also the thought of how the mind is during the change of the seasons. Even if you are not in rual New Hampshare but in urban Chicago you will still get this book and the vibe of the autor's mind set. This book is not about nuts and bolts but the high meaning of working on a vehicle.

4-0 out of 5 stars Zen and Truck Repair
The book was a good, quick read.It was shorter than I expected but full of deep thoughts.I enjoyed envisioning the author getting dirty and frustrated whileinvolved in the rather futile exercise of "rebuilding" his truck. To call it "rebuilding" is a bit of a stretch because he starts off wrong and ultimately does a great deal of expensive damage to otherwise good components while tearing the truck down. While the book was good, DO NOT approach car or truck repair as the author does or you will waste a lot of money. At the end of the book, the author admits the whole exercise resulted in a truck that is not even dependable.Again, read it for fun but not for mechanical advice.

5-0 out of 5 stars good read
I read this book first in 1979 and it still has a great message. I bought this one used in great shape and on the inside cover it had the title of a city college philosophy class in it. This book has a lot of little life lessons in it and I guess I'm not the only one who thinks so.

2-0 out of 5 stars The truck runs
But the book sputters.
I really do not see what all the rave reviews are about.

If you enjoy reading about crankshafts, kingpins, cams and pistons, then this book is for you. I know some very good mechanics and am not demeaning the profession by any means.
In fact, my '52 navy-blue GMC pickup has been running like a top for years thanks to them.
I was anticipating something comparable to Michael Perry's "Truck", which was more engaging of everyday
characterizations...with seasoning.

Maybe a literary oil change and a shot of WD-40 might have given this read a smooth ride.
Half way through the book I had to jump out the passenger side.

5-0 out of 5 stars Truck: An Experience in Backward Thinking
This book is a classic, in the category with Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. I will re-read it many times....fine condition in permabound paperback. ... Read more

Product Description

If a custom vehicle is something to see, a custom semi is something else--something much, much more. This brilliantly illustrated book celebrates the time, energy, patience, hard work, and skill that go into these monumental rolling works of art.

The author, who has spent a quarter of a century photographing and writing about semi trucks, takes readers behind the scenes in a semi customizing shop. There she surveys eye-popping examples of themes for custom construction and gives readers a rare close-up look at how the custom semi goes from inspiration to road-ready masterpiece. As interesting for its technical insights as it is for its fantastic photographs, her book is a fitting tribute to this pinnacle of automotive art.

Trucks that plow, trucks that roll, trucks that haul, trucksthat lift--Matt just can't get enough of his favorite toys. When askedto clean his room, he puts away his trucks, socks, and teddy bears, butnot in the way his mom probably intended. With each succeeding page, histoy trucks grow, until Matt is driving the mammoth vehicles over the rubbleof his bedroom, scooping up laundry and hockey sticks. As the trucksincrease in size, so do the words in the marginsdescribing what the trucks are doing (pushing, rolling, scooping, loading). Finally, Matt's room is clean, his trucks in a basket, and he's ready to gooutside where a whole other world of bulldozers, backhoes, and tractorsawaits!

Truck-love is as inevitable a developmental stage as crawling andtoilet training. This book is sure to be an all-time favorite, with itsbright yellow gouache paintings of trucks, trucks, and more trucks. PeterSís has a knack for this kind of focused look atchildhood passions. 5-0 out of 5 stars One of his favorites
My son loves this book - this book and the other Peter Sis book about Firetrucks.Great illustrations that keeps my son engaged and the topic is fabulous as he is infatuated with all things trucks or trains. :)

I wish it also came in a board book version as he's sometimes hard on the pages. My son is 2 years old and while he does turn the pages fine - and so far, no rips - I just wish there was a sturdier version. :D

5-0 out of 5 stars Mesmerizing Book for my 2-Year-Old Truck Lover
This simple story immerses my 2-year-old in it's clean pictures like no other book. He holds the book close and studies the differnt trucks (especially on the last page) like a little scientist.

It's easy to understand, and the pictures tell a great story.

Clearly Peter Sis knows how to make a great book for the toddler set.

5-0 out of 5 stars We love it
I have 3 boys -all have *adored* this book from about one year old to two years old.

5-0 out of 5 stars This one gets read everyday!
It's amazingly simple. The colors are limited to three (black, white and gold) and on most pages there is only one truck. Each page features a different truck and the trucks get larger and larger as you progress through the book. The title truly says it all and it works! Our 17 month old son usually reads this book no less than four times a day and this is one book that I don't mind reading to him at least four times a day.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for kids obsesed with garbage trucks
So many little kids, especially boys, that I know are completely obsessed with garbage trucks. This book would be a big hit to be read over and over.I can't comment on the truck, as my copy is a hand-me-down that didn't come with it (so I only put 4 stars in respect for what another reviewer wrote about that). Also, nice little message about recycling, and some tips for parents on recycling with kids.Good "sounds" in the book like "scrunch, munch, crunch and clank" which my kids always really like. Also, easy enough to be an easy reader for kids with those emerging skills.

Product Description
Comparatively low-cost freight transportation has been an important element in the growth of the U.S. economy. Goods can be transported between most points in the country quite cheaply and efficiently. To varying degrees, however, the freight transportation services we consume generate costs that are borne by others. Such costs are commonly referred to as external costs. From a societal perspective, it is desirable for all transportation services to pay their full social (private and external) costs. If the full social cost were reflected in the prices shippers pay, transportation users could choose the amount of each form of service to consume on the basis of the true cost of this service to society. By "internalizing" external costs, policy makers would effectively create a market through which transportation users could weigh the benefits of consuming a particular transportation service against the true costs. The purpose of this monograph is to estimate these true costs for freight truck and rail.We estimate four general types of external costs for a ton-mile of freight shipped by truck or rail: accidents (fatalities, injuries, and property damage); emissions (air pollution and greenhouse gases); noise; and unrecovered costs associated with the provision, operation, and maintenance of public facilities (primarily roads and bridges). Because the preponderance of freight transportation occurs between cities, we focus on intercity freight flows and ignore the movement of goods within urban areas. Consequently congestion, a primarily urban phenomenon, is not addressed. An intercity focus also simplifies the estimation of air pollution costs. Whereas pollution levels in rural areas are fairly consistent, an additional unit of pollution can bring about costs that very greatly among metropolitan areas based on existing air quality. Our analysis thereby serves as a which more specific external cost estimates can be compared. ... Read more
